Cisco Firewall :: Configuring Inbound Access On ASA 5520

Dec 18, 2011

I have successfully been able to allow outbound access from inbound hosts  on the appliance; however, I have only one outbound IP address and had to configure outbound access using static PAT.  What I need to do is to configure access to certain inbound hosts from outside.  What's wrong with my running config?  Below are the commands that I believe need to be changed from the configuration. [code]

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 Inbound Traffic On Backup ISP Connection

Nov 3, 2011

I have a client that has an ASA 5520 that has two internet connections, FIOS and Comcast.  The ASA is configured to failover from the FIOS to the Comcast if the FIOS fails.  This works perfectly fine.  However, I was wondering if VPN and other inbound traffic will come into the secondary connection when it is active.  I think VPN will work inbound when the FIOS connection fails, but I am not sure about the other inbound connections.

In looking at my current ASA config I see other access lists already configured so I'm assuming I can just set up a new access list in similar fashion, but I wanted to verify here first.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 Configuring Active Standby High Availability

I am managing them with ASDM 6.4(5).I am trying to setup Active/Standby using the High Availability Wizard. I have interfaces on each device setup with just an IP address and subnet mask. Primary is 10.1.70.1/24 and secondary is 10.1.70.2/24. The interfaces are connected to a switch and these interfaces are the only nodes on this switch. When I run the Wizard on the primary, configure for Active/Standby, enter the peer IP of 10.1.70.2 and I get an error message saying that the peer test failed, followed by an error saying ASDM is temporarily unable to connect to the firewall.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 - NAT And Firewall Access Control

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 Difference Between Access Rules And ACL / ACE?

Nov 2, 2011

We are moving from a different vendor to ASA 5520s. So far my "training" for Cisco consists of s  Cisco press book, some white papers and guides, this website, and a bunch of mistakes. So, I have what is probably a pretty basic question for most folks.

What is the difference between Firewall Access Rules and ACL/ACE? And when to use which?

for example: on my ASA 5520s I've set up an Interface for my internal LAN: 172.16.x.x., a DMZ 192.168.2.0/24, and an interface for the Internet side. The 5520 is set up as a routing firewall betwen my internal lan, DMZ, and Internet.

If I want to allow my internal users Internet access for http and https would I use a Firewall Access rule?For most of my rules allowing outbound access from my 172 LAN and DMZ and inbound access to devices in my DMZ can I mostly utilize the Firewall Access Rules?

Cisco Firewall :: Basic ASA 5520 To Allow Access From Internet

Jan 17, 2013

I've got what is probably a very basic question - but i can't figure it out.I have: Internet (ADSL) -> 2851 (ADSL wic) -> 5520 -> internal LAN (192.168.1.x/24)

The asa has just replaced a Checkpoint firewall.I've set up the ASA to the point where all hosts on the internal LAN have internet access (using a dynamic PAT on that network).  This all works well.

The problem i have is i am trying to allow access from the internet to an internal host on a specifc TCP port (as i had done on the Checkpoint) but i'm getting:

Asymmetric NAT rules matched for forward and reverse flows; Connection for tcp src outside:111.111.111.11/52135 dst inside:192.168.1.252/5555 denied due to NAT reverse path failure

From what i have read i need to add a NAT exemption for this particular use case - to avoid the dynamic NAT i have setup, but im not sure how to do so.I'm running 9.1 on the ASA, no VPNs yet.  Just this basic setup.

Whatever i put in INSIDE_LAN_in ACL, remote users still have full access to this network. Restrictions in REMOTE_split ACL don't work either.

Cisco Firewall :: Dual ISP And Inbound NAT ASA5505 8.2

Oct 30, 2012

I have setup an ASA5505 running 8.2 with dual ISP's

Primary link is the current live static route out and the backup picks up if the primary fails. That all works great However I have an issue with inbound NAT rules

I have configured an inbound static on the primary which works great

static (inside,primary) *.*.*.* 10.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 access-list outside_access_in line 2 extended permit tcp any host *.*.*.* eq 3389 (hitcnt=4)

Question? With the primary link active and the default route pointing out through the primary, am I able to configure an inbound NAT to the same inside host 10.1.1.1
on the backup link?

If the primary fails users will need to be able to connect inbound to this service

When I try to set it up I got this error ERROR: Static PAT using the interface requires the use of the 'interface' keyword instead of the interface IP address

So I tried that and got this error WARNING: All traffic destined to the IP address of the backup interface is being redirected. WARNING: Users will not be able to access any service enabled on the backup interface.

So what is the best practice for configuring inbound NAT for a dual ISP configured ASA
