Cisco Firewall :: VLAN Communication On ASA5510?
Aug 10, 2012
I have a working environment but wondering if there is just a better way to accomplish what I am trying to do (without a layer 3 or 4 switch). Basically I have a few sub interfaces on my Cisco ASA5510.
Now what I do need is some of the VLANs to communicate with specific devices on the different VLANs. So for example I need computer 1 from VLAN 5 to communicate with 192.168.10.5 from VLAN 10 on ports 80 and 443.
What I am currently doing is settings the security level to 100 on each interface (including the DMZ).
Here is what I have:
interface Ethernet0/1.5
vlan 5
nameif Sub5

I have created a new DMZ and a LAN on my ASA5510.My Ethernet DMZ port is connected directly to a server (192.168.220.10) This server is able to get to the internet properly.Gateway ASA router: 192.168.220.222..My Ethernet LAN port is connected to a L3 switch, This L3 switch is connected to a server (192.168.210.11). This server is able to get to the internet properly. My issues is that I cannot communicate from my 192.168.210.11 server to my DMZ server 192.168.220.10. From my 192.168.210.11 server I can ping my gateway 192.168.210.1 and 192.168.210.222. But I cannot ping 192.168.220.222. [code]

I'm facing a problem with two vlans. Each vlan has internet access by NAT.
In each vlan there is at least one server, who should be accessible from the other vlan and vice versa.
The function "same-security-traffic permit inter-interface" doesn't work, because NAT control is in place - so an expert.
Some experts told me it's not possible to route back out the same interface, and also not route back out the seperate subinterfaces as well.

I've recently segmented my network and part of the process was creating a DMZ VLAN. I'm running ESXi 5 and have created two new VM's to add to this DMZ to begin the process of moving everything public facing to the new VLAN. At this point they new hosts will not communicate with each other, their gateway, and of course not the public internet. To get the first out of the way, they are configured according to VMWare's VLAN guide: I have created a new vSwitch port group on the host and assigned them to the VLAN id 11 for the DMZ VLAN, and have the switchport on the switch (3560) setup as trunk in dot1q mode with all vlans tagged. The management VLAN is also NOT the default VLAN 1, so that is not causing any issues. My other server segment VLAN is working fine on the same ESXi host/s, so this does not seem to be the issue.
On the network side of things I have my ASA connecting to a 3560 with two interfaces, one for "inside", one for "dmz."Is this below correct? I feel like the static route should be route dmz with a gateway to 10.0.1.1..
_ASA_
interface Ethernet0/2
nameif dmz
security-level 50
ip address 10.0.1.1 255.255.255.0
route inside 10.0.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.201.2 1 <- (192.168.201.2 is my 3560)
[code]....

I have a customer who has vlan's and SVIs residing on a core 6509. the 6509 is connected to an ASA 5515 then out to the internet/sp edge deviceIP routing is not turned on. there is a static route on the 6509 that routes all ip's to the inside interface of the asa 5515 that the 6509 core is connected to.there is a set of vlans that are apart of a 192.168.128.0/19 subnet and all those vlans can "speak" to each other.

Say I have a managed switch that supports VLANs. I have two computers and one server connected to the switch (I'll call them PC-1, PC-2, and SRV-1).Without routing, I want both PC-1 and PC-2 to talk to SRV-1 and vice versa, however I don't want PC-1 or PC-2 to talk to each other.I achieve this by making each port a trunk port. I make PC-1 a member of VLAN 2, PC-2 a member of VLAN 3, and SRV-1 a member of VLAN 4. The port that SRV-1 is on I make a tagged member of PC-1 and PC-2 (VLAN 2 and 3 respectively) and make the ports the PCs are on a member of the SRV-1 VLAN (VLAN 4).Everything tests OK (that is, the clients can't talk to each other, however the clients can individually talk to the server)

we have an SG300 latest 1.3 firmware, we have it acting as our DHCP server, we have a 10.10.1.x range, 10.10.3.x range, and 192.168.24.x range, they are all on seperate VLANs and all can talk to each other which is what we want. However we have someone who wants to use the 192.168.1.x range to add IP cameras to our network using there own switch. I figured I'd just setup our server to do DHCP etc and it would communicate with the 10.10.1.x range of IP addresses no problem. It turns out the SG300s can't do DHCP for that range, so if he has all static address on the 192.168.1.x range how can i setup inter VLAN communication so we can talk to that range?

In my lab setup i configured Cisco 3560 switch.
-VLAN 20 and VLAN 30 i configured.
-VLAN 20 interface IP : 192.168.20.1/24
-VLAN 30 interface IP : 192.168.30.1/24.
Inter-vlan communication is happening fine. For testing for purpose i configured extended ACLs.i want stop communication from VLAN 30 to VLAN 20 but not vice-versa. If i ping from one of the IP VLAN 20 to one of the ip of VLAN 30, i was gettng Requested time out. And if i ping from one of the IP VLAN 20 to VLAN 30 interface IP, i was able get pinging. From VLAN 30 to VLAN 20, i was getting destination host unreachable from VLAN 30 ip( Its fine as its my requirement)So, solution needed to communicate from VLAN 20 to VLAN 30.

I have a Cisco ASA 5510 configured to access the internet, with an:
inside interface (ethernet 0/1) 130.130.0.254 and outside interface (ethernet 0/0) x.x.x.x
I have now configured another inside interface (ethernet0/2) on ASA with the IP 172.16.0.254 and I have connected it directly to another switch with a management IP 172.16.0.5.
The problem is that the two inside interfaces (130.130.0.254 &172.16.0.254) cannot communicate with each other thus the e0/2 172.16.0.254 interface cannot access the internet.

Recently, I deployed ASA 5520 as our company firewall, everything was working fine except two main problem I still can not resolve them after I did a lot of research.
1. DNS rewriting - The internal user can not access the DMZ or internal server by put in the domain or external ip address. such as [URL] will resolve our wan ip address 210.0.0.83 ( internal ip address is 192.168.1.21 ).I used static (inside,Outside) tcp 210.0.0.83 https 192.168.1.21 https netmask 255.255.255.255 dns, but it will not work. We have our internal DNS server, but don't want to just add the domain as a record. Is there anyway to get the internal user to access Internal server and DMZ server through the public domain?
2. We also have an internal multiple subnet, another router was conneting to ASA firewall inside interface and using ip address 192.168.1.223, another subnet 10.1.15.16/28 is behind the this router, for the users in subnet 192.168.1.0/24, they connect firewall inside interface directly.I added an static route and intra-interface permit route inside 10.1.15.16 255.255.255.240 192.168.1.223 1same-security-traffic permit intra-interface I also added access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.15.16 255.255.255.240access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 10.1.15.16 255.255.255.240 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0nat (inside) 0 access-list inside_nat0_outbound The internal users on 192.168.1.0/24 can ping 10.1.15.18 but can not telnet to 10.1.15.18 22. If I set 192.168.1.223 as one of the workstation on 192.168.1.0/24 default gateway, it can telnet to 10.1.15.18 22 without any problem.

As this is an ASA 5505, unlimited users, I must use arp alias to allow a secondary network.
Inside network: 10.200.31.0/24.Additional inside network: 10.200.12.0/24
Clients in both networks can reach internet, but they can't communicate with eachother. Hosts on the additional network can ping the ASA inside network IP, but nothing else. I get incomming hitcount for inside interface when 10.200.12.x tries to ping 10.200.31.x. In the error log, I see: [code]

I am running a /24 network in Active Directory with my ASA acting as gateway and firewall. Standard interfaces (Ethernet 0/0 as outside, Ethernet 0/1 as inside)
As of now I have no VLans set up, but I need to setup wireless Internet access for guests... I need directions on how to setup a Vlan with its on DHCP for these aguests... I can then make sure that my APs can be pointed to the same VLAN... I am not familiar with CLI, have generally used ASDM. I am currently running ASDM 6.3(1) on an ASA with version 8.3(1).
This is something I need to do quickly as we are expecting 20-40 "guests" shortly, and I don't want them to use our internal DHCP server addresses.

I am setting up a network that will use the 1941 router with a cellular card (HWIC) to connect to the Internet for communication with remote stations in the field. The 1941 has a static IP address (166.142.xxx.yyy) on the Internet provided by the ISP (Verizon). The 1941 is connected via ethernet to the ASA5510. The end goal is to have the field cell routers (Digi Transport WR-44-R, also static IP) connect to the ASA5510 via VPN tunnels for communication back to the servers behind the firewall. I'm not sure exactly how to configure the 1941 so that the remote router can connect to the ASA using the public IP of the 1941 router. I have the 1941 working stand alone and can connect to the Internet and pass traffic, but I tried a static NAT to translate the public IP to the private IP of the ASA and cannot pass traffic. below is part of the 1941 configuration: [code]
Do I need to use VLAN bridging to accomplish the task or am I missing something with the NAT?

I have an ASA 5510 and would like to extend one of the subnets behind this ASA out to my house that has a cable modem, a wireless router/switch and then behind that I have a 2821 router. I've been reading and it looks like L2TP may be the way to go but can't find and config examples. Again, I would like to securely extend one and nail up a permanent connection of one of the VLANs in the production network all the way into my house using my cable modem and the 2821. Any config examples! Also, any IOS recommendations for the 2821. Lastly, does L2TP look like the way I need to go? I'm attaching a very basic Visio diagram of what I'm trying to do.

We have 6509 VSS with FWSM Module and we have created two context on it, one is INTERNALL CONTEXT othe is EXTERNALL Context? We have spanned various VLANS in switches and FWSM context level. All VLAN Gateways are configured in context level.
Activity description : We had planned migration of these devices into a new Datacenter, it was a planned activity. During migration of devices from one Dc to a new DC we broke the VSS and kept the primary running and removed the secondary switch and migrated this secondary to new DC and powered this device ON in the new DC and checked all the config was very much fine but this device was OFF network as secondary was brought to new DC just to limit the downtime during the primary switch movement.
During the activity ( Primary switch movement )We powered off the Primary switch and mean time before shifting into new Data center We had brought up secondary switch which was already existing in the DC was put live in the network and it was working fine without any issues.
Later we had moved Primary into new data center and tried to put into VSS with the secondary , during this period the secondary device into went into RECOVERY MODE and primary device was not responding and devices went off network and immediatly we removed the VSL link and brought up primary into production network without secondary online in the network ( Without VSS just stand alone switch ) network started working, but bringing up the primary we found that some of the VLANS in the FWSM was deleted and some VLAN had misconfiguration ( example : say original VLAN ip 10.200.112.1 has become 10.300.13.1 ) also some of the access list as well as SVI was deleted making configuration mismatch.
Wanted to know while syncronization b/n primary and secondary switch in VSS if we pull out VSL link would create this type of issues.

I have two ASA5510's set up in failover, and the secondary keeps crashing after doing the interface checks when bringing failover up. This only happens if I try to upgrade the image on the secondary to anything newer than 8.4.1 (I've tried with 8.4.1-11 and 8.4.2). The primary one run just fine with new images.
I don't have the exact error right now, as I need to do a screen capture from console. It's just a huge crash dump. Are there anything I might have missed during the upgrade? Should I cold-boot both the firewalls in the correct order?

I have a ASA5510 and I have a question about the speed the ports can handle, here is one port:
-interface Ethernet0/2
- speed 100
-shutdown
- no nameif
-no security-level
-no ip address
it's ethernet and not fastethernet so I figure it will only go to 10Mbps, but at the same time I can hard code the speed to 100.

We have to use scp on all of our network devices. It worked quite well on our routers and switches but I can't seem to get it to work for the firewalls and IPS. I enabled scp on my ASA5510 using the command "ssh scopy enable". I also ensured that a rsa key was generated and that ssh ver 2 was enabled. But I can't seem to locate the commands to actually have my firewall either copy it's configuration to a server or reach out to a server to pull down a file. We are using IOS 8.2(1).
