Jul 11, 2012Recently, due to some reason I have not yet figured out, my laptop has started bugging out with the wi-fi and connecting to my wireless connection at home. What it does is it keeps trying to connect, and sort of connects. It gets that little yellow triangle, and says Limited Connectivity. When I check the status, I am in fact getting an IP address, and everything SEEMS to be in order. On my router's configuration page, however, I cannot see my laptop's MAC address in the list of attached wireless devices. The internet does seem to work for about a few minutes every time I restart the router.
At first I thought it might have been an IP conflict issue, so I tried setting up a static IP on my laptop. Then I tried reserving an IP for my laptop through the router. Then I tried both. And while all three attempts seemed to have fixed the problem, it came back within a few minutes.

Mar 3, 2013All of a sudden the wifi on my laptop has been really slow lately. I remember before I could stream 720p videos without any buffer on Youtube. Now I'm lucky if I can somewhat stream a 340p without the occasional stutters/buffers. Sometimes I would be getting 39 Mbps or 52 Mbps (if I'm really lucky) , but most of the times I would get either 26-19 Mbps. On all my other devices (iPod, Family Desktop, iPhone) the internet speed seems just fine as they can stream in 720p and browse without any network problems. Also I am upstairs with the router downstairs in the family room.
My results from Speedtest.net - 25 ms, 2.56 Mbps Download Speed, 0.38 Mbps Upload Speed.
This result is VERY UNSTABLE, sometimes I couldn't even get 1 Mbps download speed (more like 0.8). I would also have like 50 ms. I am running Windows 8 Pro with a Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop.DHCP is enabled. IPv6 is not. I made sure everything was updated using Windows Update. And I'm only using the windows defender firewall which I made wasn't blocking anything by disabling it and seeing if it cleared up any problems - which it did not, the same thing happened.

Oct 26, 2012A couple weeks ago my HP laptop stopped working. It would not boot and I had to put in the recovery discs to get it working again. Before this the laptop had connected fine to my home wifi secured with WPA2-PSK[AES]. After this problem tho it refuses to connect while it is secured. When not secure it functions fine and I am currently using it to type this post. I would have no problem continuing to use the wifi unsecured but another member of my household works with confidential medical information from home and is worried about the lack of security. Feb 23, 2011I am attempting to connect to a residential wireless network on a router that was installed up by an engineer this morning.When the engineer was here he connected an HP laptop using XP to the wireless router. Mar 19, 2011So here is what happened, it started two days ago. I use a wifi connection at work, it's an unsecure wifi and I don't know where it comes from. But I am able to get on here at work and do stuff... two days ago I tried and it let me on like normal, but then I couldn't get on websites, it said local access only... so I was like mmm that's odd and the little CD looking thing wasn't there it was just two computers on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. So I restarted after attempting a few times... same problem, finally after a while it let me online but it was very slow and kept kicking me off. When I would try to reconnect sometimes it wouldn't let me and it would give me the option to diagnose the problem or try a new network, I'd move around and finally get on.
I restored back to a day when it was working fine, I did a disc clean up, I used my CCleaner, I defragged my laptop.
