Comcast :: Boosting The Signals Strength
Jun 14, 2011
I have had a wireless LAN in my home for a couple of years now and it's always worked great. I could download a 10MB file in less than a minute. Then I moved one of my computers & Wii to the other side of the house & now I can hardly get Google to load. My wireless adapter utility says I have only one "bar", and the signal strength is about 20%. Often it drops the connection altogether. I've tried the Wii, and another computer in the same location and they have a very poor connection as well. To make things even more confusing I can get a sporadic burst of speed that will sometimes last a minute, sometimes an hour. I have a Linksys WRT300N router with Comcast cable service. Is there any way I can boost my signal strength? Is there even such a device?

I recently purchased a Wi-Fi repeater (Siemens Gigaset Repeater WLAN SE365) to boost my wi-fi signal throughout my house without having to drill through walls of concrete (with a boost in phone wi-fi in mind on the top floor of the house). I was advised to buy one specifically with the make and model of my router in mind, as connectivity might be an issue if these don't match up. I own a Siemens Gigaset SX55 router so there should be no issue there (I can use the repeater on 2 different frequencies, not sure which one is best, 2.4 or 5 ghz). The instruction manual told me to connect the repeater to my pc once (through use of an Ethernet-cable supplied) so I could alter the settings of the repeater to match with that of my router (same SSID, protection method, channel). Whereas naming it the same as the router by modifying the SSID and using the same ASCII WEP-protection password as the router were doable, I could not find an option to change a channel.
At this point the instruction manual was fresh out of ideas and told me that I had set up the repeater as it should be installed. After unplugging it from my pc and plugging the regular ethernet cable back in for internet (There is wi-fi coming from the router downstairs but also a cable through the house to the pc) I was ready to go and seeing the wi-fi bars on my phone jump up to maximum made me extremely happy. Unfortunately the phone (and the app Wifi Analyzer) did recognize the full signal but when trying to open sites or apps that use internet it responded as if it had no signal whatsoever

I just got Comcast at my house and I'm having major problems with my wireless speeds. I was on Frontier until today and both the wired computer and the wireless would download at the same speed and have the same ping. Today, after comcast, the wired computer is downloading at about 70 megs a second, and the wireless is at about .3 megs a second. I turned off the security (I'm in the country, no security needed) and changed the channel. I went to ASUS to get the newest wireless driver...

I have had comcast for 4 years and for the last two years my comcast connection had been dropping. At the time I didn;t take it as a big deal because I have bad connection but not it's way too frequent to ignore. I have gotten a new router and exchanged a modem from comcast. Basically at a random time of the day internet just goes off. To fix it, I have to go up to the router and disconnect and reconnect the router. Even sometimes it doesn't fix the connection so now to fix the dropped internet everytime I do the following procedure: Unplug ethernet cable from modem --> Unplug the modem --> unplug the cable that connects the modem and a Y-extension for TV and internet

I recently bought the above product, the ASUS USB N13 network adapter, and last night when i tried connecting to my wireless router, it worked, but I found that I could only get a maximum on 35% signal, where as my Acer laptop from 2005, receives upto a 100% signal. For a product thats rated at 150m range, distance should not be a problem, I have screen shot if required of the signal strength.

I have a 'Comcast Business Gateway' a friend gave me and I would like to use it instead of the regular gateway. The business gateway has extra Ethernet ports on the back where as the regular gateway just has one for your router. I plugged in the business gateway and I couldn't access the network. I used 10.1.10.1 which I thought was comcast's default but to no avail. I am not a tech so I am now stuck. The whole reason I am trying to do this is because the wireless routor is in the house, with a ethernet wire running to the shop. This distance is about 60 feet. I have the computer pluged into the wire but I can't get the printer or the other computer to connect to the wireless. I would like to connect the Business Gateway to the house wireless and then run the hard wire to the shop and connect another wireless router to the wire and run the shop on its own wireless. I tried one of the wireless extenders and it does not have enough juice.

tried 2 routers, one brand new , both DIR655 from Dlink - an older router. Just got a Comcast internet connection. The internet is fine when connected to the laptop directly. The router can talk to the computer. but plugging the internet cable into the router, the router never quite finds it, ie the blue indicator light never indicates access from modem to the router. So cant get that extra protection from the router, or the convenience of it.
By the way I am doing all of this hardwired even though the router is wireless capable. I did a hard reset which I could log on and see worked of the router. This happens when it is not hooked to the computer. I did the thing of powercycling modem and router, no change. Do I need a newer router? Is there something weird about Comcast, these were fine w Cablevision. Comcast tech support was useless.

I bought comcast xfinity internet about a month ago, and I cannot get any upload speed. It's jammed up at about .40, and I'm paying for 3-4 mbs. My plan is 15/3, but the download speed is always over 20 mbs, while the upload is .40.
Comcast has been here twice with two new modems, and ran brand new cable under the house, because they said the signal was weak. Now it's strong, the modem is fine, and there is STILL no upload. I can barely upload pics to photobucket. Comcast basically told me there is nothing wrong on their end, and there is nothing they can do. The signal is strong, the modem is fine, the cabling is fine, and they are providing their service on their end.

I had recently switched to Comcast Xfinity Blast internet. I ordered the service with 22 mbps. Now when I download something, it becomes a challenge for the download to get faster than 500kbps. I don't understand, It should be a lot more. If it stays at this rate, than there would be no difference between my current and previous service.

I'm currently using my Acer Aspire x1700 desktop computer running Windows 8. It's connected to my router via Ethernet and gets about 25mb/sec. The problem is, my router can only broadcast the signal to my two front rooms and all of the rooms of the level it's on (Living Room, Sun Room, & Kitchen). All of my devices get full signal in these rooms. The holidays are coming up, so people are going to start bringing cellphones, tablets, gaming devices, etc into my house. My room is about 24 ft away from it (My 2nd floor is 8.5 ft above the 1st). In my room, my laptop, a Dell Inspriron running Windows 7, got about 13mb/sec. But as soon as I walk into the next room, which is about 8 ft away, the signal becomes very spotty on my iPod touch/iPad. My laptop can pick up about 2 bars, and so can my Grandma's HP. If I move another 2 feet into my mom's room my iPod Touch/iPad gets one bar, my laptop still gets two, but it's very slow and spotty. My iPod touch/iPad gets a kind of weak signal in my room.

For those of you who are trying to connect your router to a Comcast modem, be sure to actually RESET the modem instead of just depowering it like it instructs you in the setup process. This should save a lot of trial and error. Also unmark the MAC address cloning like the Cisco connect software does, then just renew IP and it should connect just fine.

I just purchased Comcast Fiber EDI service. Comcast delivers this service on a /30 network and a /27 network. The customer (me) has to route the /27 network through the /30 network .
Here’s an example of the IP’s they gave me:
10.202.187.128/30 Sub net Mask: 255.255.255.252 Gateway: (.129) Customer Layer 3 (.130 10.202.187.160/27 255.255.255.224
I have a Cisco 1921 router with 2 on board Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. Would I be correct if I put 10.202.187.130 on GigabitEthernet0/1 and 10.202.187.161 on GigabitEthernet0/0 and then do a static route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.202.187.130 ?
Obviously I have very little Cisco router knowledge and I’m doing this with the Cisco Configuration Professional software.

We have a fairly new Asus laptop and for some reason we can't get the wireless to turn on any more.It has a Function button method to turn it on and off and any time you use this button it shows the WLAN simple with a red line through it. No matter how many times you press it it does the same thing.I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, ran a security update for the drivers. When I go into the wireless connection and try and turn it on it shows that it has a signal (not sure what to) but a red X next to the connection in windows 7. I can't actually see any wireless signals so I'm kind of at a loss.

For quite some time now my parents' wireless internet cannot seem to keep a wireless signal anywhere in the house unless you are sitting next to the router. I've been doing everything I know to try and keep the signal strong enough to use it down the hall in the living room.
I've tried using different frequencies and channels however this only seems to work for an hour then the network will fall off the network list entirely and then a few minutes later will pop back in. What is causing this signal to die out completely every few minutes? They've tried countless numbers of wireless routers in hopes it would fix the problem however this never seems to work. Is this an issue with the ISP and/or the modem they provide us? Wired connections work fine, just wireless connections refuse to either stay up or constantly disconnect the user from the network.

I have two desktop computers upstairs. The main pc has the Linksys G Router and the other pc is wireless with a network adapter. All works fine here.Downstairs and on the other side of the house, I use my laptop which is wireless to the network. I also have a 46" hidef tv hooked up to a blu ray player and also connected to the network with a wireless adapter. I use Netflix to stream movies and seem to be having a problem with the signal in this room, both on the tv and my laptop. I sometimes only have 2 bars on my laptop and frequently get disconnected to the internet. When I am streaming movies or tv series, I get frequent stops and starts.
I am guessing that the signal is just not strong enough to reach this far from the router. Would switching to an N router be better for streaming? Would another G router downstairs solve my problem?
