I can connect wireless perfectly via my laptop and my iphone as well as on the desktop via an Ethernet cable.

I have just re-installed Windows Vista on my Toshiba Laptop and it connects fine to my virgin media router using a LAN line but when I try connecting wirelessly, no networks are found. I've tried up-dating the driver files form the C: drive(Window) and also from the net but with no joy.. Network adapter is a Realtek RTL 8187B. I hate admitting defeat as Im sure the solution is probably something simple..

But after not using it for a year, I plugged it into my PC, installed the updated drivers, and nothing happened.The Realtek 11n USB wireless lan utility program (came with the driver) does not seem to find the wireless network, something that my laptop picks up easily. View 1 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my father's laptop, upgrading the OS from Vista to Windows 7 but now the wireless network adapter isn't working. Basically, the laptop doesn't know that it has wireless. In device manager there is an exclamation mark against the "Atheros AR5007UG Wireless Network Adapter" entry. I've tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it, restarting the computer, updating the driver etc but it always fails to install the driver correctly. I don't know for sure the model of the network adapter, (windows tells me it's atheros but I'm not convinced seeing as the driver always fails to install) so I can't go to the manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers. I opened up the laptop but couldn't see any brand names on the network card. I don't have the cd's with the drivers on them.

My PC, a Dell studio 540, worked perfectly well on the BT Homehub2 in our last house but now I have very infrequent access.The wireless adapter connects to the network but not to the internet. I get a 'Identifying public network' message with (no customise option). When I use LAN to connect 'unidentified network'.it will connect via wireless, but it seems random and then if the machine sleeps or is restarted it's back to square one.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm using a dlink network adapter(6 months old) on my pc, have always gotten an excellent signal. Main pc in house is hooked up to dir-615 router & works fine. I had some bsod's recently & decided to reformat xp. I did a reformat back in july because of a bsod from avast antivirus & had no problems till now. An xp repair didn't work this time. Loaded the driver for the adapter, got an excellent signal, but couldn't access the net. The signal shows 4 green bars for about 20 seconds, then all white bars for a few seconds, then back to green. It keeps dropping the signal over & over. The network card shows its working properly. I did an ipconfig, and it says "media state disconnected" & shows no addresses. It has to be some setting somewhere in the pc thats not right & not the adapter thats the problem.The reformat went fine, loaded all the drivers in the right order. I only have IE for a browser which i need to access the net with to load firefox & all other programs plus service pack 3 & other xp updates back on with. When i loaded the driver for the dlink adapter, i used a different workgroup/name than the network name originally used to set up the dlink router if that means

Unfortunately, the other desktop I really need to make wireless is having difficulties. The computer never shows the message that a new device is discovered/installed. The adapter shows up under hardware devices and functioning properly but this is not the case. I installed the driver from the included CD but when I use Windows to troubleshoot, it says that the driver and adapter aren't working. When trying to set up a new network, I get a grayed-out wireless icon in the system tray and can't proceed. I disabled the firewall and antivirus so I could start over, uninstalling the driver, restarting and installing again.

And of course, the Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adaptor.It seems that no matter what I do wireless capability cannot be enabled. I tried turning the wireless capability button on and off but to no avail. Then I pressed FN+F2 and it didn't fix it. In both those situations a box which displays the status of the wireless LAN connection comes up, however, it reads "OFF" regardless of me performing the above two "fixes." According to my computer the card is enabled and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device driver but nothing changed.
My laptop's wireless network adapter is not working Eventually I managed to re install the driver but that did absolutely nothing and now it won't connect unless I have the ethernet cable plugged in. It also no longer will tell me there is a problem with the adapter, it just refuses to bring up any wireless connections. My laptop is a Dell N5110.
