Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt160n - Expand Network Range In House?

Sep 27, 2011

I have a wrt160n that I would like to use to expand the range of my wireless network. I have tried a few solutions, but to no avail. I am thinking I have just not found the proper steps.I am behind a dsl wireless router that Telus has provided me. The values of that router setup are as follows:SSID: TELUS4108WPA/WPA2-AESDefault gateway: 75.156.190.1DNS address: 199.185.220.254Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N Bridge To Expand Signals

Sep 29, 2009

I just installed a Linksys WRT160N router. The signal started of good about 50 to 70 feet from the routers location. Now the signal is registering as low to good, about 54Mbps. I was wondering what options I might have to install a wireless bridge for expansion of the signal. I have configured an encrypted network using WPA2. I am wondering what the technical difficulty would be to install and configure it. I setup the WRT160N myself if that means anything.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Connecting A WET610N To WRT54GS To Expand Range

Aug 4, 2011

I have a wireless network in a 2 storey house. The internet access and 1 WRT54GS router is on the 1st floor (using frequency channel 11). The wireless single doesn't do very well on the second floor unless there is a device with a strong antenna.  I recently purchased a WET610N Bridge and I have an extra WRT54GS (using frequency channel 1).

I would like to be able to add wireless to the 2nd floor by attaching the extra router  to the bridge which would wirelessly connect to the router with the internet.

I've done a speed test with speakeasy.net and get fine through the hard wire desktop (25.16/3.77) but when I do it on my wireless laptop I get 2.03down / 3.66up.  The speeds were basically the same right next to router as it was 40' away.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160n Port Range Forwarding For Dvr Equipment

Oct 3, 2012

I have a WRT160n that I am trying to forward some ports on for some DVR equipment. When I use the single port forwarding and enter each port separately it works fine. But I have 2 DVR's and they use a bunch of ports each so I want to use the port range forwarding because there are not enough spots in the single port forwarding section. The ports I am trying to forward are 8000-8004 for one IP address and 8005-8009 for a second IP address. I have entered it into the port range forwarding section but I can not connect from outside my network. As I said if I enter them in the single port section seperately as 8000,8001,8002,8003,8004 then I can connect fine outside my network.

Connecting Netgear To Linksys Router To Expand Network?

Jul 6, 2011

I have a netgear CVG834G main router, were my desktop is plugged on to.I pulled a new cable trough the house and garage to have internet access on the other side (cable length is about 80 meters). After the 80meters of cable I placed a Linksys WRT54GS v5.1 router. The problem is that I can connect to the Linksys, but the Linksys cant connect to the netgear. On the Linksys the internet LED is blinking very slowly (what does this mean?). So first I thought that the cable was broken or too long. I tested the cable => not broken. I connected the Linksys with the netgear trough a shorter cable and then connected my laptop via the long cable (80meter) and this works perfectly. Is the maximum distends a netgear can take less than 80 meters? (thought is was 100meter ).

How To Expand Comcast SMCD3GNV Range

May 7, 2012

I'm currently using my Acer Aspire x1700 desktop computer running Windows 8. It's connected to my router via Ethernet and gets about 25mb/sec. The problem is, my router can only broadcast the signal to my two front rooms and all of the rooms of the level it's on (Living Room, Sun Room, & Kitchen). All of my devices get full signal in these rooms. The holidays are coming up, so people are going to start bringing cellphones, tablets, gaming devices, etc into my house. My room is about 24 ft away from it (My 2nd floor is 8.5 ft above the 1st). In my room, my laptop, a Dell Inspriron running Windows 7, got about 13mb/sec. But as soon as I walk into the next room, which is about 8 ft away, the signal becomes very spotty on my iPod touch/iPad. My laptop can pick up about 2 bars, and so can my Grandma's HP. If I move another 2 feet into my mom's room my iPod Touch/iPad gets one bar, my laptop still gets two, but it's very slow and spotty. My iPod touch/iPad gets a kind of weak signal in my room.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N Loosing Network Connectivity

This requires a reboot of the router 2-3 times a day. Never experienced any of these problems with a Linksys WRT54G, a unit that this one replaced. Unless I can resolve it, the WRT54G is going back in, and WRT160N is going back.

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WRT54G - Network Signal Very Low Throughout The House?

Feb 4, 2011

I have a Linksys wireless-g broadbrand router ( WRT54G ) in my bedroom along with my cable modem and everything runs fine in my room. But I also have a pretty old computer in another bedroom about maybe 15 or 20 feet away from the current setup. On that computer I have a wireless g adapter that's connect through a usb port and has very low signal strength. I sometimes use that computer and I'm always getting kicked off I'm guessing because the signal cuts out. So, today I plugged in the adapter in my room with my setup and had amazing signal. What can I do to give that other computer a good boost? I know I should update that computer but I'm guessing I also need to somehow boost the signal somehow.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160n - Unable To Connect To Network With New Laptop

Jun 24, 2012

This was for a WRT160n v3.0.02 I looked up several suggestions online and decided to update the firmware to v3.0.03 This seemed to only make it worse as I could no longer connect, and when I turned the router off and back on it would allow me in for about a minute and drop me right away.I started tweaking with the settings, and came across some posts here such as this one, started tweaking with the channel settings and everything. Nothing. If anything I somehow made it worse since now instead of dropping repeatedly it wouldn't connect at all except for about a minute after restarting router, then it would drop completely (I would either get the limited access notification or I simply couldn't connect and windows said to unplug the access point. I recalled I had another Linksys router that I wasn't using in storage, a WRT54G2v 1.0.01 so I set that up, no problems... at first. All other devices picked it up right away, but once again, my new laptop decides it's too good for the freaking network and drops it repeatedly telling me there's a problem with the access point.

So at this point I'm thinking it might NOT be my network, but my wireless card or something, I uninstalled and reinstalled, updated drivers, (I use a Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC) I even came across this article and disabled browser service and NETBios (including all other devices on my network). It brought back the network on my laptop for a bit, only to smugly come crashing down again.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N V3 - Network Crashes When No Devices Are Connected?

Nov 6, 2011

For a while now, my wireless network at home has been very unreliable. I posted on these forums before, asking for assistance to fix crashes that seemed to be random. I was largely unsuccessful, and the problem continued. However, as I continued to experiment with different methods to keep my network up and running, I noticed that as long as I had at least one device connected to the network around-the-clock it never crashed. This was easy enough, as I own an iPod touch and a dock (I would leave it sitting it the dock unlocked all the time). But it's annoying to never be able to leave the house with it, and I'm ready to finally get a solution to the problem once and for all. I would prefer not getting a new router, but if worse comes to worse I will.

To sum it up:
-Works perfectly (when up) at full speed, never crashes unless there are no devices connected to it.
-When it does crash, it is very difficult to 'coax' it back into working again; it's been down for weeks at a time before.
-For some strange reason (and maybe this is a clue), newer game systems such as a Nintendo DSi or PS3 can make it start working again. I, of course, own neither of these.
-I'm using a WRT160N V3, latest firmware as far as i know.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt160n - Original Network SSID Had Been Changed?

Oct 8, 2009

I have a wrt160n router set up at a friends house that i would connect my windows xp laptor to when i would go there.  it always worked fine. i recently got a new laptop with vista 64 bit OS.  i went to my friends today and connected via wireless for the first time.  i expected to get prompted for the security key.  instead it asked for the pin #.  the pin number was something new i noticed when i replaced an older linksys with the new wrt160n so i had it in my notes.  i entered the pin number and connected to the wireless router.  but then my friend laptop could not connect and said it couldnt find the network.  when i viewed the available networks, i noticed that the original network SSID had been changed to my vista laptop's computer name.  i had to physically connect my laptop to the router and reconfigure the settings of the wireless network. then my friend was able to see the available network and automatically connect..
