When I plug straight into the modem the internet works fine..., but when I try to connect wireless under network and sharing center it shows unidentified network. Now I cannot access the internet via my router and Windows cannot repair the problem as it cannot complete "Renewing your IP address". I have followed advice on this site and implemented CMD re Winsock OK, but the second step "netsh int ip reset reset.log" is not accepted; it simply returns the cursor.

I have no problem connecting to my home network, or that of any of my friends networks.However when I go to the holiday park where I have a caravan and go into the owners lounge to use the free wifi windows can't find it. (I used to be able to connect with no problem, it's just that for some reason windows can't find it now). Everybody else in the lounge can connect with no problem.If I use my phone's usb tethering feature I can connect to the wifi network. If go into another part of the complex I can connect to the wifi there with no problem.On the park they operate two networks, one in the owners lounge, the one I can no longer connect to, and one in the cafe/bar which I can connect to.I can only assume that some 'setting' on my laptop has changed and is stopping windows finding the network, but I have no idea what it could be.

Due to lack of space and generally needing to be refreshed, I used my recovery CDs to "factory reset" my laptop to the way it was when I bought it. After it finished I attempted to use the Internet wirelessly and it would only connect locally. I chose to repair the signal in the "network and sharing" window and it said it could not communicate with the DNS server. I plugged in the Ethernet cable and it jumped right online. I used windows update and after 4 hours of updates and restarts, I tried wireless again it only connects locally. Back to ethernet I logged onto HP website and tried to scan my computer for driver updates with there tool but the site was down. I checked my adapter and it is an atheros 5007 but when I searched for atheros or atheros drivers I couldn't find anything that seemed legit. They don't have a website? I read forums and found posts of people shutting off a DHCP broadcast flag with good luck. I found a few �having problems with the same adapter as myself but none of this started until I restored it this time. ( I have restored it 2 times before with no problem). My next step was shutting off all the security. It worked and everything was great until i turned the security back on. It reverts back to local only. I tried wpa, wpa2 and no luck. The only thing I can think of is that my drivers are old, I checked the version of windows and it still is on sp1, why hasn't it updated to sp2 yet?

I should also mention that my Xbox 360 won't connect either, but both of my friend's laptops as well as my phone do connect to our internet. This laptop used to connect on the older router using wep but with E1500 wpa-2 it cannot connect. I am unable to ping the router from the laptop wireless. Connecting ethernet cable it works fine and logging in as a guest works does too.

New computer (Win7 desktop), works OK. Router is Linksys 310N. But, there are constant problems with "invalid URL" message. I was told a while back to hard code my DNS settings into the connection. That seemed OK, but last night, again got "invalid URL message" so I went back to getting DNS servers automatically. (what prompted the change was that I couldn't get to washingtpost.com). So, today I'm on NYTimes.com and everything is OK but when I try to access two pages (Op-Ed) I get "file not found". (IT was originally two pages and now it's many more.) I've had people look at the output from IPCONFIG /ALL; but any pointers, tips, etc. This seems limited to my desktop computer; the laptop on the same router is OK (also Win7).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a Acer Laptop from my buddy that had windows 7 and when he had it his harddrive had crashed so he put in a older harddrive in it and installed windows Vista. Doing that caused the ethernet and network adapter to not work at all (says it need drivers) and I can't access the internet at all on it. I don't know if I can grab the drivers somewhere else or if I have to just count my losses.

I've tried to disconnect it and re-connect it but it doesn't work. It stays with the local access only.The only way I get it back is to disconnect it then reboot it. After I was done he asked me if I would network his printer to his 3 pc's throughout the house. 2 of the computers worked fine with the printer, but the one laptop (HP dv9000 running Vista 64 bit) wouldn't print unless I restarted it. I could click print, the job would go to the print queue, but that's it. It'd just stay there until I shut down the laptop and restarted it. Soon as vista would boot back up the job would automatically go on through and start printing.

Now, at first, this only happened starting at around 3 am central time and ending at about 6 am when I could browse the internet properly. As the days went forth, however, it began happening earlier at around 12 am. What would happen is this: would be on the internet browsing sites and whatnot. All of a sudden (As I'm loading a new page) I would get the "Address not found" error as if I'm not connected to the internet. I could try to reload any other page on my session,but sometimes it would halfway load (ei:not loading pictures, ect.) and other times I would get Address not found. This would go for about a 4 hour time period. After that, everything would be back to normal and I could go back on my session.
Now, I'm on my laptop via a router that is in my house. We also have a desktop computer, but I noticed this problem happening on my laptop first. When it first happened, it was only on my laptop. I had internet connection and could browse it endlessly on my desktop. As the days went on, however, my desktop started having the same problem connecting to the internet (I still noticed the problem on my laptop first and then I would go see if the desktop had it too).When this first happened, I was thinking my laptop wasn't connecting to my router. Instinctively, I reset the router to no avail. I also opened up IE (I don't use it much because it's just too slow) and tried to diagnose the problem using that. When I did this, it was giving me DNS as the problem of me not connecting to the internet. I am not a network admin so I don't know that much about DNS. I also used IE to diagnose the problem on the following days, but after the first time it only gave me a "You aren't connected to the internet" solution. Since then, I've been running a barrage of anti virus, rootkit, ect. just because I can and I haven't done it in a long time. I didn't find anything unusual in all the reports so I'm still not sure what the problem is.
I have one computer that is unable to connect to the internet. This is a wired desktop running Vista. I have several wireless devices around the house that can connect fine, so I know that it is not the internet. I have tried a system restore, I have reset the router and rebooted the computer. The network diagnostics says there might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer....I have tried all of those solutions as well. All attempts to access the network fail (ping, local shares, http) and other machines cannot access this one. Network & Sharing Center shows a fault between the Home Network and the internet, however I am unable to Ping or be Pinged by other computers on the Home Network. Other machines on the network are working fine both wired and wireless, although the machine in question is wired only (no wireless NIC).
The following items have been attempted, some many times, in no particular order, all producing no change in symptoms (not a complete list).

Cold boot.
Last known good.
Safe mode with networking support.

I'm using a Dell Vostro, running Win Vista with all updates. I have Trend Micro Titanium and Comodo Firewall. I primarily use Firefox (completely updated) but also have IE 9. Until a few days ago I regularly connected to various public WIFIs, by: connecting to the WIFI network, opening Firefox which would then automatically take me the network's (Panera for example) user agreement page, clicking on "I accept" or "I agree" then gaining access to the internet. Two days ago I was at a local establishment where I have connected before. I connected to their network and opened Firefox as usual. Instead of connecting to their user agreement page as usual, Firefox tried to connect to my homepage (Washington Post) and failed.
The network icon in the sys tray showed I was connected to the local network but with local access only. This has now happened three times in three different public locations over the past 2 days. Each time I've successfully connect to the network but when opening Firefox or IE9 I am not directed to the user agreement page and therefore am not gaining access to the internet.Normally in the past once I had connected to the local network and opened my browser Comodo would open a warning window asking me if I wished to continue. This also is no longer happening as Comodo is not detecting me being connected to the internet, I'm sure.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install the WLAN driver for Dell Dimension 9200C desktop computer running Windows XP but I keep getting the error that no compatible hardware was found. I've gone to the appropriate Dell Drivers site for the computer's model and I'm 99% sure I downloaded the correct software for WLAN: Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN MiniCard. After going to Device Manager and looking under "Network Adapters", there is no Dell WLAN card at all (direct ethernet connection for internet works). Is it possible that the computer cannot find the WLAN network card, which prevents me from installing the driver software, even though it exists? If so, what can I do? If not, I guess I'll go buy a USB network adapter.
