Cisco :: Implementing The Multicast In The Network

Jun 5, 2012

The desktop team has asked me to set up multicast in our network with building PC's as they will be deploying a few hundred of them starting in two weeks. We currently do not have multicast set up, and the only experience I have with it was during my certification studies, so I have a lot to catch up on quick. They will be sending the build traffic from a single server. The network environment is simple: a 3750 stack as the router/distribution layer and mainly 3550's as access. The PC's that they will be imaging will be on one VLAN that is already designated for PXE builds. This VLAN is across multiple switches. Is it possible to just enable the multicast features on a single VLAN? I have been reading around but not finding much other that very in-depth Cisco papers.

Cisco :: NAT / Unicast To Multicast Conversion?

Feb 8, 2013

I am planning to get the unicast streams from different 2-3 sources over internet, and I am doing NAT for port-forwarding all those unicast streams to a one private IP. Attached is the setup for your understanding.Setup: - Both unicast streams will be hitting to One Public IP (3.3.3.2) on UDP/TCP Port 1234, 1236 & 1238 only & the same ports need to be forwarded to natted One Private IP (10.10.10.4)

1)NATTING these 2 unicast streams into one private IP(10.10.10.4) by checking Source & Destination based IPs and ports, but in below configuration I cannot achieve on checking Source & Destination based IPs and ports

Router configuration:-

interface GigabitEthernet0/0
description ***Connected to Internet ***
ip address 3.3.3.2 255.255.255.252
no ip redirects
no ip unreachables

Cisco WAN :: Multicast Routing Between Two Nexus 7Ks?

Dec 9, 2012

I have multicast routing setup between two Nexus 7K's.These Nexus 7K's act as the distribution layer and they connect to 48 different 4507 access layer switches (VPC) and 3 6509 core layer switches. The 4507 swiches have two supervisor modules.  One acting as active and the other as hot standby.  Let's assume that multicast is working on the active module.  If I pull out the active module the hot standby takes it's place. This is where multicast stops working on the switch. How can I get both Nexus 7K's to work with multicast at the same time. Here is an example of show ip mroute from both Nexus 7K's:note that DR02 has a lot more entries in the routing table.  Is this working as designed?

Cisco WAN :: Setting Up IP Multicast Routing

Apr 2, 2011

I have a application whose components are talking to each other via one multicast address 235.19.4.10.
This application is running on two different IP Subnets 192.168.121.0/24 and 192.168.99.0/24. It must be required that these two IP Subnets must not see each other thus they are configured on two different VLANs. Now we have a requirement where this application need to be installed on Remote Sites where Routers will be used to provide the connectivity.

The problem I am facing is that if I will configure the Remote Sites with some other IP Subnets e.g. 192.168.1.0/24 than Networks are unable to talk to each other even Multicast Routing is configured on Routers. Now at least as per my requirement, I need two separate subnets need to be configured on remote sites where one subnet will communicate with Subnet 192.168.121.0/24 and other subnet will communicate with 192.168.99.0/24.

Search For A Multicast Capable Router?

Oct 16, 2012

I run an Allen & Heath digital mixer. The iDr32 mixrack sits on the stage and has a 2 port Ethernet switch on board, which allows the device to be controlled with a PC. If you then add a WiFi router then you can have wireless remote control from a laptop. Allen & Heath also sell an app for iPad to do the same. I have this working quite well although I am receiving no metering data from the Mixrack. Allen & Heath say this is probably because my router does not support multicasting. They list some routers which are recommended, but the list is rather out of date. I am trying to find a suitable dual band router with decent range on both bands. I would prefer a cable type, but since it will not be connected to the internet, it isn't important. When I Google "Multicast capable wifi router" all that comes up is a lot of stuff about video streaming. None of the manufacturers seem to list if their product supports multicasting. I understand that multicasting is usually used for video streaming, but in my case it seems to be a requirement to speed up data between the iPad and the Mixrack. Apparently some users of similar systems have encountered problems with multiple smartphone users in the audience seeking WiFi connections. The solution to this is to use 5GHz band, and switch off the SSID. Some have also found it best to use MAC filtering for security.

Cisco WAN :: Multicast To Unicast Through 2921 Router

Apr 15, 2013

Network 1 : 169.254.XXX.XXX/16 on GigabitEthernet0/0 interface
Network 2 : 192.168.1.XXX/24 on GigabitEthernet0/1 interface

On the network 1 side there is a multicast source (169.254.200.200 destination : 225.0.0.1) on the network 2 side there is 1 receiver which is not multicast capable(old) but i want it to receive the multicast stream for the moment we configure the ip multicast-routing and each interface each interface with ip pim sparse-dense-mode then configure the GigabitEthernet0/1 in order to join the multicast group (using ip igmp static-group 225.0.0.1) and wireshark confirm that the multicast stream on the network 2 side from 169.254.200.200 -> 225.0.0.1 of course the receiver don't the stream, but if i force a "multicast to unicast" process inside the router it shall be ok.. after many hour of internet browsing i found 2 solution :

- NAT, [URL]
- multicast service reflection (Cisco documentation)

The NAT example don't work ,what is the best way to do this task.

The problem is that the Wireless HP printers setup to use Apples IPRINT are not able to be found. However, when I select the Multicast setting for the APs to be UNICAST the Ipads can find the Printers and print to them. What am I doing wrong with this Multicast setting? Do i need to add a Multicast address to the router?

Cisco Routers :: SRP527W-U No Multicast Between Wired And Wi-Fi

Oct 21, 2012

I've just received a new SRP527W-U-E-K9 router to replace an old D-link router. However Apple IOS devices are not discoverable by iTunes on a Windows PC. The PC is connected to SRP527 by wired ethernet. All IOS devices are on the same SSID and the same VLAN as the wired ethernet devices.I have been reading on several other threads in this site about this exact same problem. The fault was that multicast broadcasts were not being forwarded between wired ethernet and WiFi on the same vlan.  url...

The fault in thie above thread was resolved by a firmware update MR3 (v1.1.19) last year however it appears that the SRP527W-U has slightly different firmware to this version. The configuration of my SRP527 is the same as the original poster's config in the above thread. [code] The version information of my SRP is embedded below. As it is brand new, I  assume that it is the most recent firmware, so I would have assumed that the bug which was resolved in the above thread above would be incorporated in this firmware version. [code] Is Cisco aware of this problem and is there any other firmware that I can load onto my model of SRP to resolve this?

Cisco :: 4500s / Enabling Multicast For Apple TV?

Mar 11, 2013

We have a pair of 4500s set up as HRSP pair. We have many VLANs set up. In one of the VLANs is a working Red Hat cluster which uses multicast for its heartbeats. The VLAN interface on each switch has ip pim sparse-dense-mode enabled on it. Multicast routing is not enabled. We now need to be able to send multicasts across a few VLAN to allow apple TV to work with our WLC and lightweight access points.

I assume I can just turn on multicast routing and enable ip pim sparse-dense-mode on the VLANs I need.Is this the case and will it have any effect on my current multicast traffic?

(Customer is running there own RP)

As we are only providing multicast support to a single customer, On our P/PE routers is it still necessary to enable multicast routing globally, MP-BGP Loop Interfaces and tag-switching/mpls interfaces? (I'm guessing it would be as the client has tails terminating on multiple P/PE's?)

i.e.
Loop0 is MP-BGP loop
Router-PE1(config)#ip multicast-routingRouter-PE1(config)#interface Loopback0Router-PE1(config-if)#ip address 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.255Router-PE1(config-if)# [ code].....

Or, is it sufficient to enable it only within the vrf, and all Interfaces in that vrf?

Router-PE1(config)#ip multicast-routing vrf NetworkARouter-PE1(config)#ip vrf NetworkARouter-PE1(config-vrf)#rd 100:1Router-PE1(config-vrf)#route- [ code]...

Cisco Switches :: SG 300-10 Multicast Routing On VLans 10 / 20 And 30

Apr 9, 2013

I am IT teacher at a middle school in Nuremberg, Germany. We have in our school 5 VLANs, 4 Switchtes, 1 L3 switch and 1 router.

2 months ago the old L3 switch (Catalyst 3550-12T) is broken. In the short term I've borrowed a Catalyst 3750G-24, so that the network continues to function. Now a SG 300-10 switch was purchased. This should be configured the same as the 3550-12T or 3750-24G.The network looks like this (there are much more PCS than in this image):

VLAN ID
VLAN Interface
DHCP
DHCP-pool
[Code]....

The DHCP server in VLAN 30 is also a FOG server. The Fog server images all PCs in school. PCs in VLAN 10, 20 and 30 boot from PXE. The MS Server in VLAN 10 has been configured by the DHCP options 66 and 67.

The Catalyst 3750G-24 routes the multicast, but the SG 300-10 I do not have the option of using the commands ip multicast-routing distributedip pim sparse-dense-modeto work and must configure igmp. I'm having problems with the igmp-configuration on the SG 300-10. Therefore, I have uploaded the configuration of the 3750G-24 and the configuration of the SG 300-10 (without ACL).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: NTP Multicast On 3750?

Dec 10, 2012

I have a subnet with a GPS clock on it that connects into a Cisco 3750. The 3750 has another subnet hanging off of it that connects into a firewall then to a server. I need the server to get time from the GPS clock. Any way to pass the NTP through the 3750?  The 3750 has the 3750-IPBase code running on it so the multicast support is limited. I am under regulatory restrictions that only allow traffic to flow from the higher security level (were the time server is) to lower security level (were the server is). This prevents me from having the server go to the clock for updates.
