Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Doesn't Connect To Internet Through Bridge
Jul 11, 2012
Im trying to bridge my zyxel eq660r-f1 dsl modem so that i can resolve the nat issue im having in my home network. Only problem is that everytime I bridge the modem and hook my E4200 up, I cannot connect to the internet. If i connect my laptop directly to the modem, I do get internet but not through the router itself.

I have a Motorola Docis Surfboard model Model SB6120 and can connect to the internet with the ethernet cable directly onto the labtop but if I connect it to the E4200 router the range is there but the internet connection is not. This happened 2 days ago and can't get the router to work.

We have three brand new E4200 routers, all using the most current firmware (1.0.02). They are all in bridged mode, however when I attempt to enable the guest network on each of them, the config shows it as active, but it never shows up as visiible SSID. In previous posts, I've seen people saying that I need to do a complete hard reset of the router and re-enter all the configs again to get the guest network active. Is this true? I'd hate to think that I have to hard reset and reconfigure all three of these APs, just to get the guest network enabled.

I'm having a problem with Wake on Lan. (I'll bet you never guessed from the title, eh?). I have an E4200 and I can not get WoL to work over the internet.(I'm assuming it's not actually going out to the internet when I wirelessly wake it using shawn.dynamicservice.com and the subnet, but rather the DDNS name is being resolved through the ARP cache, but I don't know. I'm still learning) Consequently, if the sentence above in parenthesis is correct, I am unable to perform WoL from outside my LAN. What am I missing?

I have a E4200 with 1.0.04 firmware that I've used for a while as a router in front of a cable modem. I have upgraded the modem to a Virgin Media SuperHub. I have connected my E4200's WAN port to one of the SuperHub's LAN ports and changed the E4200's mode to Bridged Mode.I can connect to the Internet wirelessly and wired on the SuperHub, but I can only connect to the Internet via the E4200 if I'm wired to it. The wireless will connect to the E4200, it gets allocated and IP address in the correct range and the gateway is shown as the SuperHub's IP address, and I can see the E4200's management website via wireless, but I cannot connect to anything beyond the E4200.

As I understand, the latest FW for the E4200 makes it possible to put he router into bridge mode. In this mode, I can use it as an access point. In bridge mode, should I then connect my router to the WAN port at the E4200?The other way to make the E4200 into an AP, is to disable DHCP and NAT and give the E4200 an IP address out of range for the DHCP range in my preferred router.
Choosing between this two option to make the E4200 into an AP, which is considered to be the best solution? And to be sure; using this option, then the Ethernet cable should be connected to the LAN port of the E4200? is the performance of an E4200 in AP mode the same as a dedicated AP like the WAP610N?

Just bought 2 e4200's! I have the first one connected to the ATT router, and I have the second one connected to the first in Bridge Mode. It works great! It knew how to configure itself to be the down-level client.
However, I noticed that the port speed is only 100 Mbps on the port that is acting as the link for the bridge. I am running brand-new CAT5e thru the house, and if I connect the cable directly to my laptop - I get 1Gbps. So I know that the cable is good.
Is there a way to change the speed of the INET port on the down-level e4200?

My e4200 v2 arrived today to replace my v1. I installed it along with a re1000 range expander for our big home. Works pretty well now, but did some google searching and it seems i could make my original e4200 into a bridge, would this be the way to go for max wifi? I could run a cat 6 cable upstairs along the outside of the home fairly easily.

I recently changed my internet connection to DSL from Cable, so now I'm using PPPoE type of connection.
Right now my router is configured as Automatic DHCP with the modem doing the PPPoE connection. All is fine and well.
Since I own a PS3, and Nat Type 3 conection is really bad for my online gaming, I would like to bridge my modem and connect to the internet through my router. That way I can properly forward my ports, use QoS and effectively get a better connection on the PS3.
I was able to successfully bridge the modem, but the PPPoE config on the router isn't able to connect to the internet.
Modem and router have been reinitialized after the configurations were changed. I do have the username and passwords, and they were properly put on the router.

Restarting the e4200 did not work. Resetting using the switch at the back did not resolve the issue. I was able to reset it via the 192.168.1.1 web page. After restoring my settings from backup, the issue remained the same. This was not alleviated after I updated the firmware. Plugging into one of the ports with a cat5 cable with my Mac, I was able to get an IP, yet I was not able to surf; same case with my MacBook.
Doing the 30-30-30 reboot did not fix this issue and all the while the front white light on the router went and stayed, solid. To see if I could get this to do ANY sort of meaningful internetting (is that even a word?) I put the e4200 in bridge mode and when I put the cable modem in, and all that plugs into this router works. This, of course, means that there is:
1. No Wifi signal and
2. It will not reset to factory settings.

I'm using the E4200 in Bridge mode and it's handing out IPs from our DHCP server (not acting as it's own). I have about 8 people connecting to this wirelessly to get to our network. For some reason it locked up once every week or two and I have to unplug it (can't even remote into it).

I have four E4200 units on my network, each with an unique IP address, in bridge mode to act as a wireless mesh across my entire building. They are all connected to my central L3 switch, via their Internet ports.
Is it possible to enable the Guest network on each unit, to create a 'Guest Wifi' mesh (providing that I allow the 192.168.33.0 network to route across my network fabric), or will this not work because each indivudual AP will be assigning IP address 192.168.33.1 as it's gateway address meaning that I would have four distinct MAC addresses within the network, each trying to claim that they are IP 192.168.33.1?

I have both WAG320N and E4200, they are currently linked (wired) together as a bridge (it is not ideal or necessary, but lets move pass this point) and is working fine. But I'd like to place the E4200 on a floor above (which cabling is not an option) and is wondering how the two units can be bridged wirelessly while status quo on everything else.

I have a Fiber to Ethernet connector from my ISP. The Ethernet cable goes to an iSP issued Zyxel router. Into this router the landline phoneservice connects to give us VoIP landline service (which is cheaper). An Ethernet cable goes from the Internet port on the E4200 to a LAN port on the Zyxel router. That works great but I had to put the E4200 into Bridge Mode to get it to connect to the Internet via the Zyxel router which I need to use the phone services my ISP provides. I bought the E4200 because I wanted to use the dualband functionally and get a 802.11N 5GHz network setup and to give me the ability to block certian websites and services which I knew Cisco/Linksys is famous for - the abillity to control your network.
Well then imagine my surprise when I could not use the Parental Control settings when the router is in Bridge Mode... This was the reason I bought this router over an Apple Airport Exreme. Is there anyway to get it to let me use the Parental Control anyway while in Bridge Mode or a better way for me to connect the router with the rest of my network?

I basically plugged it into my Verizon Fios router and downloaded the Cisco Connect application (since I have a macbook air which has no CD drive)
It sets up fine, I change my router name.... BUT at the end it says there is an issue of some sort. The Cisco Connect application reloads saying "repairing connection" but then does not repair it.
Not sure where to go from here. I also logged in to 192.168.1.1 but of course I do not know where to go from here. I also reset the router trying to start from new, but no dice.

I recently bought a Cisco E2500 for work, and after setting the router to Bridge Mode, I am unable to access the router web interface. I tried both the old IP address (192.168.1.1) and the IP address that I entered when I was configuring Bridge mode, but I couldn't get either to work. I have always tried resetting the switch to factory defaults and trying again to make sure I didn't type anything wrong, but to no avail. The wireless and everything works as it should, I just can't get back into the router to change any of my settings.

I have spent most of the weekend trying to get this router to act as a proper Access Point.
When it does work (Stay connected) speeds and latency are rotten. If I go back to Routing Mode this thing kicks butt, but I isolate all devices attached to a different subnet and trying to set up proper routes has proved imposable. Firmware 1.0.2 r 13
The online help stated to connect to the "internet interface" when in Bridge Mode DHCP Server Is not broadcasting to on the wireless or wired interfaces.
If I used the wired interface as the uplink I can broadcast the DHCP to any device on wired but again nothing to the Wireless. When I "Show Routing Table" I see two static routes pointing to the ATT router for the Wired/Wireless Interfaces.. 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 (my Gateway) Wired/Wireless (my Gateway) 255.255.255.0 0.0.0. Wired/Wireless
AP mode should only be working in Broadcast. By connecting the Wired Interfaces alone up to my switched network should not use the router at all. If you force all traffic to my router all traffic has to be inspected by the firewall You create a bottleneck my router interface is 10/100.
ATT 2 Wire Gateway/Router with pinholes. 10/100/1000 Non managed 24 port Switch Network. Server infrastructure serving DNS/DHCP.
I decided to buy this after reading it offered Bridge/Access Point mode instead of getting the WAP610 because I wanted to have the option to change to routing mode or AP mode. Since my ATT Uverse Router Wireless is “g” it takes forever to transfer files to and from my servers.

I purchased a WAG320N and E4200 and have manged to get the modem connected to the internet and it's running fine in that respect, with no adjusting done to the settings. My intentions are to connect the WAG320N to the E4200 wirelessly, as they are in seperate rooms in the house and have done a similar setup in the past with a 7300G Billion Modem and WRT54GL.
With the E4200 I quickly discovered there was no bridge mode out of the box, but checking these forums got the indication that the firmware updates added this capability, so updated it..I entered the IP Address of the Router, the Subnet mask of the network and the Default Gateway / Modem router IP address into the fields, following this guide, but have not been able to get the computers to contact one another, nor ping the other devices.

I have put two different e4200 routers in my network and both of them have the same issue. I believe there are some major firmware bugs with this router. First of all I set up everything using the web interface. My laptops could connect to the network and internet but any of my devices that use wireless bridges (WET610N) to connect could only get local network access. They could not connect to the internet. After some troubleshooting I found the reason it was not working properly. I used DHCP reservations in my network because of port forwarding and such. Well when the devices connected to the bridges were in the reservation list they were unable to connect to the internet. After I removed them they now are able to get on the internet without a problem. So that is the first problem I've found so far...
The second is I can no longer connect from my Xbox 360 to my Media Center PC. I tried to set up a new connection but this did not work either.

I am trying to determine the best way to setup my E4200 V2 so that it is “uplinked” correctly to a Comcast Dory Modem/router. Currently we have the E4200 V2 router plugged into the Comcast Dory Modem/Router using a CAT6 cable from one of the Ethernet ports on the Comcast device to the WAN port on the E4200. The E4200 is set to “Automatic Configuration - DHCP.”
We are trying to do two things. First better WIFI in the center of the house and for a TV located next to the Comcast device, and second, have all devices in this house see and access all other devices including the Samsung SmartTV, my son’s two systems upstairs, the 3 systems in the room with the E4200, and the one network printer. In the room with the E4200 we have 3 computers and one network printer. 3 of those 4 devices support WIFI so we don’t have to use all 4 Ethernet ports on the E4200.
I see others talking about running the CAT6 cable to an Ethernet port on the E4200 instead of the WAN port and setting it to “Bridge Mode.” Right now the system appears to be working fine although we are sometimes experiencing brief dropped connections with the devices hardwired into the E4200.
Should I be running the E4200 in “Bridge” mode or “Automatic DHCP” mode and which port on E4200 should the CAT6 from Comcast be plugged into?

I have a WAG320N working successfully on an ADSL line. I now have an E4200 that I want to link to it. I have it currently set up with the WAG320N using IP range 192.168.1.1 and the E4200 using 192.168.2.1.The E4200 is setup using the default - Automatic Configuration - DHCP and the internet port is connected to port 1 on the WAG320N. The E4200 links to the WAG320N successfully and picks up the correct external DNS addresses.I want to split the wireless network with the WAG320N providing the 2.4Ghz and the E4200 providing the 5Ghz.

If i do a speed check using CNET internet speed test, from both a desktop (wired 1gb card) and any laptop in the house (all draft n 2.4 or 5.0), it ranges anywhere from 3 meg to 4.3 meg. My WRT54G2 v1 does not automatically connect to the internet on computer start-up. The computer will say "Connected, No Internet Access" In order to fix it I have to unplug the router and then plug it back in. This happens to any computer that tries to get online from a cold start-up. The router must always be unplugged, then plugged back in, then it will have internet access (and will generally maintain it throughout the session and even if the computer is restarted, i.e. warm boot). I have downloaded the latest firmware uprade.

I've tried to cascade two Linksys routers, but It hasn't worked for me. The first one (which has cable-modem connection) is the brand new E4200, and the second one is the old WRT54GCv3.[code] However, the WRT54GCv3 doesn't get the IP address from the E4200's DHCP. I've also tried to connect them directly (without the PLC), even specifing an static IP on the second router, but I got the same results.I've to state I don't want to change the first router IP/gateway parameters because I have a web and game home server working with an static IP and I don't want to put it offline temporarily because of readjusting network parameters.
