View 1 RepliesI have a Gateway Notebook Model ML6720 that has built-in Wireless. The PC was heavily infected by Virus and I had to re-install Vista Operating system. Now, it will not detect the Wireless Adapter. I went to the maufacturer's website on another computer and downloaded the driver and installed the driver on the laptop. However, it did not work. The blue "wireless" light on the laptop is "lit", however when I go to "Device Manager" and look at the Network Drives, it only shows the wired Ethernet option.

My computer receipt lists "integrated 10/100 network card" and "intel 4965AGN wireless-N mini card".I can't access the Internet.When I ran the setup from the drivers disk, I chose intel 8255x-based PCI ethernet adapter (10/100). My other devices have issues too. There are 3 base system devices an Ethernet controller device and video controller that have the yellow exclamation points by them, as well as the network adapter.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an old laptop and thought it would be OK for grandson to use until he can use a better one.It runs XP home so I thought I would reinstall win before handing it over, however after the reinstall the laptop cannot see my Virgin modem.The model of laptop is Acer Aspire 1640z it has a button on the front to indicate wireless status but that is showing nothing at all it is just a clear white colour.I did search on here before posting and found a post that had been dealing with a similar problem, I downloaded "win XP -KB91702v3-x86ENU.exe" as was suggested in post but that hasn't worked.This is an old laptop but it was working and connecting to internet fine before I did reinstall.

My mom wanted to use it to check her email. she didnt download anything, but after she turned it off, and i turned it back on, the computer would not detect any type of internet activity. i put in a new ethernet card, and it still would not work. The sound on the computer has also stopped working. i checked windows audio service, and it says its running, and there is no detected problem with any of the hardware.

I tried setting both computers up on a homegroup network but they cannot look at each others music and documents my sister has Win 7 64bit and my brother has Win vista 32 bit ? The win7 is in English so it does not seem to hard to find things. I downloaded for my sister -Advanced IPscanner - and Netcut but netcut does not seem to work on 64 bit and the IPscanner recognizes my brothers computer but will not shut it off - they wanted to be able to know when the other is online and also be able to cut one another off when they choose to.

Turned out in the end all I needed to do was update my Atheros and Realtek drivers. Months down the line, now having the same symptoms, I decide to update my drivers only to find out there are no updates available and my drivers are up to date and working. The only other thing that may be the root to the this problem is the fact last night I connected to my girlfriends router at her house with this same laptop. Now I come back to my router this evening and I'm having these symptoms I had months ago. It's also saying the network is 'Undentified' eventhough it SAYS it's connected. It doesnt allow me to access the internet at all. I removed the history of my girlfriends connection on manage wireless networks, including my own.

Everytime I try it seems like I connected (the little blue globe symbol displays) but when I try and go to a webpage, the connection times out or moves slow. When I run diagnose and repair it tells me that this computer has "limited or no connectivity" even though I'm able to connect to other networks. Selecting the "automatically get new IP settings" and "reset network adapter" options don't work. After selecting these earlier it was telling me "unable to connect to primary DNS server", then it was telling me "windows has confirmed this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem". Now it's telling me there is no problem in spite of the slow connection.
I don't think my wireless adapter is the issue, I'm able to connect to other networks fine. I don't think the router/modem is the issue, there's another computer in the house (that I don't own) as well as my xbox hooked up wireless to it with no problem.
I am having trouble connecting to the internet in Windows Vista Sp2. I have looked in device manager for any type of ethernet device, and I don't see one. I do not have a wireless adapter installed, but when I plug in an Ethernet cord I don't see any type of bubble saying I have new connections. I don't Even have the icon that should say local area connection in network connections

edit I tried to disable the autoscaling feature in windows and it did not work /I am running windows vista home 32bit/I can connect to the router now I had the wrong security type selected WPA instead of WPA2, but it still reports local only, I checked my router logs and it shows that it connects but it does not give me information on if it is blocking the laptop from the internet or if my laptop is. I have tried turning off the windows firewall and resetting it as well now.
I have tried the things listed below
- uninstall and reinstall windows wireless adapter drivers through computer managment
- disablied IPv6 through wirless adapter properties (unchecking the box)
- reset my rounter entirely (after which I can no longer connect to the router at all, where as before I did this I was able to connect to my router but it was local only) held the reset button for 10 or more seconds plus unplugged my modem and router for 5 mins, I know its alot of time for that but I was eating but regardless, after which I turned on my modem let all the lights go through their setup then I turned on the router let all the lights do their thing, and then my laptop to make sure everything picked up new settings.
-something threw me off also under computer managment under the network adapters there were ipv6 to ipv4 "tunnels" or something, they had the yellow warning sign on it.
Can i connect xp, vista, & windows 7 on the same wireless router?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop that runs Windows Vista, and every time I want to connect to the Internet, I had it where I would enter the password each time, and I would always uncheck the boxes to save the connection. Today, my sister gets on my laptop and leaves the boxes checked, so now when I connect to my WiFi, I don't have to enter in a password anymore. Personally, I don't like this, and want to revert back to having to enter in the password each time. Is there a way that I can do that in Windows Vista, without having to reset the password itself or fooling with the router?

I am hoping to be able to connect remotely to my friend's Vista laptop (connected to the Internet via a dial-up in a developing country) from my own wireless broadband PC (Win 7).
Is there any recommended software that would enable me to do that or is Remote Desktop Connection able to do it, and what information would I need in order to be able to identify her on the Internet? I would have thought that any IP address that she can see under 'Network & Sharing Centre' or through the Command Prompt would only display the generic IP address of her ISP, wouldn't it? And would both of us need the same type of software to allow me to connect?
I have just moved homes and I am unable to connect wirelessly to the internet through the network in my new house. The computer is connected to the network with excellent signal strength but access shows as local only and will not connect to the internet.
All other computers have been able to connect to the internet with no problems, and my computer will connect to other wifi connections, no problem.I can connect with a wire directly to the router, but no luck with wifi. We can take this laptop to McDonald's and use their wi-fi, or at my parents...or seemingly anywhere else. We have successfully connected 3 other laptops to the wireless signal thru the pk5001z. We had the geeksquad advise us several times...going as far as they accessed this laptop remotely...and still can't obtain a solution. Do we need a different modem? It came with an absolute ton of bloatware and no matter how hard I try it seems to slow start up times and effect general performance. I thought I would download and reinstall an entirely clean version of Windows 7.I could not for the life of me get wifi to work afterwards. There are a load of drivers for wifi on the HP support website and I tried them all, not knowing which one was correct. No dice. The wifi card does not seem to show on device manager. It's like the system does not know the card is installed.There are some 'unknown device' errors on device manger so I assume that has something to do with it. The wifi card does show on bios, and after rolling back to the old bloatware system image, wifi is now back, so definately not a hardware problem.

It says the Network Adapter is not found, so I plugged in my old hard drive and went on the internet to download the proper driver install for my network adapter, but there's one problem.I don't have an extra sata cable to connect them both at the same time so I can transfer the driver software from one hard drive to the other, and since the internet isn't working on the one I need to install the driver on, uploading it to a website obviously isn't an option.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an older (but still good) computer...it's gotten to the point of being somewhat less than functional due to remnants of old programs and viruses and such scattered thoughout it. After a few weeks of fighting it to get it to run properly I think at this point my best option is to reformat the hard drive and re-install the original OS from CD. I've already backed up all my important files to CD and DVD, pretty much ready to pull the trigger here.... Concerned about getting back online! I have cable internet (Bresnan)...I want to make sure I have the proper drivers and any applicable software to get back online, I know people have had problems with this after reformatting....The computer is a dell dimension 8400, I'll be returning it to a windows XP home edt. with sp2 from the OS CD, (circa 2004ish). I plan on putting a comodo firewall installation on a CD as well, so I have a functional firewall in place (instead of the crappy norton one that will get re-installed) when I go to get the sp2 updates and the sp3 and updates and not just end up re-infected again...

afterwards i installed ALL available and latest drivers from dell or/and intel regarding this wifi adapter. the result is that the wireless adapter is again shown in the hardware manager and also in the system information of win7 which is great.BUT, somehow the win7 wifi network software/tools does still not recognize the adapter by the means of unplugging the lan cable i just see the wifi symbol with a red x. also opening the network and sharing console does not show the adapter to me although when clicking on "configure wifi networks" and "adapter properties" it is there and active "ready to use". additionally, the intel wireless diagnosis tool tells me that the adapter must have been deactivated or deinstalled. well, the tool is partially right, but the adapter was reinstalled and shows up in the hardware manager. somehow it missed that point ?
So I reformatted my hard drive today and reinstalled Windows XP Professional version. I have a desktop tower, but I use a Netgear wireless adapter to connect to the Internet. I went to reinstall the program from the CD so I could connect to the internet, when a prompt came up saying that I had to download and install some update to my OS to install the software. To do that, I needed to connect to the internet. So, I took the desktop to a hard point and tried connecting it to the house router through an ethernet cable. After reading some similar problems, I went to Device Manager, and noticed that the devices: "Multimedia Audio Controller", "PCI Modem", and "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" all have yellow "!"s next to them.
