We are using FWSM with software version 4.1(6) with failover and multi contexts.We need to generate and send mail notifications when failover occurs.
With this configuration we are receiving syslog only! [code]
I think I got a strange behavior on a context of my WS-SVC-FWM-1 (on a Catalyst 6509 running IOS 12.2(18)SXF17a) that is running FWSM Firewall Version 4.1(3). This context sends these log messages every ten minutes:
Jul 17 2011 23:31:16: %FWSM-6-302010: 0 in use, 0 most used
Jul 17 2011 23:31:17: %FWSM-6-302010: 2245 in use, 107133 most used

If I issue the "show conn" three seconds later the log message, the output I got is: FWSM# sh conn 1041 in use, 107133 most used
In another context on the same FWSM the log message sent every ten minutes is just this one:
Jul 17 2011 23:31:17: %FWSM-6-302010: 1358 in use, 72503 most used
Jul 17 2011 23:41:22: %FWSM-6-302010: 1590 in use, 72503 most used
In this case there is no the log message where the "in use" field and "most used" field are 0 (zero). why does the context send the message with the "in use" field and "most used" field 0 (zero).

Firstly is this the right forum to post threads about FWSM's. We have 2 FWSM's in two seperate 6500 switches. There are a number of contexts on each FWSM.I want to fail a context from one FWSM over to the other 6500 and FWSM. Can you tell me how I can do that? Do I need to do it in the admin context and do I need to do it on the admin context of each 6500?

I have a TL-MR3420 router placed in a remote location. The internet connection is via 3G, and since the telco is shifting the IP every 24 hours, the router is configured with DDNS from no-ip.org. This is working OK most days, but sometimes the DNS fails to update. To be able to trobleshoot it, I am trying to make my router send a mail with the logfile every hour. This function seems to be easy and out-of-the-box, but it doesn't wiork. Whenever I try to mail the log I get the error message "Fail to Connect the mail server.".
It is not possible to enter another SMTP-port, so I asume the standard port 25 (like this thread). Most ISP-mail services require SSL/TLS and/or use an alternative port, so I have made my own server. This server is visible on the Internet, and I (and others) are able to connect and send mails using smtp on port 25. But, still my remote TL-MR3420 keep saying "Fail to Connect the mail server.". I have tried nearly everything, including disabling authentication and giving the IP-address of the smtp server directly instead of the URL.
on the reporting tab, a button gives access to the log. Is it possible to retrieve this log file in order to submit it to a specialist ?

I followed the procedure on Configuring Cisco Devices to Use a Syslog Server from [URL] Our Cisco swtches are all sending syslog messages but not the routers. I compared the config with our access switches but can't seem to find the problem:

is there a command that prevents the router from sending the syslog to the server?
I had this problem since I installed this game (GTA San Andreas). So, I found that it keep auto alt tab when I play GTA only. Not other game. When I restart, it is gone. and will occurs when I open GTA. So, i try to scan and delete the game and the problem fixed. Still, when I install FiFa 2011, it is also happening. So, I deleted the game but the problem didnt fixed. Well, I also download Sims 3. and when I play the game, I tried to remove my Tenda Wireless reader, then the auto alt tab is no more occurs. So, it seems like I have to play games without using internet. Which means I can't play online games. So, I am telling you guys that I am having problem with auto alt tab/ losing focus when playing game/using programs like google chrome. So, what should I do for know? I think it might cause of my Tenda Wireless Reader? I'll try to use wire into my wifi then.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have 2 FWSM modules in each 6500 switches. 1st module is having 04 firewall vlan groups with 18 vlan interfaces in a single context firewall. All are working fine with no issues. Recently we create one more vlan on MFSC and add into the same firewall module. However newly created vlan inside the FW is not able to communicate with outside and also outside users not able to reach newly created subnet. But within the firewall zones (other interfaces) it can communicate. Once we did packet capture we noticed that its hitting firewall outside interface only and when we ping we got TTL expired error. we have default routes to outside and there's no any route inside as new segment is within the firewall (no any hop).
I guess there's no limitation on number of vlans that we can assign on one firewall eventhough there is a limitation for number of vlan-group which is 16 max (but we are within that limit).
I've been taught/under the impression that vlans and stp stay in the access layer to prevent bridging loops and broadcast storms from taking down the whole network. Well I was reading about backbonefast and how it "Enables fast convergence in the networkbackbone or core layer switches after a spanning-tree topology change occurs." Now I thought that from the distribution layer up we use a routing protocol.

Last night I switched out our old Cisco pix 515 with a asa 5505. The config is the same and internet and outgoing mail is working but no mail is coming in. Below is a copy of my config. Why my inbound mail is not coming in.
smtp 192.168.51.248 (Barracuda email filter)pop3 192.168.50.11 (exchange server). Tried to telnet into the firewall but connection timed out. Went to mxtool box and that also timed out while trying to connect to smtp. Port scan from mxtool box timed out too on all ports.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue where our RV042 router is blocking some of our customers from sending us e-mails.I noticed thatCISCO has produced a newer version of the RVO42 V3.0 and has firmware version 4.x. can you upgrade the Linksys RV042 Hardware V 1.2 to the 4.x firmware? I have found a few articles and forums online about otherpeople having the same issue with the RV042 v1 randomly blocking, e-mail but no one ever has a solution to correct the issue.Some people have recommend to roll back to factory default and reconfigure the router as the config may by corrupt.

In this setup I’ve enabled port forwarding on my ADSL router (port 25 and 110) and configured the ASA accordingly, and my mail server is located inside my network.

I am having an issue with an ASA 5510, running 8.4(1) code, causing outbound mail to remain in the SMTP server queue (Exchange 2007). This only happens with some remote mail servers. The connection usually ends with the remote server eventually sending a TCP reset.
I've taken multiple inside and outside packet traces.Other trace's contain either X's preceding various sections of the stream content or all X's in the content. The X's only appear when inspection is enabled.
Disabling inspection is the only thing that seems to allow mail to flow. I find this curious because I'm running this same ESMTP policy on other ASA's. However, they are on 8.3 code.
Most everything I find when searching on this subject says to disable ESMTP inspection. [code]
We started getting the below syslog messages from one of our ASA5520 which was recently upgraded to 8.4(2). Any bugs on 8.4(2) that cause this or its simply the RAM failure?
