having a problem with my Linksys wireless adapter: the light will flash a few times when I plug it in, then it will turn off. It won't let me connect to the internet or my printer. It's not the port: it is recognized when I put it in any other port, but it still won't connect. I think it's a virus, but my antivirus software isn't showing anything when I run a full scan (I use Malwarebytes Free). I'm gonna put AVG on a flash drive from another computer and try to use that later today, but right now I've been thinking that I might have to back everything up and reinstall windows.
-Windows Vista- Home Premium
-Linksys Wireless USB Network Adapter (I think it's WUSB600N, not sure though)
-Malwarebytes Free Anti-virus
-Netgear Router (I think it's WGR614L)

I have an HP dv7 6 series laptop with a wifi card that only supports 2.4 mhz. HP says they don't have a card that supports 5 mhz that I can upgrade to. Can I just use a USB 5 mhz adapter to see my dual router. What I mean is can I have both installed on the computer and use one or the other as I choose.

I am living on a houseboat, and the home owner where I moor the boat has provided an unsecured wireless network for my internet usage. I have a USB wireless adapter that is mounted on the roof of the boat giving me great reception. I have successfully been using it so far. The problem is... I have a laptop as well and to date I've been unplugging the roof mounted USB adapter from the tower and moving it to the laptop when accessing the internet from the laptop.I'm confident there is some way to run the roof mounted adapter to one machine and allow both machines to use this internet connection, but so far I haven't been able to make it work. When I try to turn on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) I get an ip error ( "There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network"). I can't make any adjustments to the router, as I don't have access to it.So I have this hardware to work with:A laptop with wireless built in a tower with 2 available wireless adaptors (including the roof mount)A wireless router (but no wired internet connection).

I recently had to rebuild PC. All re-installed and happily working except wireless web access. I've re-installed wireless adaptor (BY Voyager 1055), but router will not issue an IP via DHCP to my PC. Can connect to same router using a laptop (picks up IP using DHCP). Have tried using static IP, connects, then loses connection after a few seconds. Both bits of kit are XP SP2, could it be a driver issue? My local telecom provider is unable to assist saying "it's something to do with your PC".

I just bought a wireless adapter for my PC, linkseys ae1000. It's been approximately a week, and the computer has been on most of the time...roughly 8-12 hours of a day, not in use the whole time, however. Then today when I booted up my computer, the wireless adapter didn't turn on! It's like a little USB thingy...and when i took it out, it was extremely hot, even though it wasn't doing anything! I tried multiple USB slots as well, to no avail...What basically happens is I put in the CD-rom installation disk, then when it prompts me, I plug in the adapter...and then it takes me to the connect to network screen, at this point the adapter has it's little wireless light blinking, then I try to connect to network, the light stops blinking and turns off, and it just tries connecting to the network for an eternity.

I have Gateway that runs Windows Vista. It has recently stopped connecting to my wireless router because it says the Wireless Capabilities are turned off. I have the switched turned on, I have gone into the Control Panel and Networks and made sure that everything is enabled properly. It won't let me connect at all, and my sister's laptop will connect to the router so I know that isn't the issue. Why it won't recognize my wireless adapter being on?

I just purchased a Medialink MWN-150N Wireless N USB Adapter. I have never had wireless on this computer and I have always been hard lined directly to the router without any problems of connecting to the net. I installed the software, am able to connect to my network with full bars, but have limited/no activity. I unplugged everything and hooked up the modem 1st, router 2nd, and turned on the computer last, but no luck.

My network consists of a main computer connected to Internet via cable and a modem. I also have an xbox 360 connected via the modem's wireless. I am using a netgear wireless adapter for the xbox, I also have another pc in the same room as the xbox, keep in mind the main pc and these others are multiple rooms apart. Now my issue is that the other pc is not recognizing the wireless adapter, and I know the adapter works because I've been using it on the xbox and it works perfectly. Now I went into connect to and it's not showing anything wireless or netgear associated. Also forgot to mention I am using the same adapter for both just unplugging from one and connecting to other.

My IBM T41 has an installed adapter. It says that it connects to the wireless networks I set up for it, but when I open web browsers, it doesn't really connect to the internet. I know the icon in the system tray for it is a computer monitor. The screen of the little monitor should blink if it works, and mine does not blink. I tried putting in 2 new adapters, but those failed to work.
3 years ago I had this same problem. I called my internet provider and someone was able to control my laptop from his computer. He opened some sort of settings screen that I had never seen before. I didn't even see how he got to it because he did it all so fast. After he changed a setting, my laptop was able to connect to the wireless internet. Since then, my internet provider has begun charging for this service so I've opted out of doing it again. I wonder if the man was using settings on the router website. If he was, what settings did he change that allowed my computer to connect?

I've recently upgraded my computer from a XP machine to a Win7 machine. Back in the old days of my XP machine I would almost only use it to play a Battlefield 2 mod called Project Reality. When I first purchased the wirelsess USB adapter I had a problem with the game losing connection for a little while every 30 second, which of course was extremely annoying. I later solved this problem by disabling Windows Zero Wireless.
But if I turn off WLAN autoconfig in Windows 7 I'm not able to connect to my WIFI at all. It turns off my third party wireless software as well?By the way my USB adapater is a D-link 160 and my router is a D-link 615 (Maybe... I'm at work so it's just out of my memory)

I have recently started (slowly) upgrading my computer. I have an older desktop, and I'm wanting to eliminate the ethernet cable so I can put my desktop anywhere in the house and not have to worry about running cables. I really can't afford the faster internet at this time and I'm having issues with streaming movies. So I really don't want to lose what speed my internet does have by switching to wireless. The USB adapter is less expensive by a few bucks, but I'm worries it might just stop working randomly, or be slow in comparison to a PCI card. Another issue is with my old motherboard, I only have 2 pci slots and one pci-e slot, I've ordered a new sound card, just installed a video card. So I only have one slot left, and I was wanting to put a TV tuner in that spot.
Should I get the USB (300mbps is what I'm looking at) or should I just get over wanting to put a tv tuner in and just get the card and install it? Just wanting some general advice on what more advanced users think of it. I've seen pci expansions online but that was just way out of my price range, and do not want to have to buy a new motherboard.

Had possible malware problems. Wife's email hijacked. Deleted her account. Purchased Emisoft Anti Malware Guard, even though I was already supposedly protected through Comcast with Norton and ran Spybot for a long time. Followed the recommendations of the Emisoft Anti-Malware as it ran. I think I may have shut down some things that were probably safe as I did this. At any rate I can no longer see my Wireless Adaptor, so I can't connect to the wireless network that is running (2 laptops connected to it and it is working fine). I restarted WLAN Auto Config Service. I read in this forum and in some others things to try: Shut off (Unplugged, Modem, Router), PC and restarted each one in that order after waiting a good minute.
Ran some things from CMD prompt to release and restore ipconfig. On one of these as the system listed things I saw that my wireless adaptor showed, but a line about tunnel adaptor showed that the media was disconnected. This acts to me just like what happens on a laptop when the wireless card gets shut off. The malware thing that lead into this really freaked me out. When I run Windows Live Mail I get a box with a heading 'Mail" that pops up "We have noticed some unusual activity in your account. Your action is needed to make sure no one is using your account. To continue click OK." I started down that route a few weeks ago and bailed out when I saw what they were asking. I wonder if the malware hosed some things or if I did in running the anti malware?

I've just purchased a wireless N adapter and installed it in my PCI bus on my computer. It is picking up the signal from my router (same room one floor down) but only just. I have a laptop with wireless G, and a samsung galaxy s2 (N wireless) that are getting strong signal in the same place. I called the manufacturer and they have said that I should upgrade my router to N wireless but I don't know if that is the problem as both my other devices, G & N are working fine with the router. Should I fork out for a new router in the hope that it will make my adapter do it's job or since it is doing so poorly at the moment compared to my other devices should I just return it?

I just built my first pc and realized I can't connect it to the internet. An ethernet cable is out of the question since our router is on the clear opposite side of the house. So now I'm looking at some wireless adapters. I have decided that, for simplicity's sake and portability, I want to go with a usb adapter.

My desktop has always been connected via ethernet cable but I'm about to move to the Middle of Nowhere, Alberta and will be mooching off a school's wireless internet that's about 400m away apparently. Not sure if that's door-to-door or not...so it may not actually be 400m away. Anyway, the principal said other people get the internet from the same distance but it's "inconsistent".
