Linksys Wired Router :: Expand IP Addresses Beyond 256 / RV016

Jan 16, 2011

Currently We have an RV016 setup and Setup>Network we have the following settings:

Host Name: pagegateway
Domain Name: mycompany.com
Device IP address: 10.20.181.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

DHCP Server is not enabled on the RV016.  We currently have a Windows 2003 Server that is acting as Exchange Server, Active Diretory, and DHCP Server.  My issue is that we are running out of IP addresses and I have about 20 or so left to assign. Given the above setting can I make changes to my RV016 to give me more than 256 addresses? If yes what do I need to do and do I need to make any changes on Windows Server?

Linksys Wired Router :: RV016 Dual Wan Configuration

Oct 16, 2012

I have recently implimented an RV016 device into our network. We have a bonded T1 service with Paetec/Windstream (5 static IPs) and also a cable connection with Comcast (no static IP). The T1 has been our primary connection, and our MX and A records all use this IP address. I have the rules set and using a one-to-one NAT setup with our 5 IPs. Everything is working great with the T1 in place and email is flowing with no problems, however when I connect the cable into the WAN2 port and try to send email, its using that outbound connection, rather then the T1 and our spam filter is blocking it. So the email is rejected and we get this message below.

Linksys Wired Router :: How To Configure RV016 For Two WANs

Apr 13, 2011

how to configure Linksys RV016 for two WANs (cable+DSL)? It looks like switching between those two connections not splitting what is set for WAN1 and what is set for WAN2.I set load balancing as- WAN1 (cable) all HTTP up/donw should go there- WAN2 (DSL) GTalk, IMs, SMTP, POP3, IMAP up/down should go therebut looks like is not working that way. When I will go to speedtest.net and test a connection I always get less amount then connected directly through cable : Also when people try to use any session or IP sensitive web site it doesn't let them to log in because session was expired (based on IP) or IP was changed.

Linksys Wired Router :: RV016 Load Balance Configuration?

Dec 10, 2008

We have :DSLT-1  I want to route all VOIP traffic and traffic to one IP address over the T-1, all other traffic I want to route over the DSL.  HOWEVER, in the event that the DSL fails, have the DSL traffic failover to the T-1.I have setup the router to do just that (I think) and when I go to a site like "whatismyipaddress.com", it shows my IP as comming from the T-1.  With the setup I described that traffic should always route over the DSL.Straight up protocol binding won't work because the traffic I want to route over the T-1 to one specific IP is going to be prot 80 and 443 (web traffic)

Linksys Wired Router :: RV016 Limitations And Traffic Routing

Aug 8, 2011

My RV016 does not seem to route traffic that does not originate from the subent that it sits on. For example, I have my RV016 on 192.168.1.1 and a gateway to 192.168.2.0/24 is at 192.168.1.2. None of the traffic originating in 192.168.2.0 is routed by the RV016. I have checked the routing tables and ACLs with no luck. I know the traffic is hitting the RV016 because I setup a packet sniffer. The packets just simply die there. Is this a limitation of the RV016 only being assigned to a single class C? Does it also ignore all internal traffic not from that class C even if the ACLs are open?

Linksys Wired Router :: VPN Tunnel Disconnect Between RV016 And RV082

Jun 2, 2011

Currently I have a VPN tunnel setup between our company locations. Location A has Linksys RV016 and Location B has RV082.  Everything has been working with no problems for the past 2 years with only minor disconnect issues in the VPN tunnel between the locations.

For the past 2 weeks I have been running into issues with the Tunnel. Users in Location B are reporting problems with losing connection to applications that are hosted in Location A. At first I start with doing a ping to router address in Location B and I get "request timed out". Next I login to router in Location A and under VPN I notice that the VPN tunnel is not disconnect (I see disconnect button). Once I click on Disconnect the screen refreshes and that seemed to restablish connecting with router in Location B. The drop connection has been been going on for the past 2 weeks and only happens once a day specifically between 1 PM and 3 PM EST. I have been reading all over the internet and no luck at all. The VPN tunnel settings are the same on both routers and under Advanced options both Keep Alive and Dead Peer Detection (DPD)  are checked.

Linksys Wired Router :: Can't Ping RV016 On WAN1 Port (external IP)

Feb 1, 2011

I am trying to setup an RV016 router to do "1 to 1 NAT". I am starting with setting the external IP address of my RV016 to 10.8.58.219 on the WAN1 port, and LAN IP 10.10.20.254. Simple enough. When I connect my laptop to port1 on the router's LAN side I can ping the router's external AND internal IP addresses fine; But I can not ping from outside when connected through WAN1 port.I am performing a simple local test with an external hub, I put a patch cable from WAN1 port to the hub, another patch cable from port 1 on LAN side to the same hub, and from my laptop to the hub. When I use my laptop's IP address with the internal schema (10.10.20.100 for example) I can ping both WAN1 and LAN IP's; but when I use on my laptop the external IP schema (10.8.58.100 for example) I can not ping it. Therefore is not working when I connect my router to the real network.I went into the web setup pages of the router and dissabled: firewall and basicaly all security "blocks" it has, and leave it open for my testing.

Cisco Routers :: Set Bandwidth Priority By MAC Addresses On RV016?

Mar 20, 2012

I currently have the following network structure, which work fine:

The only bandwidth management configuration I did in the Cisco E1000 router is to set the QOS, giving high priority to the 5 SIP Phones mac addresses.

The problem: I purchased a Small Business Cisco router RV016 because the company keep expanding so they will add more SIP Phones and PCs. In the new router configurations, there is no way to do like I did on the E1000 I just want to be able to set high priority to the SIP Phones mac addresses.

What happens when I use the new router (RV016) is that, sometime you dial a number and the phone do a busy signal and indicate "Call failed" or sometime people call in and there is only 3 phones ringing.

I tried port forwarding.. disabling firewall.. SPI.. I tried access rule.. whatever I do doesn't fix the issue.

When I put the Cisco E1000 back everything goes well.

I'm using the latest firmware: RV0XX-v4.1.1.01-sp.bin

Connecting Netgear To Linksys Router To Expand Network?

Jul 6, 2011

I have a netgear CVG834G main router, were my desktop is plugged on to.I pulled a new cable trough the house and garage to have internet access on the other side (cable length is about 80 meters). After the 80meters of cable I placed a Linksys WRT54GS v5.1 router. The problem is that I can connect to the Linksys, but the Linksys cant connect to the netgear. On the Linksys the internet LED is blinking very slowly (what does this mean?). So first I thought that the cable was broken or too long. I tested the cable => not broken. I connected the Linksys with the netgear trough a shorter cable and then connected my laptop via the long cable (80meter) and this works perfectly. Is the maximum distends a netgear can take less than 80 meters? (thought is was 100meter ).

I am wondering what the technical difficulty would be to install and configure it. I setup the WRT160N myself if that means anything.

E4200v2 Router Assigning Arbitrary Ip Addresses To Wired Peripherals?

Feb 13, 2012

problem I have encountered with a Cisco E4200v2 router (with current firmware update) which is just over three months old. The other day my internet connection (cable "always on") hiccuped a couple of time (which is not unusual for this area). However, when the service finally restored itself, I lost a PC and printer from my home network, and the ability to connect to the internet with the wired PC. Outages like this are normal in this area and have not had an issue like this before. Both were "wired" via (CAT 5e) cables. The three PC's that were connected via wi-fi were not affected. We switched CAT 5e cables several times with not changed in status. The wired printer and PC were assigned arbitrary ip addresses in the 16X.XXX etc. range. I think that has to do with not being able to communicate with the DHCP server? However, we connected one of the laptops via a CAT 5e cable directly to the router, and it too was assigned an arbitrary ip address. I finally reverted to my old router (LINKSYS WRT160N), and the issue went away. Is this a known E4200v2 issue? Is there a fix or workaround for this? The "wired" PC and two laptops are Windows 7, and the all-in-one is running Vista.I can continue using my WRT16N. But hate to think I wasted good money on this new dual band. Have never had any issues before with Linksy/Cisco before.

Linksys Wired Router :: EA4500 - Wired Connections Have Long Ping Times

Sep 23, 2012

I purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday.  Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues.  Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected.  When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms.  They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's.  I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference.  I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support.  We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.

It was so slow on my work computer, a pint to yahoo timed out.  The computers connecting to router are

XP SP3 (mine)
Win 7 Home (IPV6 turned off)
Work laptop that uses VPN and VOIP

Linksys Wired Router :: E4200 No Longer Accepts Wired Connections?

I cannot connect any laptops WIRED to the router. Nothing has changed on the systems to restrict internet access. There is something wrong with the router and the WIRED ports. I tried going through the troubleshooting on this site but it was of little to no assistance. The Cisco Connect utility doesn't appear to accomplish anything either. My guess is because I cannot connect to the WIRED ports on the router to connect to the internet to allow for whatever troubleshooting that needs to be done.

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR81 Keeps Losing Wired Connection To WAP54G?

Apr 11, 2012

I have a WAP54G in my basement shop, wired to our main router upstairs, which is a Linksys BEFSR81.  I'm not sure if this is an issue with the WAP or the router.

I only use the laptop computer in the shop every couple of days, but I leave the laptop plugged in and on most of the time.  I used to have the power settings such that it didn't power down completely even after a long time.  With that setup, if i didn't use the computer for several days, it would find that the connection to the router had died.  The wireless link would report that it had a solid connection, but I couldn't connect to anything.  Power cycling the WAP always fixed this.

Recently, I decided to save some wear & tear on the laptop drive, and adjusted the power settings to go to standby after a couple of hours.   Now, it seems I can't even go one day without losing my connection.

I am running the latest frimware in the WAP, and the router is version 3.1.  I can't check the firmware version on the router at the moment, because the web interface is giving me a blank screen.  I know from past experience that I will have to power cycle it to get it to talk to me again.

In any event, it seems like the router connection to the WAP is timing out.  I set the router "client lease time" up to 10000 a while back when I first had this problem, but that is clearly not doing the trick.
