View 2 RepliesI just got Comcast at my house and I'm having major problems with my wireless speeds. I was on Frontier until today and both the wired computer and the wireless would download at the same speed and have the same ping. Today, after comcast, the wired computer is downloading at about 70 megs a second, and the wireless is at about .3 megs a second. I turned off the security (I'm in the country, no security needed) and changed the channel. I went to ASUS to get the newest wireless driver...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had comcast for 4 years and for the last two years my comcast connection had been dropping. At the time I didn;t take it as a big deal because I have bad connection but not it's way too frequent to ignore. I have gotten a new router and exchanged a modem from comcast. Basically at a random time of the day internet just goes off. To fix it, I have to go up to the router and disconnect and reconnect the router. Even sometimes it doesn't fix the connection so now to fix the dropped internet everytime I do the following procedure: Unplug ethernet cable from modem --> Unplug the modem --> unplug the cable that connects the modem and a Y-extension for TV and internet

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 'Comcast Business Gateway' a friend gave me and I would like to use it instead of the regular gateway. The business gateway has extra Ethernet ports on the back where as the regular gateway just has one for your router. I plugged in the business gateway and I couldn't access the network. I used 10.1.10.1 which I thought was comcast's default but to no avail. I am not a tech so I am now stuck. The whole reason I am trying to do this is because the wireless routor is in the house, with a ethernet wire running to the shop. This distance is about 60 feet. I have the computer pluged into the wire but I can't get the printer or the other computer to connect to the wireless. I would like to connect the Business Gateway to the house wireless and then run the hard wire to the shop and connect another wireless router to the wire and run the shop on its own wireless. I tried one of the wireless extenders and it does not have enough juice.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had a wireless LAN in my home for a couple of years now and it's always worked great. I could download a 10MB file in less than a minute. Then I moved one of my computers & Wii to the other side of the house & now I can hardly get Google to load. My wireless adapter utility says I have only one "bar", and the signal strength is about 20%. Often it drops the connection altogether. I've tried the Wii, and another computer in the same location and they have a very poor connection as well. To make things even more confusing I can get a sporadic burst of speed that will sometimes last a minute, sometimes an hour. I have a Linksys WRT300N router with Comcast cable service. Is there any way I can boost my signal strength? Is there even such a device?
View 12 Replies View Relatedtried 2 routers, one brand new , both DIR655 from Dlink - an older router. Just got a Comcast internet connection. The internet is fine when connected to the laptop directly. The router can talk to the computer. but plugging the internet cable into the router, the router never quite finds it, ie the blue indicator light never indicates access from modem to the router. So cant get that extra protection from the router, or the convenience of it.
By the way I am doing all of this hardwired even though the router is wireless capable. I did a hard reset which I could log on and see worked of the router. This happens when it is not hooked to the computer. I did the thing of powercycling modem and router, no change. Do I need a newer router? Is there something weird about Comcast, these were fine w Cablevision. Comcast tech support was useless.
I bought comcast xfinity internet about a month ago, and I cannot get any upload speed. It's jammed up at about .40, and I'm paying for 3-4 mbs. My plan is 15/3, but the download speed is always over 20 mbs, while the upload is .40.
Comcast has been here twice with two new modems, and ran brand new cable under the house, because they said the signal was weak. Now it's strong, the modem is fine, and there is STILL no upload. I can barely upload pics to photobucket. Comcast basically told me there is nothing wrong on their end, and there is nothing they can do. The signal is strong, the modem is fine, the cabling is fine, and they are providing their service on their end.

I had recently switched to Comcast Xfinity Blast internet. I ordered the service with 22 mbps. Now when I download something, it becomes a challenge for the download to get faster than 500kbps. I don't understand, It should be a lot more. If it stays at this rate, than there would be no difference between my current and previous service.

I just moved into a new apartment. It has Comcast performance internet (16mbps). However im not getting anywhere near that. I have it connected via ethernet.
I tried speedtest.net and my result was 1mbps download. ping of 225. Web windows take forever to open
I'm currently using my Acer Aspire x1700 desktop computer running Windows 8. It's connected to my router via Ethernet and gets about 25mb/sec. The problem is, my router can only broadcast the signal to my two front rooms and all of the rooms of the level it's on (Living Room, Sun Room, & Kitchen). All of my devices get full signal in these rooms. The holidays are coming up, so people are going to start bringing cellphones, tablets, gaming devices, etc into my house. My room is about 24 ft away from it (My 2nd floor is 8.5 ft above the 1st). In my room, my laptop, a Dell Inspriron running Windows 7, got about 13mb/sec. But as soon as I walk into the next room, which is about 8 ft away, the signal becomes very spotty on my iPod touch/iPad. My laptop can pick up about 2 bars, and so can my Grandma's HP. If I move another 2 feet into my mom's room my iPod Touch/iPad gets one bar, my laptop still gets two, but it's very slow and spotty. My iPod touch/iPad gets a kind of weak signal in my room.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor those of you who are trying to connect your router to a Comcast modem, be sure to actually RESET the modem instead of just depowering it like it instructs you in the setup process. This should save a lot of trial and error. Also unmark the MAC address cloning like the Cisco connect software does, then just renew IP and it should connect just fine.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI just purchased Comcast Fiber EDI service. Comcast delivers this service on a /30 network and a /27 network. The customer (me) has to route the /27 network through the /30 network .
Here’s an example of the IP’s they gave me:
10.202.187.128/30 Sub net Mask: 255.255.255.252 Gateway: (.129) Customer Layer 3 (.130 10.202.187.160/27 255.255.255.224
I have a Cisco 1921 router with 2 on board Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. Would I be correct if I put 10.202.187.130 on GigabitEthernet0/1 and 10.202.187.161 on GigabitEthernet0/0 and then do a static route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.202.187.130 ?
Obviously I have very little Cisco router knowledge and I’m doing this with the Cisco Configuration Professional software.
I sometimes am forced to use my computer at work to set-up wireless networks for employees who move into temporary apartments. Now every time I am at my home, my computer, ipad, and iphone keep redirecting to comcast home activation page. The problem is the home activation page that comes up is for one of the apartments I set-up for my employer. It seems to be stuck on the final steps of this other persons comcast set-up and I cant get it to go away. I have a Linksys router with a secure network. It shows I am connected to my network, but when I try to get on-line it send me right back to Comcast activation page for someone elses account. Countless calls to Comcast have gotten me know where. Since the final steps of the comcast activation involve downloading desk top software, and the ipad will not let you download desktop software even into dropbox. It has made my ipad useless when I'm at home.

If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
I've tried explorer and taken down the firewalls, I had her school IT person remote access to my computer to see if it is on their end...still she can't connect. We can access from other computers (my work) but still not on my home computer (windows vista) Comcast now tells me not there problem since I can connect to internet? I've also changed my norton protect to AVG to see if that was an issue..
I work in small office with four users and we use Comcast as our ISP. A separate room from the office has our cable modem. The cable modem has a Ethernet cable going to a WRT54G WAN Port. The WRT54G is not being used as a wireless router.Coming from the LAN ports is a Ethernet cable going to a Netgear switch. The office has Ethernet ports and one of them is hooked up to a Netgear WDNR3700 wireless router. All users are utilize the wireless network to get online. There IP Address is 10.0.x.x. When I use a Ethernet cable to a computer my IP Address is 192.168.x.x.
What needs to be done so the IP Addresses of the wireless network and wired network use the same IP Address range?
I have a Comcast Router pushing out IP's in the 10.1.10.X range. I want to hookup a Linksys E1000 Router so I can use its wireless & Guest access features. The Linksys is using the 192.168.1.x range. I have a cable from the comcast router running into the Internet port of the Linksys. I have tried changing the Linksys router IP to 10.1.10.x and turning off DHCP. It will not allow me to the internet nor allow the PC connected to it to connect to the PC that is attached to the Comcast Router. I cannot replace the Comcast as it is a combi router/modem.

I have called Netgear to explain the issue and was on the phone with them for 45 minutes. They did get the laptop to work but my desktop still does not. They told me it was a browser error. If I disconnect the ethernet cable from the router to my computer everything works perfect.I tried to reinstall the CD that came with the router and as I try to get through step 2 it says no router detected.I think this is my hold up but I have no way to know how to fix this. I tried to go on the Netgear website and they tell me that I have to be able to connect to the internet to download through the router. Well I can't do that because obviously that is the hangup. If I click on my Network Connections. It shows my computer connected to a Network with limited capability and then a big red X going to the internet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust got home from the Comcast store with a $7 rented modem just to last me until I do research and purchase one. I realize that this modem has only one Ethernet port with no WiFi support so I have another PC and a laptop sitting idle because there's no internet access. Did a quick search using Comcast's authorized modem's list and all of them only have a single Ethernet port and no WiFi. Is there a modem with multiple Ethernet ports with built in WiFi? I am getting almost 20mbps with a download speed of 4mb/s which is a HUGE improvement over my ATT DSL service that I've had since forever at 3mbps with a download speed of 300kb/s. I have no idea what technical specifications to look for in a cable modem to get 100% of full potential speed from my service without disconnects or other various problems.
I have a ATT U-Verse router sitting here right now, I am wondering if I can somehow connect it to my Comcast modem. I tried to connect the ATT router into Comcast modem via Ethernet cable, but I couldn't get past the "Your DSL service is unavailable" in the browser, but in my desktop system tray, it shows I am connected to the internet. If I could use this router, I would rather spend money on a modem instead of getting a combo.
I have Comcast 20Mbps internet. When I'm on the Mac partition of my computer, I get 15Mbps download and a ping of less than 10 on speedtest.net. When I'm on my Windows partition, I get a ping of around 250 with a download speed of 1.5Mbps. I read posts where people said disabling their firewall worked, so I disabled mine and it made no difference.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I have noticed my internet get slow. I use a comcast cable internet connection that is directly connected to my dlink DR 655. I use the megapath internet speed test [URL] when testing my internet speed. Have a laptop that is usually on wireless and an XP workstation that is connected to the 655 directly with static IP.
I would be browsing the internet and all the sudden the internet would get really slow. This would happen on both my desktop and the laptop and my speed test on both machines would be around .3 Mbps. When this happens I would go and connect the laptop with the ethernet pot directly to the modem. Of course a reboot of the modem has to occur before a connection can be made so once I do that all the sudden my internet is back up to par (12 Mbps). I go ahead and put my network back to the way it was and it all goes back up to 12 Mbps. I have called comcast several times and they are telling me it my router.
This picture shows a snapshot of some windows from the laptop. The CMD ipconfig on the bottom left shows the laptop network settings when connected directly to the modem. The CMD ipconfig on the upper left is the network settings when connected to the router. The web page on the right shows the WAN network settings when the 655 is connected to the cable modem.
Notice the DNS servers, they are different when the 655 is connected to the modem versus when the laptop is connected to the modem. Could this be part of my problem? I have not seen were I can manually change 655 DNS entries ... is there a way to do this? Or should I not even be worried about it?
Comcast has inform me that my cm-100 is no longer compatible with their new upgrade. They say I need docsis 3.0 and mine is only certified to 2.0.

We have 50 Mb Comcast cable conencted to 2951. There is another conenction to AT&T 20 Mb circuit which goes thru' an ASA 5510. Path to Internet is as below. [code]
As long as Comcast is up, 2951 sends Internet traffic out to Comcast and uses AT&T via ASA for backup. When traffic goes over Comcast, users complain about slow speed out to Internet. If we force traffic to AT&T via ASA, speed issue goes away.
We don't see any issue on 2951 router in terms of CPU or memory util.WHat can cause slow speed despite the fact that router resources are not maxed out and Comcast circuit has 150% more capacity than AT&T?
Life was great with my DIR-615 and Motorola Surf Board SB-5100 cable modem, but my D-Link refuses to recognize the Internet signal from the Thomson. The Comcast guy spent an hour trying to get it to work, but I'm stuck watching MLB.tv on a 24" monitor in a stiff office chair in my study, instead of on a 47" LCD in my living room. How can I force the DIR-615 to accept the Thomson ACG905? If you advise me to check settings or manually change them, please do not "assume" that I know how to access those settings.

I have noticed that if a configuration for one has WPA and another has WPA-2 they will bump. This may be true for differences in WEP-keys, TKIP setting, etc. If you do new configurations, the settings may revert each time to a default, which you may not notice.Keeping the network settings matched may work. Using a portable memory device to run a saved configuration on each machine can improve their synchronization.
