Protocols / Routing :: Use A Router To Catch Another Routers Wifi?

Jan 17, 2013

I have a wifi network on my college campus, but my laptops wifi does not work. But i have a spare router with multiple lan ports. Can I use it to detect the wifi signal(from campus routers) and then use a LAN wire to use the internet on my computer? I do not have access privileges to the college router other than connecting to its wifi signal.

Getting Ps3 To Catch Wifi Connection

Jan 23, 2011

My friend has a PS3 and it doesn't catch the WiFi signal from the router.Router is a Belkin 54g. The PC's in the house all have a perfect wifi signal. I personally have never owned a PS3 or seen the settings/menus/options.He told me he tried to do a "quick format" and messed around with settings but still doesn't get a signal. The PS3 is the old fat bulky ones.He used to be able to get a signal a while back but it was only for a couple days and now he just gets nothing. Is it possible the wifi card in there needs to be replaced?I have not seen his WiFi setup options or distance of ps3 to router.

Protocols / Routing :: Secure Wifi / Public Shared Drive One Computer

Jan 6, 2012

I am trying come up with a setup that allows for a computer to simultaneously be connected to the web via a secure wireless network and to provide a shared drive via an unsecured (possibly ad hoc) wireless network.Which is to say, the computer needs to be able to use the web wirelessly via the secure network, and people need to be able to share files with it wirelessly whether or not THEY can use the secure wifi. One last requirement is that I need a this to be something that I can set up in a given location with no more configuration than required to connect to the secured wifi - if the setup requires me to mess around with the configuration of the router for the secure network itself, it won't work.

Protocols / Routing :: Port Forwarding Through 2 Routers?

Jun 16, 2012

I am trying to port forward for Vuze and I am having a problem understanding the concepts at [URL] for working within two routers. I have a Zoom 5241 cable modem connected through a Motorola VT2442-VD for Vonage VOIP, then connected through my Netgear RangeMax WPN824v3 wireless router, to my computer. I am also running AVG internet security. Here is a look at my ipconfig /all:

C:Users
ex>ipconfig /all
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : MarekFamily
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

[code]....

However, I do not understand where to setup the static ips and where to drop DHCP to be able to port forward successfully. I have tried in Vuze to set up acceptable ports 51600 for TCP and UDP, but they continue to get this error: "NAT Error - Connect attempt to 67.60.124.173:51600 (your computer) timed out after 20 seconds. This means your port is probably closed." I do know that the Ip present is from my Vonage with my external IP address. I even tried to establish rules for TCP and UDP within AVG Firewall settings for the Vuze program.

Internet Would Just At Random Stop For Like 2-3 Seconds Then Catch Up With Itself?

Jun 19, 2011

my internet would just at random STOP for like 2-3 seconds then catch up with itself. I have 3 computers, 1 printer, a laptop and an xbox all setup on a NetGear N300 Router. the 3 computers and xbox are directly connected to the router. the printer and laptop are wireless. The Road Runner Modem is a CISCO Cable Modem DPC2100R2. Now when this random STOP happens... on programs like Teamspeak peoples voices cut out but then quickly catch up with themselves. On Black Ops PC and Xbox everyone freezes for a few seconds then catch up to themselves and I'll get a connection interrupted. I'd be asking friends around me to see if they got that "Connection Interrupted" and they say no. On Rock Band 3 I get randomly disconnected from the game with everyone asking what happened...When this STOP happens... my computer doesn't give me any error message like "Local Area Connection is unplugged" or anything like that. I've tried checking my CISCO modem's log and it shows no problems.Last week I swapped out the Road Runner Modem at their swap shops to see if that was the problem. Obviously it isn't. The Router I had before the NetGear did the same exact thing except it was a westell...I've tried directly connecting the modem to the computer and trying that to see if there was some kind of miscommunication between the router and the modem... same thing.

I have an IP camera etc that I need to access from the WWW. If I do this does this have any security implications; both for my network or the guestsMy reasoning is not; as the TP-Link still acts as my firewall and the specific address of the TP-Link doesn't affect the guest, but I thought I'd check with the Pros!?

Protocols / Routing :: Why Would 10.1.1.1/24 Router Communicate To 10.1.1.2/8 Host

Feb 19, 2013

I am just confused over the fact that a router configured with 10.1.1.1 address (assuming it's got 255.255.255.0 mask) can communicate to a PC connected to one of it's LAN ports and manually setup to have 10.1.1.2/8 address. I was sure that since these are two different subnets they won't see each other. But they do and searched wiki and just googled to see why, but with no success. A friend of my friend says something about 'same range' but it makes little sense to me.

I just need a good article about it or a crystall clear explanation, because I feel my understanding of IP is not as good as I used to believe.

Protocols / Routing :: Connecting To Internet Via Router

Mar 31, 2011

I have att dsl and they supplied me with a modem, a motorola model type 2210, and my belkin surf N300 router is giving me issues connecting to the internet. Im pretty sure my wireless network adapter is a netgear wg311v3.The issue im having is that sometimes i can connect to the internet just fine, and sometimes i cant connect to the internet. I know it is a router issue because when i plug the modem into my comp, i can access the internet 100% fine.I also think it is not a wireless network adapter issue because i ran an ethernet cable from the router to my comp and had the same issues. There are 2 other computers on the network, one of them is a year or two newer than my dell desktop, and has no issues whatsoever connecting to the internet via the router. The other computer on the network is a Wii, and has connection issues when playing online (probly a different issue), but can access the internet no problem.

Protocols / Routing :: Accessing IP's On Router Connected To Another One?

Jan 29, 2011

I have recently changed my ISP and as such now have a modem router from them, however I used to have a seperate modem connected to my own router that I have already set up to have port forwarding to my CCTV, DVR and networked storage (Built into exsistine router).Since connecting the new modem router to my exsisting router I have been unable to access the CCTV, DVR and Storage from outside my LAN.

I guess this is because the devices are on the client list of my old router and not on my modem router. Is there anyway I can access the old port forwards through the new modem router, it used to be a matter of just xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9966 for example but now this would try to access the modem router and not the router it's connected to.

I have not found any options to disable the router side of it to make it act as just a modem. The hardware is a Virgin Media Super Hub model connected to a D-Link Dir-685.For arguments sake the IP address of my D-Link is 192.168.0.1 and the Super hub is 192.168.100.

Protocols / Routing :: No Internet Access With New Router

Dec 18, 2012

I have a little problem with installing my new router. There were quite a lot of problems with the old smc, so I've bought a TP-Link router. I installed it just alright, it said congratulations, you have internet. I don't have though, not even on the directly plugged computer. It's kind of frustrating, since the old router is still working like before. So I plugged an ethernet cable from the old router's lan to the tp-link wan and with that, the new network is working just fine. The problem with the internet access occurs only, if the router is directly plugged to the modem. (The computers do find the network but the connection is kind of offline.) I don't really know what could be the problem, since I'm a little new to routers. I've read almost everything in the new router's manual and I'm pretty sure it's installed correctly. (ADSL username and password copied from the old settings, mac address copied, all ip addresses pinged, done power cycle etc..) I thought about resetting the modem, but I'm a bit afraid of losing the old router's internet connection as well.

Protocols / Routing :: LAN-Side Authentication At Router For Using Internet

Jan 23, 2013

Basically I have a win2000 server running as a VM in my computer with a secondary LAN address(Different subnet) which acts as a gateway for the other devices on my network (e.g. my wifi-router has DHCP relay set to my VM's address). The VM uses another network(internal NAT) for accessing the Internet though my computer. So far, I've managed to set up the DHCP and routing. Other devices on my network have access to the internet. But, since my computer has only one NIC, and even though the VM uses a secondary IP address, it's still on the same network as my internet connection. There are computers that belong to other people, who I do not want to give access through my router(even though their computers are picked up by my DHCP). I was given only one IP address for usage on my computer. This is why I wanted to add some kind of an authentication procedure(like some sort of PPPoE login maybe?)so as to prevent unauthorized usage my my connection. The question is, 'What are my options for the authentication procedure, and where do I start?' If my explanation was unclear.
