View 2 RepliesYesterday I bought a linksys AE2500 usb network adapter. So I set it up on the computer downstairs from the router, roughly 30 ft distance. There is a desktop running a linksys pci card directly next to it. So I fire the computer up it see's the network but it won't connect to it. Then I take the computer up to the room the router is in and it connects. The range on the adapter says 300 ft and I do realize that there are walls and other obstructions that cause that number to fall but I find it hard to believe that the adapter is out of range but I can't think of anything else to explain it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased the Linksys E3000 router. My old network set up had been 100% wired, but with the new router we have converted to wireless on some of the internet capable devices. I have 2 pc's side by side in separate room from the router that we purchased wireless adapters for, the Linksys AE1000. One pc set up fine and accesses the internet with no issues. The second pc cannot connect the network. It sees the network with a good signal strength, but it times out when trying to connect.I called tech support and have been through a variety of things with them to no avail so far. Both of these pc's are running Windows XP SP3. On the one that won't connect, have already confirmed in device manager that the adapter is correctly installed. I uninstalled it, rebooted, reinstalled it anyway with no luck. With tech support already tried disabling the 5ghz band and changing the channel on the 2.4ghz band to 11.I have confirmed several times I am entering the password in correctly, and I did pay attention to case sensitivity. When I run ipconfig/all, it says under Media State: Media Disconnected.

So is it possible to use WAG120N as a wireless client for my existing wifi network and connect tv box through cable with WAG120N? In that case WAG120N would be some kind of wireless network adapter for my TV box.
can this unit be used simply as a network adapter to connect to a wireless signal? Or does it have to have a cable modem?.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just purchased 2 AE3000 adapters to update my wireless network and cannot get either of them to connect to my wireless network through either of two computers I tried. It hangs for a while looking for address and then I get the 'limited or no connection' note. But yet when I plug in my old AE1000 adapter into either computer I get connected right away. I've looked under the device manager and it shows up there, the LED lights come on and I see my wireless network show up on available networks. I am using the windows wireless manager in lieu of the Linksys one and as such I don't think any specific drivers are being used. I bought two updated adapters to start with is to keep current and NOT have problems.

WRT350N Router
I recently purchased a Linksys AE3000 Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Adapter as an upgrade to my Dell Desktop Computer and to compliment the Linksys EA4500 Router that I recently installed. Generally it seems to work well and the 2.4 GHz network status typically shows speed to be 450 Mbps. However, I’ve discovered if the computer goes to sleep based on my power plan, when it comes out of sleep the “Available Networks” will show the network I’m connected to (2.4 GHz network) and a false network identified as “Other Network” with a Red “X” where signal strength would normally be. When I mouse over it; it shows Network Name: Other Network; Signal Strength: Excellent; Security Type: Unsecured; Radio Type: Unknown; and SSID: Other Network.
Initially I thought this was an anomaly caused by having both bands of the Router (2.4 and 5.0 GHz) set to the same SSID, so I changed the 5.0 GHz band to a different SSID and set my Media Players to access the new SSID. However, now when the computer comes out of sleep mode, Available Networks will initially only show the Router’s 2.4 GHz SSID and the phantom “Other Network”. It takes a while before the Router’s 5.0 GHz SSID shows up. We live in the country, so there are no other networks close to us, just my home network. It never shows the “Other Network” when I start or restart the computer and if I disable the adapter and then enable it, the phantom network goes away until the computer goes into and out of sleep mode again. Also, I uninstalled and then reinstalled the Driver and then reinstalled the Adapter using the Cisco Connect Software and the problem still exists. Finally, I disabled the Router’s 5.0 GHz network and the phantom network no longer appears under any conditions. The Dell (Atheros Communications) Wireless Card in the computer doesn’t have this issue under any scenario. On both the AE3000 and Atheros Adapters the 2.4 GHz network shows a signal strength of Excellent (5 out of 5 bars) and the 5 GHz network shows Good (3 out of 5 bars).
How to correct this issue? With the issues I’m having with the EA4500 and the AE3000; they are both probably going back to Amazon.
How do I setup a WRT160N as a wireless adapter to connect a wireless printer to my network? I do not use the wrt 160 as a router because I have an AT&T router for u-verse connection. Also, I physically cannot wire the printer to the main router (opposite corners of the house).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a new hawking N range extender to run on our network. My parents just got a new Internet Ready TV for the holidays but the wireless doesn't reach to their room. I ordered this range extender to boost the signal from our Linksys E2000 router. I was having a hell of a time setting it up last night. I was hoping that I could have them both use the same SSID so they would basically be the same network with all of our laptops/iPhones/iPads seamlessly switching to the strongest signal. (Router is in basement, extender is on the main floor). Unfortunately just setting them up with the same name and WPA key doesn't work as easy as I thought it would. So as of right now I have the extender set up as a different network name and it is working great. (router SSID = name, extender SSID = nameE) I just want to know if there is a way to make it work with the same SSID. I've been trying to research and have come across forums saying they need to have ALL the info the same (SSID, PassKey, Channel) and others saying the channels need to be different.
Right now I left the extender setup with the default IP and made it static so I could access the web interface again because the CD installation that came with it is absolute garbage (you can't change the broadcast channel with it). I can get into the settings easily by using 192.168.1.240 but I am weary to try to change things around again because I already have set up and reset this guy at least 5 times.
I'm trying to extend the range of my wireless network from my house to my workshop, which is about 600 feet away. There are no trees or other objects in between the two buildings. how I could boost my wireless signal to reach that far?
