Cisco WAN :: Community Tags Between EBGP AS200 / AS100?

Oct 10, 2012

I would like to know how long a route would maintain its community tag when it traverses ***?Basically, a route is tagged 100:1000 when exiting AS100, and then accepted into AS200. AS200 will not modify the tag. Would AS200 export the route to AS300 with the same 100:1000 tag?

Cisco WAN :: AS100 / Multiple Upstream EBGP Peers?

Nov 11, 2012

I am imagining a smallish networking (AS1234) with say three full BGP table peers that provide transit to the network (just to keep the maths simple here); Lets say AS100 and AS200 are preferred transit providers with AS300 as a backup/least prefered (AS prepends or similar stop us from using this network by default). So in this scenario our little network gets two different paths across the Internet, as not to rely solely on one provided, with a backup provider to hand also.

How do you mange issues like packet loss somewhere in AS100's or AS200's network? So lets say a host on our AS1234 network is talking to host in AS888 and the preferred route is through AS100 but somewhere deep in AS100 a link is flapping (for example) and I can't get to AS888 reliably through there anymore, but I can through to other peers of AS100 OK. We can postulate that AS100 is the best path for 50% of the Internet and AS200 for the other 50% (this is a best case fictional scenario). I can't ping 50% of the internet via AS100 and then in the event a ping fails (or some other more reliable test) tear down the BGP session to use AS100 until it's fixed again, nor vice versa with AS200.

First of all, I asume you don't know about the issue between AS100 and AS888 until someome moans about it to you? Secondly, do you then some how modify the route(s) to AS888 that come from AS100 (route map for example to change the weight or preference) so AS200 is now preferred for AS888? Do you infact shut down the AS100 peering and now use AS200 & AS300? How do you rectify these situations that are beyond you control using what is in your control?

Cisco WAN :: 1921 OSPF To Two Routers Sending Default Route From Failover

May 28, 2013

Have a 1921 that has 3 eth connections (1 LAN, and 2 WAN) - I have 2 seperate OSPF processes (2 areas) on the WAN Ints - both upstream WAN's are sending defaults back to the 1921, and the 1921 is sending it's LAN range to them.

I have ip ospf cost 150 set on the "failover" WAN connection interface (Both on the 1921 and upstream), but the 1921 is preferring the default route from the "failover"?

The default routes are both being received by the 1921, but it's preferring the "failover" Int with the ip ospf cost 150 configured?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 / How To Hide All IPs Behind An Interface

Dec 17, 2012

We use filter rules on an ASA5510 firewall to direct clients to a web filtering server which generally works very well.  However lately we're finding that despite having more web filtering licenses than users, the web filtering licenses are being consumed up, mainly because of a recent increase in the rollout of ipads, iphones, androids etc. We  could deploy a proxy server in the wireless DMZ to make all the  wireless devices appear to web filter as a single IP, and apply a single  policy, but that brings it's own problems. My question is: Is there a way to hide them all behind the interface IP instead, so that all wireless devices appear to the web filter on the LAN as the wireless dmz interface IP rather than the wireless device IP?

Cisco VPN :: L2L VPN With Static NAT To Hide Internal IPs On 1841 ISR?

Mar 14, 2011

I have configured a L2L VPN on a Cisco 1841 ISR.  I am statically NATing some of my internal hosts to IP addresses that are included in the encrypted traffic.  Please note that not all of the internal hosts are being NATed.  I am doing this to hid some of the real IP addresses on the inside network.  I have confirmed that the VPN works, as well as the NATing of the VPN traffic.  I have traditionally configured L2L VPNs on Cisco ASA 5500 series appliances, and this is my first attempt with the 1841 ISR.  I just want other to take a look a see if I missed anything, or, could I have done some of the configuration more efficiently.  All comments are welcome.

Cisco Infrastructure :: ADSL Disconnects On 800 Series Routers

Mar 21, 2012

We have deployed a number of 800 series routers for some of our clients and have found that in many cases they seem to disconnect at an excessive rate. When I connected to the console of one the other day I could see that the virtual-interface for the ADSL connection was down, but not the ATM or DSL interface. If I disconnected the cable and reconnected the virtual-circuit came back up momentarily before disconnecting within a minute.

If I switched off the router for a few minutes and powered it back on it would usually remain up for a few hours. I reconfigured the router again using exactly the same config and it seemed to stay up for quite long periods for 4 or 5 days before reverting to type. [code]

Cisco Infrastructure :: 2811 / 1841 / WIC-1AM-V2 - Setup POTS Dial Connection Between 2 Routers?

Jun 17, 2012

I would like to set up a POTS Dial connection between 2 Cisco routers, using the modem card WIC-1AM-V2. I'd like to use this as an out-of-band connection to a remote site, if the primary internet connection fails. So, this setup will only be used in one direction, 1 router placing calls, the other one receiving calls. Here's my config of the receiving router:

chat-script dial "" ATZ AT OK "ATX3D T" ATS0=8 TIMEOUT 120 CONNECT C
interface Async0/2/0 description out of band for network no ip address encapsulation slip async mode interactive
line 0/2/0 session-timeout 5 absolute-timeout 10 script connection dial login local modem InOut transport input all escape-character BREAK autoselect ppp stopbits 1 speed 115200 flowcontrol hardware

[code]....

This config is working fine, when dialing in via a Windows Hyperterminal Dial connection. After a while of dialing I get the login prompt of the router. Now I want to have a router placing calls instead of a Windows Server. I can't figure out how to tell a router to place calls to a POTS phone number.

Receiving router: 2811, WIC-1AM-V2, IOS c2800nm-ipbasek9-mz.124-25a
Calling router: 1841, WIC-1AM-V2, IOS c1841-advsecurityk9-mz.124-25a

Cisco :: Presenting Public IP To ASA Over OSPF?

Oct 29, 2012

I will be provided with /29 public IP address from my ISP. The idea is to run OSPF between ISP and my ASAs over private IPs so /29 is presented to ASA. This is because I will be using 5 out 6 available IPs on my ASA so I cannot use them on the routers.I need to run HA in Active/Standby mode on ASA, terminate site-to-site and remote access VPNs on ASA, and use static NAT for kit in DMZ network I am trying to figure out how to present this public IP range on ASA. Should I create two subinterfaces on physical interface towards OSPF area and assigned private IP address on one of them for OSPF and public IP on another and then setup a failover on each subinterface.

Cisco :: Backup WAN Connections With OSPF?

Feb 11, 2013

implement backup WAN links to complement the metro Ethernet links we currently use so we have some redundancy. These will most likely be a VPN over an Internet service but might be another Ethernet type service, the medium shouldn't really matter I wouldn't think. What I am looking for input on is what is the best way to implement this? Would I just set costs so that the backup is only used when the primary goes down, or should I create new OSPF area for the backup links?

Currently the core switches that are also our routers are 3750G stacks running ip services. We are getting ready to install new firewalls at each location that will become the gateways for the vlans currently on the core switches to give us much more control over segmentation, and because of this I am thinking that it may make sense to then move the OSPF instance from the core to the firewalls. In the drawing I did not show the access layer switches off of the core, and the MOE circuits actually terminate into a 3550-12T switch before the core. I think I will actually eliminate those 3550-12T switches and go straight into the core. This is a current state drawing, so does not include the backup links I am planning.
