Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5585 / Identity Firewall With Single Forest / Multi-Domain

Dec 28, 2011

I have a question with regard to setting up the ID firewall on the ASA 5585 in a single forest, multiple domain windows network.Currently I have a semi-operational IDF at the top level but can't find users on the lower other domains, here is the setup:I have 3 domains.

Both domains have a two way parent-child trust and I can look for users in AD Users/Computer on both domains.  I initially setup the ASA to look at using an LDAP aaa-server per the IDF instructions, and then proceeded to configure the ad-agent.  I installed the adagent on the domain controller configured the settings on that system and had no problem adding users to the firewall and getting functionality within domain1.  I looked to see if I could see domain 2 and domain 3 users and found none.  I went ahead and added the domain2 system to the adagent on the DC and the system says that it is up, but when I search for users is not pulling them from domain2.  Instead, it shows domain1 users as domain2user1.  I also configured another adserver in the ASA to search ldap on domain 2 to no avail.The cisco documentation states the following:•Before you configure even a single domain controller machine using the adacfg dc create command, ensure that the AD Agent machine is first joined to a domain (for example, domain J) that has a trust relationship with each and every domain (for example, domain D[i]) that it will monitor for user authentications (through the domain controller machines that you will be configuring on the AD Agent machine). Single Forest, Multiple Domains—All the domains in a single forest already have an inherent two-way trust relationship with each other. Thus, the AD Agent must first be joined to one of the domains, J, in this forest, with this domain J not necessarily being identical to any of the domains D[i] corresponding to the domain controller machines. Because of the inherent trust relationship between domain J and each of the domains D[i], there is no need to explicitly configure any trust relationships.Reading that it sounds like it should just work.  I had everything properly configured before I installed the adagent, but I'm guessing that there is a chance that you can't have the adagent on the top level DC and get to communicate with the lower level domains.

Cisco Firewall :: 5585 - BVI Doesn't Show Up In Multi Context ASA

May 7, 2013

I have an ASA 5585 in transparent mode, multi-context. It seems that the option to configure a BVI in one of the traffic contexts isn't there. In other words, while I see the option to configure a bridge group interface in the admin context, no such option comes up in the traffic context.

Cisco Firewall :: 5585 - Two Different Subnets Assigned To Single Bridge Group

Apr 9, 2013

We are deploying two Cisco 5585 in transparent mode and multiple contexts. they are running Active-Active fail over.
There are a lot of V LANs need to be added in the contexts, we are trying to use least contexts to fulfill.
ASA supports 8 bridge groups for each contexts, and maximum 4 interfaces for each bridge group.
We have assigned four interfaces in different V LANs , set two of them as a pair with one IP sub net and the other two interfaces are in another IP sub net.
For example :
Bridge group 1:
inside1  and  outside1    ------->
inside2  and  outside2    ------->
However, we can only make one sub net(V LAN pairs ) work when the BVI is set to that IP sub net. If the BVI set to, the inside1 and outside1, the other pair not work. If the BVI set, then only inside2 and outside2 work.
Since the BVI can only be assigned to either of the sub net, Is it possible to make both vlan pairs work ? Or we only can have one sub net in one bridge group ?

AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.2 - Joining Multi-DC Domain

Dec 21, 2010

I've just installed two ACS 5.2 appliances and I'm trying to get them to join my domain, I've setup an account that has the relevant permissions (tested the account on a laptop and it can join the machine to the domain).
The ACS keeps coming back with an invalid credentials to join the domain error despite the fact that I know the user in question has the correct permissions.
I have a suspicion that the problem is related to how the ACS handles the Active Directory Domain, we have a large domain that spans several domain controllers. The DNS server uses round robin DNS to serve a different DC's IP each time, however a typical windows laptop is aware of what controllers it's allowed to use whereas the ACS box doesn't appear to be.
The ACS servers are located in a network in the UK that is only allowed to talk to 2/6 DC's and I have no way of controlling what IP appears when the ACS tries to join the domain due to the round robin DNS.
Is there any way to get around this? Or any way to hard code a specific DC for the server to connect to? Even being able to add the DNS manually to a hosts file would work.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 Single Mode / Move To Multi Context Mode

Sep 16, 2012

I got an ASA 5510 system currently in single context mode, with CSC SSM installed. Single ISP uplink to internet, no VPN. And now customer would like add another ISP uplink, without invest another box for HA.What come across my mind is make the current box into multi context. There's some area i need to concern and also need yours perspective on it.
Question 1: For making the firewall into multi context, am i need to do it from scratch, issue mode multiple command. Then rebuilt the current production config into one of the context, then another context meant for the new IPS uplink, and one admin context?
Question 2: For CSC -SSM licensing requirement, model ASA 5510 with security plus license is able to support 2 context. So if i split my firewall like what i mention in question, what exactly number of context do i own (admin, context A, context B)?
Question 3: For CSC-SSM module in multi context mode, so the management port of CSC SSM must attach at admin context?
Question 4: After configured all the policy and traffic to scan, how exactly i should do in order apply this policy to the interface?  Should i only enable at admin context, then firewall service-policy rules, and apply it global, OR should i also do the same action on context A and Context B?

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.2 - AD Integrate With Single Domain Name With Multiple ADs

Sep 3, 2011

We having ACS version 5.2 0.26 with Active/Standby. We need to integrate active directory with ACS. Domain name given by Server team was as xyzcompy.local. When I tried to resolve the same domain name I got five servers ip address against the same domain name. however we given the ip reachability to only for two servers. We we try to save we get error saying that "Can not resolve the network address".
So my questions are;

- does ACS should have ip reachaibility to all five servers

- does the username/password we entered in the ACS should have domain admin rights?.

- the given AD is configured with windows NTP [URL] but when we configured ACS as windows NTP it was taking  local server as active NTP..?
When we check the ACS logs, we saw the following error;

in acsLocalStore:
AdminName=acsadmin, DomainName=qatarconvention.local, ADOperationResult=unable to create secured connection against AD server, switching to non-secured connection. javax.naming.CommunicationException: simple bind failed: qnccad02.xxxxconvention.local:636 [Root exception is Connection reset],
in ACSADAgent;
32484]: INFO  dns.findsrv FindSrvFromDns failed: res_query failed _ldap._tcp.xxxxconvention.local
Sep  4 12:43:20 acs01-cc4 adjoin[32484]: INFO  cli.adjoin Join to domain 'xxxxconvention.local', zone 'null' failed.
I attached some screen print which saw the error and output of nslookup for the domain name.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 / Multiple VLANs Behind Single Firewall Segment?

Feb 5, 2012

I need to create a firewalled segment that not only separates hosts from general population, but also from each other.  The solitary confinement of firewalled segments.I know that I could create a bunch of sub-interfaces, one for each host or group that needs to be isolated, but I'd really rather not have to do that if possible.  1) It could become a management nightmare between ACLs and sub-interfaces and 2) it's a waste of IP addresses.s there any way that I can create a bunch of separate VLANs behind the firewall and have them all terminate at the firewall, using a single firewall IP address for the gateway?
VLAN 1 - hosts and 2 - hosts
Firewall DMZ Interface - 3 - hosts and

This way, the hosts are isolated and can't talk to each other unless they're on the same VLAN.I'm working with an ASA 5510 running 8.2.4(4).

Cisco Firewall :: 5585 - Design ASA Connecting To Two Switches

Sep 15, 2011

ASA design. I have two Cisco ASA 5585 which are connecting to two Nexus 7K. I looked at one design and it seems I can make Redundant interfaces on ASA and put two physical interfaces (Link1-1/1-2) into it however the down side I can see is it will utilize one link out of 4 at one time. As per my understanding if I make redundant interface on ASA 1 and put 1-1/1-2 into it only one link would be active at one time. This will force Nexus2 to send all traffic to Nexus 1 in order to reach ASA. Ideally I want a solution where both switches could send traffic straight to Active Firewall and incase of failure both links to standby firewall.
