I've verified that the router and the pc have the same time zone, daylight savings update specification and that they both showed the same time (00:56AM). But a file created on the attached USB device was timestamped 01:56AM (the date was correct).
View 9 RepliesI'm loosing about 40GB of data. If worst comes to worst i might go with another brand of router instead as i don't wanna waste a lot of money again as i currently feel i have with the E4200. Enough whining, here is my problem. The FTP and Media Server feature works nicely. I have a 2TB USB 2.0 HDD attached to the router's USB port. I use it for images and my music collection ripped there so i can play it all from my PS3 and TV. I also have many GB of video recordings and converted DVD discs for easier access. (And no, before anyone speaks of piracy, it IS legal, at least in my country, to back up your legit media) Now, everything worked fine, until one day after a few weeks, the router hanged for some reason so i decided to reboot it. To my disappointment it also wiped video and audio from my HDD which really got me pissed as i lost all track of what i had on the HDD. The Media Server was also having connection issues once in a while so i decided to update the firmware from 1.0.00 to 1.0.03. It immediately fixed the connection issues of the Media Server. Another noticeable change is that files transferred via FTP will show immediately via the Media Server without the need to update the database via the router as i needed to do in 1.0.00. Now today there was a power loss in the neighbourhood so the router went dead along with the HDD. To my big disappointment, everything was gone from the HDD when i started it up again. Images, music, video and even my application backups etc. It was just plain empty except for the root folders. I have done a few tests and figured that even if the HDD stays on, cutting the power to the router will wipe the connected HDD. What's up with that? Even a silly Windows PC wont nuke your files that much if an accessed HDD was disconnected while in use. Do i really need a UPS system for the router and safely disconnect the HDD from the router via the user interface every day? If so, the concept of having a router with these nice features is really useless and money theft in my opinion.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed some wireless IP cameras and when attempting to re-install a camera I went into the DHCP Client table to verify which IP a camera was using to set it up, but I could not...and still cannot see any of my cameras in the table even though I can access three of them directly through the IE web browser. I initially power cycled both the E4200 router and Motorola cable modem, and then later just the wireless router...but I still do not see the devices connected. I currently have 2.0.37 firmware even though I was told by Cisco support that there was a later version available, just before being informed that I do not have support available and could purchase it. I attempted to locate a newer version, but the online upgrade portion of the Cisco Connect software searched the net and then states that I have the latest version available. I also opened a Firefox browser to see if maybe my browser was causing issues, but the same limited table appears without all entries available. I even opened the Cisco Connect software on another laptop with the same limited results. Other than a factory reset, get me E4200 dual band wireless router to show all attached devices through the DHCP Client table as it previously did approximately two weeks ago?

I also have a second VPN router attached to the 4200.I can see the wireless connected devices with the associated IP addresses. If I plug a laptop directly into the Cisco, I can of course see it.However, I can see none of the devices attatched to the powerline devices? I have a securty cam connected via the powerline and want to know the IP address. I checked with cisco technical support via chat and they said it is impossible. I have used 2 previous routers with the same configuration and can see all devices.

A few days ago, when I turned on my computer, I could not connect to the internet. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but I am denied every time; the message I get is "A device attached to the system is not functioning".I've tried connecting to the internet with my other wireless box I used prior to getting the AE2500 and I cannot connect with that, either. The only way I can connect on this computer is with an ethernet cable.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have an odd problem with the FTP server. I currently hooked up a 250GB portable HDD which is formatted in NTFS. A single folder in the root of the drive is mounted as the FTP server. Every time I upload a zip or far, the file comes out ends up being uploaded corrupt and double the original file size. I have used 2 FTP clients, using either ASCII or binary. No matter how I go about it, I can't make the files upload at the normal file size. Its not just archives, however, I tried an mp3 and it too got uploaded corrupt and double the size. I then downloaded the mp3 to try and play it but it didn't play in windows media player. However I loaded the 'corrupt mp3 into audacity and the file played like normal.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a Cisco E4200 to replace my D-LINK DIR-655, which I thought was defective because I was getting slow wirless file transfer speed, regardless of setting, location and client.Using the E4200, when I transfer a file from a PC to another, both connected at 300mb on the 2.4ghz band, the file transfer rate reported by windows 7 and networx is from 2MB/s to 3.5MB/s. I think those transfer rates are not acceptable. Is that a good assumption ? I would expect something in the range of 10MB/s (which is what I get with a cheap dlink router, wired)
I also had great difficulty finding a channel. I had to try them all one-by-one as the auto channel selection made my PCs connect at 130mb.The E4200 is setup as follows:
-WPA-Personal
-Channel 5
-802.11n only
I have tried 3 different computers with different network adapters and they all underperform (IMO..).There are no other wireless networks in my area.I also took the E4200 to my office which is very crowed. Every single channel is occupied by several wireless networks. I get a file transfer speed PC to PC of about 2MB.I basically could have kept my DIR-655 as the speeds are identical.

The only thing I did was review settings and get the Routers PIN (it appears that Intel Chipset cards on Windows requires this PIN?) Close the browser (did not save any settings) and now I am completely locked out of the device. Cannot connect does not accept the wireless password. I hard reset the device, ran through the wizard. Everything was working again. Launch the browser and connected to the device closing window and balm?

I can connect to the Media Server from my xbox and laptop for an hour or so, and then all of a sudden it is gone. The only option I have is to reboot the router to bring it back online however not all of the music and videos are shown on the media server (yet).I uploaded quite a bit of music and video to the hard disk, I can initiate a scan but after a while the media server becomes unavailable / cannot connect to it.

I have attached a 320GB USB 5400 rpm hard drive to the router as NAS storage.The router is running 2.00.01 build 15 firmware. I get frequent drop-outs when transferring large files. Tonight I've been trying to transfer a 4.36GB file to the drive from my PC. I've tried several times. At exactly the same time, with about 377MB to transfer I get a message saying 'There is a problem accessing Z: make sure you are connected to the network and try again'.

One of the main reasons for purchasing this router was because of its Media Server functionality. I wanted to be able to stream to my UPnP devices (ps3, xbox360, etc) without having to keep my power hog of a PC running. I have set up the HD using the Storage tab of the Advanced Router Settings, and created several Shares on the Media Server tab. The good news is that I am able to access the share on my PS3. The bad news is that I can't on my Xbox360s. As the Xbox360s has built in wireless N, I would really like to be able to stream to that system.

However, when I come in through the Internet via an iOS device, I can see folders but when I try to enter the folder, all I get is a message that displays "|Folder|Enter Into Folder|Select|. There is no click-through capability other than "Return to Upper Folder", which takes me back to folders.

I have three computers wired to it and their Host names (as specified in the set-up of each computer) show up in the router's DHCP device table. I also have two printers (one old Brother HL5250DN laser printer and one new HP Photosmart Premier C410a inkjet printer) connected and there are blanks where the Host name should go. I would like to be able to tell which printer is which when I am looking at the DHCP device table. How can I get a names associated with each printer's IP address in the router's DHCP device table? (The real problem is that the router seems to have both printers at the same IP address (192.168.1.100) and if I can get one of them to change I'd like to know which one it was!)

Yesterday when i tried to power it on after a couple of seconds the power led was solid green and the Ethernet leds were blinking with no Ethernet cable attached to the router . The ethernet leds would keep blinking for minutes . I tried to use a screwdriver to do a hardware reset ( with power on ) and i noticed that the power led would start blinking green/red for minutes . I tried to use another wired router which i have for backup and it could connect to the internet normally without a problem.
What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a cisco EA3500 router for my home network and i am pretty surprised to see that a router from the world leader in the networking domain cannot perform as expected.
The first problem i had was that the network (wired and wireless) was dropping from time to time for a couple of minutes with the power led of the router blinking. I turned off the log feature of the router and it seems that until now the problem is resolved.
Now, the second and, at least as annoying as the first, is that i have a 640gb usb hdd connected to the router, formatted NTFS. It seems that every now and then a file gets corrupted, that is, it is transformed into a folder! And it cannot be recovered without pulling out the hdd and using a 3rd parth software for file recovery.
I have the latest firmware. Should i switch back to the classic firmware instead of the "fancy" new one? I really need my files on that drive, so i cannot risk loosing them in this random manner.
I have a series of problems I think are due to my 310N. First, with Facebook, I will suddenly be redirected to a248.e.akamai.net., which Chrome flags as an SSL error. Second, with (and only with) NYTimes.com, I will get "file not found" (and no numerical error) when trying to retrieve an article (via Chrome). AND, again only with NYTimes.com, I will get high-bit ascii characters in headlines. For other sites, I will get "invalid url" messages on web pages. If I unplug the modem and let it rest for 30 seconds, that seems to solve the problem. I have to do this at least once a day.
More than once a day. I don't think it's a 310N problem; but I've asked about this on other forums and got no useful reply. Previously I had similar problems with my 160 router. So, it's not the router. HOWEVER, shutting it off works with lot of the problems. Right now, after shutting off the router and turning it back on, now Facebook just doesn't come up at all. No error, just don't come up. I can ping it.
My router just updated to Firmware version: 1.0.04 build 6Operating system: Windows 7 SP 1Software version: 1.3.11006.1Now I can no longer see my network on my Bluray DVD player or other sharing devices. My file sharing worked before this update.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy XBOX started complaining when I began using Windows Media Center to stream videos from my PC to my XBOX. I found out that I had a wireless G router provided by verizon which wasn't fast enough to stream videos. SO, I went out and purchased a 4500EA router expecting it to be the fastest thing I had ever seen.
Now it seems a bit slow when trying to stream video from my laptop to the XBOX and i'm a tad bit confused as to why. So I did a file transfer from a desktop wired directly to the router from a laptop in the same room wirelessly connected to the network and my speed is about 4mbps. 4MBPS!? This device is supposed to be capable of moving packets LAN side at 450MBPS.
Both of my PC's are quad core, newer model PCs. I've tried moving files now for several hours with the same results. I've toyed around with my wireless adapters, changed power settings, full duplex, half, changed mtu sizes, changed security settings. I'm out of ideas.
Is getting about 1% of the advertised bandwidth normal?

Now the download link for E4200v2 CCC is available, but gives you an empty zip file (0 bytes). Quality Control is an unknown word at Cisco.

I just bought a Cisco-Linksys router E2500. Installation went fine, Internet is ok...
Just a small issue when I'm trying to upload a file to a distant FTP server. Any file < 1KB is fine but when the file is larger than 1KB, I can't upload it anymore (it just doesn't complete the upload).
I tried passive/active mode for my FTP connection.
I tried port forwarding.
Now I deactivated the router firewall and I put myself in the DMZ.
I also tried to upgrade the router's firmware to the latest official version, and to the DD-WRIT latest version.
But still I can't upload files larger than 1KB. With my previous router, it was working pretty fine.
The ultimate test was to connect myself on a VPN server and try to upload the file to the FTP through the VPN server. And it worked!!!
But I don't want to be always connected to a VPN when I want to transfer files to my FTP server...
I was using a wrt54gh which is no longer in working condition.. so i bought an E1200.the problem i face is when i try to restore my new router which is the E1200 frm the backup file frm my previous router the wrt54gh which is saved in my computer i get the error message " THE IMAGE FILE IS INCORRECT ".
