Signals Are Not Strong Enough To Reach The Router?
Mar 27, 2011
I have two desktop computers upstairs. The main pc has the Linksys G Router and the other pc is wireless with a network adapter. All works fine here.Downstairs and on the other side of the house, I use my laptop which is wireless to the network. I also have a 46" hidef tv hooked up to a blu ray player and also connected to the network with a wireless adapter. I use Netflix to stream movies and seem to be having a problem with the signal in this room, both on the tv and my laptop. I sometimes only have 2 bars on my laptop and frequently get disconnected to the internet. When I am streaming movies or tv series, I get frequent stops and starts.
I am guessing that the signal is just not strong enough to reach this far from the router. Would switching to an N router be better for streaming? Would another G router downstairs solve my problem?
I have a Linksys wireless-G connected to my main computer and modem. We live in an extremely long house and I am attempting to connect a Belkin wireless-G router so that the signal is stronger on the other side of the house.
I have 2 laptops, a DELL (windows XP home) and a Toshiba (windows 7).i suddenly couldn't get online with my Toshiba a week ago. Looks like I'm connected, but just can't send out. I changed to the DELL and all was fine for days, then I suddenly couldn't send out for a website with this, either. My connection shows strong, and can receive, but can't send out. This is a secure network (supposedly). I've rebooted, and have internet phone that works, so it's not the modem.
I have just purchased a WAG320N as I was told that I wouldn't have any connection issues with this model. The wireless connection upstairs is still not strong and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this. I'm sick of the blue Ethernet cord running up the stairs connected to my son's XBox.
I have a WLC 4404. I added a new AP to the network and it is associated with the WLC now. But still its not braodcasting the ssids. I compared the configuration with the ones installed before and configuration is same.
for the last 5 days or so, my internet was acting weird, disconnecting every 20 mins or so, i had an old linksys router, no clue on the modem, but all of it's about 7 years old, i got a replacement, Motorola SBG6580, my connection is somewhat better, but my ISP says they can't ping my router/modem
I have got a problem with my LAN connection. I can't connect to the internet anymore and I can't reach my router. I rebooted my router several times, but that didn't work. I thought my network adapter was broken, so I bought a new one and reinstalled the driver, but it did not work. My router does recognize my computer though. When I tried to boot in safe mode with network opportunities, I was able to connect with my router and internet. I can't use System Restore as I don't have any restore points.
Just got a brand new router this morning. Hooked it up to the modem, called Bright House and had it set to bridge mode, set up our wireless range extender and everything was fineMy dad's mac laptop was able to connect as well as my win7 desktop. When my brother tries to connect using his win7 laptop, though, he can connect to the router but not to the internet. He keeps getting limited access. He was able to connect and use a neighbor's wireless (but obviously we don't want to be doing that) so we know it's at least working
Recently I bought a new netgear router. It has two separate wireless signals. One is the main wireless connection for my computers. The other is a slower backup network for smartphones, apple tv, and guests. All of the other devices in the house can find both signals, but my main PC is only finding the backup network. It works fine for general browsing, but is very slow for downloads and unusable for gaming
I have tried to put a password on my dlink-615 wireless router, however, this attempt failed and as a result it is no longer picking up the next work signals from my modem.
I have D-link 524 router, my problem is that its signals are not being detected ( the devices we connect are ipad 4, htc wildfire S, nokia e-5 . these devices detect other wifi and connect to them.
Well I just recently got my computer back from Gateway.I sent it off to them because I was having overheating issues.Well they fixed that by replacing the cpu and fans. But now that I have it back I'm not getting a very good signal from my wireless router. I'm one room away from the router and it use to be full bars...Now I'm at a steady 2 bars, signal strength poor. I used to be able to pick up probably 20 networks that were close to me. Now I don't pick up any of those, just my own. I'm wondering what the heck happened! I've tried restoring my system but it didn't do anything. Also, if I go to Control panel and click on diagnose wireless adapter it will say it fixes it, and then a bunch of networks pop up, all good strength, even mine will have full bars for about 30 seconds, then boom, all the other networks disappear and mine goes clear down to 2 bars.
Goal: extend the reach of my WiFi to multiple floors with keeping in the basement the DSL modem - Actiontech M1000 and Actiontech W1000. I have a Linksys Access Point and Linksys Router. I was told by CenturyLink (only allowed support for Actiontech) that the modem would need to be put in bridge mod that would disable the Actiontech W1000. Whereas I want to keep access in the basement and add coverage to upstairs.
being able to config the Linksys(s) or using DD-WRT operating system?
It seems since I have moved into my new house months ago my E3000 keeps on dropping its signal. I have an older roouter that doesn't do this. Currently I have a PS3/Xbox 360 plugged in and then the 3 laptops that use the wireless.
E2000-RM router has been working fine until about 2 days ago. Wired connection still works fine, but the wireless signals seems to be dropping in and out. I have a couple wireless devices and they all seem to be experiencing problems. Using the network connection bar on my laptop sometimes it shows a strong signal and connects no problem. Then all of a sudden the signal is gone (drops off list). It can be both the main and guest signal dropping, other times it might just be the main, etc., etc. Sometimes it shows a signal but will not connect and then a few seconds it might connect, or drop entirely. I guess the best word to describe it is highly erratic. Distance does not seem to matter. I can be 2 feet away and get the same behavior. The indicator on the box shows a signal at all times.
So I just got this router in hopes that I would get a better signal within my room as opposed to my older router. Unfortunately, nothing has changed, in fact I think I'm getting weaker signals. My previous router was a D-Link WBR-2310. I went to speed test.net and tested 3 variables. My wifi on my desktop in my room, my wifi when right next to a router on my laptop, and my wifi using my neighbors wifi in my room.
My room Desktop Wifi: Download was 0.50 mbs Upload: 3.6
My laptop right next to Router: Download 19.87 mbs Upload: 3.5
My room Desktop Neighbors Wifi: Download was 17.3 mbs Upload was 3.32.
What is the point of this new wireless N router, when it can't beat a G router older model in reach? And why does is have a 0.50 mb d/l speed but a 3.6 upload speed?
I currently have a 20MB down and 2MB internet. I have a Cisco Linksys E4200 with Firmware Version 1.0.05. We have a two bedroom apartment, one of the bedrooms is our office which is by the front door. We have the wireless router and our modem in the office. We have an apple TV in our living room that is connected to the wireless internet. Every time we get random times where the video output is very pixely and seems we are streaming shows/movies on a 56k modem.
I have a new EA4500 router and I cannot configure it to reach the 450 mbps that is supposed to get.
I have it configured as follows: Dual Band- 2,4 and 5 GHz 2,4 in 20MHz only - 5 GHz in 40 MHz only 2,4 Mixed - 5 Ghz only N WPA2 personal in both Channel - automatic (both)
I have checked that the 5 Ghz network can only use 4 channels: 36, 40, 44, 48. Where are the channels up to 100 (or more)? How to get all the power of the router?
I have DSL set up in a home network. I want it to be used in my barn. The signal won't reach wireless though. I have 2 older wireless routers not being used - Lynksys wrt54gx4. Can I add two of these in the path to the barn to extend the signal? I would put one in the back of the house and one halfway to the barn in the pool house. ZCan these routers connect wirelessly to the home network?
I have a cisco 2651xm router here at home, and at another remote location I have a cisco 1760 router, both are connected to the internet via adsl (WIC1-ADSL card). The problem is that from home I can't connect to the snmp-service on the 1760 router. I'm using a PC that's on the LAN of the 2651XM router, the blockage is in the 2651XM router, because if I swap it for a cheap plastic domestic router I can get snmp data from the 1760 router, and this is without any port forwarding in the domestic router. What config do I need on the 2651XM router so it will pass this traffic?
We are facing strange issue in our network. We have a remote branch which is connected to main branch using Leased Line. Remote branch is having Cisco 1700 Router. Every day in the morning time the remote router is unreachable. We are not able to reach (ping/telnet) the remote Router but able to reach L3 switch/ LAN behind this router. The users from remote branch is also not able to reach the local router but they are able to ping the Main branch.Users in the remote branch are not able to access any resources in the main branch during the issue.
During the issue, we have checked the remote branch router and found the CPU utilization of the Cisco 1700 router is very high (99%). If we run "Show process CPU" command (please find the attachment) specially IP input process is very high (97%).
i receive my router signals at my laptop but no internet access. i am receiving this problem from last 2,3 days. Before this it was working fine. I have reset the router settings many time but no results. i get the signals at my laptop but i cant access the internet . some times i got DNS server error.
I have D-link 524 router, my problem is that its signals are not being detected previously it was working fine( the devices we connect are ipad 4, htc wildfire S, nokia e-5 . these devices detect other wifi and connect to them.
i was trying to see each step taking in arp process in simulation mode of packet tracer using hostA,SW1,R1,SW2, hostB diagram. In simulation mode , everything was flowing nicely till R1's arp resolves hostB's mac address. Then suddenly hostA starts sending icmp packet.
2 question; i thought hostA already sent the icmp to R1 once resolving R1's mac. What happened the icmp packet R1 received.why R1 didnt send the icmp to hostB after resolving hostB's mac.
2.nd question; after R1'arp resolves hostB mac, what triggers hostA send icmp packet cause in simulation mode there is no any signalling to hostA from R1 to do that.
I am having no end of issues with this router since the upgrade to CCC. I don't want to downgrade because the reason I purchased the router was for the hopeful addition of more apps later on and the CCC.
My router has now suddenly decided to no longer broadcast N signals. My 2.4ghz network is set for mixed and my 5ghz is set for N Only. They are both set to auto channel and WPA2 Personal security and have been working since I purchased the router on Sunday.
Last night it spontaneously rebooted and that was that.
Both laptops (with N adapters) are seeing the 2.4ghz network as 802.11g and my 300Mbps notebook adapter is seeing the 5ghz network as 802.11a. InSSIDer is showing that both networks are now broadcasting at a max of 54Mbps.
I have tried rebooting the router multiple times. I have also tried unplugging it for 60 seconds. I have also attempted to force the 2.4ghz to 20Mhz and a more optimal (unused) channel. That doesn't work. I tried setting the 5ghz network to wide (40mhz) with an optimal channel. Same deal. Still seeing it as 802.11a.
I have a cisco router model number E2000 it has worked fine until a few days ago, it keeps losing its signal on all my wireless devices I have reset it and it still is not working properly. I am wondering if I have to many wireless devices running through this router.
I just installed a Linksys WRT160N router. The signal started of good about 50 to 70 feet from the routers location. Now the signal is registering as low to good, about 54Mbps. I was wondering what options I might have to install a wireless bridge for expansion of the signal. I have configured an encrypted network using WPA2. I am wondering what the technical difficulty would be to install and configure it. I setup the WRT160N myself if that means anything.
At one of our offices, we have a Cisco ASA5505 firewall that has dhcp enabled. I have a WRT54G router plugged into that firewall with DHCP enabled. The scope of our inside network is 192.168.51.***, however when connected to the WRT54G, it gives you the scope of 192.168.1.***We have an antenna amplifier screwed into one of the antenna ports on the router. This whole setup works fine.
The problem is we need to install an access point WAP54G in a building across the property (picks up router wireless signal fine) to repeat the wireless signal to the back of the property where the router will not reach. I have read that all you need to do is type in the wireless mac address of the routher into the access point and select "Wireless Repeater". I have the channels set to 6 on both devices as well as the same security configuration. When I try to connect to the wireless network on the access point, It never gives me an ip in the 192.168.1.*** scope, which the WRT54G is configured to give out. Also, in this setup does the WRT54G need to be set to router or gateway mode? I do not need it to distribute ip addresses. [code]
I bought a WRT54G v6 and since I installed and configured it I've experiencing an intermittent connection in my lan where you can find a notebook wireless connected to the router and a desktop wired to the router by cable.I'm working and then the network stops, both computers lose signal with the router. The signal come back few seconds later but to work in internet again I have to wait some minutes. So I contacted the live assistent on Linksys web-site and the agents said to me to do something that I will list here:- lower the MTU to 1480, 1470, 1450- updated the firmware- reflash the firmware- reset the router for about 30 seconds- do the power cycleIf you don't know what update and reflash the firmware or do the power cycle means you can srsistedthe conclusion is that ee the instructions on this pages: [URL] ...
I just got a job at a School district that has an extremly old and basic network setup (No Firewall, only 2 accounts on the server Student and Teacher). They have two small buildings that have 1 wireless router on each floor about in the middle of the hallway. I am having a strange issue I haven't seen before with a windows 7 laptop that a few of the teachers in the district are having. They can see the wireless router on the network but everytime they try and connect it says "Windows Cannot Connect or is Denied Access". All the other laptops in the building connect fine.Heres what I have done so far.
-Power cycled the router, nothing. -ipconfig /release, and renew, nothing. -Getting closer to the router and connecting, nothing. (Also tried with a differant laptop in the room and it could connect no problem which confused me more) -Updating the network card.(says it has the latest updates) -Re-entering the network key, nothing
What I haven't tried is setting up manually a static IP. But do I need to do that? And if so how do I know which IP to give it is there a way I can generate a list of all the IP's on the network?
I have been having some trouble lately with my internet since I have been home from college. I have no problem connected to my router wirelessly, and I always have a strong connect seeing as I am no more than 15 feet from the router. The problem arises sporadically for different intervals. One second I will be browsing the internet with no problem, and the next second I am unable to load any pages.
I was just in a Skype conversation with one of my friends and had a perfect connection with them. I was on twitter at the same time, when suddenly the pages stopped loading. The weird thing is, my connect was still strong while video chatting and it did not cut out. Why my web pages will not load while I still apparently have a strong connection.
