View 4 RepliesI have a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. I need to connect to Netzero dialup, being used just for light email/web. The laptop does not have a modem, only a network jack and USB ports, no RJ-11 modem jack.
Will a USB modem function with Netzero OK? Any recommendations? Been browsing for one, found some on ebay, but need to know more before making a choice.
I am without my connection until repairs are made inthe following week. I am trying to set up netzero with my current equipment, but cannot find the cd for my netgear router WNR1000.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Vostro 460 desktop, recently bought, and then realized it would be better to add wireless router. Bought router and a PCIe wireless mini card that was suggested for my PC on Dell order site. The card arrived and am trying to install. The end plate with the aerial socket is not compatible with the removable access blanks in rear of case. Have I been sent an incorrect or unsuitable card, or is there some trick or adapting needed to install this card?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Ever since I installed some Bluetooth software the internet connection icon has displayed a red X and is not reporting on the real name for my router. It only says 'Network 2 Internet access Unidentified network No internet access'. I have seen a previous post on this subject in this forum, but I want to clarify EXACTLY what I would need to do to fix the problem. According to Device Manager I have two entries under Network Adaptors: NVIDEA nForce Networking Controller VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter (I am using VirtualBox to run Windows 8 and Ubuntu). If I were to uninstall the NVIDEA driver what would I reinstall? The existing version on my hard disk somewhere? I used Update Driver and it said I had the latest drivers so I assume that's what I have available locally.

I have downloaded all the most recent drivers for this motherboard. I'm running an EVGA NForce 680i SLI Motherboard (model# 122-CK-NF68). However the problem Im having is that in the Network Connection window there is no 'icon' to configure for my ethernet connection. I have looked at the Device Manager and ALL components are working properly. There are no 'X' or '?' labelled on any of the Network devices. I have done a ton of research on this Forum and have tried a dozen things and still can't seem to figure it out. I dont have intermediate syndrome so I'm not willing to take any chances with something I don't know.

View 12 Replies View RelatedSome time ago the mother-board ethernet card on my Dell Dimension 8400 failed, so I fitted a PCI card, and all was well: The failed card was Broadcom NetExtreme 57xx. The PCI one is Realtek RL8139. I got back onto the web, even though one of the (now two icons) in the system tray has a red cross, and all seemed well.
Recently I wanted to set up a home network with a wireless laptop, and though both machines seem to see each other I cannot connect the PC to the LAN to share files. The Ethernet icon in the tray has a red cross, and gives the pop-up "Not Connected - no connections are available". The Network and Sharing Centre will not let me connect, apparently because it thinks I am connected to a public network, which I cannot change to work or home. but it also has a red cross on the PC to Internet connection. If I run the troubleshooter, it cannot find and fix any problems. In the security settings app, I have set the radio buttons to be able to change the status of networks, and to rename them. If I try to connect from the laptop to the PC, I am asked for a network ID and password, but there is nowhere for me to set this up. I have a wireless dongle, but this gives the same symptoms. I am able to connect to a wireless printer (ethernet cable to router, then wireless to the printer).
I have tried many things, always making sure I have Administrator privileges. I don't know whether the problem is that the PC only sees the faulty modem, or is something to do with the public network status, which I have seen as a problem in many other posts, but none of the solutions have worked. I have uninstalled the faulty modem, but obviously cannot physically remove it, as it is part of the motherboard.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's been doing this for over 7 or 8 hours now. And no, there's no network connection, that's what the problem is here. This is a Windows XP desktop.Basically what it's doing is within a second, this icon disappears from the taskbar, then reappears, over and over again: When I hover over it, it gives me a message about not being connected. I can't get the exact message screencapped and I can hardly even read it, it disappears too quickly.Sometimes it gives me this instead, and the connection works, but only for as long as this icon is there:But it disappears too quickly for me to load any pages completely, so they always end up being incomplete pages. When I hover over this one, it says acquiring network address. When I click repair, it gets stuck on "renewing IP address" every time, without fail.
Previously the internet connection would drop occasionally, but restarting the computer has always brought it back. I have tried this countless times by now, I have tried clicking repair, I have tried resetting the router, I have tried manually removing the connection then reconnecting to it, I have tried command prompt and running through the ipconfig flushdns, release, and renew commands, I have tried logging on as a different user account, I have tried uninstalling my wireless adapter software then reinstalling it, I have tried using a different adapter [I get a different error with that one], I have ran a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware then retried all these things, but that didn't fix it either. If my brother wasn't asleep I'd be wiping the hard drive by now as a last resort. And I will be doing this first thing in the morning if it isn't fixed.
There is one other computer on the wireless network, and its connection never drops. Ever. It's a Windows 7 laptop. There are two other computers in the house, but they both connect using the ethernet cable, and those never drop, either. The two Wiis, the Xbox 360, and the 3DS also connect wirelessly, and one of the Wiis drops occasionally as well -- and it's not connecting right now, either. There is one more PC in the house, which also runs Windows XP, but I haven't gotten it to connect in weeks and I've pretty much given up on it. It'd be nice to get that to run, too, since I have to share this computer, but it's 7 years old, it's just too old and is stuck on "acquiring network address" with either adapter, if I'm remembering right.
This is everything I know. This problem is still occurring, and it just occurred randomly today, while the computer wasn't even in use. I can connect to the internet with a wired connection, but stretching the wire across the house isn't something the homeowner wants me to do, so I can't keep it permanently, as much as I desperately want to.I looked around at a few other threads and there was some sort of Wifi program I can install? But it won't install. Or rather, the .net framework is what's not installing. So I guess I can't use that. Hope it makes finding the problem still possible though, this is the only computer I have left since my other one won't connect anymore either.
I think my computer is infected with malware right now. It is heating up quickly and I'm seeing ads in text in websites that don't do that (cbc, reddit, wikipedia).I had this issue a couple of months ago but Spybot seemed to fix the issue.Recently I noticed my computer was heating faster (and hotter) than usual so I ran a search and it said no threats were found. Not too longer after I start noticing the ads again so I know there is a problem. I have ran the search twice since then and still nothing. I was advised to use ccleaner, malwarebytes, and Super Anti-Spyware. It removed one other threat but the problem was still there. I then started using combofix, but I did not like the look of it so I stopped that scan. It seemed a little sketchy.
My old laptop (the one I'm on now) and my girlfriend's laptop work fine. I connected it with the Ethernet cord and that didn't change anything.I have Windows 7. It's on a 2010 Samsung (I'm not very tech savvy so I'm not sure about all the other details). I primarily used Firefox, but I just switched to Googlechrome this week (well after the problems began).
I lost my internet connection icon in windows 7. When connected, the network notification and icon appears at the taskbar and displays how many bar signal the network has and it was working even earlier this afternoon here. I just used my wired connection for a short time and as i stopped using it then i discovered the wireless connection bar signal is lost, all for me to see a ' Round Star' in the bar side of my internet icon. Am connected to the internet but i can't my connection signal and i tried to restore my computer but after i do that i get a dialog say 'The system restore did not completely succesfully because an anti-virus is running on this computer and has prevented it from changing the settings, turn off anti-virus ans try again' but i have no anti-virus program on my PC.

Initially there was a yellow mark over network icon but it allowed me to access Internet. I was not bothered then..Offlate this has turned ugly. The yellow icon would not allow me to connect to internet through wifi or LAN
Sometimes LAN would connect but now a days connecting to wifi has become a real task with most of the time having to trouble shoot the connection.
Troubleshooting gives me different suggestions which are as follows
a) DHCP not enabled over wireless networks....Trying to repair the same does not work
b) Your computer seems to have been configured properly.
c) Troubleshooting cannot solve the problem
