Cisco WAN :: How To Multicast RS-232 Serial Port Data
Sep 5, 2012
We want to multicast several serial ports over the WAN/LAN network. In few words what we need to do is transport is several serial ports, is like a RS-485 network but in this case via IP.I do some similar to transport 4E&M lines with great results but I don't know how to start to do the same but with the Serial ports.
We have a Lan with several multicast routers. Each router handles different multicast groups sent by remote sources to the hosts on the Lan. All the routers are connected to a Cisco 3560G switch. The routers range from 7204s to 2621XM, and even a 6503 switch. We found that each router is constantly bombarded with multicast data from each other router, even though the router did not join any groups. Obviously, we'd rather not have this happen, because it causes each router's CPU to rise to very uncomfortable levels. If I bring a new router onto the Lan, as soon as I enable multicast, the data starts hitting the router's interface. In an attempt to stop the traffic, I protected each router port, so that (supposedly) the router will not be able to communicate with any other protected port.
We are currently experiencing random multicast data dropouts on ports that are connected to a 3750X in VLAN ports. A test PC was connected to a routed port and we do not have any dropouts of the multicast data.We also took a 2960G and plugged it into VLAN ports on the 3750X. Any test PC that is on the 2960G does not lose traffic. The traffic only drops on PCs that are connected to a port on the 3750X that is in a VLAN. The data drops are random and last approximatly 55-59 seconds before we start receiving multicast traffic again.
I do not see any input/output errors on the interfacessh platform port-asic stat drop also show no drops
CPU runs at about 50% on the 3750X
Below is the configuration of the 3750X Building configuration... Current configuration : 8454!!version 12.2no service padservice timestamps debug datetime msecservice timestamps log datetime msecservice password-
have multicast data across OTV extensions? We run OTV between two pairs of Nexus 7000 in different datacenters with mcast underlying encapsulation. We stretch 10 or so vlans between the sites. We have encountered multiple bugs over the last two years and had to upgrade code and have rarely been clear for any period of time.
We've had an ongoing Tac case where IGMP requests are not getting across the OTV VLAN extension to the PIM forwarder on another site. You can see OTV IGMP snooping on the AED VDC is picking up the request on the local site but it does not get to the remote site that is the PIM forwarder so no multicast gets onto the VLAN. For a while we had a hack where we would get a local server to the PIM forwarder router to request the same groups and then this would somehow get across to the other site. Since clearing the overlay interfaces to try and fix the original problem the hack no longer works and I can't get multicast to the receiver at all.
Multicast is not working between our two datacenter, we have catalyst 2960S (two stacked) as the internal lan switch, and catalyst 3560E as the external switch, same configuration for both datacenters. The two sites are connected using metro, the external switch (3560) is doing qinq and encapsulate the data from the internal switch with the metro vlan (611).
IGMP snooping is disabled for all switches, although we prefer to enable it for the internal switches. For each datacenter there is a different firewall which also act as the router, we are using fortigate as the firewall.Following is the important configuration section:
Port 43 in the internal switch is connected to the external switch (both sites):
I just installed a HWIC-2T in a Cis co 3845 running IOS 15.1(3) T New build. The IOS self installed the port configuration including the command line "clock rate 2000000." I can edit everything but that entry using the CLI. When I enter the "no clock rate" it will not take in the running conf.
serial modem US robatics 5686G is not detected on windows server on serial port com1. i tried to restart the server . turn the modem on and off disable the com1 port reenable it again . update the firmware of modem on different workstation and connect it back to server ( couse it's working on another workstation so it's not the modem) i really don't know what to do is there a trick for this like in registry or somthing in mouse settings that mouse could actully detected on com1 and don't let the modem to show up on device manager? by the way modem cable is serial cable i tried to change the cable as well non of my ways works?
HP just released the 8560p elitebook- not a bad shake and it actually has an integrated Serial port.Any other notebooks that have integrated serial ports?- I know the T6x Thinkpads used to use a slimbay adapter thing. I just hate the Usb adapter, and bossman said I could get a new computer here pretty soon...
I need to connect to the console port on a cisco firewall, an rj-45 connector. The cable is a rj-45 at one end and a serial on the other. My PC has no serial port and I am unable to use the provided cable to connect to the firewall appliance. Is there software that can allow serial over my PC's Ethernet? I really don't have time to order a serial card for my PC.
Just want to ask if 4-port serial HWIC-4T is compatible for the Cisco 2801?We need additional HWIC for Fast Ethernet but the problem is we don't have already slot for it.We already have two HWIC-2T 2-port serial which is inserted at slot 1 and slot 3. We're planning to buy 4-port HWIC-4T so we can use the slot 3 for HWIC Fast Ethernet.if it's possible to have the 4-port serial HWIC-4T be inserted to Cisco 2801.
I have a 1905 series cisco router, when I run "sh int" command it gives me following details -
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit/sec, DLY 20000 usec, reliability 254/255, txload 7/255, rxload 151/255 Encapsulation PPP, LCP Open Stopped: CDPCP Open: IPCP, loopback not set
[code]....
let me know the significance of txload and rxload. This router is used for MPLS connectivity.Link is working OK..but I'm not able to understand exactly what is the above txload and rxload signify. There is also one peculiar phenomena occuring, when my reliability goes down then rxload also goes down or might be vise versa.
I have two 2950 Switches and am trying to connect via my laptop. My laptop doesn't have a serial port so I am trying to connect through the ethernet port, with a straight through cable and on the end as it goes into the console port I have bought a cisco console rollover adapter. When I turn on terra term I get nothing...just a black screen and it disconnects.
On the WAN port, there are 4 pins that are traced to the internal serial traces. Where can we get the cable that will fit into the WAN RJ-45 port and have a serial connector on the back end. It may be called a Cisco Debug Adapter, but we haven't been able to find?
I have a host machine (Laptop, Win 7 Home Premium x64) running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on VMWare Workstation 9. I've got this system set up for UMDF driver development, because I need a target machine to debug drivers on. However, because I'm developing drivers for Win 7 (x86 and x64), I cannot connect to the virtual machine on via a simple network connection. Connection methods are outlined here.
I have tried a few different pieces of software (mostly Eltima software), and have Google'd every combination of phrases that I can think of. I can't find any information on this anywhere. I don't just need to share data between the machines, I need a more "physical" connection.
Does any know how to do this, or if there's another (preferably more simple) way of doing it?
is it possible to block outgonig multicast L2 frames on an Ethernet port in outgoing direction on a 2960 Switch?
I tried the "switchport block multicast" command, but the description of this feature relates to only "unknown" multicast!?
But what means "unknown multicast"? Even if activated, I see a lot of multicast traffic going out that port: IGMP, PIM, SSDP, HSRP, OSPF, .. and also pings and VLC streams to multicastaddresses (ip igmp snooping disabled).
I also tried to map a "mac access-list" to that port, but the "mac access-group" interface command is restricted to only incoming traffic.
Reason: we assume, that there are a couple of specific enddevices, that might react strange to some multicast. Therefor we would like to block outgoing multicast on that specific ports.
If I monitor a trunkport on the rootbridge in both directions I get Duplicate Multicast Packets on the perticular VLAN. The first guess is, that this is worked as designed and not a IOS Bug (Platform CAT6500 SUP720 IOS 12.2(33)SXI9 ) Until know I only found an old Cisco press link from 2002 with this subject.
I try to pass multicast traffic between two vrf on the same 3750 switch. I have IP services IOS and sdm template routing.
here is my config:
ip routing ! ip vrf vpn2 rd 1:1 mdt default 232.1.1.1 route-target export 1:1 route-target import 1:1
[code]....
Now I'm stuck - I don't know what to do to pass multicast traffic. Do I have any chance to run this config on 3750 chassis?Perhaps "Configuring Multicast VPN Extranet Support" document will be useful, but it concerns Catalyst 6500? [URL]
I have a 3560 switch 48 ports ios version 12.2( 35)SE5
I want to run two data vlans on the same port. Currently the port is in access mode and set to vlan30 I want to add vlan 40
I wanted to use multi mode, on this switch not an option but private-vlan is, ? what version of ios do I need to run the multi mode or can I do the same thing with private-vlan.
I'm setting up a montitor session on a NEXUS 7K as below.we are receiving in 150M of data and 0 data going out port 9/25.but port 4/24 shows 300M to the span port?
We have a quad port NIC on our Dell server.I want to take all 4 ports and plug it into our switch and have it all go to the same IP of the server and just have to share the data load in/out.Do I need to configure anything to do this?
Is it possible to pin out a DB37 (RS422) for DB25 (RS232) data port on a Satellite Modem? The question more so is can 232 data be passed through a 422/449 TX/RX Data port to a PC via a satellite modem?
Recently I faced 1 issue in MLS 6509.MLS had all Gig modules in slots 6,7,8 taking System detected CRC error rate on port ASIC data bus exceed fatal threshold, ("System detected CRC error rate on port ASIC data bus exceed fatal threshold".) causing the module reset by the SUP. After this active SUP causing it to failover the standby. This process was continuing every few minutes resulting in the SUPs on MLS rolling.what could be the issue for Sup rolling reset?
We are trying to config vlan 10 for data and vlan 20 for voice on the same port - port 1 of swtich SF300-24P to run both data and voice on different vlans.Do I have to add vlan 10 as an untagged vlan to port 1 and add vlan 20 as an tagged vlan to port 1?If I do not want to assign the native vlan 1 to port 1, how can I remove it ? The GUI page - assign VLAN to port does not allow to remove it.Aslo, what mode shall I set up on port 1? General, trunk or access ?
can i use a cat 5 cable to extend a 9 pin serial cable to connect my PC to my home audio controller? I have a serial to USB converter but my PC is upstairs and my audio component is downstairs?
I have configured four E1 links between two locations on my 3745 using WIC-2T cards. At both ends all the serial links are configured as ip unnunmbered fastethernet 0/0 encapsulation ppp OSPF is enabled without CEF I would like to know how load balancing will occur in this scenario? Will all my links be utilised at the same time? Will multiple links be used only when the need (in terms of bandwidth) arises?
I understand that IPv6 uses the MAC address of a LAN interface to make up the EUI-64 of a serial interface since serial interfaces don't have MACs. What happens when there is no LAN interface available? What if the switch has only serial interface cards?
Were bringing up a new site shortly and I'm trying to configure Serial0/0/0 which will be connected to an MPLS over 1.5m T1 line. I am basically doing a simular configuration as other sites where one of the ethernet interfaces is handed off from a fiber optic wan, but a T1 MPLS is connected to a WIC card and this provides a redundant path (though slower) in case of a fiber cut or equipment failure. This should be pretty straightforward but it appears as if I have no serial interface on this router. Card is in and everything, it is a VMIC-3-1MFT-T1/E1 in EHWIC 0.
i have LMS 3.2 installed in my campus. i need the serial number of the LMS suite to open a service request with cisco. but unable to find the same. How to find the same.
