View 2 RepliesI have 2 desktops (running windows 7), a Canon MF8300 printer, and an outgoing ethernet line, all on a Netgear Advanced Cable Modem Gateway CGD24-CPR. I'm only concerned with having the 2 desktops set up with the Canon printer. Both computers have been connected to the printer before and I have the startup disk. But once the new offices were set up and both of the desktops were moved, I can no longer access or find the printer.
I can IPconfig the Desktops for their IPV4 addresses and both desktops recognize eachother on a Homegroup, but I can't find the printer. I printed off the print configuration page from the printer which gave me an IP address (printer is set for auto-obtain), but using an IP search won't bring up the printer. All of the devices are plugged into ethernet ports set up for the three different office they are in and the actual location of the Netgear cable modem/router is over 100 feet away. My primary concern is getting the printer for the desktops, but I also need to add a wireless router into one of those office in the future.
I have 4 computers (3 laptops, 1 desktop) in a shared office. We get internet access using their wireless network. All works fine. However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?

Only one user account on each, with no password.I can share files between the two computers, but only by putting the shared files in the Public folders, otherwise access is denied based on username and password. It is inconvenient, but I can live with sharing files through the Public access. However, a printer connected via USB to the desktop cannot be seen from the laptop. This desktop is new. It replaced an XP desktop on which file and printer sharing worked easily with the same network.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a Verizon T1 line providing internet for our backoffice network. On this network, we have 4 network printers that are shared between the facility. We recently opted to go with new web based software that neccesitates a high speed internet connection, and 12 wireless devices across the building. We signed a contract with Comcast Business Class internet, so that in the event of an external failure with one ISP, we would have the other offer redundancy with the new wireless router. It has now become clear that our nurses that are on the Comcast wireless network, now need to print from their wireless devices regularly. At the time this is obviously not possible, because the network printers are only on our backoffice network. Buying a wireless inkjet printer is out of the question. How can I make this happen? All of the printers have a local static IP on our backoffice network (Verizon). I have heard of software that will essentially send the print job to another computer, which would relay the print job to the designated printer.

The printer cable is connected to the Windows 7 computer. The print function works fine on the Windows 7 but doesn't work on Windows XP. Asking me for a "printer name" and I don't know what to put in that option. When I go to printers and faxes I click on each of the options under shared printers and it still asks for "printer name"?

The desktop is hardwired into the router and the laptop is wireless. Im using Panda Internet Security 2012, Windows Firewall and Defender. If I want to print something from my Laptop, Im able to by having the Desktop PC and printer turned on and have the Windows Firewall enabled and the Panda Firewall disabled on both machines. If I have the Panda Firewall enabled on both PCs and the Windows Firewall disabled, then the printer will not print from the laptop.I have read that the Windows firewall will automatically adjust settings for the 2 PCs, but I would prefer to use the Panda Firewall.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had to replace my wireless router and when I try to reconnect my printer this is what I get: Your wireless router requires a WEP security key. The security key configured on your printer does not match exactly. Reconfigure your wireless network WEP security key for your printer. Your printer has limited connectivity. Your printer is using IP address 169.254.xx.xxx which is not compatible with the IP address 192.16x.x.x of the pc.I had to changed the WEP security key I used on the old router as the orginal security key had been used by someone without permission. Before this I had no problems using the printer on my old routerI have tried turning everything off and unplugging it but that does not work, I tried resetting the wireless settings on the printer, yet that did not work. I am using Windows Vista service pack 2 on a Compaq Presario laptop, the wireless router is a Netgear N600, and the printer is an HP Photosmart C4740.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two different friends that are having problems with their printers which are connected to their home network. One has an Lexmark printer wired to their router and running Windows Vista on a laptop. The other has an HP printer connected to the network wirelessly and the laptop is running Windows 7.
In both cases, they are setup to use DHCP. When first setup and the printer software was installed, everything worked fine. Now they each get a message showing 'offline' when they try to print. I went to each of their houses, downloaded and installed the latest printer software and they were printing again. After a short time, the same problem surfaces.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 XP machines, both connected to a network switch which connects them to a print server attached to a printer. The last print server recently died and has been replaced, but the problem remains. I've downloaded the driver from the printer manufacturers website and installed on both XP machines, one functions fine but after each reboot the printer is grayed out on the other. Removing it and adding again fixes this until the next reboot.I am aware of some networking issues at this site which result in a few dropped packets between sites but shouldn't be an issue here since they are all attached to the same switch.
