How To Expand Comcast SMCD3GNV Range

May 7, 2012

I'm currently using my Acer Aspire x1700 desktop computer running Windows 8. It's connected to my router via Ethernet and gets about 25mb/sec. The problem is, my router can only broadcast the signal to my two front rooms and all of the rooms of the level it's on (Living Room, Sun Room, & Kitchen). All of my devices get full signal in these rooms. The holidays are coming up, so people are going to start bringing cellphones, tablets, gaming devices, etc into my house. My room is about 24 ft away from it (My 2nd floor is 8.5 ft above the 1st). In my room, my laptop, a Dell Inspriron running Windows 7, got about 13mb/sec. But as soon as I walk into the next room, which is about 8 ft away, the signal becomes very spotty on my iPod touch/iPad. My laptop can pick up about 2 bars, and so can my Grandma's HP. If I move another 2 feet into my mom's room my iPod Touch/iPad gets one bar, my laptop still gets two, but it's very slow and spotty. My iPod touch/iPad gets a kind of weak signal in my room.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Connecting A WET610N To WRT54GS To Expand Range

Aug 4, 2011

I have a wireless network in a 2 storey house. The internet access and 1 WRT54GS router is on the 1st floor (using frequency channel 11). The wireless single doesn't do very well on the second floor unless there is a device with a strong antenna.  I recently purchased a WET610N Bridge and I have an extra WRT54GS (using frequency channel 1).

I would like to be able to add wireless to the 2nd floor by attaching the extra router  to the bridge which would wirelessly connect to the router with the internet.

SMCD3GNV Modem / Router Intermittently Dropped Connection

Jul 27, 2012

ISP - Comcast Cable Internet Modem model SMCD3GNV wired/wireless combo (2 pcs connected 1 wired 1 wireless)When the connection is online, the speeds are fine- the issue is the 2-3 times a day when the connection drops off. The error that we are getting is "cannot connect with primary dns server" however in our attempts to restore the connection we have: [code] is there some issues in the area that we are not aware of? being that the signal levels are within range what do you think the problem resides in? FYI, both connections, the wired and wireless connections both have connectivity issues equally.

Awhile ago, I just tried to relocate my router upstairs and just drill a hole for a CAT cable to slip through to the modem downstairs from my room(as my room is directly above the router)...3 useless holes later, for whatever reason it is impossible to drill through. What are my other solutions?

Connecting Netgear To Linksys Router To Expand Network?

Jul 6, 2011

I have a netgear CVG834G main router, were my desktop is plugged on to.I pulled a new cable trough the house and garage to have internet access on the other side (cable length is about 80 meters). After the 80meters of cable I placed a Linksys WRT54GS v5.1 router. The problem is that I can connect to the Linksys, but the Linksys cant connect to the netgear. On the Linksys the internet LED is blinking very slowly (what does this mean?). So first I thought that the cable was broken or too long. I tested the cable => not broken. I connected the Linksys with the netgear trough a shorter cable and then connected my laptop via the long cable (80meter) and this works perfectly. Is the maximum distends a netgear can take less than 80 meters? (thought is was 100meter ).

Linksys Wired Router :: Expand IP Addresses Beyond 256 / RV016

Jan 16, 2011

Currently We have an RV016 setup and Setup>Network we have the following settings:

Host Name: pagegateway
Domain Name: mycompany.com
Device IP address: 10.20.181.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

DHCP Server is not enabled on the RV016.  We currently have a Windows 2003 Server that is acting as Exchange Server, Active Diretory, and DHCP Server.  My issue is that we are running out of IP addresses and I have about 20 or so left to assign. Given the above setting can I make changes to my RV016 to give me more than 256 addresses? If yes what do I need to do and do I need to make any changes on Windows Server?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N Bridge To Expand Signals

I just installed a Linksys WRT160N router. The signal started of good about 50 to 70 feet from the routers location. Now the signal is registering as low to good, about 54Mbps. I was wondering what options I might have to install a wireless bridge for expansion of the signal. I have configured an encrypted network using WPA2. I am wondering what the technical difficulty would be to install and configure it. I setup the WRT160N myself if that means anything.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950 And Cable Router - Expand Home Network

Apr 27, 2012

I just picked up a 24 port Catalyst 2950 to expand my home network and learn a bit more about networking. Having just upgraded the IOS software 'm now trying to get this to work as required on my network but I'm having a few issues.

My intentions are to plug my cable router/modem wan connection which is set up as the dhcp server to fa 0/1, then use fa 0/2 - 24 for the rest of my wired network. So essentially all on the same subnet interfacing with the router 192.168.0.1.

So far I have set up all of the security on the switch, and have all switch ports assigned to vlan1 with no IPs. My laptop connected to fa0/2 however is not assigned an ip address. Looking at a few posts I ahve rightly or wrongly played about with dhcp snooping.

Wireless Slow After Getting Comcast?

Today, after comcast, the wired computer is downloading at about 70 megs a second, and the wireless is at about .3 megs a second. I turned off the security (I'm in the country, no security needed) and changed the channel. I went to ASUS to get the newest wireless driver...

Comcast Connection Keeps Dropping Often

Sep 11, 2012

I have had comcast for 4 years and for the last two years my comcast connection had been dropping. At the time I didn;t take it as a big deal because I have bad connection but not it's way too frequent to ignore. I have gotten a new router and exchanged a modem from comcast. Basically at a random time of the day internet just goes off. To fix it, I have to go up to the router and disconnect and reconnect the router. Even sometimes it doesn't fix the connection so now to fix the dropped internet everytime I do the following procedure: Unplug ethernet cable from modem --> Unplug the modem --> unplug the cable that connects the modem and a Y-extension for TV and internet

Moving From Comcast Gateway To Business

Jul 31, 2012

I have a 'Comcast Business Gateway' a friend gave me and I would like to use it instead of the regular gateway. The business gateway has extra Ethernet ports on the back where as the regular gateway just has one for your router. I plugged in the business gateway and I couldn't access the network. I used 10.1.10.1 which I thought was comcast's default but to no avail. I am not a tech so I am now stuck. The whole reason I am trying to do this is because the wireless routor is in the house, with a ethernet wire running to the shop. This distance is about 60 feet. I have the computer pluged into the wire but I can't get the printer or the other computer to connect to the wireless. I would like to connect the Business Gateway to the house wireless and then run the hard wire to the shop and connect another wireless router to the wire and run the shop on its own wireless. I tried one of the wireless extenders and it does not have enough juice.

Comcast :: Boosting The Signals Strength

Jun 14, 2011

I have had a wireless LAN in my home for a couple of years now and it's always worked great. I could download a 10MB file in less than a minute. Then I moved one of my computers & Wii to the other side of the house & now I can hardly get Google to load. My wireless adapter utility says I have only one "bar", and the signal strength is about 20%. Often it drops the connection altogether. I've tried the Wii, and another computer in the same location and they have a very poor connection as well. To make things even more confusing I can get a sporadic burst of speed that will sometimes last a minute, sometimes an hour. I have a Linksys WRT300N router with Comcast cable service. Is there any way I can boost my signal strength? Is there even such a device?
