Home Network :: Virtual Servers On One IP Address
Aug 6, 2012I have one dedicated IP issued to my home, along with another dynamic one if I need it(but I don't use it). I have a webserver, mail server, and name server up and running on a single machine exposed to the internet with my static IP. I have a domain name registered to my IP address. My webserver and name server work great, but I am having difficulty with the mail server. In order to have mail work correctly, I have been told that I need to get reverse DNS setup for my domain (something I had neglected to do). My nameserver responds to reverse lookups correctly when issued locally, but it looks like queries from the internet never reach it (I think my ISP catches requests upstream). I contacted them and they put a PTR record in for my IP pointing to ns1.mydomain.com. This all works fine, but the thought occurred to me that if in my hosts file I put my MX record in as mail.mydomain.com., any mail clients that do a reverse lookup of my IP won't get mail.

Mar 3, 2013I recently installed VMplayer on my Win 7 machine, and I installed Win XP on the VM. So far everything seems to work fine. However, on my home network I have a Linksys NSLU2 mini network server which has a flash drive plugged in that contains my files that I access from any of my home PC's. No problem accessing it from the Win 7 machine, but when I try to setup a "new network place" on the XP system, I get an error telling me that the address is not valid.

But the problem is when I access my IP from WAN, It connects to Router Control Panel, I have set DMZ IP as 192.168.1.2 which is the my computer where I have the Server set-up.
Now I've disabled DMZ but still I can access to my router from WAN through my IP.

May 12, 2012Customer is running LMS 2.6.Scheduled backup was running perfect. But it is no more happening.When we checked we found that the "License Manager/ Deamon Manager is down" message pop ups.
We reset the casuser password, and then restarted the services. It becomes ok.But only the immediate backup is successful. Scheduled task fails for all those devices."License Manager/ Deamon Manager is down" happens quite often.
Home Network :: Advanced Home Network Setup (3 Subnets) And Port Forwarding?
Feb 24, 2013I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc).The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:
- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface
Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range.That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.
- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.
- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.
Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.
Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)
Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).
No LAN In Network Connections Device Manager
Apr 20, 2011I just recently got the internet and I have a desktop computer that has ever rarely been used and it has never had the internet on it. I called tech support of my ISP to see what many be the problem why I can't connect to the internet and found that the source of the problem was I do not have a LAN network connection. When I open Network Connections on the computer, nothing is there. I also went to device manager and there is nothing there for Networking. Under category of "Other Devices" in Device Manager there is a question mark next to "Ethernet Controller". Are there drivers or something I need download to fix this so I can connect to the internet via a DSL connection.
My computer specs are:
Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Mar 27, 2013I am looking for a "no marketing babble" explanation of what exactly Cisco Prime Infrastructure does, that the built in 5508 Wifi administration console and Cisco Network Assitant does not do.I already use the "Cisco UC560 Configuration Assistant", the "Cisco Network Assistant" for our switches, and the "Wifi 5508 web admin console", and I am fine with that.At another site where I work, that is now going with Cisco Wifi, it is suggested that "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" be purchased.Is it important to me to have a "single pane of glass" view of the entire network? NO IT IS NOT.
All this marketing babble about having everything converged and accessible for mobile BYOD users. Yeah, that's great, but what is Cisco Prime Infrastructure actually going to do about all the mobile wifi devices coming in to the network that MUST use a web proxy to get out of our network? Many don't deal with proxy.pac correctly or don't read it at all, unless that function is explicitly turned on, by the individual device owner, in an often hidden location in their device settings. I am mainly looking at the $3000 a year price for Prime Infrastructure and going, no way, the Cisco Network Assistant and 5508 Wifi web console that are thrown in for free with the new hardware is fine with me.
Servers :: No Network Adapter In Device Manager?
Apr 11, 2011HP computer, was working last friday and today it isnt. Can not connect to the internet or outlook etc. Looked in BIOS says it is conected to LAN - tried enabling and disabling it and re-booting it. Still nothing. Had a tech guy that said to look in device manager, but network adapter was no where to be seen. What shall i try next to resolve this problem?

Ex: For internal network the ip should be 192.168.0.1 To connect to internet the ip should be 192.168.1.1

* I can not add another physical network card.
* I can not change the IP's of any other system or config servers etc... (as it is used by our internal application, doing so will make a mess.)

So i was hoping to add a virtual network card, and configure it to the new IP. So can that be done ? if so how ?

Sep 22, 2012My host OS is Ubuntu 12.04 and I am running a LAMP stack there. I have several Windows virtual machines (XP and Windows7) running in Virtual Box so I can test IE6, IE7, etc..
I frequently move this laptop between a few wireless networks and sometimes I am without an internet connection. I pause and save the VM execution state. Regardless, I want the virtual machines to be able to access the sites I am hosting locally on Ubuntu. The virtual machines do not need regular internet access. On the host I can point the browser at localhost or any subdirectory that apache is serving and view pages I've set up already. What is the best configuration for this?
Should I use Bridged or NAT virtual adaptors and should the guests use static IP's or DHCP ? I've also considered using ad-hoc networks between guests and host, but I think this will require that the host disconnect from any other networks (with internet access).

I want to get the modem and router out of my computer room and in the basement where the cable enters the house. I want to do this to clean up the computer room wiring a bit and to run line drops to different rooms in the house where the internet will be utilized.Currently there are two PC's, a laptop, a tablet, sometimes a phone, and an XBOX using the internet. I want to get my printer back up and running on the network but thats another story. Only one PC is currently hardwired. I would like to run two cables into the room with the PC and XBOX that are currently using wireless, at least two into the computer room for the PC and network printer, and one or two into the living room for the blue ray player and possibly an internet tv.
