Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N Way To Repeat 5GHz Network To Extend Range

Dec 27, 2010

I have the WRT610N, and I was wondering if there is a way to repeat the 5GHz network to extend the range.I am trying to stream content from a Blu-Ray player, and while the 2.4GHz network reaches, the signal is very weak.  The 5GHz network doesn't reach, but I would prefer to stream content through that network than the 2.4GHz.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Getting WAP54g To Repeat (extend) Signals

May 15, 2013

At one of our offices, we have a Cisco ASA5505 firewall that has dhcp enabled. I have a WRT54G router plugged into that firewall with DHCP enabled. The scope of our inside network is 192.168.51.***, however when connected to the WRT54G, it gives you the scope of 192.168.1.***We have an antenna amplifier screwed into one of the antenna ports on the router. This whole setup works fine.

The problem is we need to install an access point WAP54G in a building across the property (picks up router wireless signal fine) to repeat the wireless signal to the back of the property where the router will not reach. I have read that all you need to do is type in the wireless mac address of the routher into the access point and select "Wireless Repeater". I have the channels set to 6 on both devices as well as the same security configuration. When I try to connect to the wireless network on the access point, It never gives me an ip in the 192.168.1.*** scope, which the WRT54G is configured to give out. Also, in this setup does the WRT54G need to be set to router or gateway mode? I do not need it to distribute ip addresses. [code]

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N 5ghz Xbox 360 N Adapter Not Connecting

May 30, 2013

WRT610v2 running latest firmware.xbox 360 sees both the 2.4 network (ssid = network1) and the 5.0 network (ssid network2) when it does its scan.Initially, xbox showed network strength for 2.4 network at 3 out of 4 bars and 5.0 network at 1 out of 4 bars.Connects to 2.4 network just fineWon't pull an ip address and reports "Not connected" when I select the 5.0 network.I tweaked the wireless settings per some suggestions I found in this forum and now it shows the 5.0 network at 4 out of 4 bars signal strength. Also turned security on and off and xbox 360 reported the changes in security on the 5.0 network. So the xbox 360 is definitely seening the 5.0 network. and can tell if it is running WPA2 or not..If it can see the 5.0 network and recognizes what security and network type (infrastructure) is set, would would stop it from connecting to the WRT610n router and getting an IP address? No mac filters or firewalls are set and, again, connects just fine and gets an ip address if I select the 2.4 (network1 ssid) instead.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Is It Possible To Extend Range Of WRT54GX V

I am trying to use the Netgear WNR 2000 V3's repeater function to wirelessly extend the range of a Linksys WRT54GX V.2. I have the SSID's and channels the same. I had the Netgear working great as an extender with my Apple Airport Extreme base station (equipped with WDS). As far as I know, the Linksys is not equipped with WDS.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Add WRT54GL To 2 Wire To Extend Its Range?

Jul 26, 2011

Just purchased WRT54GL for family friend to extend the wireless range of their DSL via 2Wire ATT modem Wireless router. One desktop computer will stay wired to the 2Wire and laptop or 2 will connect to the WRT54GL since the 2Wire cannot reach into the yard (metal buiding). I've seen several examples of connecting two WRT54G together.  I Can I do that well with std Linksys software or would I be better off downloading Tomato or DD-WRT third party?

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG160N No Longer Use And Would Like To Extend Wireless Range

Feb 22, 2011

I have a WRP400 connected to the internet, and have a WAG160N that I no longer use and would like to to extend my wireless range.I connected them via an Ethernet cable and it seems to work fine without configuring the WAG160N (seemed to just work automatically), but I can't access the WAG160N admin GUI (tried all sorts of IPs in the WRP400 range) to change any settings (frustrating). My guess is that it's probably not the best way to set it up.

1. Set the IP of the WAG160N (The WRP400 is set to 192.168.15.1, so should I change the WAG160N to 192.168.15.2. Or should I be setting it within the WRP400's DHCP range which starts at 192.168.15.100?)

2. Swtich off the DHCP on the WAG160N. (I think I tried this late last night and it wouldn't assign an IP to my laptop, unless I did somehting wrong)

3. Connect the two using a ethernet cable.

After I do this I should still be able to access the WAG160N's admin GUI with the IP assigned in step 1?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Cannot Connect To 5GHz 802.11n Network On E4200v2

Jan 20, 2012

I have an E4200v2 configured with an n-only 5GHz network and a mixed 2.4GHz network. Our MacBooks and iPad connect to the 5GHz network, and everything else (iPhones, TVs, etc) connect to the 2.4GHz network. If I disable "WMM" on the QoS screen, nothing can connect to the 5GHz network. Those same devices can connect to the 2.4GHz network, but not the 5GHz. The MacBooks, for example, get a connection timeout error, and the iPad just says "cannot connect." This doesn't seem quite right. I don't absolutely need to disable WMM, but I wanted to make sure that normal WiFi Internet traffic didn't get priority over local wired Mac->AppleTV streaming or voice calls from our wired Vonage box.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Enable Network Lock On WRT610N

Jun 24, 2012

I have had my WRT610N for several years and I noticed the other day that my network was not locked.  I went to task/change wireless connection and clicked on it.  The next screen gives me two options: " Wireless Security" or "Network Lock" and under network lock it states "Network Lock: Not enabled".  I then click on the enable network lock button and I get the following message "network lock could not be enable."  No matter howmany times I do this I get the same message.  So, why is Network Majic not letting me lock my network?  It has always worked before and just recently did this.  I have done a factory reset on my router to see if this could be the problem, but i still get the same message.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N Connection And Network Storage

Mar 11, 2009

On my network I have a wired PC running Vista Ultimate, a wireless g notebook running XP Pro, a wired PABT box for VOIP, an iPhone, a wireless g Mediagate MG350HD media extender connected to the TV in the lounge (about 10 metres away through 3 wooden walls) and I have a usb hard drive connected to the WRT610N router.I have only switched on the 2.4 band on the router - 5.0 band requires the client to have wireless N anyway, so since I have no wireless N devices it's no use right now?To manage my network I use Network Magic.

Problem #1.   My Mediagate MG350HD keeps dropping it's connection to the network. I have tried using DHCP and a static ip for it but it still drops. The only solution I've found is toremove the blanked-out Mediagate from the network map in Network Magic, reboot the router, click 'search for new devices' in Network Magic and MOST times it will redetect and reconnect the Mediagate.

Problem #2. Trying to configure the network storage device (my USB hardrive) is a pain in the arse.In the routers storage tab I cannot make sense of the folder creation. All I want to do is share specific folders and all their contents on the network. Every time I go to assign access rights and click the groups over into the access granted column and hit 'save' it puts them straight back in the access denied column. Does this have something to with permissions on my PC? When I go into Network and Sharing Centre it now displays 'Network Storage', when I click into it 3 networked folders appear, when I try to set permissions on these folders I hit apply and the boxes I've just ticked blank-out again. The folder marked 'Network Hard Drive' (the one I set-up using the storage tab in the router) does not display the subfolders and the actual movies stored on them. When I try to change the persmissions on the using my PC, different folders, eg Movies, TV etc... I get the same blanking out of the tickboxes on 'apply'.Is there a step-by step graphical instruction I can follow other than the PDF that came on the disk with the router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N Not Working And Network Not Obtained

Jan 9, 2012

WRT610N router with v2 firmware stopped working correctly. It loses wired connection via LAN ports. My home network has one PC connected to LAN port 1 and two PC connected via Wi-Fi.Recently unexpectedly the PC with wired connection lost connection.

The symptoms are the following:
- The DHCP local network address is obtained not every time.
- The router (192.168.1.1) not usually responds to ping (returns "host is unreacheable) and I even unable to connect to router's web interface.
- The led for the 3rd LAN port on the front face of router is always on while nothing was ever connected to this port.
- Wi-Fi clients (Windows XP) obtain DHCP address for 30 seconds then report that connection is limited and in a few seconds report that everything is
- The internet for both type of clients is almost not accessible (Wi-Fi is better)

Sometimes (but very rarely the wired connection works fine.

I suppose in my case this is a hardware problem. Can this be repaired of fixed somehow?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Using WRT310N As Access Point To Extend Network

Sep 5, 2011

I currently have a Linksys WRT310N as my primary router/wireless device. I am not getting coverage in my entire home. I was considering purchasing the Linksys E4200 and using the WRT310N as an access point in another part of my house to extend my wireless network. From all of the research and reading I have been doing, it seems that I must connect the WRT310N to the E4200 if I want to use it as an access point. Is this the only way? I have no way to connect the WRT310N to the soon-to-be E4200 unless I run an Ethernet cable across the floor. My goal is to use the WRT310N as a wireless access point without having it wired to the E4200, if at all possible. If this is not, what other way could I go about doing this type of setup?

Extend Wifi Range Of Router Via Cat5 Cabling?

Aug 9, 2012

Our wireless router is in a room at one end of the house (beside the telephone point) from which ethernet cables can connect to the Cat5 sockets taking the broadband to the other rooms that have a Cat5 socket. That is fine for connecting devices to the sockets in the other rooms but because the house is old with thick walls our wifi signal fades to nothing in some parts of the house. Moving the wireless router only moves the problem to another area. I thought about a wifi repeater but the room I would like to locate it in to then boost the signal to the rest of the house is borderline on the range for the wireless router. Is it possible to connect another wireless router or device to the main wireless router through the Cat5 cabling so that the second router/device can offer wifi to that area of the house?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200v2 5ghz Network / Connection Timeout

Now today I get a message that the connection timed out whenever I try and connect to the 5ghz. I have done a 30/30/30 reset, and still no joy. The one thing I haven't done yet is a 30/30/30 with a configuration from scratch. I will probably try that later. I've done the usual things like change the channel and all that, still no go. Other things I've done, change the network name, change the MTU, restart my machine. However, this is happening on other devices as well. The 2.4ghz network, solid as a rock.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N Network Connected - No Internet Access

Jul 8, 2011

My main pc is running Windows 7. It is also running MS Windows firewall and anti-virus. It connects fine to the internet via an ethernet connection to the WRT610N.

I am trying to access the internet wirelessly from another pc running Windows XP. The wireless pc indicates it is connected to the network with excellent signal strength. It will not connect to the internet. I can successfully ping the router but it is unsuccessful when pinging an internet address.

An additional wireless pc (WinXP) and my phone (Android) also show connected to the network but will not connect to the internet.

These wireless computers used to be able to access the internet before we moved house. They only thing I think that has changed is the addition of Windows firewall and anti-virus. It may however be something else.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT610N Network Drive Can't Be Accessed By Any Computer

Feb 27, 2013

I have a WRT610N v2 with current firmware.  The hard drive is a Western Digital Elements formatted to NTFS and already has music and photos so that other computers in the house can view them. This setup was done awhile back, maybe even a year ago.

Anyway, I can map the network drive and see everything there, but then after awhile (minutes - maybe 10) of idle time, the network drive can't be accessed by any computer, either as the mapped drive (W or by clicking the WRT610N in the network tree. It's like it goes to sleep and can't be awakened by activity.

I have searched the forums here and at WD but haven't found a solution or even this exact problem.  I did find a utility on the WD site that is supposed to fix/eliminate the short idle time, but it didn't seem to work.
