my laptop can never connect to the internet when a router is set to WPA. it can connect to the network but it wont let me use the internet. but if i change the router to WEP it will connect but i dont want to use WEP. i dont know whats wrong with my laptop and why it doesnt work with WPA. its a belkin router by the way
View 11 RepliesI started off with my dl speed around 2 years ago at about 210kbs. Not the best but because i live in a rural area i was happy enough. But now my connection has dropped massivly to 40kbs being the peak. The internet was faster in the stone ages -_-. Anyway, i want to figure out if its the wires in the area being faulty or as someone told me it might be my wireless router (Netgear). I'm trying to plug my laptop directly into the internet without the use of wireless to find out if it is the router being the problem. The only cable i could find an ethernet to ethernet cable. I've tried plugging into router and a bit that said modem and tried to set up a connection. It didnt work so connect my laptop to the internet without the wireless router.

After I connected the ethernet cable to the router and plugged everything in, I installed the program from the CD that it came with. After the whole process, it says "You are now connected to the internet!". Yeah well when I try to get on the internet, it suddenly takes the connection off. On my wifi status, it says it's not connected anymore. When I try to connect again, it says I'm connected, although if I get on internet explorer, it takes off the connection again. Though when it is connected, it says no internet connection available although I am connected to the router. So basically, I'm connected to the router, but not the router to the internet.

Xbox live connected via through the netgear router(access point), works great. Now i just recently bought a power cord for an old laptop, charged it, working fine. Its a Compaq laptop, with a vista OS. My problem is not finding the router and/or connecting to it. I just cant seem to access the internet. It shows local connection only with an unidentified network, but it shows my routers name(LOTUS). There is alittle red X in-between the unidentified network and the internet. I pulled off the ip config/all on the vista laptop.

I received a new hard drive along with recovery discs from dell yesterday. They told me the new drive would be blank and I would have to run the discs. Not a problem. Installed the OS along with the drivers that had check marks next to them.
Today I plug in my home internet and it won't work. Unplug it and turn the wireless back on and it gets online just fine.
I have a Dell and a Sony Vaio. My Dell is connected and works fine.My Sony cannot connect. It picks up the router but cant connect.

I can reset the internet, get about 10mins before it disconnects again. We have in total, 3 PC's, 3 laptops that use the internet. It's fine whenever that laptop is not on. I have tried the method of giving everything it's own IP incase it's an issue, but no change. Also tried the resetting anything simultanously etc.
