U just bought a new E4200 router to enjoy 5ghz band for the first time.I noticed the range at my house of the 5gh is smaller than 2.4 is that right?one of my pc is having trouble keep connected to the 5ghz signal or the router doenst respond to it, is there a way to improve that signal?
View 2 RepliesI recently bought a Linksys WAG160N v2 model to replace my old setup of a Linksys WRT54GL + ASUS AM604g (ADSL2+ Modem) i had.I've set it up to dial my ISP's PPPoE connection as i had on the previous setup exactly, And it seemed to work at first.But now i've randomly noticed the connection just dies - the router doesn't respond to wireless at all anymore, and connecting from a wired machine shows the PPPoE link died, while the log says something along the lines of "PPPoE connection terminated: transport endpoint not connected" followed by a big number with lots of zeros and :'s. Probably some kind of IPv6 error address? note that i am not using IPv6 myself nor does my ISP provide any such addresses.
I've already upgraded the firmware to latest and installed the newest WiFi drivers on the machine i was connecting from wirelessly (has an Intel Wifi Link AGN5300 module).
I am using the E2500 with the Wireless N-pci adapter with dual band, both with the latest drivers / firmware, and I am getting extremely low signal quality and connection speed when connecting to the 5 Ghz network.My computer is no more than 15 feet away from the router, and on the same level. I also verified the connection with the 2.4 Ghz band, and it reads as excellent, and with 54 mps. Using 5 Ghz I get one bar of signal quality (very poor) and no more than 13 mps connection speed.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI ended up with an RMA for a new E4200 ver. 1 and the problem I have still persists. My 2 GHZ WAP gets 65Mbp/s to its connected devices. However, the 5.4 GHZ WAP gets 48 to 54 Mbp/s only.My laptops have Windows 7 and Ubuntu. The WiFi cards are Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 and 6230. Both fluctuate at 48 - 54Mb/s on the the 5.4GHZ channel.
If I put it on Wireless-N only, the laptops cannot connect. I have tried AUTO detection for mhz and channels. I have tried 40mhz with channels 149 and 161 with no difference.Currently, I am operating both WAPs on different SSIDs to make sure my results are separate.Security for both WAPs is WPA2-Personal with a 10 digit sequence.
I had a e4200,and i used 5ghz wireless.i can't set it to channel 149 or other high channel,my old wireless ethernet card can only support that.make the next version of the firmware can setting 5ghz channel to channel 149、153、157、161.

Why I cannot go to the 5Ghz band to utilize the superior speeds to transfer files over wireless connection between my computers? I am sure that I am still on the default 2.4 Ghz because
1) The file transfer speeds are pathetic
2) In Wireless Security, if I set the Wireless Mode to disabled for the 2.4Ghz band, Windows shows me "Unsecured Network" even with 2.4Ghz disabled.
I bought an e4200 about 2 months ago. It worked perfectly for 3 weeks. Then all of the sudden, the 5ghz connection started dropping. Then it's disappeared completely and it would not show up in a network search. Then the 2.4 ghz started going crazy. I reset it completely, that didn't work. I let it sit for half a day, nothing. I sent it back to newegg and got a replacement. When the 2nd one came in, it worked fine until the next day. 5ghz cut out. I called linksys support and they were no luck. I reflashed to 1001 firmware and it mysteriously came back to normal. It was working perfect until today. 3 weeks later. 5ghz went out, and never came back. I reflashed 1001, nothing. Reset, nothing. Flashed the new 1002 firmware, nothing. 2.4ghz still kind of works, but the speed is barely 5mbps. I'm at a freaking loss right now. This was the best performing router I have tried, of all the top models available right now
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my in-laws network from a WRT54G to a E4200. It's working but I'm getting issues with the 5Ghz end. I've got both SSIDs using different names.. so its clear which I'm connecting to. I have a macbook pro which has N support and can see the 5GHz SSID.The issue I get is that when I connect to the 5Ghz SSID, the laptop cannot ping or connect to LAN clients on the 2.4GHz end. This includes SMB shares, a couple of devices with web interfaces and one machine running a VNC server. There is also issues with Internet access.. but only sometimes.
Say I have two terminals open.. one pinging Google and the other pinging one of the 2.4Ghz clients. If I connect to the 2.4Ghz SSID, I get both pings working fine. If I switch to the 5GHz SSID, the macbook gets its IP address but then the Google ping will work but the internal ping just keeps failing. The Internet issue.. looking back on the above example.. sometimes the Google ping will also fail. The mac also sometimes indicates that there is no Internet connection behind the wireless connection when this happens.
When I connect on the 5Ghz SSID, I get my LAN IP address from the router (ifconfig). I can also see the /etc / resolve.conf correctly populated on the macbook with thge gateway and DNS settings.For now, I'm just going to get them to only use the 2.4Ghz SSID and assume that a later release of the softeware will fix things.. it could be a compliance issue on the Apple/Cisco N support.
I setup my E4200 v2 with different SSID's for 2.4 and 5GHz modes. I have no problem with a 2.4 Ghz connection on my laptop, but I cannot connect to the internet in 5GHz. mode. I choose the 5 GHz SSID and enter the passphrase but no luck, even though I have a full 4 bars inthe wireless icon.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an e4200 set up using a trendnet TEW-684ub. Connection on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz seems fine, but when the 5Ghz network is under load, such as running speedtest, the network drops for a second. This does not appear to happen on the 2.4Ghz network.
2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks are set to Auto width and channel using WPA2 and I've tried raising the router up a bit to increase airflow to try to eliminate overheating as a possible issue. I'm also running the latest firmware...1.0.0.3, I believe.
My network is discoverable, but my machines will not connect (they were connected previously). They can connect to the 2.4gHz network, but not the 5 (I use the 5 for streaming media and gameplay). Windows 7 says it's unable to connect.
View 8 Replies View RelatedRoku tech support confirms the new Roku2 XS has a 5GHz (as well as 2.4GHz, or course) radio that supports n. I can connect no problem on 2.4GHz Mixed using WPA2 Personal, but not on 5GHz Mixed using WPA2. The Roku can't even see the SSID being broadcast. I don't have any other gear with a 5GHz radio to confirm the E4200 is actually broadcasting a 5GHz SSID.
View 3 Replies View Related2 days ago my e1000 died, so I went big and bought the e4200 (due to newness, its already loaded with Firmware 1.0.03 build 14) to aleviate my networking woes. I'm running into an issue where I'm utilizing both the 2.4Ghz bands and the 5Ghz band. My desktop as an AE1000, and I'm utilizing that on the 5Ghz band. Everything else in the house (Dell laptop, 2x iPhone 4 and an HP printer) are all connecting to the network wirelessly.
I have had 0 network issues with regards to my wired connections, or my 5Ghz connection. But my 2.4Ghz connection will continuously be unavailable. I have both bands set to brodcast, they have different names so my AE1000 can connect via 5Ghz band. Both yesterday evening, and this morning, my phones, laptop and printer cannot connect, and for the most part, the network doesn't show up on available networks. When it does show up, the devices can't connect.I'm proficient enough to do the general home networking, but I'm at a loss as to how to fix this, without a daily reboot of the router (which seems excessive and unwarranted for a 2 day old e4200 [or any router to be honest]).
I was quite excited about E4200 I got yesterday. Everything works perfect except front LED light start blinking a few hours later. Don't know why it happens in a sudden and non-stop. After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Now the LED light is continuously lit.

Connected at 450mbps at close range (maybe 6ft away) and got 223mbps transfer.It seems that recently my signal is much weaker. I'm around 6-8ft away from the router and I'm getting between 270-360mbps, which to me is poor given the short range.
InSSIDer says the RSSI is -50, while my other wireless N router (dual band) is -35 and is in the exact same location. I'm using the 5ghz radio only, and it is set to N, and I'm using channels 44 and 48. I checked the hidden advanced wireless page and transmit power is already set to high.
My laptop has an Intel 6300 wireless card.I'm using the current firmware 1.0.02. I've noticed that the speed of the router randomly seems to drop off too (just as I type this, the link rate has gone back up to 450mbps... typical). Is the router throttling when it gets hot or something? So I just want to find out if others are experiencing similar rates at the same kind of distance. Seriously, how can you advertise something as 450mbps when you can't even get that link rate at a distance as short as 6ft?
I can't see any thing I can do to increase the link speed (back down to 270mbps now), short of a firmware update to increase the power and use higher channels. I hear the higher channels are much better, so who do I have to write to, to plead for new firmware?This is a great product, but it's totally ruined by stupid internal antennas and a weak transmit power. Maybe if we make a noise about the not so maximum performance, they might address it.
How far should the signal of the E4200 stretch? I am noticing some serious issues with signal strength on the far side of my house. I was under the impression that the E4200 was able to stretch much further distances than most N routers. Is there a setting i can adjust to increase the range?
View 9 Replies View RelatedCurrently I'm using one e4200 (v1) as my main router in the house. The wireless coverage downstairs is perfect, but upstairs the signal is weak. To improve this I thought about adding the WAP610N as an access point to my network. But this device gets quite some negative reviews ... Thus I was thinking why not add another e4200 (v2) to my network? The price difference is not that big, especially compared to other simultaneous dual band access points. So my question is, would following scenario work?
- first e4200, connected to my ISP, acting as a router, using both the 2.4 as 5 ghz band (basically my current situation)
- second e4200, connected (via UTP cable) to the first e4200, in bridge mode
- second e4200 also using both 2.4 and 5 ghz band, using the same SSID, security etc but a different channel
So when moving a laptop for example from downstairs to upstairs, automatically the router/access point with the strongest signal would be used.
I have the e4200, well, I have had 2 e4200s and they both have had the same issue.I set up my e4200 manually with wpa2 security and I was getting about -50db rssi at my recieving device. Everything tested/worked fine and I went on with life.Without moving the router or anything else over the course of about 3 days the signal had dropped to -71dbm. I power cycled the router and it went back to -53dbm. I tried multiple channels and the same thing keeps happening.The same thing happened a few more times, I contacted tech support, but they just had me change channels.I took the router back for an exchange and the new one has done the same thing in LESS time!The router has the latest firmware and I keep it on an elevated plastic stand to prevent overheating.

I know its not the distance because i've got my laptop only 2 feet away. I've hit the refresh wireless network button, but the only network visible is my 5GHZ. I've also restarted the router, no luck
I went into the router settings and made sure that BOTH SSID'S are broadcasting a signal.and are enabled (ive got the channel and other settings set to auto). I'm able to connect perfectly well to the 5GH band, and walk around the house, but nothing i've done, allows me to see the 2.4GHZ band? So far, my wireless reception is poorer than my old wrt310n.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a two story house with a basement. Right now I have a Cisco Linksys E4200 router on the second floor in one of the bedrooms. I have a DLink GamerLouge 4500 in the basement. Both systems have the same SSID and are running on different channels. Computers connect to the appropriate one automatically. At least assuming that's what's happening.I am getting limited connectivity on the first floor in the kitchen and family room. Dining room, right by the second floor stairs is fine. All the bathrooms are dead zones. Note I have thick travertine tiles on the walls in the bathrooms so may inhibit signals. Trying to figure out the optimal solution for getting the house setup so everywhere has at least decent signals. I have alot of iPad and laptop devices floating around the house so wireless is key. Note I have wired plugs with Cat5e all over the house to a central hub in the basement which is where the DLink router sits. Thoughts on how to improve my signal strength? Especially in the farther reaching bedrooms and the first floor

With the normal settings i have a wireless range of maximum 10 m in the building. after 5m I've got a low signal.I tested a cheap Netgear-router, which had the same range as the E4200 a 125 Euro.Is my E4200 broke or is it just a bad buy? The settings are standard (that shouldn't be the problem, I guess!?)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed some wireless IP cameras and when attempting to re-install a camera I went into the DHCP Client table to verify which IP a camera was using to set it up, but I could not...and still cannot see any of my cameras in the table even though I can access three of them directly through the IE web browser. I initially power cycled both the E4200 router and Motorola cable modem, and then later just the wireless router...but I still do not see the devices connected. I currently have 2.0.37 firmware even though I was told by Cisco support that there was a later version available, just before being informed that I do not have support available and could purchase it. I attempted to locate a newer version, but the online upgrade portion of the Cisco Connect software searched the net and then states that I have the latest version available. I also opened a Firefox browser to see if maybe my browser was causing issues, but the same limited table appears without all entries available. I even opened the Cisco Connect software on another laptop with the same limited results. Other than a factory reset, get me E4200 dual band wireless router to show all attached devices through the DHCP Client table as it previously did approximately two weeks ago?

I have an E4200 and I can not get WoL to work over the internet.(I'm assuming it's not actually going out to the internet when I wirelessly wake it using shawn.dynamicservice.com and the subnet, but rather the DDNS name is being resolved through the ARP cache, but I don't know. I'm still learning) Consequently, if the sentence above in parenthesis is correct, I am unable to perform WoL from outside my LAN. What am I missing?
