Apr 1, 2011For some reason, I can't connect my laptop to the internet. When I enable wireless connection it starts but there is an "x" over the icon and it never connects. When I go to view available wireless connections the window is empty. No wireless signals even though my desktop is connected and it shows at least 10 network signals in range. Nov 28, 2011I have a netgear router and an win xp desktop connected to each other through the ISP modem. The internet works great. Xbox live connected via through the netgear router(access point), works great. Now i just recently bought a power cord for an old laptop, charged it, working fine. Its a Compaq laptop, with a vista OS. My problem is not finding the router and/or connecting to it. I just cant seem to access the internet. It shows local connection only with an unidentified network, but it shows my routers name(LOTUS). There is alittle red X in-between the unidentified network and the internet. I pulled off the ip config/all on the vista laptop.

Laptop Will Only Connect To The Internet Wirelessly
Sep 2, 2011I received a new hard drive along with recovery discs from dell yesterday. They told me the new drive would be blank and I would have to run the discs. Not a problem. Installed the OS along with the drivers that had check marks next to them.
Today I plug in my home internet and it won't work. Unplug it and turn the wireless back on and it gets online just fine.

I can reset the internet, get about 10mins before it disconnects again. We have in total, 3 PC's, 3 laptops that use the internet. It's fine whenever that laptop is not on. I have tried the method of giving everything it's own IP incase it's an issue, but no change. Also tried the resetting anything simultanously etc.

It couldn't connect my home's wireless router or if it did, it would have no internet access. After around a week and i tried to connect again, the wireless started working again like nothing ever happened. Sep 7, 2011My girlfriend has just had Virgin Media installed in her house. She has a vista laptop which she is trying to connect wirelessly to the network. She can connect to the network (she says) but cannot use the internet.She has made sure she is typing in the security key correctly.I got her to try different encryption methods and she says these did not work.Tried resetting the network stack.Tried flushing DNS.Made sure Obtain IP and DNS automatically are checked.Tried setting up a wireless connection manually.There may be other things i've suggested but cant remember at the moment as well.Connecting via an ethernet cable works so its definitely a wireless problem. Her phone works using the wireless network ok, its just the laptop.
