Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54gx4 Not Being Used - Signal Won't Reach

Jul 3, 2011

I have DSL set up in a home network.  I want it to be used in my barn.  The signal won't reach wireless though.  I have 2 older wireless routers not being used - Lynksys wrt54gx4.  Can I add two of these in the path to the barn to extend the signal?  I would put one in the back of the house and one halfway to the barn in the pool house.  ZCan these routers connect wirelessly to the home network?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Signal Won't Reach Laptop From Far Away

Mar 25, 2013

it might be good to point out first that this was never a problem before i began fixing a completely irrelevant problem (screen broke) with my laptop, which took around three weeks. i could at that time use the internet a couple of rooms away from the router just fine, but now it's a no-go. .

the model is WRT54G, and the serial number is CDFD1F9CJ507.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG54GS Need Wireless Signal To Reach Each Guest Room

i'm setting up a wireless network for a local B&B they currently have a Linksys WAG54GS ADSL router in one of the rooms but need the wireless signal to reach each guest room the house has thick brick walls and an upstairs.i was thinking of using 2 x repeaters, the WRE54G's, and to put one on the ground floor within range of the current ADSL router and to put another on the 1st floor within range of the repeater on the ground floor to receive the bounced signal.I don't know much about these repeaters and how they work exactly and so unsure if this would be a viable solution in my case.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Connecting WRT54GX4 To Network

Feb 21, 2012

I want to add some wifi to our small office. I have a WRT54GX4 wireless router. I would like to have it be part of our 192.168.0.0 network. I manually changed the address of the WRT54GX4 to 192.168.0.50 (an open address) and gave it a range of 25 addresses 192.168.0.51-192.168.0.75. I changed the SSID from "linksys" to something different. I added a WPA2 Personal code. I also changed the admin password from "admin". I did all of this on a laptop connected to the router with an ethernet cable into port 1 on the router with wifi "off" on the laptop. I disconnected this and plugged one end of the ethernet cable into an open port on a switch in our rack and moved the other end from port 1 to the internet port on the router. I connected to the router wirelessly with my iPad. I was able to connect to the router and log into the router but I'm not getting any internet connection.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Cannot Reach To 450 Mbps With EA4500

Feb 8, 2013

I have a new EA4500 router and I cannot configure it to reach the 450 mbps that is supposed to get.

I have it configured as follows:
Dual Band- 2,4 and 5 GHz
2,4 in 20MHz only - 5 GHz in 40 MHz only
2,4 Mixed - 5 Ghz only N
WPA2 personal in both
Channel - automatic (both)

I have checked that the 5 Ghz network can only use 4 channels: 36, 40, 44, 48. Where are the channels up to 100 (or more)? How to get all the power of the router?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Cannot Reach A Specific Website - E3000

I am trying to access [URL] with a Linksys E3000 router. A few days ago it was working fine, and between then and now I made no changes to my network, it just stopped working one day, I assumed the website was down but it turns out that I am able to access the website fine on other networks or via proxies. I also hooked up my computer directly to my modem and I was able to connect to the website fine, but when I try my wired connection to the router I am unable to connect, I have tried Google DNS without success. I know this is a problem with my router, not my modem or computer or ISP.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Firmware 1.0.04 Can No Longer Reach 300 Mbps

Jan 20, 2011

I have a laptop with an Intel Centrino 6300 Ultimate-N wireless card. With the previous firmware I was able to reach 300mbps while on the 5GHz band. Since I updated my E3000 to the latest firmware (1.0.04) I can only reach speeds of 144mbps. I have done a factory reset on the router and stll get the same result. Is there any way I can get it to reach 300mbps again with the current firmware?

Also, yes I have uninstalled / updated the driver software for my wireless card. I have also changed the appropriate settings for the 5GHz band. (40MHz channel width, using WPA2 encryption)

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Cannot Keep Signal

Aug 21, 2011

We have  a wireless internet service. Not satellite. We basically have an antenna on our house that picks up the signal from a tower a mile or two away. I used the e3000 router when we lived in town with broadband internet and it worked fine. I can't get it to keep a hold of a signal. I can connect to the router from the computers but the router drops the signal from the tower. I have an old router that the wireless company was kind enough to lend me that works  , but the signal is weak and it could die at any moment... I"m at my wits end.. I have an expensive piece of equipment that wont hold the signal. I have updated the firmware and the Cisco connect software..

Linksys Wrt54g Router - Inconsistent Wireless Signal?

Jun 6, 2012

I have a linksys wrt54g wireless router and a few weeks ago my wireless connection started to become inconsistent, it would randomly drop service or be very slow, and now it has become very inconsistent and slow, all the while the wireless signal would be 4-5 bars.On my windows 7 desktop, often times the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark pops up over the signal strength indicator when its at 4-5 bars.I've tried changing to 2 different routers and its the same, and the problem is persistent for all computers in the house.I've connected directly via ethernet to the modem and router and service was fine. There are a few wireless networks in the area, some with quite strong signals, but I downloaded the xirrus wifi inspector and it says I'm not sharing a channel (channel 1) and though I'm ~15ft from the router, the signal is ~65dbm, which seems low and is almost equivalent to neighbor's wireless strength.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Low Signal Strength With Wrt54g?

My wireless router has been spotty since my cable company installed a new modem for cable internet.  I have powercycled several times, downloaded new firmware, rebooted and am still having problems.  Lately when I do finally get on the internet with a wireless device, the signal strength is very low.  It is low on my iphone, on my Mac laptop and also on my Samsung Bluray player.  Lately a window keeps popping up when I am trying to watch netflix that states my band width is too low, even though it has been working fine for 2 months.  Is my router outdated?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - Signal Is Much Weaker?

Dec 30, 2009

Just got the E4200 and it seemed great at first.  Connected at 450mbps at close range (maybe 6ft away) and got 223mbps transfer. It seems that recently my signal is much weaker.  I'm around 6-8ft away from the router and I'm getting between 270-360mbps, which to me is poor given the short range.

InSSIDer says the RSSI is -50, while my other wireless N router (dual band) is -35 and is in the exact same location. I'm using the 5ghz radio only, and it is set to N, and I'm using channels 44 and 48.  I checked the hidden advanced wireless page and transmit power is already set to high.

My laptop has an Intel 6300 wireless card.I'm using the current firmware 1.0.02. I've noticed that the speed of the router randomly seems to drop off too (just as I type this, the link rate has gone back up to 450mbps... typical).  Is the router throttling when it gets hot or something? So I just want to find out if others are experiencing similar rates at the same kind of distance.  Seriously, how can you advertise something as 450mbps when you can't even get that link rate at a distance as short as 6ft?

I can't see any thing I can do to increase the link speed (back down to 270mbps now), short of a firmware update to increase the power and use higher channels.  I hear the higher channels are much better, so who do I have to write to, to plead for new firmware? This is a great product, but it's totally ruined by stupid internal antennas and a weak transmit power. Maybe if we make a noise about the not so maximum performance, they might address it.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 - Signal Dropping

Mar 28, 2012

I just bought and set up an E2500 wireless router this evening. Using the default settings (as applied by the Cisco setup CD), I was experiencing pitiful range, with signal dropping to 2 out of 4 bars just one room (about 20 feet away). (Previously, using the exact same physical setup with the same computer and a single-band Belkin n150 router, I always had 4 out of 4 bars in that room).

I entered an online live tech chat, and after some back and forth, the tech rep had me change the settings as follows:
(1) Rename the SSID to separate the two bands: One network SSID for the 5GHz band, another for the 2.4GHz.
(2) Turn off auto-channel for both networks: Set 5GHz to stay on channel 36. Set 2.4GHz to stay on channel 1.
(3) The 5GHz is set to use 20/40 MHz width, while the 2.4GHz is set to use only 20MHz width, but I believe those were the defaults already in place.

Then he promptly ended the chat, so we didn't get to finish. Nonetheless, with these settings in place, I am now getting a steady, uninterrupted 4 bars in the next room, using the 5GHz network SSID. Because we were disconnected, I have a few questions remaining:

(1) Is it normal to get such terrible range using the default settings (that's make for a lot of unhappy customers and a lot of extra calls to tech support)? Or does this indicate a problem with my router? (This was a Cisco certified refurbished model)
(2) Which change 'fixed' the problem: Was it separating the two bands into different SSIDs, or locking the channels rather than using Auto channel?
(3) Was this just intended as a test to troubleshoot the problem, or am I supposed to leave the router configured this way? (Since we were disconnected, I didn't get to follow up with the tech rep after changing the settings.) With it configured this way, I'm connecting devices that can find the 5GHz network to the 5GHz network's SSID, and the other devices that can't find it, I'm connecting to the separate SSID for the 2.4GHz network. Seems unnecessarily messy to have 2 SSIDs.

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Boost Signal Range Of WRT310N

Aug 20, 2008

How to successfully increas the signal range of the WRT310n? I live in a huge old place and the signal drops to one bar (dial-up speed) about 40 feet across the building. However, at the room before that (maybe 30 feet) my Apple Mac book gets great signal and it's no problem. I need to connect the Mac and 2 PC laptops wirelessly.I'm not sure whether to try a signal booster, set up another access point (or how to do that anyway), or what? Running a cable is unfortunately not an option.I also have a WRT300n (which was replaced this weekend with the 310n). Not sure which one really is better, but the 300n router's range didn't even make it as far as the 310n does. (There was weak signal, no active bars.) Someone suggested adding a more powerful antenna to that router instead?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Speed Quality And Signal

May 27, 2012

Bought the new EA4500 a couple of days ago and have looked at my wireless connection and see it varies from 72Mbps to 144Mbps.  It has jumped up to 270Mbps a few times, but rarely.  Shouldn't it be 300Mbps most of the time?  My laptop is 4 feet away from the router and the router is on top of a card board box being elevated away from interference.  The prior router was a dlink 855 that went whacky after 3 years.  I believe I was usually at 270 Mbps with that.  What gives?  Do I have a faulty router?  With this new router, I expected the range to be a lot farther and faster too, but it is not in my family room.  2nd floor router, family room is 1st floor about 50 feet away and I get 1Mbps - 5Mbps.    Everything is set to Auto on router and IP6 is disabled on laptop.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Set Up Two E4200 To Improve Signal Strength?

Sep 24, 2012

Currently I'm using one e4200 (v1) as my main router in the house. The wireless coverage downstairs is perfect, but upstairs the signal is weak. To improve this I thought about adding the WAP610N as an access point to my network. But this device gets quite some negative reviews ... Thus I was thinking why not add another e4200 (v2) to my network? The price difference is not that big, especially compared to other simultaneous dual band access points. So my question is, would following scenario work?

- first e4200, connected to my ISP, acting as a router, using both the 2.4 as 5 ghz band (basically my current situation)

- second e4200, connected (via UTP cable) to the first e4200, in bridge mode

- second e4200 also using both 2.4 and 5 ghz band, using the same SSID, security etc but a different channel

So when moving a laptop for example from downstairs to upstairs, automatically the router/access point with the strongest signal would be used.
