Oct 20, 2012I currently have Canon MX870 pixma printer - it is wifi enabled. A few weeks ago it went offline and I was able to reconnect it by entering the "access point" and password in printer control panel. It has once again gone offline however the printer cannot locate the access point by searching and when entered manually returns a message that it cannot locate the access point as entered. I am having the same problem with my TV which is also wireless connected, i.e., the TV is not connected to the internet and I cannot locate the network name (access point) in the setup menu on the TV. I had also previously reconnected the TV by entering the network name manually.
I tried looking in the router - Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 but cannot figure out where this information should be located. There is a setup tab in the router administration and both the Host name and the Domain name are blank. The router admin page states that: Host Name : Enter the host name provided by your ISP. Domain Name : Enter the domain name provided by your ISP. The wireless tab states: Status: SES Inactive. Does this mean anything?

I am using WPA for security. I can connect to the printer wirelessly through my neighbor's open system so it has something to do with security I suspect. I have enabled the AP feature and disabled it to see if that is an issue. That has not changed anything. Mar 21, 2011I have 2 desktops (running windows 7), a Canon MF8300 printer, and an outgoing ethernet line, all on a Netgear Advanced Cable Modem Gateway CGD24-CPR. I'm only concerned with having the 2 desktops set up with the Canon printer.Both computers have been connected to the printer before and I have the startup disk. But once the new offices were set up and both of the desktops were moved, I can no longer access or find the printer.
I can IPconfig the Desktops for their IPV4 addresses and both desktops recognize eachother on a Homegroup, but I can't find the printer. I printed off the print configuration page from the printer which gave me an IP address (printer is set for auto-obtain), but using an IP search won't bring up the printer.All of the devices are plugged into ethernet ports set up for the three different office they are in and the actual location of the Netgear cable modem/router is over 100 feet away. My primary concern is getting the printer for the desktops, but I also need to add a wireless router into one of those office in the future.

Jan 14, 2011We have 2 computers the main one running OS XP and mine running Vista. Previously, we had no problems with my computer finding the main on the network along with the printer. But now the main computer can see mine (printer and PC) but I cannot connect to the main. Mine does not see the printer nor the PC. We are both running the same virus protection, which is Norton. I really want to use the main computer's printer, which I was able to do until for some reason now I go into networking and it is not there. I know it is marked as shared. When I go into setup network printer and type the name of the printer a window pops up "The printer sever spooling service is not available". I have uninstalled the printer software and drivers and reinstalled but still not showing up on the network?
When I click print a document the printer I am looking for is there but it shows as offline, which it is not. I am not 100% sure but seemed to occur when we switched from Mckfee to Norton?

What I get is an error message that the printer is offline -- which it isn't; it's on. I tried going thru the setup on the printer, re-entering the SSID, and it said it was connected. Still same error that it's offline.
About a month ago, I did change the name of my router, but it never cause a problem with printing from my desktop, which I can still do. It's just the laptop that gets the "offline" error.What do I need to do to make the laptop recognize that the printer is on?
Can't Access Canon MP495 Printer Through Network
Apr 17, 2012My Canon MP495 3-in-1 inkjet XPS printer is connected through my mother's computer, and up until a few days ago I was able to print from it through our Home network. My mother can still print from it directly, so it is not a hardware issue. On my computer when I go to print, underneath the printer selection it says server offline. I have checked both computers and they are both on the Home network with all sharing options on. I can see her media and documents from my computer and she can see mine vise-versa. When I open the Network and Sharing Center and view the full network map, my mother's computer runs to a question mark then to the router, while mine is shown to be fine. When you click on the router within the map it brings up a page saying "Important Update. To avoid a conflict with your Internet Service Provider, your router's IP address has been updated to 10.0.0.1. You must now update the IP addresses in your router's configuration settings for each relevant service,such as port forwarding and IP address reservation." I do not know if this is the problem and it is starting to go beyond my realm of understanding. Also, possibly related, we had a bad storm that did NOT knock our power out, but the internet went down and we had to reboot the modems. This occurred right before the problems began. Last piece of information: We are going through 2 routers due to lack of jacks in the house. The line goes through the first router which connects to a second one in the back of the house. Both computers are linked to the second router, and it is the second router which shows on the network map. I go to an online college and it is necessary for me to access the printer.

Canon Mf4350d - Accessing Vista Shared Printer From Mac
Dec 5, 2011I am sharing a canon mf4350d printer installed on a vista home premium edition computer. I am trying to access it on an imac using osx 10.6.8. Below are the steps I have taken so far:
1. On vista machine in the control panel I have checked off the "share this printer" box in the printers properties.
2. In the registry of the Vista machine I have changed the value of lmcompatibilitylevel from 3 to 1 and then rebooted.
3. On the Imac in system preferences I opened "Print and Fax" and clicked "+" to add a printer.
4. I clicked on the "IP" button and set the "Protocol" to "Line Printer Daemon - LPD"; in the "Address" field I entered the IP address of the vista machine; In the "Print Using" I set to "Generic PCL Laser Printer".
When I try and print it can't connect to the printer and it does not print.
