Adding A Second Modem To Increase Signal In A Part Of House
Feb 5, 2012
I initially had a laptop and a desktop with one Telkom router, running both wireless and wired (Ethernet cable)pics removed for security purpose. My daughters got laptops, and I bought a Netgear Wireless N300 Router/Modem for a better signal. The signal is good, but at the extremes of the house poor.I found on the internet a plan of a Windsurfer and built one. The results were not that impressive. So I thought to incorporate the first router (the Telkom router/modem) somewhere in the LAN for a boost.I changed the first (Telkom) router to a booster, but struggled (used advice from the internet) and stopped the exercise. Some settings were changed on the Telkom modem. So this was the situation for the past 2 years.
We have wireless in the house, the router, etc is down in the basement where my office is. Is there any way to increase the strength to the main level of the house? Our house is standard size, but it seems to weaken upstairs.
Have two desk top pc's in metal building office they are operating by way of DSL modem my provider is Century Link. I purchased a WRT 54Gl linksys wireless router hoping I would be able to get a WIFI signal to my house. I have no live phone lines in my home just the one in my metal building , how can I get a signal through the metal building to my home in order to use wifi on my Ipod and Iphone . Keep in mind I am 200 ft from my home and have a wooden shop and another metal building to go through to get to my home.
I have 1 house that is about 1/4 or 1/2 a mile away from the other house.I would like to setup an antenna that sends a wifi signal from one house to the house that does not have internet.I have a picture link that i drew up at the top. I'm not the best at drawing stuff so bare with me.Im going to type a path of the internet out to show you what I would like to get setup.[CODE]
I have a Linksys wireless-g broadbrand router ( WRT54G ) in my bedroom along with my cable modem and everything runs fine in my room. But I also have a pretty old computer in another bedroom about maybe 15 or 20 feet away from the current setup. On that computer I have a wireless g adapter that's connect through a usb port and has very low signal strength. I sometimes use that computer and I'm always getting kicked off I'm guessing because the signal cuts out. So, today I plugged in the adapter in my room with my setup and had amazing signal. What can I do to give that other computer a good boost? I know I should update that computer but I'm guessing I also need to somehow boost the signal somehow.
I currently have a dlink dir-655 in my basement. my computer on the second floor is connected via DWA-160. I Only have around 2-3 signal bars, and never get the 300mbs like described. i would like to know all the possibilities to extend my range (to have 5 bars) or get better connection speed. do you recommend an access point or an extender? Which models? also, if i have an dir-615, can i use it as an acesspoint/range extender for my computer on the 2nd floor? if so, how? I am looking for the cheapest alternative in order to have better signal and speed. The modem is stuck in the basement therefore I cannot move it.
I have computers scattered across our home, and in many areas it is not feasible to run ethernet cable. At one location (less than 30 feet away) but through multiple walls, I can barely connect to any POS (I have two). I added a stand alone antenna extension with long antennas on both the router and the WiFi card on the PC, however, this made zero improvement. What should I be looking to purchase to increase the signal strength? I've already tried different routers.
We have a large house, with wired connections in every room. After the ISP just installed a new EA4500, the wireless signal does not reach the whole house. Is it possible to plugin the old X3000 into the wired connection upstairs and have it boost a wireless signal to that area?I know how to reset the unit and access the setup page.
-My landlord has his modem/router connected by a wire that runs downstairs to my desktop computer; and my desktop computer's internet is excellent. -I have a laptop in the other room that is connected wirelessly to my landlord's router with poor internet strength. -I have a spare linksys wireless G broadband router that is not being used.
How can I use this router to increase the signal strength on my laptop in the other room?
Even though I put high gain antennas on my routers which extended the range of good signal immensely, I wish to try to get even better signal strength also. When using manual configuration mode on the router, I have set the WiFi power level to 100% (default level). Is there a way to increase that level beyond 100% and "overdrive" the signal? I tried to input a number >100% and that was not accepted.
I know this is possible if I go to dd-wrt, and possibly with open-wrt, which I prefer not to do for various reasons, not the least of which is that I have both a Rev. A1 and a Rev. B1 router (Rev. A1 is not supposed to support dd-wrt). I also know that increasing the power will make the router run hotter. I am willing to risk it as I monitor the temperature regularly.
Has anyone ever tried to do this or, have the people who want this just gone to dd-wrt? From the dd-wrt forum it appears that the DIR-825 router in Rev. B1 is not very user friendly to dd-wrt. After 3 years the code is still flaky. I would prefer not to use it, if possible.
I have an E1000 router in my office with a cat5 cable going to my daughters bedroon thru several doors and around some corners. She (recently moved back in) has an E1000 router also.I need to know how to use both routers to increase the wireless signal in her bedroom.I have not tried anything yet.The router in my office is configured with an address of 192.168.2.1.
I use a Linksys WRT54GR router. I recently bought an iPad, and I generally use it in a room that is on the other side of the house and through many walls. When it works, it works nice. But recently, my signal has been weak, and is often dropped. Pages load slowly, or not at all after getting a could not connect to server or whatever message. However, this isnt a huge problem for my laptops when used in this room. I dont believe it is the iPad that is faulty because my iTouch also experiences difficulty sometimes. I need a way to increase the signal strength for a longer distance. I looked at a repeater, but im not quite sure what it is and how to set one up, or where to buy one.
We have a new e1000 router that was having trouble reaching the TV for Netflix movie streaming. Too many walls and too much distance. A simple solution was to direct the signals from the router by placing aluminum foil behind the router so all the signal was going towards the TV rather than in an 360 degree circle. Now the streaming works great! After the movie is done I remove the foil and everything looks just like it should.
I have a WAP54G and the signal strength and range is not that great; unit manufactured in 04/2007. I have firmware version 3.04 dated Oct 31, 2005. Customer support is suggesting I upgrade the firmware to 3.04.03 but I am sure it will really do anything to the signal strength and range. Also, they suggested I download new drivers for my desktop wireless card.
If I have a wireless adapter do I still need a wireless router? I have DSL service for my desktop but just got a new laptop and wanted to be able to use my laptop around the house without relocating the DSL modem. However I wasn't sure about the adapter vs. the router.
i have a dpc3825 cable mdem gateway i spent 4 hours on the phone with charter yesterday i cant access the admin part of the router i go to 192.168.0.1 and up comes the setup username and password i have reset it numerous times i have left it blank as per instructions i have tried admin and blank cusadmin and password i cant get in

I need to increase the internet bandwidth available to my network. We currently have one Wildblue satellite internet modem. Can I add a 2nd satellite modem at a different router on my network?
I have DSL via ethernet on my Mac through a Westell 6100 series modem/router, which also has a USB port. Is it possible to share my Internet connection, preferably via a cable not wireless, with a PC laptop by using the USB port (with an ethernet adaptor), or by splitting my present ethernet connection?

I've been getting internet from a SMC8014WN Wireless Cable Modem gateway and I've been having sporadic connection issues ever since. I use Wireless USB Adapters on my own computer to connect to it from across a hallway and into another room and the connectivity is not very consistent. [URL]No matter what adapter I use (I have many) I sometimes get "now connected" messages and when I'm playing games like TF2 my connection either spikes, or drops and comes back (I'll get DC warnings and the game will freeze, and then come back in)
We have a Vigor ADSL modem linked to a hub that then links to 3 pc's and 2 printers all via ethernet. Connection to the outside world is fine.
A few weeks ago the IT geek decided to switch the modem from DHCP to PPPoA and put each pc & printer on fixed IPs. The Vigor is also on a static IP.
This therefore cut off our link to the Linksys WRTG54 we have in a different room serving as a wireless router.
The Linksys is/was connected via ethernet to port 1, port 2 direct to laptop. Wireless worked fine until they changed to static IP etc on the Vigor, now we only have ethernet to the laptop and no Wireless.
What do we need to do at the Linksys end to get wireless working again?
I am using Reliance Netconnect which gives me maximum speed of 100 kbps of surfing and 5-8 kbps of download speed.how I can increase surfing and download speed by using same data card.
So i have AT&T dsl internet. but whenever i connect my computer wirelessly to the modem and get on the internet it repeatedly loses dsl connection every some odd minutes. the dsl light on my modem turns off, then blinks red, then fixes itself for five or so minutes until the cycle restarts. ive tried 2 wireless usb adapter and 1 internal wireless card. none have worked at all. but if its wired with an ethernet cord it works fine. we also have 2 other laptops that connect wirelessly and work fine. i dont understand what would cause this solely on my computer. ive also had AT&T come to my house and look at it and they said its fine, the issue is somewhere in my computer messing with the modem.
I am trying to wireless repeat the wifi signal of my cisco epc3925 wifi modem. The router i am using as extender is a netgear wndr3700. i dont have much knowledge about these thing and am losing so much time by trying to get it working. everytime i apply the settings in the netgear i am unable to connect to it (even wired) and have to hard reset it...attached are some screen shots of both devices from last settings I tried.
I cannot get wireless collection to work up stairs with the WUS600N Adaptor at all,and with the modem 20 feet from from my laptop downstairs i am only getting 3 BAR SIGNAL STRENTH.Just had Replacement WAG160N ALEX A V2 as my other one died ,(did not have a problem with the one sent back for replacement) Have the latest firmware 00.20 installed model serial No is SSH10JA11079.WUS600N V1 latest drivers for windows 7 .03.10.Windows detects the modem ok, but there is no signal at all up stairs and with the modem downstairs even the wireless on the laptop (15 feet from the modem) is only 3 bar signal strength ,did have this problem with the one I sent back.
