Linksys Wireless Router :: Why Doesn't E4200 Wireless Router Show All Attached Devices
May 1, 2013
I recently installed some wireless IP cameras and when attempting to re-install a camera I went into the DHCP Client table to verify which IP a camera was using to set it up, but I could not...and still cannot see any of my cameras in the table even though I can access three of them directly through the IE web browser. I initially power cycled both the E4200 router and Motorola cable modem, and then later just the wireless router...but I still do not see the devices connected. I currently have 2.0.37 firmware even though I was told by Cisco support that there was a later version available, just before being informed that I do not have support available and could purchase it. I attempted to locate a newer version, but the online upgrade portion of the Cisco Connect software searched the net and then states that I have the latest version available. I also opened a Firefox browser to see if maybe my browser was causing issues, but the same limited table appears without all entries available. I even opened the Cisco Connect software on another laptop with the same limited results. Other than a factory reset, get me E4200 dual band wireless router to show all attached devices through the DHCP Client table as it previously did approximately two weeks ago?

I have installed my new E4200 and it works beautifully. I have several wirelss adapters and a few wired connections through powerline adapters. I also have a second VPN router attached to the 4200.I can see the wireless connected devices with the associated IP addresses. If I plug a laptop directly into the Cisco, I can of course see it.However, I can see none of the devices attatched to the powerline devices? I have a securty cam connected via the powerline and want to know the IP address. I checked with cisco technical support via chat and they said it is impossible. I have used 2 previous routers with the same configuration and can see all devices.

I'm thinking of upgrading from my Linksys WRT54G router to the E4200 and though I've goggled. Also, are there no LEDs on this unit to tell you the status of what's connected?

I've verified that the router and the pc have the same time zone, daylight savings update specification and that they both showed the same time (00:56AM). But a file created on the attached USB device was timestamped 01:56AM (the date was correct).Â

I'm loosing about 40GB of data. If worst comes to worst i might go with another brand of router instead as i don't wanna waste a lot of money again as i currently feel i have with the E4200. Enough whining, here is my problem. The FTP and Media Server feature works nicely. I have a 2TB USB 2.0 HDD attached to the router's USB port. I use it for images and my music collection ripped there so i can play it all from my PS3 and TV. I also have many GB of video recordings and converted DVD discs for easier access. (And no, before anyone speaks of piracy, it IS legal, at least in my country, to back up your legit media) Now, everything worked fine, until one day after a few weeks, the router hanged for some reason so i decided to reboot it. To my disappointment it also wiped video and audio from my HDD which really got me pissed as i lost all track of what i had on the HDD. The Media Server was also having connection issues once in a while so i decided to update the firmware from 1.0.00 to 1.0.03. It immediately fixed the connection issues of the Media Server. Another noticeable change is that files transferred via FTP will show immediately via the Media Server without the need to update the database via the router as i needed to do in 1.0.00. Now today there was a power loss in the neighbourhood so the router went dead along with the HDD. To my big disappointment, everything was gone from the HDD when i started it up again. Images, music, video and even my application backups etc. It was just plain empty except for the root folders. I have done a few tests and figured that even if the HDD stays on, cutting the power to the router will wipe the connected HDD. What's up with that? Even a silly Windows PC wont nuke your files that much if an accessed HDD was disconnected while in use. Do i really need a UPS system for the router and safely disconnect the HDD from the router via the user interface every day? If so, the concept of having a router with these nice features is really useless and money theft in my opinion.

I have a linksys E3200. Today I got disconnected and when it reconnected it stated that the network was changed to just network and not my usual network name. I was having connection issues with the network disconnecting me and reconnecting me. I uninstalled the cisco connect software. I contacted support who told me to restart the router and modem, which I did. After reset I tried to reinstall the software. Cisco Connect likes to insist to do the installation wirelessly but my laptop can't find the router during installation to complete it. My router is essentially a glorified wire connecting my computer to my modem now.Â

We have a old Router and a new one(the Lynksys). The old one had problems with the Wifi so we bought this one. So when we connect This Router to the Modem it doesn't show connection to the internet. (The Setup fails because of this). But with the old one it does connect to the internet. So either my modem doesn't detect the new router or vice versa. So I am not sure why its not working since on the old one it works fine.

i am having an annoying issue with my wrt400n and my foscam FI8918W. in the dhcp reservation tab, the wrt400n doesn't show the foscam anywhere in the tab. it shows all laptops, cell phones, nases, etc. if i use the cisco connect software it does show it in the network map. i can probably add it manually via the gui. is this something normal or security cams not considered devices?

I have 2 Media Bridges, a Trendnet TEW-640MB and TrendNet TEW-680MB. Both are set as a Static IP on the devices 192.168.1.150 and 192.168.1.151.  In the DHCP table for my E4200 I don't see those. I have no problem accessing them typing in those IP addresses but wondering why they don't show up in the table.Actually looking at it more closely, the devices hooked up that are active seem to show up.So I see the following below. And where is list LAN but no name those seem to be devices connected to the media bridges.

I've used Netgear & other routers for years; I was able to see the devices connected over ethernet & wifi through the router configuration utility. Cisco's interface looks poor; there is no way to see the connected devices. Many of the devices I have have a 5 Ghz radio and some don't so i need to see at what speeds they are connecting at.Or does Cisco not provide this utility? I am surprised that a high-end product from Cisco does not have this function.

I have been using the E4200 for a few months now...and running access restrictions to cut down my kids internet hours.
Â
Everything was working fine until today. Â I changed my Access Restriction password....and then discovered that I cannot 'Add' another device. Â The button is completely grayed out. I have other computers running on the network that are not in the Access Restriction list...so I should be able to click on 'Add' and select a device....
Â
I can continue to edit the Access Restriction permissions for those devicescurrently in the list...but just cant Add any other device...

How can I get a E3000 or E4200 to manage more than 5 devices? Come on Cisco, lets get real. EVERYONE has more than 5 devices to manage. The average family of 4 has 3 or 4 computers, 4 smart phones and at least a couple of tablets and maybe some TV or game consoles. Setting access control policies is a must for anyone who is a parent.
Â
Any good router that has a reasonable set of access control features? I've always loved Cisco up to this point, but I'm frustrated by this significant limitation.

I have a E4200 router. Â The firmware version is 1.1.02. Â I am reluctant to upgrade; however, my iMAC is picking up the 5GHz broadcast setting, but the rest of my wireless devices only recognize my lower 2.4GHz setting. Â I have changed channels, my router address is changed because it conflicted with my Verizon DSL. Â I do not have FIOS. Â What can I do to fix this problem. Â I have an ipad, 2 iphones, 2 ipod touches, 2 laptops (PCs), an XBOX, and a PS3 that needs to connect to a higher broadcast. Â The connections are slow and at times get dropped.

All my wireless devices are 802.11n and none of them can pick up the 5 GHz band on my E4200 router.  I've tried all the different settings and channels on this band and still nothing.  The only device i have been able to pick up the 5 GHz band with is a Desktop PC with a  linksys AE1000 USB network adapter.  This is quite frustrating because I would like to put my blu-ray player and game systems on the 5 GHz band.  Laptop, PS3, XBOX 360, iPOD, and blue-ray player all can't pick up the 5 GHz band.  Either my unit is defective (which I don't think is the case or not even the USB adapter would be picking up the network) or there is something I am missing (which I have tried pretty much everything as far as I know with the settings, have two separate names for the band networks and have tried each individual channel under 5 GHz).  Also running current firmware version.

I was attempting to use my EA4200 in bridge mode but found out for some reason my devices weren't connecting to the internet. So I decided to try to access the router through the IP address of the router with no avail.  So I pull the router and plug it in normally and notice that it keeps flashing. So that already gives me an idea something is wrong. I go through the process of unplugging everything from the router, and plugging my PC directly into the LAN port 1 of the router then powering it up. On my network connection list it keeps trying to identify the network but keeps failing (keep in mind that the router still is flashing). So I decide to attempt a 10 second reset, then a 30 second, then a 30-30-30. All with no success. The router keeps flashing.Â
Â
Which gets me to the point where I am now... router flashing at me, and wondering if this now out of warrenty unit was a waste of money. I am noticing that a lot of people have had questions and issues with the E4200v2 which now concerns me, well hopefully this can be fixed.Â

I'm having a problem with Wake on Lan. Â (I'll bet you never guessed from the title, eh?). Â I have an E4200 and I can not get WoL to work over the internet.(I'm assuming it's not actually going out to the internet when I wirelessly wake it using shawn.dynamicservice.com and the subnet, but rather the DDNS name is being resolved through the ARP cache, but I don't know. Â I'm still learning) Consequently, if the sentence above in parenthesis is correct, I am unable to perform WoL from outside my LAN. Â What am I missing?

I've tried to cascade two Linksys routers, but It hasn't worked for me. The first one (which has cable-modem connection) is the brand new E4200, and the second one is the old WRT54GCv3.[code] However, the WRT54GCv3 doesn't get the IP address from the E4200's DHCP. I've also tried to connect them directly (without the PLC), even specifing an static IP on the second router, but I got the same results.I've to state I don't want to change the first router IP/gateway parameters because I have a web and game home server working with an static IP and I don't want to put it offline temporarily because of readjusting network parameters.

We have three brand new E4200 routers, all using the most current firmware (1.0.02). Â They are all in bridged mode, however when I attempt to enable the guest network on each of them, the config shows it as active, but it never shows up as visiible SSID. Â Â In previous posts, I've seen people saying that I need to do a complete hard reset of the router and re-enter all the configs again to get the guest network active. Â Is this true? Â I'd hate to think that I have to hard reset and reconfigure all three of these APs, just to get the guest network enabled.

I am setting up a new E4200 modem, and have not been able to use the wired connection. The Windows 7 diagnositic on all three computers tells me "Local Area Connection, doesn't have a valid IP configuration."Model: E4200v1..I am using a new E4200 router, along with a new SE1500 5-port switch and a new SE2800 8-port switch.I am using a wired network that consists of two desktop computers, a laptop computer, a network printer, three Direct TV recorders, two Roku streaming video players, a BluRay player, and an XBox gaming console. Here is what I have done so far.
1- I can bypass the router to establish a direct wired connection to the cable modem. This works to access the internet. It establishes a new wired connection called Network 2.
2- I can access the internet using the wireless connection to the router. It shows a valid IPv4 address.
3- With all cables in place, all the lights are flashing on the router and on the computers.
4- I had changed cables and swapped cable ends.
5- Using the wireless connection, I can access the router home page (192.168.1.1). It shows valid IP addresses.
The problem is that my old Linksys BEFSR81 stopped working, with the same eror message for the LAN connection, "Local Area Connection, doesn't have a valid IP configuration."How often does the WAN port go bad? On both a five-year old BEFSR81, and a brand new E4200?

One of the many things that I liked about the e4200 over my olg 54GL was the fact that I could reboot it remotely. Â However, I've recently had a few problems that only a full power down would fix. Â In addition, I've noticed that the DCHP client table doesn't reset when I do a soft reboot. Â Is this intentional? Â Is the soft reboot not really a full reboot? Can it be made a real reboot?
