View 7 RepliesBasically when I try and connect to my wifi (netgear router) I get a very strong signal but local only access & an unidentified network. I have my desktop & 2 more laptops running off this router so it can't be that.After failing to connect to wifi I tried to use an ethernet connection to try and update my drivers in hope that would fix the wifi problem. After plugging the ethernet in I was in exactly the same position, I kept getting 'Identifying' appear in network connections which then turned to unidentified and wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet either!The laptop is about 3-4 years old I think so I did update the drivers but that didn't do anything either,

I used the internet for about a minute then my internet disconnected and was unusable. I opened my desktop computer to see whats wrong but the connection there also stopped. I troubleshooted and it says i cannot communicate with Primary DNS server. It says i am connected but i have no internet access. I am currenty using my iPhone to type this.

EDIT: I think i may have deleted the ethernet driver to reset my drivers but i have no idea how to get the ethernet driver back. Oh yes when I tried the ipconfig in CMD, under Ethernet adapter local area connection i get media diconnected and not much else for that.

I can use cable modem that my ISP gave to me: this modem acts as bridge so I can use router with FE-based WAN but it is better to have one device instead of two.

We have AT&T U-Verse and the 2 gateways get speeds of ~12Mb/s while I get speeds of less than 3Mb/s. I've searched countless forums but I can't seem to find the problem. We got U-verse installed in January and the internet on my laptop was on par with the other ones. But I went back to school and came back home for break and it's as slow as mollases.

I'm using a different laptop on the same router to make this post.I have another laptop which cannot browse the internet.It runs on Windows 7, can connect to the router fine, but get no intenet connection. However, I recently moved in with my girlfriend who has a Virgin media connection and, although I can connect to it without problems, it is extremely slow (around 0.30 mbps) whereas my girlfriend's laptop is fine (9.74 mbps), we both have iPhones which are also fine therefore I'm pretty certain the problem lies with my laptop. I have tried updating the wireless card's drivers (windows tells me they are up to date) and I've also tried disabling my Norton 360 but it didn't make any difference.

New laptop, Sony Vaio. At first it started having problems holding a wireless internet connection (kept dropping) now it won't connect at all, wirelessly.I have a Dlink DIR 625 modem which was working perfectly. I bought a new one, thinking this was the issue. Same thing happened. Contacted my ISP, they said the modem was fine (even came out to confirm). It is a Scientific Atlanta modem. Contacted Sony and their tech did a lot of R.C to my laptop and tried a number of things. They couldn't solve it, thought it was a hardware issue (loose wire in the network card) so they had me bring it out of town to be fixed. I did that, they said it wasn't hardware that it was software and that it was working in their store. I got it home and it still didn't work.To be on the safe side, I swapped out the modem and got a new one. Still not working. I followed instructions in previous forums to do a 'stack reset' and it still didn't resolve my issue.I updated the network drivers from Sony's site, disabled AVG firewall entirely and it still doesn't work. I can connect now only by hard line connection but even still it drops. [code]

In the same room as the router it is fine. This has only just starting happening and it was OK anywhere in the house until a couple of days ago. My local computer guy said that it is a hard disk problem and ended up putting new hard disks and reinstalled XP. But I keep internet connection after about 5-10 minutes. If I disable and enable "Local Area Connection" it works for sometime and stops again. I have a Cisco wireless router that I use. I use that to browse with my iPhone as well.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy aunt called me about her laptop not being able to connect to her wireless anymore. It was working fine until last week and since then, she can't get on. She has a netbook that can connect to the wireless and a desktop that's plugged in from the wireless router. When she tries to connect to the wireless, it says it's connected but shows no internet access in the Network Sharing Center.
I tried plugging it in directly from the router and I get the same message. I've made sure to enable the wireless and have even uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver for the card. It's an Acer laptop with the network adapters Atheros AR5B95 Wireless adapter and Atheros AR8152/8158 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.
I have even brought her laptop to my house and tried to connect via wireless and a direct cable, but I get the same issue.
My hp mini will not connect to the internet, even with a cable directly from the modem. We downloaded a bunch of games from the internet, and then in removing the junk, may have deleted vital components. My device manager has "other devices" and under that has "ethernet controller" and "network controller," neither of which has a driver. Windows was unable to find a driver when I tried to reinstall the driver (although I'm not sure whether there should be one - the icon next to everything in this category is a yellow question mark). I thought the problem was just a wireless issue until this morning, when I hooked it up with a cable to try to find a wireless driver. It does not connect with the cable either, and now I am really lost.

I believe there is a box the size of a power box in the back room for the Internet.All my other devices (MAC, iPod, Blueray Player) are able to recieve instant and unbelieveable internet connection except for my Dell. I was having internet problems pior to this happening (internet was being very slow and some web pages and some videos wouldn't load. I think the latter had to do with flash player though.) I had also been doing some stupid stuff on my comp that I know can give you viruses. Furthermore I also knew that due to previous virus's I was not able to do a restore. So as you have probably gathered my computer was pretty buggered even before this problem. So decided to restore to factory default using some backup images I made when I first got the comp. That went smoothly however the internet stilll doesn't work unless I plus it in using a ethernet cable.

I can no longer access the internet, and the internet has been difficult to bring up for one to two weeks.Internet light does not come on. Under Status tab, interface is down, tried refresh and connect but nothing.The IP address can be pinged, 4 packets sent and 4 packets received. Tried resetting defaults and refreshing but no success.Bought this router in September 2008 to replace WAG54G which was constantly turning on and off every few seconds.
