Linksys Cable / DSL :: EA4500 Wireless Signal Doesn't Reach Whole House

Feb 24, 2013

We have a large house, with wired connections in every room.   After the ISP just installed a new  EA4500, the wireless signal does not reach the whole house. Is it possible to plugin the old X3000 into the wired connection upstairs and have it boost a wireless signal to that area?I know how to reset the unit and access the setup page.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG54GS Need Wireless Signal To Reach Each Guest Room

Jun 1, 2009

i'm setting up a wireless network for a local B&B they currently have a Linksys WAG54GS ADSL router in one of the rooms but need the wireless signal to reach each guest room the house has thick brick walls and an upstairs.i was thinking of using 2 x repeaters, the WRE54G's, and to put one on the ground floor within range of the current ADSL router and to put another on the 1st floor within range of the repeater on the ground floor to receive the bounced signal.I don't know much about these repeaters and how they work exactly and so unsure if this would be a viable solution in my case.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Cannot Reach To 450 Mbps With EA4500

Feb 8, 2013

I have a new EA4500 router and I cannot configure it to reach the 450 mbps that is supposed to get.

I have it configured as follows:
Dual Band- 2,4 and 5 GHz
2,4 in 20MHz only - 5 GHz in 40 MHz only
2,4 Mixed - 5 Ghz only N
WPA2 personal in both
Channel - automatic (both)

I have checked that the 5 Ghz network can only use 4 channels: 36, 40, 44, 48. Where are the channels up to 100 (or more)? How to get all the power of the router?

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WRT54G - Network Signal Very Low Throughout The House?

Feb 4, 2011

I have a Linksys wireless-g broadbrand router ( WRT54G ) in my bedroom along with my cable modem and everything runs fine in my room. But I also have a pretty old computer in another bedroom about maybe 15 or 20 feet away from the current setup. On that computer I have a wireless g adapter that's connect through a usb port and has very low signal strength. I sometimes use that computer and I'm always getting kicked off I'm guessing because the signal cuts out. So, today I plugged in the adapter in my room with my setup and had amazing signal. What can I do to give that other computer a good boost? I know I should update that computer but I'm guessing I also need to somehow boost the signal somehow.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54gx4 Not Being Used - Signal Won't Reach

I have DSL set up in a home network.  I want it to be used in my barn.  The signal won't reach wireless though.  I have 2 older wireless routers not being used - Lynksys wrt54gx4.  Can I add two of these in the path to the barn to extend the signal?  I would put one in the back of the house and one halfway to the barn in the pool house.  ZCan these routers connect wirelessly to the home network?

it might be good to point out first that this was never a problem before i began fixing a completely irrelevant problem (screen broke) with my laptop, which took around three weeks. i could at that time use the internet a couple of rooms away from the router just fine, but now it's a no-go. .

the model is WRT54G, and the serial number is CDFD1F9CJ507.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Speed Quality And Signal

May 27, 2012

Bought the new EA4500 a couple of days ago and have looked at my wireless connection and see it varies from 72Mbps to 144Mbps.  It has jumped up to 270Mbps a few times, but rarely.  Shouldn't it be 300Mbps most of the time?  My laptop is 4 feet away from the router and the router is on top of a card board box being elevated away from interference.  The prior router was a dlink 855 that went whacky after 3 years.  I believe I was usually at 270 Mbps with that.  What gives?  Do I have a faulty router?  With this new router, I expected the range to be a lot farther and faster too, but it is not in my family room.  2nd floor router, family room is 1st floor about 50 feet away and I get 1Mbps - 5Mbps.    Everything is set to Auto on router and IP6 is disabled on laptop.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Ea4500 Wifi Signal Disappearing For Few Seconds

May 6, 2012

My new EA4500 works fine all day, both wireless and wifi, on both bands, but nearly every evening, the wifi signal disappears, as shown on a wifi app for my smart phone, but not on Issid on my laptop, strangely, and my PC laptop and iPad both disconnect, then reconnect.  Smart phone disconnects too.  It isn't like the signal drops in strength, it just goes away! I have tried various settings on modes, and bandwidths, I am using different SSID's on each band, WPA2 security with a long non-dictionary passphrase and MAC filtering.  The hardwire connection works great at 30+ Mbps even when the wifi is disappearing from the wifi scanner and the wifi connections are dropping.  In other words, the cable connection/modem is working fine, but the wifi radio signal stops or the SSID drops off the signal.  I really can't tell, but I know it is becoming very frustrating.  The old WRT54GS works fine if I put it back on-line in the evening when these things start to happen.

I have turned off everything I can think of in the house that transmits or might transmit, in case it is an interference thing.  I have tried disabling the 5 GHz side, since I can't see what is happening on that band, and the last thing I tried was changing the MTU from 1500 to 1400.  So far, the past evening, it was okay, but I am not confident it will stay that way.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Ea4500 Wifi Signal Weaker Than Old Wrt54g

Aug 27, 2012

I recently bought the top end ea4500 hoping its "high end" claims would get a better wifi signal in my bedroom(on my iphone 4s) than what i was getting with my WRT54G.The end result is it constantly drops signal completely or shows my network but when I try to connect says "cannot connect to wireless network" even though it's staring me right in the face.  When I hook my WRT54G up, I get a signal.. all be it weak, but at least it doesn't drop out on me.Did I just waste almost $200 on a high end router that can't push a signal out stronger than my almost 7 year old WRT54G? or am i missing some setting that will make this EA4500 worth its claims? settings info:everything is pretty much on "default" aside from the SSIDs for the different bands and the corresponding WPA passwords.

also another problem, it seems like the router itself craps out every 60-120 minutes, no leds lit up on the router and my modem (Cisco DCP3010) shows no "link". Yet when hooked directly to the PC there is a "link", so pretty sure its the router and not the modem.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Loses Signal Strength And Transmission Speed?

Aug 30, 2012

I have been disappointed by the range of the EA4500 compared to previous routers, but I am most puzzled by it's behavior. I may get an "excellent" connection close to the router (one room away) and speeds up to 65 Mps, but after a few minutes of surfing the web the signal strength and speed can drop substantially.

The problem is the worst at a distance (one floor down in our house, maybe 30 feet away in total) where the signal strength may start at "good" and a speed of perhaps 30 Mps, but then after 3-4 minutes drops to "poor" and maybe 5 Mps.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Guest Network Re-authentication Doesn't Work

Sep 15, 2012

I have successfully set up a guest network on my EA4500. Guest laptop associates with guest SSID just fine. Then via IE, it gets prompted for the guest password, which is entered and accepted just fine. At this point guest laptop is on the network.

BUT... at some point the guest laptop will need to reauthenticate (I don't know what the timeout is, but maybe one or two days?). Anyway, it's at this point that IE presents the guest network login page. But now after typing in the password, "enter" or clicking on the button does nothing. It looks like the guest web page doesn't get loaded properly or completely, so the reauthentication can't complete, therefore can't get to the internet. So, while in this state, I've also tried Firefox and Chrome, and same thing, no action when trying to submit the guest password. Tried rebooting guest laptop, and still same problem. Only thing I've found so far that works is to reboot the router. So I'm guessing there's a problem with the guest/web server on the router?? It's a real pain to have to reboot the router every day or two, when I've had other Linksys routers run for months without having to touch them.

I was running CCC 2.1.38 when I first noticed the problem. Since then I've downgraded to Classic 2.0.37, but it seems I still have the same problem. Again, I can connect & authenticate just fine initially, but when reprompted after some period of time, it doesn't work.

I've tried contacting Cisco support, but it looks like I'm at 91 days since purchase and thus outside of my 90-day complimentary support, so they happily provided me with the premium support options just to have the honor of talking with them. Guess I shouldn't have spent so much time trying to figure this out myself.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Installing EA4500 With Cable ISP?

Jan 10, 2013

getting ready to do the install of a EA4500 with a Cable internet provider. I found the site on Cisco on how to manually install the router with Cable [URL]It advises to first install using the software that comes with the router. It then gives the following steps:

Step 1:Access the router’s web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.NOTE: If you are using a Mac computer to access the router’s web-based setup page, click here.

Step 2:On the Setup tab, click the MAC Address Clone sub-tab.Step 2:Check the Internet IP Address. If it has numbers, this means the router has been properly configured.

NOTE: If the Internet IP Address values are showing up 0.0.0.0, click on Release IP Address then the Renew IP Address buttons.NOTE: For wireless-B and wireless-G routers, click on the DHCP Release and DHCP Renew buttons. MY QUESTION: are the steps above something that definately will need to be done or is that in the case that it's not configured via the installation using the software?I have this same router installed at my home however I use DSL internet and my daughter uses Cable internet so I want to make sure I am positive on the steps prior to installing.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 - No Configuration Capability In Cable Modem?

Aug 26, 2012

I just switched to Roadrunner Lightening via Brighthouse Networks.  There is no configuration capability  in the Cable modem/ router / wireless - Ubee provided  to make the Modem a bridge.  You have to call Brighthouse to do that.   They indicated that they only do that for supported routers and the EA 4500 is not one of them.   I'm ready to call them to say I have one of the supported modems so "do it" and then find out what happens.

Meanwhile I have connected my EA4500 through their router and have a network in a network.   I've noticed another more significant problem.   The speeds through the EA 4500 drop to 90%.   Is there something wrong with the router configuration that would cause this significant drop in speed?   I'm afraid if the problem is the EA 4500.

Adding A Second Modem To Increase Signal In A Part Of House

Feb 5, 2012

I initially had a laptop and a desktop with one Telkom router, running both wireless and wired (Ethernet cable)pics removed for security purpose. My daughters got laptops, and I bought a Netgear Wireless N300 Router/Modem for a better signal. The signal is good, but at the extremes of the house poor.I found on the internet a plan of a Windsurfer and built one. The results were not that impressive. So I thought to incorporate the first router (the Telkom router/modem) somewhere in the LAN for a boost.I changed the first (Telkom) router to a booster, but struggled (used advice from the internet) and stopped the exercise. Some settings were changed on the Telkom modem. So this was the situation for the past 2 years.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG320N Very Poor Wireless Signal On 5GHz?

Nov 29, 2010

I live in a block of flats I decided to buy a proper router on 5GHz. I can see at least 12 wireless networks and all of them on 2.4GHz(mostly BT HomeHubs or other UK ISP wireless boxes). I study CCNA and our teachers recommend cisco routers(linksys) as the best ones. I bought a WAG320N as the best one I could find in the UK market for a fair price. The problem is, that I have less signal on 5GHz than on 2.4GHz. I have maximum 50% of signal on 5GHz and speed is usually below 802.11g, means below 64Mbps! I can't believe it. When I change it to 2.4GHz the signal has up to 80% like my old router TP-Link. The speed is mostly up to 65Mbps, means terrible. I have seen lots of topics about this particular router but I couldn't believe that Cisco sell such awful and unreliable products like this router. I have tried to change the channels on 5 and 2.4GHz but it's always the same, poor speed and low signal. My wireless card is Intel WifiLink 6200 Advanced -N and operating systems Windows 7 and Sabayon linux. I have a laptop and it is cca 6 metres from the router and there are 2 walls. The router is still under warranty so I won't hesitate to return it back to PCWorld.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG120N Signal Strength Was Poor When Browsing Wireless LAN

Jul 17, 2010

I've noticed something interesting, after having been disconnected from the WLAN in less than 1 minute in my first experience with this Linksys' Modem Router:  The signal strength was poor when browsing the Wireless LAN.    I was at home, in a room just beside the one where the router was placed at.So, I took a look at connection status, and saw the signal strength was Medium - Weak: something around 30% and 55% You could think it was due to mirrors, the kind of walls between the rooms, and everything else, but I instantly remembered when browsing WLAN from the same place but not with the same router, the signal was strong (100%)...but I let it alone  In the other day, while browsing WLAN, I've noticed another thing, this time visible: "TX power" I've got in connection status was 39mW, while I was almost sure it should be 100mW, based on my past WLAN connections Then, today I decided to take a look more deeply in that, and unboxed my Linksys' WRT54G to test.  The test was carried on consisting in both Wireless routers placed in the same room, and a solid wall was between me and the routers.I could connect to the two WLANs, but the status of connections were different.

WAG120N:

WRT54G:

As you can see, when connecting to WRT54G , signal reached 100% at some point, whereas in WAG120N , such a mark wasn't possible.Of course, the signal strength was unstable in both routers, but the average level in WRT54G WLAN was greater, being most of time over 90%, and never below 80%.In WAG120N WLAN, average was 82%, and lowest level was 55%.When I went to the room where the routers were at, and right in front of them, no need to say both reached 100%, but as you can see, in WAG120n's case, TX power was still 39mw: I believe it's a firmware fault, once all other routers I've connected to always showed TX power as being 100mW.It shoundn't be related to the general hardware, as Cisco products are high-quality ones.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: Cisco X2000 Drops Wireless Signal - Requires Reboot

Jul 15, 2012

I recently installed a Cisco X2000. Several PCs running Windows XP Pro connect wirelessly. Also, we have an Android device and iPhone connected to the wireless network. We have a network printer and network drive connected via wires to the router. Most of the time the router and cable modem features work well. However, every so often all devices lose wireless signal simultaneously. It is not possible to reconnect to the X2000 unless I unplug the X2000 and plug it back in. After this reboot, we can connect again. Obviously, this is quite frustrating. By the way, we get acceptable signal strength after the X2000 locks out however none of the devices (computers or phones) are able to connect.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG160n Router Doesn't Respond To Wireless At All Anymore

I recently bought a Linksys WAG160N v2 model to replace my old setup of a Linksys WRT54GL + ASUS AM604g (ADSL2+ Modem) i had.I've set it up to dial my ISP's PPPoE connection as i had on the previous setup exactly, And it seemed to work at first. But now i've randomly noticed the connection just dies - the router doesn't respond to wireless at all anymore, and connecting from a wired machine shows the PPPoE link died, while the log says something along the lines of "PPPoE connection terminated: transport endpoint not connected" followed by a big number with lots of zeros and :'s. Probably some kind of IPv6 error address? note that i am not using IPv6 myself nor does my ISP provide any such addresses.

I've already upgraded the firmware to latest and installed the newest WiFi drivers on the machine i was connecting from wirelessly (has an Intel Wifi Link AGN5300 module).

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Doesn't Ask For IP Address From Cable Modem

Attempting to get EA6500 working with TWC Motorola Surfboard SBV5220 modem, which has been working just fine for the last 2 years with a Linksys E3000 router.  DHCP client in the EA6500 either doesn't ask for an IP address from the cable modem or the modem just isn't supplying one.  With the E3000, you could see the IP address assigned by the cable modem and the primary and secondary DNS server addresses provided, and if the DHCP request didn't work, these addresses would be all zeroes.  But, with the EA6500, I can't find an equivalent screen that shows these assignments, or zeroes when the DHCP request fails.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 Not Compatible With EA4500?

Apr 28, 2013

The Linksys EA4500 router is designed to be added to an existing network as an additional access point. See the following description:

Setting your Linksys Wi-Fi or Smart Wi-Fi Router to Bridge Mode is applicable when you want to:•  Connect two (2) routers with the capability of sharing the network resources •  Use the router as an additional access point on an existing network •  Connect the router to a modem/router from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) •  Disable the router functionalities to work with third party devices

Unfortunately the Linksys X3000 DSL modem router is not compatible to the bridge mode, since the internal switch fails if a MAC address of a wireless device switches between the X3000 internal access point and the access point of the EA4500 router. In the faulty state, no local network resources (print server, NAS, ...) are accessible anymore.
