I'm trying to share an internet connection from one laptop to another laptop but not allowed to do this wirelessly. I only have 1 ethernet port in my room. So I was wondering is it possible to plug laptop #1 into the ethernet port then bridge this connection via a usb to lan adapter.

It is displaying lights for DSL, PWR, INET, WLAN.I can connect but it always reads the message "No Internet Access"I went to the service provider to get this fixed. And they created bridge mode through LAN so I could connect using a username and password. (create a new connection > broadband ). But I innocently pressed reset button. I don't want to go back to the service provider to setup the bridge mode or ability to connect by a username/password through LAN.

I already know how to bridge the lan and wifi connection so I can plug in an ethernet cable from the laptop to my desktop and get internet that way, but is there a way to actually turn the laptop into a router when it's connected to the router, wirelessly? I tried using ad hoc but it looks like that only works if I'm directly connected to the router.

I have been getting internet on my desktop through a bridge connection via my laptop, which is connected to our modem wirelessly. We have been using Qwest as our internet provider. We just recently upgraded to a 12mb connection. In doing so, we had to set up a new modem. The setup went smooth, and every other computer can connect to it just fine, including my laptop. But here is where the problem lies.So my laptop is connected to the modem (we don't have a router), and my desktop is still connected to my laptop via bridge connection. On my laptop's side, the Wireless Network Connection, Local Area Connection 2 (my desktop), and Network Bridge are all working just fine. However, on my desktop's side, "Local Area Connection" is marked as "Unidentified Network".
I found this site through searching something on google and found someone that seemed to have the exact same problem. I read through it all and tried all the suggestions he was given. For him, his problem was fixed. For me, the same problem still exists. Here is the link to the thread - I have tried uninstalling the ethernet drivers and restarting my computer and i have tried those commands in CMD for the resets and restarted my computer, but they did not work. I have also done a few other things i believe but can't recall exactly what they were.
I am having trouble with connecting my Xbox 360 to the internet through my laptop using a bridge connection. Everything works absolutely fine, after reading all of the posts in URL,I followed practically the same steps, using my network information instead. The xbox finds the network but the DNS servers cannot resolve the names of the Xbox live servers or Xbox.com.I was wondering if there was a step somewhere I had missed or needs to be changed. I've already gone through the motions of checking the router and everything.

I'd like to connect the smart TV using network cable to the free port, and set up a bridge so that it connects to the home network.
I tried using ICS. It workes only somewhat - I was able to get an IP address on the 192.168.137.x subnet, but the TV failed to connect to the gateway.
I am trying to use bridging to do the same. I configured the free port and the TV manually, to a 10.10.1.x network, and then I bridged the wireless and wired ports on the pc, (I modified the metric of the wireless to be lower than the wired port). This does not work either.
I am having trouble creating a network bridge between my PC and Blu Ray player via LAN connection. I have done it before, but always run in to problems. I took my computer on vacation and messed up the existing connection and settings. Last time I successfully created the connection, I stumbled upon the answer, but can't remember how I fixed it. I should say that I can create the bridge, but once I do, the wireless internet connection no longer works, and my blu ray player can't connect to the internet either. I have forced compatibility mode on the wireless network via DOS, but no luck. I did the same on the LAN connection just for the heck of it. Still no luck.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt took a while but I've had my 1522 running well for several days. However, if I power down and then power up the 1522, it never reconnects. The bridge mode light flashes 5 times, then - nothing.
So, I have to disconnect everything, bring the 1522 back to my main PC, attach it, let it connect properly, then unattach and re-attach at it's use site.
(I'm using a static IP address and a Cisco E3000 router working perfectly with all my other stuff. Firmware v1.31)
I currently have a DAP1522 in Bridge mode with a DIR655. I am only using the 2.4GHz G mode on my 655. In a few days I will be replacing the 655 with an 825. When I log into the 1522 I don't see any settings for Mode, Frequency or Width (while in Bridge mode). The page for wireless setup is blank except for the "Save Settings" button. When I look at the 655, it appears that the 1522 is connected (bridged) at 2.4 GHz G like I would expect. So, when I install the 825 how do I make it connect at 5GHz N or will that be automatic if my SSID on the N mode of the 825 matches SSID on the 1522?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been using WAP4401N for almost a year in our office and I’m very happy of this device, never had any problem. So I bought 3 new ones for our customer which supposed to work in configuration below:
Network ----- AP1 –Bridge mode ----- AP2 – Bridge mode -----AP3 – Access Point mode.
Everything was working perfectly fine to the moment than bridge was broken. I can get access to all AP (obviously when connected to proper part of network) however not able to ping from AP2 -> AP1 or opposite so basically no link between AP1 and AP2. After reboot everything is working fine to next time (happens twice in two days). When I go to System Performance can see Connection is enabled but doesn’t work.
I upgraded firmware to latest version (2.0.5.3) but haven’t worked. When I’ve done some research found many users having similar problem with this device and basically they recommend to don’t buy. Unfortunately this is not an option for me as I’ve already purchased them.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new DAP-1522 A1 connected to an 802.11n wireless LAN in bridge mode. Running in the 2.4GHz band with WPK-2 and AES security/encryption.Everything runs fine 99% of the time, but once a day or so the wireless LAN connection on the DAP-1522 drops and then takes about two minutes to re-connect. It re-connects and then everything is fine for a day or so until the next dropped wireless connection episode on the DAP-1522. I know my 802.11n wireless network is 100% fine as during the dropped connection to the DAP-1522 I can connect directly to the 802.11n wireless network (running from my gateway/router) using my other computer, no issues.I've seen some posts on this forum that the A1 version of the DAP-1522 hardware is not 100% compatible with the 802.11n network standard and there will be intermittent wireless drops. If this is true, it's just insane. All I can say is I can't believe DLink would allow a product to be sold that won't work properly on 802.11n networks.I check the logs each time I see the dropped wireless connection and all that shows is the following.1) Negotiating connection 2) 4-way handshake success [mac address]There's no message in the logs about why the wireless connection dropped, but I assume it has something to do with re-newing a key for the wireless network as the successful key renewal messages are the only other messages in the log. When the wireless network dropped I don't see the successful key renewal message at the time I should see it.I thought this DAP-1522 would take 15 minutes to configure in bridge mode and then I'd forget about it. Spend too much time on this already, so a bit disappointed with this DAP-1522 and DLink tech support....though when it's connected to the 802.11n wireless LAN it works fine.

Earlier today I attempted to change the setting on my Westell 6100 modem such that it would simply bridge the connection to my Linksys WRT54GS router, basically involving setting the router to bridge only and turning DHCP off. Now I no longer get an internet connection through my router when previously the connection had worked perfectly fine before. I following the steps of cloning the MAC address to the router and have done the proper resetting steps (computer, them router, then modem) but I simply can't get an internet connection through my router. The process to set up simple bridging from the modem what supposed to end up with the internet light no longer turning on but the light turned back on following one of the resets.
Currently, I can connect to the internet through the modem just fine but I get nothing when I include the router. I'm not sure if there are some other settings I'm supposed to be changing as I can't seem to find anything past what I've already done when researching online. At this point I would just be happy reverting the settings I've changed but I don't know how to access the modem now that DHCP is off.Basically, I'd prefer to be able to get the router working with these new settings but if that proves too difficult (as I've heard it can be when trying to get Westell modems to work with Linksys routers) I'd like to learn how to access the modem and change the settings back to what they were (preferably in as simple terms as possible as I don't particularly understand what a lot of these settings/configurations do).(And a bit of an aside, but I had attempted to do this modem bridging to "fix" perceived internet speed problems. I've been averaging around 300Kbps download rates ever since I've had this internet connection from Verizon when the supposed download rates should be between 1MB and 1.3MB. Doing this modem bridging had been reported to fix some modem/router conflicts and improved connection speeds for some.)
I use a WUMC710 bridge with desktop PC and a Printer connected to it. When those two devices have been inactive for a while the bridge goes into sleep mode and loses the connection Back to my EA6500. Trying to print something from wireless devices connected to the 6500 elsewhere in the network doesn't "wake up" the bridge. Ihave to unplug the power supply and restart it.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI'm having a very difficult time getting my WRT54GS to work with my Westell 6100 modem. I've been bouncing around gathering info, and what I've learned is that the goofy way CenturyLink tech support told me to hook up my old wired router (modem line into outgoing (LAN) router port) is because the Westell 6100 is a "smart modem/router". Therefore, when I run the Linksys setup CD, it sees the modem as a router, and won't properly configure. I've also learned that the Westell modem can be "dumbed down" into simply a modem by putting it into "bridge mode", which is where I'm at right now - trying to get it reset to factory defaults and resetting the connection type from PPPoE to Bridge. In the meantime, I also reset the WRT54GS to factory defaults, and now I've got another problem: the router will not allow me to set up encryption. The default setting is "Disabled", and when I click the down arrow and try to make any selection at all (preferred selection is WPA2 Personal), it reverts to Disabled. I've also tried to change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1 (and alternately to 192.168.1.253), so it won't conflict with the modem's IP, and it freezes up every time I try.

Adapter is working right in control panel and i can connect to the internet via cat 5 connection but does not see the network with this adapter. Have troubleshoot with netgear and at&t tech's for hours no luck, changed out adapter to a belkin same problem got another gateway and still win7 will not work, something is blocking my connection and gateway checks out and adapter is installed and correcother info to pass on this is very tough and just got the dsl and have not been about to enjoy this desktop with wireless yet hp system bout 7yrs old and working good so any of you have some suggestions that would be beond the norma

In the room with the dsl modem there is the Linksys E3000 wirless router. My desktop will randomly lose connection with the router yet other devices that use wifi in the house work fine (ex: ipod touch, android phone, and xbox 360.) i have went through and reset all devices and gave the desk top priority in the network but it hasnt worked. Whenever im searching the web, say i go to NFL.Com to check my fantasy squad, the pages wont load, and i see my connection has been dropped, now every time i click on the signal bars on the bottom right hand corner, it says no connection, but after about 2 seconds of clicking on it, it connects again. So in order for me to get my connection back, i have to click on my signal bar to get it back, which is ridiculous. I have other computers in my home, all of which do not have this problem, so its definitely something in my desktop, i also have about 3 wireless adapters i've tested it on, all of which do the exact same thing on my desktop only. I've also went to power management under configuration for my USB adapter and turned off the ''Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'', it still drops my connection every 3-5 minutes.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently had to switch to a wireless network, buying a brand new Netgear DGN220v3 (which works great, by the way) and an Asus PCE-n15 network adapter for my desktop pc. Now, the signal could be slightly better, but it's pretty fine and quite fast when available. The problem is sometimes the adapter just seems to "forget" all the active connections and doesn't see any connection at all for a couple of minutes. It's updated with realtek drivers, I've tried using the Asus utility as well (which installs realtek drivers anyway + a -not so useful- program)
