I work for a company that buys used cisco equipment and we are trying to get a basic test center set up. What is the best way to perform basic router testing? We have been trying to come up with something for about 3 weeks and so far all we can do is get in the configuration and play around.
View 1 RepliesI am working at a client site today. The client has a large Frame Relay Hub Spoke network. The Hub is at the HQ location, and then there are about 15 spoke sites in remote offices.
We are having an issue with the frame between the HQ and one of the spokes. We are currently working with our dear friends at AT&T to troubleshoot the issue. AT&T yesterday was trying to run a local loop test to the router at the remote (spoke) end. We were working iwth them in trying to put the remote router (which we manage) into a loopback mode. We were trying to use controller commands

How can we put the subinterface that is the other end fo the frame into loopback mode so that a local loop test can be done between us and AT&T (provider)?
Has anyone tested QoS on the new E3000? Whenever I add an application (e.g. Voice Device) and set priority to Medium or High, my upstream bandwidth for everything else is immediately cut significantly, even when I'm not using the priority application.
For example, with QoS disabled, I can consistently get 10Mb upstream (speedtest.comcast.net). As soon as I enable QoS, upstream is capped to exactly 2Mb! On my old router, there was an option to set the total upstream bandwidth -- but on the E3000 there is no such option that I can find.
I have developing a utility which lets a user do the following :-
1)Identify the internet gateway device / router using uPnP
2)Check for the portmappings present in the gateway
3)Add / remove a port mapping from the gateway device
4)some other functions like loopback interface testing etc
Now , I need a router simulator (or any other way )which supports the following to test my work uPnP+ NAT +can be configured using SOAP XML messages although this is not a requisite as I am using Microsoft's SDK for uPnP ?Host 3 (or may be 4 is the RAM allows) virtual machines , connect them into a subnetwork using this software and then testing for the above requirements .
I have just bought my first non-domestic router, a CISCO 887VA-K9 which needs basic configuration to get it working. I have a copy of the configuration guide (334 pages) and CP Express user's guide (94 pages) and have spent an hour reading but either they are missing something or my brain is too small to figure out step 1. How to get started. Perhaps from where to download a CP Express installation kit for Windows.
Is the only way via a terminal emulator connected via a serial port ? Is there a graphical interface I can use ? Are there any basic tutorials for beginners ? This is probably the only non-domestic routrer I shall work on so I don't want to invest in a full training course. I just need enough to plug in the ISP credentials and set up DHCP.
Had no problem getting into IOS via Terminal and changing the host name, username and password. Then I loaded the Cisco CP Express onto a system and got into the web config. Problem is....the default IP is 10.10.10.1 / 255.255.255.248 and I wanted to change it to 192.168.1.1 / 255.255.255.0 I did it in the web interface and it applied to the router, but after that I could never bring up the web interface again on 192.168.1.1. Checking IOS showed that the new 192.168.1.1 did indeed "take". I even added an access list for the 192.168.1.0 network.

My neighbor is using my Belkin Router the basic one and has comcast. We both use his internet and have had no problems until the past 3 days. He just got the home phone service from comcast and the phone line is setup through the modem. Ever since comcast came to his apartment and set this up the home phone service to his modem the router is connected but there is no internet access. What is going on and how can I fix this. He has an HP with windows Vista and I have a Toshiba Satellite L675 that has Windows 7 Home premium edition on it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to change my password and all the settings on my WRT54G V8 router today because I forgot the password, and I can't seem to navigate the Basic Setup page. I can log in (most of the time) after resetting the router, but whenever I try to click on a different tab (like "Wireless", or "Security") it comes up with the page saying "This Page Cannot Be Displayed." I'd like to be able to put a password on it (which I have successfully done before on this router) because I live in a college dorm and would like to keep my internet from being bogged down by other people using it.

I have 5 public, static IP's provided by my ISP. I read on another page that to use the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th IPs, I must first 'register' them by entering them on the WAN page and I must wait until I can successfully PING them from an external network. Then I can set the WAN IP back to the one I want to use to administer the router. Then I can use those other IP's on the various Access Rules or Port Forwarding pages where there is a spot to enter 'alternate WAN IP address'. I'm trying to determine if this is true because I'm having a heck of a time getting port forwarding to work. My BIOS is 1.0.3.5.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to configure an ACE4710 to perform SSL end-to-end confguration. i.e. SSL termination - load balance - SSL initiate to backend server.The configuration appears to work fine in a test lab using any old web server, however when I peform the same configuration in the production environment it does not work. It appeatrs from a capture run on the ace that the ace is reseting the tcp connections after communicating with the back end server. The main difference I can think of in this environment is that the cert and key pair the ace is using where exported from the backend server, i.e. both the ace and the backend server have the same certificates and keys. Is this allowed? how to troubleshoot why the ace resets the connection.

I am slowly working my way though the setup and configuration of our new 4900m switch. The switch will have a pretty basic operational configuration. We are simply going to network 3 servers together through the swtich. Anyhow, I have been fallowing the guide at this site: [URL]
Basically the switch is brand new and I just setup things such as the clock, the banner, and the hostname. Anyhow, at various points in the guide such as the configuration of the telnet password and especially the interface gigabitethernet I get the "invalid input detected at '^' marker". I also did a show interfaces and noticed there was not any gigabitethernet interfaces but there was a

Anyhow, my thinking is continuing on with the guide and at least try to setup the interface for the management port so I can then use the cisco network assistant gui to then configure the rest of the switch.

We are in need to perform a site survey with the Aironet 1041N Access Point.
Upon reviewing the site survey software, it seems you need to use an Aironet adapter. However from what i can tell, all the Aironet adapters are PCMICA cards, which most modern laptops do not have, and the PCMICA cards that do exist don't have drivers for windows 7.
Are there USB adapters w/ Windows 7 drivers that can be used to perform a site survey?

I have a HWIC-1DSU-T1= in each of the routers. I am using NAT also in this configuration. It is a very simple build, basically stating that all traffic inbound on this sub-interface is to use a next hop of x.x.x.x
My testing is not working, but i need clarity on this. For different reasons, i am not able to tests with hosts on the relevant VLAN yet, as there is not. So i am testing on the local router using the sub-interface as the source IP. i.e. 'ping 8.8.8.8 souce int fa0/0.99' or telnet www.cisco.com 80 source fa0.0.99
Nat appears to be working, but my debug on ip policy is not showing any hits. Will my tests work when i am sourcing packets from the locally connected interface?
I have done a bunch of research in trying to re-use an old card/router for testing our new MPLS link. I have a 45m DS3 and was wondering if the PA-MC-T3= card will work UN-channelized. I have tried the "no channelized" command under the controller to no avail. I believe that the card only works for channelized T1's.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy company is moving the datacenter to our new building on Saturday, however the users will remain at the old building until late next month so they bought a 100M Metro E VPLS circuit through their ISP. I went to test it today but could not ping the workstation from my laptop. I wanted to do some bandwidth testing with iperf but could never get to that point because ICMP connectivity wasn't even there. From what I understand, VPLS is just a layer 2 extension so they way I'm testing the circuit below SHOULD work, but it isn't. Spoke with the ISP and they tested the circuit end-to-end on their equipment which was fine so am I missing something?
