I have an e4200 and every once in a while a few files on my USB Hard Drive will change to an empty folder. What do I do to change the file back to its original format and what do I do to keep this from happening again later? I have photos that are not replaceable and do not want to lose them?

my router is: Cisco E4200
I have an odd problem with the FTP server. I currently hooked up a 250GB portable HDD which is formatted in NTFS. A single folder in the root of the drive is mounted as the FTP server. Every time I upload a zip or far, the file comes out ends up being uploaded corrupt and double the original file size. I have used 2 FTP clients, using either ASCII or binary. No matter how I go about it, I can't make the files upload at the normal file size. Its not just archives, however, I tried an mp3 and it too got uploaded corrupt and double the size. I then downloaded the mp3 to try and play it but it didn't play in windows media player. However I loaded the 'corrupt mp3 into audacity and the file played like normal.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a Cisco E4200 to replace my D-LINK DIR-655, which I thought was defective because I was getting slow wirless file transfer speed, regardless of setting, location and client.Using the E4200, when I transfer a file from a PC to another, both connected at 300mb on the 2.4ghz band, the file transfer rate reported by windows 7 and networx is from 2MB/s to 3.5MB/s. I think those transfer rates are not acceptable. Is that a good assumption ? I would expect something in the range of 10MB/s (which is what I get with a cheap dlink router, wired)
I also had great difficulty finding a channel. I had to try them all one-by-one as the auto channel selection made my PCs connect at 130mb.The E4200 is setup as follows:
-WPA-Personal
-Channel 5
-802.11n only
I have tried 3 different computers with different network adapters and they all underperform (IMO..).There are no other wireless networks in my area.I also took the E4200 to my office which is very crowed. Every single channel is occupied by several wireless networks. I get a file transfer speed PC to PC of about 2MB.I basically could have kept my DIR-655 as the speeds are identical.

And i REALLY wanna fix it by opening my nat. I've basically tried everything port forwarding but when you save it when port forwarding, it doesn't save like it look's like on the video's i have seen on YouTube.I've done that DMZ thing which also didn't work.I've basically done everything on YouTube and other site's.I'm just wondering if it's just the router. Or just the way i have it all setup because my router is setup in a different room with the computer which is hooked up with the modem and my ps3 is in my room which is a different room and is just connected threw WiFi my connection on the ps3 is wireless obviously.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys E3200 and it is connected to the internet by Ethernet cable. Like that is what my ISP gave me. No DSL line or anything like that, just straight up Ethernet cable. I went from having slow internet and connecting to everyone to fast internet and cannot connect to anyone, only when someone that has a open NAT to host it for me even to connect. I have tried DMZ, port forwarding, disabling UPnP and enabling it. Also I can't connect to any of my friends that have the same ISP as me.

Since I bought the EA4500 I been having the NAT problem.I bought it like 4-5 days ago. Before I had the E4200 and it was working fine on both consoles. Yesterday I did the Port Triggering and nothing changed, NAT type does not Open. One of the xbox sometimes has Open NAT Type and the other xbox Moderate NAT Type. View 9 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a Linksys WRT120N and have a couple of issues, one of them may force me to return it to the point of purchase.Once WPA2 is enabled, on the Wireless-Advanced Wireless Settings screen,, the Authentication Type (which was greyed out by default) changed from Auto to Open and remained greyed out. I want to change this back to Auto.The other issue is that on the Status screen, the IP addresses of the domain name servers (DNS) are incorrect. This screen displays the DNS server addresses sent by the ISP and are not displaying the DNS addresses that are hard coded on the main Setup screen - although if I run nslookup, the DNS server address displayed in the console window, is the one that is displayed on the Setup screen.
The more important of the two is the Authentication Type being Open and greyed out. If this is something that cannot be changed, then I will be forced to return this for credit as it was the last unit on the shelf. I had reset the router back to the factory defaults and reconfigured it again, but this did not resolve either issue. I'm tempted to think that both issues may be the result of defective firmware, which shows version 1.0.06.
So currently I'm having issues with changing my nat type to open for my ps3. I've tried to use DMZ and port forwarding to change the nat type, but sadly I couldn't get this to work. Most the guides on the forums are for xbox's which wouldn't work for a ps3. Any handy guide to change my nat type to open for my ps3?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an E1000 that is connected to my main computer via Ethernet and have found that it crashes almost every time I run a particular type of operation.I'm testing software and running PHP scripts that invoke cUrl to fetch data from a few different web services via SSL. I would say that at least every other time one of these operations begins, the router crashes -- I am unable to ping its internal IP and I have to power-cycle it to get back up and running.
I don't experience the crashes in any other context and I use the router all day long. I'm one release behind on firmware but the release notes on the most recent version don't suggest that upgrading would make any difference -- no mention of any bugs fixed, for example.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a very difficult time getting my WRT54GS to work with my Westell 6100 modem. I've been bouncing around gathering info, and what I've learned is that the goofy way CenturyLink tech support told me to hook up my old wired router (modem line into outgoing (LAN) router port) is because the Westell 6100 is a "smart modem/router". Therefore, when I run the Linksys setup CD, it sees the modem as a router, and won't properly configure. I've also learned that the Westell modem can be "dumbed down" into simply a modem by putting it into "bridge mode", which is where I'm at right now - trying to get it reset to factory defaults and resetting the connection type from PPPoE to Bridge. In the meantime, I also reset the WRT54GS to factory defaults, and now I've got another problem: the router will not allow me to set up encryption. The default setting is "Disabled", and when I click the down arrow and try to make any selection at all (preferred selection is WPA2 Personal), it reverts to Disabled. I've also tried to change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1 (and alternately to 192.168.1.253), so it won't conflict with the modem's IP, and it freezes up every time I try.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a cisco EA3500 router for my home network and i am pretty surprised to see that a router from the world leader in the networking domain cannot perform as expected.
The first problem i had was that the network (wired and wireless) was dropping from time to time for a couple of minutes with the power led of the router blinking. I turned off the log feature of the router and it seems that until now the problem is resolved.
Now, the second and, at least as annoying as the first, is that i have a 640gb usb hdd connected to the router, formatted NTFS. It seems that every now and then a file gets corrupted, that is, it is transformed into a folder! And it cannot be recovered without pulling out the hdd and using a 3rd parth software for file recovery.
I have the latest firmware. Should i switch back to the classic firmware instead of the "fancy" new one? I really need my files on that drive, so i cannot risk loosing them in this random manner.
I have a series of problems I think are due to my 310N. First, with Facebook, I will suddenly be redirected to a248.e.akamai.net., which Chrome flags as an SSL error. Second, with (and only with) NYTimes.com, I will get "file not found" (and no numerical error) when trying to retrieve an article (via Chrome). AND, again only with NYTimes.com, I will get high-bit ascii characters in headlines. For other sites, I will get "invalid url" messages on web pages. If I unplug the modem and let it rest for 30 seconds, that seems to solve the problem. I have to do this at least once a day.
More than once a day. I don't think it's a 310N problem; but I've asked about this on other forums and got no useful reply. Previously I had similar problems with my 160 router. So, it's not the router. HOWEVER, shutting it off works with lot of the problems. Right now, after shutting off the router and turning it back on, now Facebook just doesn't come up at all. No error, just don't come up. I can ping it.
My router just updated to Firmware version: 1.0.04 build 6Operating system: Windows 7 SP 1Software version: 1.3.11006.1Now I can no longer see my network on my Bluray DVD player or other sharing devices. My file sharing worked before this update.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy XBOX started complaining when I began using Windows Media Center to stream videos from my PC to my XBOX. I found out that I had a wireless G router provided by verizon which wasn't fast enough to stream videos. SO, I went out and purchased a 4500EA router expecting it to be the fastest thing I had ever seen.
Now it seems a bit slow when trying to stream video from my laptop to the XBOX and i'm a tad bit confused as to why. So I did a file transfer from a desktop wired directly to the router from a laptop in the same room wirelessly connected to the network and my speed is about 4mbps. 4MBPS!? This device is supposed to be capable of moving packets LAN side at 450MBPS.
Both of my PC's are quad core, newer model PCs. I've tried moving files now for several hours with the same results. I've toyed around with my wireless adapters, changed power settings, full duplex, half, changed mtu sizes, changed security settings. I'm out of ideas.
Is getting about 1% of the advertised bandwidth normal?
