NAT Type Randomly Alternating Between Open And Strict?
Mar 14, 2011So I use wireless internet because I don't have access to a phone jack in this room; therefore I can't use a ethernet connection.This is entirely random in nature and doesn't seem to be affected by anything I do (Disabling/Enabling firewall, forwarding the appropriate ports, creating a firewall exception and restarting modem/computer. It will be OPEN during a game, and then my wireless connection icon (signal bars) on the task tray will show a little yellow caution sign and then it will disconnect from the network, forcing me to open the list of available networks and reconnect. After this happens, my NAT will change to strict, and thus far I haven't been able to make it OPEN again. I'm at my wits ends here, nothing I do seems to have any effect at all on my NAT type.

Dec 29, 2011I have a WRT120N router.it goes alright in connection wise but for my ps3 my Nat type is strict which wont let me join in some of my mate's partie's or host a game. And i REALLY wanna fix it by opening my nat. I've basically tried everything port forwarding but when you save it when port forwarding, it doesn't save like it look's like on the video's i have seen on YouTube.I've done that DMZ thing which also didn't work.I've basically done everything on YouTube and other site's.I'm just wondering if it's just the router. Or just the way i have it all setup because my router is setup in a different room with the computer which is hooked up with the modem and my ps3 is in my room which is a different room and is just connected threw WiFi my connection on the ps3 is wireless obviously.

Oct 24, 2011I just purchased a Linksys WRT120N and have a couple of issues, one of them may force me to return it to the point of purchase.Once WPA2 is enabled, on the Wireless-Advanced Wireless Settings screen,, the Authentication Type (which was greyed out by default) changed from Auto to Open and remained greyed out. I want to change this back to Auto.The other issue is that on the Status screen, the IP addresses of the domain name servers (DNS) are incorrect. This screen displays the DNS server addresses sent by the ISP and are not displaying the DNS addresses that are hard coded on the main Setup screen - although if I run nslookup, the DNS server address displayed in the console window, is the one that is displayed on the Setup screen.
The more important of the two is the Authentication Type being Open and greyed out. If this is something that cannot be changed, then I will be forced to return this for credit as it was the last unit on the shelf. I had reset the router back to the factory defaults and reconfigured it again, but this did not resolve either issue. I'm tempted to think that both issues may be the result of defective firmware, which shows version 1.0.06.

Also when I try to open a single port the site says it times out. Opening single ports didn't work either. I've also tried to DMZ via the IP and the MAC address of my PC and still no luck.

Apr 1, 2012This problem is on a Cisco E1200 (FW: 1.0.03) and using a browser to modify the routers settings.I'm connected to the router from a wired connection, and I'm trying to turn off the encryption, and just have the router have the setting "disabled" as the selection for "Wireless Security".
However, it seems when I do this, the moment I press "Save" the router gets disconnected from my computer (the wired connection) and the only way to get reconnected is to run the Cisco Connect software from the computer that's hard wired to the router.
Once I get back to that screen in the routers settings, and try it again, the same thing happens.If I change anything else under the routers settings, the connection stays connected, but only when I change the wireless security settings to disabled I see this problem.
Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G / Setting Up E1200 As Extension To Existing Network?
Apr 20, 2012I have a WRT54G that has served us well for several years, but I needed a network connection in another part of the house, both wired for TV, and wireless for downstairs. So I ran an ethernet cable through the house and connected it to my new E1200. It's connected to Port 1, not the Internet port. The TV plugs into Port 2, and my Apple TV to port 3. So far so good, TV and Apple TV appear to work fine. Wireless is where I'm having problems, the wireless signals between the two routers appear on Wifi Analyzer I'm using. Both appear strong in signal for a second, then they disappear, then they appear again for a second, then they disappear. So the wifi's signals appear, then disappear and this cycle continues.
The WRT54G is setup with DHCP, channel 6.
IP Address: 192.168.1.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server: Enabled Start IP Address: 192.168.1.100 End IP Address: 192.168.1.149
The E1200 DHCP is disabled, channel 11, 20mhz.
Router IP Address: 192.168.1.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server: Disabled Start IP Address: 192.168.1.1 (DHCP disabled) End IP Address: 192.168.1.50 (DHCP is disabled)
I've tried both routers named the same, and then tried 2 different names. I've rebooted them as well after making changes.

Oct 23, 2012We are using Cisco router (1941W model) and our the WAN interface keeps going down randomly (sometimes happened twice within 1 hour, sometimes worked fine for 2-3 days before getting disconnected). After getting disconnected, if we unplug the cable that connects our router to the fiber terminal and then plug in back, everything works fine immediately.
We had asked our Internet Provider to come 3 times to check the network line, renew the fiber terminal and do some investigations, they said there should be no issue on their side. If it's true then there must be something wrong with the router.
We also enabled ip accounting on the router and saw very low rate of small packets coming to WAN interface.
During the downtime, LAN interface still worked fine.
Dell :: N5010 Wireless Randomly Disconnecting And Failing
May 28, 2013I've had a N5010 laptop from a few years without many problems, using Win7 60b. Just a few days ago the wireless connection started failing saying there is no network available and that "there was a problem", what I had to do is right click the icon on the task bar, select the troubleshooting option that windows offers to fix it automatically, and after a minute or so the wireless is activated and working again, but just for a while since it lasts about 3~20 minutes and the problem starts again.
Other devices (like phones or other laptops) don't have this problem, so it's not a router issue.I've tried updating windows, re-installing the official drivers, rebooting the system, etc. I've also discovered that ethernet connection is just not working, as if it weren't there. There is no device shown on the windows device manager for ethernet.

Nov 26, 2012It's plugged in via an Ethernet Cable from a Homeplug Adapter, since the modem is not in the same room as me. Basically, I've been having problems with the internet randomly disconnecting and for no reasons. There's some days where it'll go fine, no problems at all, other than a few things that always disconnects it, then there is days like today, where it keeps connecting every time I try to go to a webpage. I cannot seem to upload anything to the web (Youtube, Mediafire, etc.) without the internet disconnecting before it uploads. The only other problem that I've had constantly, even if it is working fine, is I cannot seem to do a video call on Skype or really use my webcam to broadcast online without my internet disconnecting. Also, when I play games via Steam such as TF2, Call Of Duty, etc., I have no problem with the internet at all, it works smoothly and never crashes when I play games. And the desktop is the only thing that ever has this problem. We have 1 other desktop, and 3 laptops (all connected wirelessly) and they do not disconnect from the internet at all. This has been going on for quite a while, and I'm still not certain on what is triggering it.

I am running Windows XP on a desktop computer with the most current service pack installed and I have a linksys wireless router installed in the computer. I know the router isn't linksys, I think it may be netgear. I have no way of connecting wired to the router. My bf's laptop running windows 7 is used wirelessly in the same room as my desktop and rarely has any problems connecting. I should mention that this problem also occurred on this computer while living in other locations and using different routers, but it was never this sporadic. It was best when used in conjunction with the linksys WRT54G router.
I realized today looking at the status of the wireless network connection that the network name and signal strength will disappear and reappear randomly, all while still saying I am connected and that I have sent and received packets, and sometimes randomly changing connection speed as well. Sometimes an alert bubble will pop up saying that my internet connection is connected and that I have excellent signal strength, with varying speeds, but the internet still doesn't work. Or sometimes it does work. How to access it.

Jul 16, 2011A couple of months ago my internet (Insight Broadband) began to randomly disconnect and reconnect, and recently it has become more frequent (every 5-10 minutes). I connect to my internet wirelessly through a linksys router. It's not my laptop because our desktop and xbox experience the same frequent disconnects and reconnects. I've tried the dns flush with no success. Ive also changed the wireless channel to 1 to prevent any interference. Also, our linksys router is about 4 years old, which could be the cause, but I'd like to eliminate all other possibilities first. And finally, every time i click diagnose connection I receive the error " Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding.
And just recently our internet has become very slow (youtube videos taking longer to buffer with many pauses). I eliminated the possibility of my router itself being at fault as when I plugged my xbox or laptop or desktop directly into the modem the same frequent disconnects and reconnects occurred.
