I have e4200 router set up with different SSIDs for 2.4ghz and 5ghz. My laptop (Lenovo x220 with Intel 6205 wireless adapter) can't see the 5ghz network. I've tried changing the channel for the 5ghz network and it didn't fix the problem.

View 8 Replies View Related2 days ago my e1000 died, so I went big and bought the e4200 (due to newness, its already loaded with Firmware 1.0.03 build 14) to aleviate my networking woes. I'm running into an issue where I'm utilizing both the 2.4Ghz bands and the 5Ghz band. My desktop as an AE1000, and I'm utilizing that on the 5Ghz band. Everything else in the house (Dell laptop, 2x iPhone 4 and an HP printer) are all connecting to the network wirelessly.
I have had 0 network issues with regards to my wired connections, or my 5Ghz connection. But my 2.4Ghz connection will continuously be unavailable. I have both bands set to brodcast, they have different names so my AE1000 can connect via 5Ghz band. Both yesterday evening, and this morning, my phones, laptop and printer cannot connect, and for the most part, the network doesn't show up on available networks. When it does show up, the devices can't connect.I'm proficient enough to do the general home networking, but I'm at a loss as to how to fix this, without a daily reboot of the router (which seems excessive and unwarranted for a 2 day old e4200 [or any router to be honest]).
I ended up with an RMA for a new E4200 ver. 1 and the problem I have still persists. My 2 GHZ WAP gets 65Mbp/s to its connected devices. However, the 5.4 GHZ WAP gets 48 to 54 Mbp/s only.My laptops have Windows 7 and Ubuntu. The WiFi cards are Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 and 6230. Both fluctuate at 48 - 54Mb/s on the the 5.4GHZ channel.
If I put it on Wireless-N only, the laptops cannot connect. I have tried AUTO detection for mhz and channels. I have tried 40mhz with channels 149 and 161 with no difference.Currently, I am operating both WAPs on different SSIDs to make sure my results are separate.Security for both WAPs is WPA2-Personal with a 10 digit sequence.
I had a e4200,and i used 5ghz wireless.i can't set it to channel 149 or other high channel,my old wireless ethernet card can only support that.make the next version of the firmware can setting 5ghz channel to channel 149、153、157、161.

Why I cannot go to the 5Ghz band to utilize the superior speeds to transfer files over wireless connection between my computers? I am sure that I am still on the default 2.4 Ghz because
1) The file transfer speeds are pathetic
2) In Wireless Security, if I set the Wireless Mode to disabled for the 2.4Ghz band, Windows shows me "Unsecured Network" even with 2.4Ghz disabled.
I bought an e4200 about 2 months ago. It worked perfectly for 3 weeks. Then all of the sudden, the 5ghz connection started dropping. Then it's disappeared completely and it would not show up in a network search. Then the 2.4 ghz started going crazy. I reset it completely, that didn't work. I let it sit for half a day, nothing. I sent it back to newegg and got a replacement. When the 2nd one came in, it worked fine until the next day. 5ghz cut out. I called linksys support and they were no luck. I reflashed to 1001 firmware and it mysteriously came back to normal. It was working perfect until today. 3 weeks later. 5ghz went out, and never came back. I reflashed 1001, nothing. Reset, nothing. Flashed the new 1002 firmware, nothing. 2.4ghz still kind of works, but the speed is barely 5mbps. I'm at a freaking loss right now. This was the best performing router I have tried, of all the top models available right now
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my in-laws network from a WRT54G to a E4200. It's working but I'm getting issues with the 5Ghz end. I've got both SSIDs using different names.. so its clear which I'm connecting to. I have a macbook pro which has N support and can see the 5GHz SSID.The issue I get is that when I connect to the 5Ghz SSID, the laptop cannot ping or connect to LAN clients on the 2.4GHz end. This includes SMB shares, a couple of devices with web interfaces and one machine running a VNC server. There is also issues with Internet access.. but only sometimes.
Say I have two terminals open.. one pinging Google and the other pinging one of the 2.4Ghz clients. If I connect to the 2.4Ghz SSID, I get both pings working fine. If I switch to the 5GHz SSID, the macbook gets its IP address but then the Google ping will work but the internal ping just keeps failing. The Internet issue.. looking back on the above example.. sometimes the Google ping will also fail. The mac also sometimes indicates that there is no Internet connection behind the wireless connection when this happens.
When I connect on the 5Ghz SSID, I get my LAN IP address from the router (ifconfig). I can also see the /etc / resolve.conf correctly populated on the macbook with thge gateway and DNS settings.For now, I'm just going to get them to only use the 2.4Ghz SSID and assume that a later release of the softeware will fix things.. it could be a compliance issue on the Apple/Cisco N support.
I setup my E4200 v2 with different SSID's for 2.4 and 5GHz modes. I have no problem with a 2.4 Ghz connection on my laptop, but I cannot connect to the internet in 5GHz. mode. I choose the 5 GHz SSID and enter the passphrase but no luck, even though I have a full 4 bars inthe wireless icon.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an e4200 set up using a trendnet TEW-684ub. Connection on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz seems fine, but when the 5Ghz network is under load, such as running speedtest, the network drops for a second. This does not appear to happen on the 2.4Ghz network.
2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks are set to Auto width and channel using WPA2 and I've tried raising the router up a bit to increase airflow to try to eliminate overheating as a possible issue. I'm also running the latest firmware...1.0.0.3, I believe.
Roku tech support confirms the new Roku2 XS has a 5GHz (as well as 2.4GHz, or course) radio that supports n. I can connect no problem on 2.4GHz Mixed using WPA2 Personal, but not on 5GHz Mixed using WPA2. The Roku can't even see the SSID being broadcast. I don't have any other gear with a 5GHz radio to confirm the E4200 is actually broadcasting a 5GHz SSID.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI Recently purchased the DAP1522 to use as an entertainment bridge for my xbox 360, BR player and dish network receiver I also upgraded my router a WRT5GS running tomato to a Linksys E4200 going from G to N while i had my Xbox and BR connected wireless I didn't have the Dish receiver hooked up so i thought by using the DAP i would be upgrading my network and connecting my Dish receiver no brainier right and everything works so far.But here's the question with all the hype of the benefits of the 5ghz channel , well it's not hype it certainly makes sense but from what I see the products have to be compatible shouldn't what I'm connecting be compatible they say your gaming console specifically and streaming movies i would think . Any configuration tips I read somewhere that with an E3200 router they had to set the 5ghz channel to like 37 for the DAP to see that channel its all getting a little overwhelming here's whats in the house A Mac Power PC pre Intel using a Asus NB13 USB 2.4ghz its the only thing i could find with speeds over 100Mbps A windows 7 machine hardwired gig connection another windows 7 pc downstairs hardwired a netbook with a wireless connection and lastly a DECT 6.0 phone system who knows what interference these produce.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was quite excited about E4200 I got yesterday. Everything works perfect except front LED light start blinking a few hours later. Don't know why it happens in a sudden and non-stop. After several tries, I found that disabling SSID broadcast for both 2.4 and 5GHz stops the blinking.Of course, before doing that, I upgraded firmware to 1.0.02, reset to factory defaults and finally set up E4200 manually rather than using Cisco Connect. Now the LED light is continuously lit.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an E4200v2 configured with an n-only 5GHz network and a mixed 2.4GHz network. Our MacBooks and iPad connect to the 5GHz network, and everything else (iPhones, TVs, etc) connect to the 2.4GHz network. If I disable "WMM" on the QoS screen, nothing can connect to the 5GHz network. Those same devices can connect to the 2.4GHz network, but not the 5GHz. The MacBooks, for example, get a connection timeout error, and the iPad just says "cannot connect." This doesn't seem quite right. I don't absolutely need to disable WMM, but I wanted to make sure that normal WiFi Internet traffic didn't get priority over local wired Mac->AppleTV streaming or voice calls from our wired Vonage box.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was able to connect to my 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks just fine. Now today I get a message that the connection timed out whenever I try and connect to the 5ghz. I have done a 30/30/30 reset, and still no joy. The one thing I haven't done yet is a 30/30/30 with a configuration from scratch. I will probably try that later. I've done the usual things like change the channel and all that, still no go. Other things I've done, change the network name, change the MTU, restart my machine. However, this is happening on other devices as well. The 2.4ghz network, solid as a rock.

I have an existing wireless G network with ActionTec router for VERIZON FIOS. I just added the E4200 router for wireless N. I have latest firmware, 1.0.03. Version 1 hardware.
We are getting a couple of laptops for holidays and would like these to be able use wireless N. I have older laptop/itouch/roku device that use wireless G/B network from ActionTec router. I would like to keep the ActionTec router for wireless G/B, so that both 2.4 and 5.0 ghz networks are Wireless N only.
I have both routers configured so that ActionTec is primary with DHCP and the e4200 is secondary, setup in bridge mode, with DHCP off and static ip of 192.168.1.2. Used this for guidance -> [URL]
I have one SID for ActionTec Wireless G network and this is set for Channel 1
I have a different SID for e4200 Wireless N network, same for 2.4 and 5.0 and I left defaults on other wireless settings.
I have the wireless guest network up and running just fine. But, I need to also connect to the router's quest network via one of the ethernet ports. Can I just give the LAN-conencted PC a 192.168.3.x static IP to access the guest network? I am assuming there is no VLAN functionality...
And even better, can I set up a DHCP relationship to that port? So that any device plugged into the port will get a IP on that subnet?
Ever since I bought the E4200 months ago I had no wireless network between my laptops. pc's devices. I discovered now that I do have network (everything cool) when I disable NAT. That is all nice, but I don't have internet then.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI cannot get the Guest Network feature to work.Even though Guest SSID is enabled, it does not show up on any devices attempting to connect. Manually connecting by entering the Guest SSID fails (not recognized). On devices with the primary 5 and 2.4 GHz configured they do see the third network but without SSID (unknown) and are also unable to connect to it manually using the SSID.I did not try this before 1.0.02. Have rebooted modem and verified all configs (multiple times). The network is live in an office and can't keep screwing with it or drastically changing its settings.
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy general internet connectivity with my e4200.I have a new but similar problem today with the same router.After powering down equipment and moving it around, my wired connections all error. Error in that they will not get an IP address nor will they connect to the internet or each other.My wireless connections still work flawlessly.
I tried powering down the devices over night (to avoid any heating issues) and then powering up but the results are the same. I am obviously missing something, and don't really want to start my network from scratch again...
I'm trying to block two URL's over the entire network via my E4200. I'm having a heck of a time doing this, I loginto my router via the browser (the web setup) (because I think Cisco Connect on the Mac is about the worst software ever written.) And I go to the Access Restrictions page. There I understand I'll have to use the Internet Access Policy pane to make some more advanced settings than the Parental Control.
I enter a name for my rule, so far so good. Enable it. Go to the applied PC page. Open the page to enter MAC adresses and IP's. I go to the IP Address Range field and entere in the box numbered 01; 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.51 which in my case is the enitre network. Save the setttings and close that window.
I don't set Access Restriction to deny becasue that seems to block the entire network.
So I go the the Website Blocking by URL Address option and enter the URL I want to block.
I don't do anything wiht the the Blocked Applications since I don't want to block a specific service or application. So I click Save Settings.
And yet when I go to the URL I want to block it doesn't work! [URL]
I've been playing around with my E4200 but cannot find the right combination of settings. My problem: I bought the router for cable internet that never happened. In the meantime I am accessing the web using a 3G dongle. Hoewever, while connected to the router (wired or wireless), all the PC's in my home refuses to access the 3G internet - it is as if it wants to use the E4200 to access the net, no matter what. So every time I want to access the internet, I have to disconnect the PC from the home network, and connect with the 3G on that particulat PC. (I have three PC's at home, 1 wired and two wireless). If I set the E4200 to bridge mode, I struggle to find a logical IP address, since I would ideally like to run the network at 192.168.1.X. How do I set the E4200 to allow a home network to be established without having to disconnect everytime I use the 3G on a PC? Also, it seems that if the router doesn't handle the DHCP duties, win7 by default makes the network public, which complicates sharing a lot...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using the e4200 for about a week. So far, so good! However, a primary reason I purch it was the ability to share via USB across my network (Files and such). Read the approved USB drives that r compatible and although my specfic drive was not listed (WD, my Passport) I connected it to the e4200 and set a folder called "movies"to share. In this folder I have both bluray rips (25-32GB) and standard rips (5gb or less). Regardless of source, the content was not playable. It buffered like crazy. So, is it as simple as using an approved USB drive and I will be able to share appropriately?
The same folder plays great when connected directly to one of my media streamers USB drive, so don't think the drive/source is bad.
I can see who is connected via the physical ethernet ports on the E4200 router. However, is there a way to check who is connected to the wireless network. Also is there a way to see rx/tx bytes statistics for all wired and wireless users (including ones that are no longer connected)? I've had the router for 3 months now and it works great but I find there isn't enough operational user info/stats on this router.
