D-Link DAP-1522 :: A1 In Bridge Mode Intermittent Wireless Connection Drops?
Apr 21, 2013
I have a brand new DAP-1522 A1 connected to an 802.11n wireless LAN in bridge mode. Running in the 2.4GHz band with WPK-2 and AES security/encryption.Everything runs fine 99% of the time, but once a day or so the wireless LAN connection on the DAP-1522 drops and then takes about two minutes to re-connect. It re-connects and then everything is fine for a day or so until the next dropped wireless connection episode on the DAP-1522. I know my 802.11n wireless network is 100% fine as during the dropped connection to the DAP-1522 I can connect directly to the 802.11n wireless network (running from my gateway/router) using my other computer, no issues.I've seen some posts on this forum that the A1 version of the DAP-1522 hardware is not 100% compatible with the 802.11n network standard and there will be intermittent wireless drops. If this is true, it's just insane. All I can say is I can't believe DLink would allow a product to be sold that won't work properly on 802.11n networks.I check the logs each time I see the dropped wireless connection and all that shows is the following.1) Negotiating connection 2) 4-way handshake success [mac address]There's no message in the logs about why the wireless connection dropped, but I assume it has something to do with re-newing a key for the wireless network as the successful key renewal messages are the only other messages in the log. When the wireless network dropped I don't see the successful key renewal message at the time I should see it.I thought this DAP-1522 would take 15 minutes to configure in bridge mode and then I'd forget about it. Spend too much time on this already, so a bit disappointed with this DAP-1522 and DLink tech support....though when it's connected to the 802.11n wireless LAN it works fine.

I currently have a DAP1522 in Bridge mode with a DIR655. I am only using the 2.4GHz G mode on my 655. In a few days I will be replacing the 655 with an 825. When I log into the 1522 I don't see any settings for Mode, Frequency or Width (while in Bridge mode). The page for wireless setup is blank except for the "Save Settings" button. When I look at the 655, it appears that the 1522 is connected (bridged) at 2.4 GHz G like I would expect. So, when I install the 825 how do I make it connect at 5GHz N or will that be automatic if my SSID on the N mode of the 825 matches SSID on the 1522?

I'm running the 1522 as a bridge with v1.21 firmware. I have 2 devices wired to it. I have Wireless MAC cloning disabled (not checked). If I scan my network using a tool such as ipscanner (http:url.....) the devices attached to the bridge are being listed with the 1522's MAC address - not their own.
The connected devices should be showing up with their own MAC addresses. The 1522's address should only be displayed IF MAC cloning is enabled and IF the cloning mode is set to Auto - is my understanding of this feature incorrect or is my 1522 not performing as spec'd?

If I turn off the wireless on my DAP-1522 in bridge mode, will it basically become a Gig Switch?? I've changed my network around abit and don't need it in bridge mode at this point but would love to use it as a plain switch. Would this do the trick??

I m setup for my brother's next house. He wants to use to share with my internet access. I do have 2wire modem provider that has wireless capability in my house. So he have DAP-1522 [bridge mode] and adjust in Wireless Setting, to use SSID manual, (Bell9**) WPA. It s successful, and works well. Problem is cannot use wired to computers, blu-ray, Xbox 360 in same time. it will disconnect frequently because in bridge mode doesn't have DHCP reserved?
My bro bought other one is DIR-655. DAP-1522 keep in [bridge mode] to link to DIR-655 (Static IP), and setup DHCP Reserved. He feel relief that works very well and have no problem with any computers and devices doesn't disconnect anymore. my question is why DAP-1522 doesn't have DHCP reserved when bridge mode that connected to any providers modem?

I am running a DAP-1522 (v1.21) in Bridge mode with a DIR-615 (1.00VG). I have configured the DAP-1522 to access the WiFi network and can see it connects correctly. I have a PC connected to the DAP-1522. Most of the time I can ping the DAP-1522 from the PC but cannot ping the DIR-615. Occasionally when I reboot everything again I can ping the DIR-615 and get full internet access but this usually only lasts a minute or so then it drops. After that I can only ping the DAP-1522. The DAP-1522 always says the Status is "connected" though.
The IP addresses are as follows:
DIR-615: 192.168.0.1
DAP-1522: 192.168.0.50 (static)
PC: 192.168.0.55 (static)

I turned it on for bridging and it did not auto setup wireless so i need to turn off WPS but my wireless option page is now blank. I rebooted, reset the DAP but still no manual config option. I found I could configure it if I switched it to AP mode but still cannot setup from bridge mode. According to manual a reset does not turn off WPS so what is the answer?

If you are using DAP-1522 A1 and set to 5GHz 802.11 n bridge mode but disconnect randomly. Don't bother to do any troubleshooting because DAP-1522 A1 only support 802.11 draft n and incompatible with 802.11 n. If unit still under warranty then call D-Link and request unit replacement and ask for hardware reversion B1.

I have a DAP-1522 in my den that I am connecting as a bridge to a Netgear WNDR3800 that in turn is connected to a cable modem in my living room. I have multiple PC's connected to the DAP-1522 via the Ethernet Ports. All the Ethernet connected PC's are getting IP addresses from my Netgear WNDR3800 via DHCP and can access the Internet fine. The weird thing is the PC's connected to the DAP-1522 through the Ethernet ports can't see each other - they are isolated from each other. I can see the DAP-1522 hard wired PC's from a laptop connected wirelessly through the Netgear WNDR3800 but the PC's wired to the DAP-1522 can't see each or communicate to each other via IP, though they can communicate to anything else on the Netgear WNDR3800 wireless network or Internet.Only the PC's connected to the DAP-1522 via the Ethernet ports are isolated from each other. Very strange. This is a problem because I have a NAS device I want to connect to the DAP-1522 that will be shared by the PCs in my den. I do software development and want access between the PC's and NAS device at Ethernet Gigabit speed. I am using default configurations for the DAP-1522. It appears that firmware for the bridging function if funky. I am on firmware version 1.41. The hardware release is A1.Not sure if it is an issue with the DAP-1522 or the Netgear WNDR3800.

It took a while but I've had my 1522 running well for several days. However, if I power down and then power up the 1522, it never reconnects. The bridge mode light flashes 5 times, then - nothing.
So, I have to disconnect everything, bring the 1522 back to my main PC, attach it, let it connect properly, then unattach and re-attach at it's use site.
(I'm using a static IP address and a Cisco E3000 router working perfectly with all my other stuff. Firmware v1.31)

I have just upgraded my network to the 802.11n standard, or at least am trying to do that. Im using a DIR-615 as Access Point and a DAP-1522 as bridge to cover the entire area. After having some trouble figuring out how to set up and connect the devices, i figure out that it might some other problem than my setup of the devices (The symptom was that the connection was ok, but then it seemed to be dropped, even though the DAP-1522 still displayed connected in the status page).
After reading what I could find about the DIR-615 and DAP-1522 in this forum and on the internet, I found a suggestion about changing the Wireless Mode from 802.11b/g/n to 802.11b/g, and after doing that everything works fine, its just not an upgrade anymore.I have fixed the channel to 10, just to check that it wasnt noise from other equipment. The symptoms are very reproducable, trying to connect wiin n-mode and bridge only works for 30-60 secs. Switching back to b/G mode and all is fine.

I want to send a WoL (wake on lan) packet to power up a PC which is wired to DAP-1522. The DAP-1522 is connected to my DIR-655 router wirelessly. So far, I have no luck. Do you know if the DAP-1522 is capable of passing the WoL? Does it need a firmware upgrade before it can do so?

We currently use the DIR 655 in our home. I has a great range, and we've never had any problems. Our house is a very tall Victorian, so some areas don't get as strong a signal as others. I'd like to set up a few addition devices to extend the coverage of our network.
I installed a DAP 1522 as a bridge to our entertainment PC. After a while of trying to sort out how to configure it everything is working there. The 1522 is connected to the PC via cable.
I still want to extend the overall wireless range to better cover the lower floors and back porch.
From reading the manual on the 1522 I am a bit confused. I understand how it works as a bridge, connecting devices via cable. Will it also extend the range is set as an Access Point without needing the devices to connect via cable?

I have a WIN XP desktop which I successfully connected to the 1522 AP - as evidence of the GUI to program it. I have the 1522 set to Bridge Mode via the switch on the unit. The 1522 has hardware version B1 and Firmware version 2.000. I joined my wireless network successfully as evidence of the Status page showing it's successfully connected and bridged to my network. I then disabled my USB wifi NIC in hopes of using my hardwired connection to the 1522 to get on the internet.

I already have a DIR-855 and was considering using a DAP-1522 in conjunction to bridge my 5GHz N to my living room to feed HD media to my PVR box and also feed wired-only clients like my TV and BR player. But, in my new flat I find that the walls are pretty thick and my wifi signal is dropping off pretty quick, so I was wondering if you can configure the DAP-1522 to simultaneously be a wifi bridge to feed my media clients, and an AP to feed any laptops that might be in use in the living room?

I've been playing with this setup for over a month with no real success. I'm trying to use the DAP-1522 as a wireless bridge to provide connectivity to my entertainment center which consist of a PS3, Directv DVR and Internet ready TV. I tried the setup as described in the manual, but not getting to the internet. Initially I was able to connect the 1522 as a bridge, but the connection kept dropping, especially anytime I actually used the internet (downloading a VOD movie). While troubleshooting the dropping issue, I changed all the 1522 settings and now it cannot access the internet at all through. The WNDR3700 is routing my home network fine...it is setup on the 192.168.1.x address space. I understand the 1522 came setup for 192.168.0.x, is the 192.168.1.x/192.168.0.x thing jacking things up? I initially had the 1522 setup with the 192.168.1.x IP from my home network and the gateway set to my WNDR3700 (192.168.1.1)...should it be on the 192.168.0.x? I have updated the firmware to 1.31.

I purchased a wireless bridge D-Link DAP-1522 (IP fix 192.168.0.50) to share the Internet connection to two remote devices: WD TV Live HD (IP fix 192.168.0.52) and a Samsung BD P2500 player (IP fix 192.168.0.51: to try the BD-Live) but when I plug it into my network I have an IP conflict and I can not navigate anywhere, even by the computer which control the Netgear router (IP 192.168.0.1 DHCP range 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.49).
I tried with all fixed IP (192.168.0.xxx Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.1 DNS 192.168.0.1), but nothing to do, I have the same problem: after a few minutes after plugged the network cable into BD player the network falls. With wired connection (10 m of patch cable!!!) Samsung BD P2500 have no problem (DHCP and IP fix).
Then look closely in the information relating to devices connected to the Netgear router I noticed that all devices connected through the bridge DAP-1522 have the different IP but same MAC address and I think this could be the cause of the problem that creates the Blu Ray when it's connected to the network through the bridge, because he is not identified with any name but only as UNKNOWN as the bridge (a problem that WD Live not seen: same MAC address but is identified by name as WDTVLIVE).
How can I make the MAC addresses from the bridge will be recognized separately from my router/modem Netgear? In the settings of the bridge I noticed that you can enable or disable MAC address cloning, but if the off I would expect that cloning was not done and instead all the devices are identified by the Netgear router with the MAC address of the access bridge. The DAP-1522 masked the MAC address of device that are plugged into bridge. The router has the latest available firm while the original bridge has version 1.20 (the penultimate version available).

I Recently purchased the DAP1522 to use as an entertainment bridge for my xbox 360, BR player and dish network receiver I also upgraded my router a WRT5GS running tomato to a Linksys E4200 going from G to N while i had my Xbox and BR connected wireless I didn't have the Dish receiver hooked up so i thought by using the DAP i would be upgrading my network and connecting my Dish receiver no brainier right and everything works so far.But here's the question with all the hype of the benefits of the 5ghz channel , well it's not hype it certainly makes sense but from what I see the products have to be compatible shouldn't what I'm connecting be compatible they say your gaming console specifically and streaming movies i would think . Any configuration tips I read somewhere that with an E3200 router they had to set the 5ghz channel to like 37 for the DAP to see that channel its all getting a little overwhelming here's whats in the house A Mac Power PC pre Intel using a Asus NB13 USB 2.4ghz its the only thing i could find with speeds over 100Mbps A windows 7 machine hardwired gig connection another windows 7 pc downstairs hardwired a netbook with a wireless connection and lastly a DECT 6.0 phone system who knows what interference these produce.

I have a DSL router Pirelli PDF A1000G.I have a Linksys e3000 and I have a dap-1522.When I bought a dap-1522 I thought it could do access point in fact i saw many videos in dlinktv before choosing an access point from DIY with mike etc to youtube there are 2 videos one showing bridged mode and another ap mode! Now what happens is this I have upgraded from firmware 1.11 that came as default to 1.21 i connect it wired to my linksys e3000 when it is connected with the ethernet cable wired I can connect to the internet and navigate and open sites and my ps3 can connect to it but my range is not very good only 40%!
Now I bring it downstairs remove the ethernet cable and connect it to the power and then you can connect to it but since it isn't connected to my router which is upstairs i can't access websites neither can I play on my ps3!I don't know does only ap mode works when it is connected to the router wired because what happens is if you don't put ethernet cables in the back of the dap-1522 and just connect it to power then here doewnstairs you can connect to the dap-1522 my signal is like 87% but while I'm connected with my laptop I can't access websites and in the ps3 I can't connect!
and choose access points there are (4) listed: dap-1522, dap-1160, dap-1353 and dap-2553, I thought of buying dap-1522 because it could support abgn while 1160 only supports g and 1353 only supports n to repeat to signal here downstairs and be a good access point!

I've been running into an issue for the past week or so where my wireless adapter intermittently can't contact my router. When it occurs the network connection reads as having limited connectivity. I'm unable to send requests to load webpages, and videos and the like stop loading. Sometimes the network disconnects entirely. After this occurs, I can't connect again for a few minutes. My connection consistently reads as having 2-3 bars available. The issue tends to occur frequently, often every 15 minutes or so. Strangely enough, I have been able to play bf3 online for over 40 minutes without connection problems (I quit before any occurred - not sure if any would have). So far I've tried the windows troubleshooter, updating the driver to my wireless networking adapter, manually assigning my network address (tried 192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.5, etc), setting my 802.11b preamble to "Long only" and performing a system restore. I have rebooted my machine as well.
My technical specs are as follows:I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate N 64 bit edition with service pack 1. System has 8gb Ram, an i5-3570k processor and HD7850 graphics card. Motherboard is the Asrock Z77 extreme 4. My wireless network adapter is the TP-link TL-WN722N. The adapter was working fine for some time before this issue appeared. My router is an old U.S. Robotics Wireless MaxG Router. It seems to work fine with other computers in the household, although it does require fairly frequent power-cycling. Running ipconfig on the command prompt while the internet is working returns:

I have been using WAP4401N for almost a year in our office and I’m very happy of this device, never had any problem. So I bought 3 new ones for our customer which supposed to work in configuration below:
Network ----- AP1 –Bridge mode ----- AP2 – Bridge mode -----AP3 – Access Point mode.
Everything was working perfectly fine to the moment than bridge was broken. I can get access to all AP (obviously when connected to proper part of network) however not able to ping from AP2 -> AP1 or opposite so basically no link between AP1 and AP2. After reboot everything is working fine to next time (happens twice in two days). When I go to System Performance can see Connection is enabled but doesn’t work.
I upgraded firmware to latest version (2.0.5.3) but haven’t worked. When I’ve done some research found many users having similar problem with this device and basically they recommend to don’t buy. Unfortunately this is not an option for me as I’ve already purchased them.

I have a defective DAP-1522, or what. First off, I have never been able to access the unit at http://DLINKAP when my computer is connected directly to the 1522 via ethernet, only 192.168.0.50 works to bring up the web interface.
Second, I have more than one AP at my house, but the DAP-1522 is the only networking device I have have problems with (I am using the unit in AP mode). Basically, the problem is the wireless connection usually is much slower than my other APs (both N and G), even when the computer is physically right next to the DAP-1522. And that's when the unit is at it's best. At it's worst, I can't connect to the internet at all, even though my laptop shows full signal strength. The 1522 just seems really finicky. The problem doesn't seem to be a networking issue, because a 2nd AP that is connected through the wired portion of the DAP-1522 works perfectly, implying the 1522 is having no networking issues when using the ethernet ports. But since the problems persist with full signal strength and with the computer right next to the 1522, it doesn't seem to be a wireless connection issue either. And I have no problems connecting to any other wireless APs I own (and I own about 5 others, not that I use them all at the same time).
If I could, I would return my 1522, but I've been tinkering with it for too long now to return it. It has caused me a ton of frustration. I had a wired-only router for a long time (hence the purchase of the 1522), but just bought a new wireless-N router that is performing perfectly (as a router, and as an N AP). I hoped the old router might have not been playing nice with the 1522, but have seen no improvement with the 1522 wired to the new router (on opposite ends of my home).
Note that I use Macs only, no Windows machines. I started with the 1.02 firmware for the 1522, now have 1.20 firmware, but have noticed no improvements with my issues.

Trying to use TL-WR702N in bridge mode at a hotel. For some reason, every time I set the DHCP parameters to enable DHCP, then save and reboot, upon reboot DHCP is disabled. Of course, without DHCP then bridge mode is useless because I cannot then share the hotel wifi connection with multiple devices.Am I missing something obvious, or is there a trick to getting DHCP to be accepted?

I've got a DIR-655 set in bridge mode after a Cisco router. It's been working great for months, but now I'd like to add a new wireless device and want to get the settings. For the life of me, I can't remember how to access it now.The subnet is 192.168.2.XXX I've got a Mac connected through the "internet" port and a cat5 cable. I figure I should be able to go from 192.168.2.1 through 192.168.2.254 and will eventually find it. Is there something I'm missing?

I currently have frontier dsl internet and am using the isp provided modem/router combo and a DIR-655. I have the modem running in bridge mode and the 655 set to PPPoe connection, MTU at 1492. I confirmed the MTU setting on the isp modem/router before bridging it. The question i have is if the router MTU is set to 1492 does everything on the LAN side of the router run at 1492 or does it run at 1500 while the router breaks the packets up? Everything works fine but my pc's all use vista and i'm not sure where to check the mtu settings at and all my game consoles are set to mtu automatic so i can't really see what they're running at either.

I have a DIR-655 set up as follows: [code] Lost Internet Access on my DAP-1522 on only my wireless laptop connection, but not other wireless nodes on the DAP-1522.I have most of my wireless nodes attached to the DIR-655, which is upstairs. Downstairs is where the DAP-1522 is located. There is a wired connection between the DIR-655 and DAP-1522. The DAP-1522 is being used as a Access Point. On this I have only three nodes that are wireless. My Smartphone, iPad and my laptop. There are also three nodes that are using the wired ports with no issue accessing the internet. The setup above have being working for over two years with no issue. Then three days ago my laptop connects to the DAP-1522, but has "No Internet Access." If I change my wireless connection to the DIR-655 on my laptop, then I do have internet connection. My Smartphone and iPad still are able to access the DAP-1522 and get the internet.
I have deleted my DHCP Reservation for only my laptop on the DIR-655. Wireless connection to the DAP-1522, looked at the DIR-655 and see that DHCP Reservation show the MAC of the laptop and I Reserve it. Still "No Internet Access." On the DAP-1522 it does show that my laptop is associated to this device. I cannot ping my local LAN IP Addresses , a website or Public IP Address only from the laptop. The DIR-655 shows a "Do Not Enter: Wireless system with MAC address 4025C2B97110 disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication" with a connection to the DAP-1522, but shows "Do Not Enter: Wireless system with MAC address 4025C2B97110 secured and linked" with a connection to the DIR-655.

I have called tech support 4 times now, and I still can't get everything to play nice...I have the 655 set up as a wireless router to a Windows 7 laptop, one iPad, two iTouches, and one N3DS. I can't find a setting that will work with all devices. Here are the senarios...
1) Settings: Wireless enabled, 802.11n only, Auto Scan off-channel set to 1, Best Transmission rate, Channel Width Auto 20/40, Visible, Auto WPA Mode with AES Cipher and a pre-share key. This yields fantastic results with my laptop, it can stream video for entire episodes, and I have no problems with loading webpages in either IE or Firefox. However, it does not support the kids iTouches or N3DS.
2) Changed the above to mixed 802.11n/g AND ALSO tried 802.11 only: iTouches work and can connect to the internet, but laptop doesn't like it. I get "Problem loading webpage" every other time I access and website, and streaming stop every 5-6 minutes. Bars indicate wireless signal is strong, but intermittently get that yellow triangle.
