Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT320N - Slow Transfer Through Range Extender

Aug 26, 2011

I have 8mbs down/1 mbs up service through a cable modem (WOW).  We've been using a WRT320N wireless router with great success.  I haven't checked true transfer rates, but when I do a speed test (url...), I pretty consistently get the speeds we are paying for.  There's a room I wanted to use as an office but the signal didn't reach there.  I just set up a WRE54G range expander.  It is talking to the router and my compter.  I have internet access but the speeds are considerably slower (<1mbs down/<0.4 mbs up) than what I get on the other computer that's talking directly to the router.  I've looked for specs on data rates on the WRE54G and can't find them, but I can't image they're that slow.  Can this be because I'm using a G expander with an N router?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - Incredibly Slow Transfer Speeds?

Oct 18, 2011

Using 1.0.03.

I am seeing something pretty bizarre: when trying to copy files between two computers (both Windows 7 SP1 64bit), both physically plugged into the back of the E4200, I see extremely slow transfer speeds: 1.0-1.1 MB/sec.  Both computers are fast (i7-2600K, both using SSDs) and both have gigabit ports (and the 4200's web UI shows both ports in question as operating in gigabit mode).

This is so slow as to be sort of funny.  Each of these computers see speeds well in excess of that when transferring between the computer and outside internet sites...so it's kind of funny that two computers plugged into the same switch in the back of the 4200 see 1 MB/second.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Slow Network Transfer Speeds Over N

Jul 11, 2011

I'm having very slow file transfer speeds between the 2 computers on my network. One is a gigabit pc wired (cat6) to the e3000. The other is a wireless N laptop. Both computers running Win7. Speeds are like 1.5 - 2 MB/s. when I connect the laptop to the router with a cable (cat6) I get proper high speed. Trying to figure out if it's a problem with the router or windows or what. Speedtest.net says I'm getting 16 MB/s DL wirelessly to my laptop. Shouldn't wireless N be capable of higher speeds than 1.5 MB/s?? Tests are done approx 10 feet from the router.

DIR-655 Slow Transfer Speeds

Ive been doing everything I can to try to enhance transfer speeds between my home server and desktop pc. [code]

Just drag and drop copying on my network, a 7gb file started at 20mbps and immediately dropped to ~11mbps where it stays.I took the time to run cat 6, bought a decent router, and (2) intel NICs, I feel like I should be getting much better transfer speeds than this.

AR938x Slow Network Transfer Speeds

Apr 12, 2013

2-Desktop PCs

2-Qualcomm Atheros AR938x wireless cards, both connected on 5Ghz network at 450 Mbps.Router-E4200, latest firmware, the only 5Ghz network in the area

One PC has a drive bender drive pool on it that I'm trying to read/write from. Testing the pool w/ crystal disk mark on the local pc shows fast speeds (650 MB/s read, 67 MB/s write), so I drive bottlenecks aren't the issue.

Connecting at 450 Mbps i would expect to see something like at least 200 Mbps actual speeds, or is this off? Using LAN Speed test I'm getting 41 write and 52 read. Not great

Linksys Wireless Router :: Slow Wireless Transfer Speeds / Wrt160n V3

Jul 21, 2011

I have a home network with a media center.  I have the hauppauge 1212 HD pvr so that I can record video in HD to my hard drive.  I want to stream this content to the differnet PCs on my home network.  Every TV in my home I have hooked an HTPC to it.  I use them to play dvd's.  Stream netflixs etc. My problem is that I am getting a terrible transer rate wirelessly.  600 -750 kbps.  (tested by transfering large files from pc to pc)  All computers have 300Mbps wireless n cards.  all are recieving max signals.  There are either 3 or 4 pc's connected at a time depending on whether my laptop is connected or not.  Obviously this is way to slow to stream video. Made sure my network name is unique.  changed to wireless channel 1 I do think I have WEP 64bit encription could this be an issue?

R6300 Slow Transfer Speeds To Home Server From HTPC

Oct 4, 2012

[code] Wireless transfer from HTPC to Windows Home Server peak at 8-9 MB/sec. Note that my WHS and my Winn7 Gaming rig are both on the same physical switch, but the same exact wireless file transfer from my HTPC to Windows 7 gaming rig hits consistent 35-40 MB/sec, 4x faster and which is what I expect. Wired transfer of same 4GB test file directly from gaming rig to WHS tops over 100MB/sec so it is not a problem with the WHS writing to disk or wiring. So the question is, what could possibly be bottle-necking my upload from HTPC only to the Home Server? I have tested a Netgear R6300 with the same results as the Asus router.

Painfully Slow Transfer Speeds On Synology DiskStation DS412+ NAS?

Mar 23, 2013

I've just bought a Synology DiskStation DS412+ and put 2 x 3TB Western Digital Red drives in it, set up in RAID 0. It's currently plugged in to my gigabit Netgear switch.I created a user with full permissions on the NAS, created a share, mapped a drive on my Windows 7 PC (also gigabit ethernet) and tried copying some files, but I'm getting painfully slow transfer speeds (< 40KB/s - yes, kilobytes, it's not a typo!

Does anyone have any ideas why it'd be so slow? There's loads of reports online of people getting > 80MB/s from this NAS.

I've copied files from this PC to my MacBook Pro in the past and got decent enough speeds so it shouldn't be an issue with the NIC on this PC, or (hopefully) the Netgear switch it's going through.

Cisco :: Extremely Slow Data Transfer Speeds On 1130AG

May 16, 2013

I've recently upgraded the configuration on one of our 1130 series standalone access points.  I've implemented RADIUS authentication, WPA2 encryption etc. in an effort to make our network more secure.  While this part seems to be working as planned, our data transfer speeds have taken a major hit.  On our test AP, with only one laptop connected, the laptop will report a connection at 54 Mbits.  When using any speed test service the speed reported is approximately 15 Mbits.  We have 100 Mbit internet, and desktops connected to ethernet show much higher speeds. When transferring files via our own LAN, data transfer rates average approximately 2 Mbytes/second.  I've tested this on 3 separate laptops, some relatively new, and it seems they all get the same speeds.

Long story short, our wireless seems to be operating under a third of its reported speed.

Belkin F7D4301 - Router Has Slow Wireless Speeds But Fast Ethernet Speeds

May 19, 2013

My Belkin F7D4301 Router has the fastest wireless speed of maybe 2MBps but wired with a cat5e cable to my asus laptop of almost 7MBps. I have a one smart TV, one blue ray, one roku, and a nexus 7 using the 2.4 channel.

My Wireless 2.4 settings are channel 11, Extension channel 7, Wireless mode N (have tried with just g and b, g, and n modes), Bandwidth 20/40, Protected mode on, QOS off.

I've talked to Belkin tech support, they are the ones who had me set up my 2.4 channel this way but my wireless speeds stay just under 2MBps, they just want to keep sending me the same model Router because they think each of the new ones they send me is defective.

Am I doing something wrong or is 2MBps the best wireless speed I'm going to get?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Poor Wireless To Wired Transfer Speeds?

Oct 26, 2012

I have tried 2 DIR-655 routers now, revision B1, firmware versions 2.04, 2.07, 2.08beta and a number of laptops and wireless mini pci-e nics and I simply CAN'T get faster than about 10 megabytes/sec transfer speed from a wireless laptop to a wired gigabit desktop.

Is this just simply a limitation of these routers?  Can they simply not transfer data at decent speeds?  I've seen real world transfer speeds near 12 megabytes/sec on a DIR-615 and I assumed the limiting factor there was the 100megabit wired connection.

I've spoken to a dozen different D-Link phone support workers

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT320N WAN Connection Becomes Slow?

May 20, 2009

I have a WRT320N router. It is hooked to a Comcast cable modem (Motorola SB5101). After using it for a few days, my Internet connection becomes very slow and I have to reset the router. Generally I get download speeds of 10+ Mbps, but then it slows to about 1 Mbps or less. One time I was only getting 300 Kbps.I'm using a wired connection when this happens, so wireless is not the issue. Also, there is no firmware update available for my router; 1.0.01 was already on it. The only settings that I've changed besides the password are related to the wireless. As soon as I unplug the router and plug it back in, it's fine again for a few days. At first I thought it might be my cable Internet connection, but because I'm not having to reset the cable modem?

I am using the provided network cable that came with the WAG320N, but i have also tested with other cat 5 cables. The file transfers are taking place using cable attached devices only.

Slow Speeds On PC Which Shares Wireless Network?

I have tried a system restore, scanning for viruses, updating/disabling antivirus and firewalls, connecting directly to LAN, changed wireless interface speed from g to b to mixed, changed wireless channels from 1-6-11, nothing seems to work.

I have a Thomson TG782T router with a D-Link wireless card (which is rather old).

Slow Wireless Network Connection Speeds?

Aug 13, 2011

I recently moved to a new apartment to be closer to work and this apartment complex is only covered by what I was told is a wireless hotspot.Basically, a wireless devices connects to the SSID, logs in, and then you're set with the most pitiful internet still available. Now I was told I could pay $70 bucks to have these people (Onlyinternet.net by the way) install a device that would allow me to connect my desktop to the internet service. Wasn't thrilled about that. Its $40 a month, for a 1Mb connection so that wasn't going to happen anyway.Looked up internet connection sharing and had setup my laptop to use it with my desktop. My connection on my laptop has always had a very low signal; between one and two bars no matter where I'm at in my apartment. If I go outside it'll get about 4 bars but that is about it. The actual speeds listed on the Wireless Network Connection Status go from 1Mbps, 2Mpbs, 5.5Mpbs and 11Mbps. Never higher.Today I went and picked up a NETGEAR N300 wireless router. My hope was that the router might be able to pick up the wireless connection and I could just connect through my router instead of having to use my laptop. Apparently, this is not the case.I have to use my laptop act as a modem and have it plugged into the Internet port of the router and then my desktop connected to one of the LAN ports on the router. Is this setup better then using the internet connection sharing deal? Is there any other way of increasing my signal strength and network speeds?

I've tried removing the drive from 'shared' and then adding it again, reinstalling my ethernet driver, swapping ethernet ports on the back of my router, and resetting it altogether. D-Link DIR-655 :: Wireless Internet Download Speeds Slow?

Mar 1, 2010

I'm currently subscribed to Comcast's 22/5 Internet service. Internet upload speeds on both wired and wireless are about the same at ~ 5 Mbps. Wireless download speeds range from .5-3 Mbps. Wired or Wireless, I receive LAN speeds of ~32 Mbps or 3-4 MB/s. The noticeable issue is wireless internet download speed. I have tried every configuration possible with my router, updated drivers on devices, firmware and tested everything I could on all PCs, and even used the XBOX 360's media extender network tuning feature as a tool in my investigation to find this bottleneck. All reports point to internet download speed. Again, general LAN and internet upload speeds relatively meet expectations. The wired download speeds are slow at times, but consistently meet expectations.

My current Setup:

Wifi
A4 1.33NA
WPA2 Only - Personal
802.11 Mode : 802.11n only
Channel Width : 40MHz
Channel : 1
