Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multicast Data Drop On 3750X?

Apr 23, 2012

We are currently experiencing random multicast data dropouts on ports that are connected to a 3750X in VLAN ports. A test PC was connected to a routed port and we do not have any dropouts of the multicast data.We also took a 2960G and plugged it into VLAN ports on the 3750X.  Any test PC that is on the 2960G does not lose traffic. The traffic only drops on PCs that are connected to a port on the 3750X that is in a VLAN.  The data drops are random and last approximatly 55-59 seconds before we start receiving multicast traffic again.

I do not see any input/output errors on the interfacessh platform port-asic stat drop also show no drops

CPU runs at about 50% on the 3750X

Below is the configuration of the 3750X

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multicast In A 3750x Stack

Jan 31, 2012

I recently created a stack using (2) 3750x switches. I have three vlans on the stack (1,105,241) Vlan 105 is configured on 6509 core switches with multicasting and are connected to the stack via gigabit fiber. It is working well with clients on the Master or SW1, however clients on SW2 do not participate in multicasting Any client pc that is connected to SW2 vlan 105 does not show up in the "sh ip igmp snooping group" command. I can statically assign a client on SW2 to the mcast groups but but they fail to register on their own. I can take the cable connection from SW2 and plug it into an SW1 Vlan 105 port and it immediately becomes a member of the groups. I can then connect it back to the SW2 port and it disappears from the group membership. IGMP and PIM are configured with the defaults.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7000 / How To Have Multicast Data Across OTV Extensions

Nov 5, 2012

have multicast data across OTV extensions?  We run OTV between two pairs of Nexus 7000 in different datacenters with mcast underlying encapsulation. We stretch 10 or so vlans between the sites. We have encountered multiple bugs over the last two years and had to upgrade code and have rarely been clear for any period of time.

We've had an ongoing Tac case where IGMP requests are not getting across the OTV VLAN extension to the PIM forwarder on another site. You can see OTV IGMP snooping on the AED VDC is picking up the request on the local site but it does not get to the remote site that is the PIM forwarder so no multicast gets onto the VLAN. For a while we had a hack where we would get a local server to the PIM forwarder router to request the same groups and then this would somehow get across to the other site. Since clearing the overlay interfaces to try and fix the original problem the hack no longer works and I can't get multicast to the receiver at all.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 2960S / Multicast Not Working Between Two Data-centers?

Jan 28, 2012

Multicast is not working between our two datacenter, we have catalyst 2960S (two stacked) as the internal lan switch, and catalyst 3560E as the external switch, same configuration for both datacenters.The two sites are connected using metro, the external switch (3560) is doing qinq and encapsulate the data from the internal switch with the metro vlan (611).

IGMP snooping is disabled for all switches, although we prefer to enable it for the internal switches.For each datacenter there is a different firewall which also act as the router, we are using fortigate as the firewall.Following is the important configuration section:

Port 43 in the internal switch is connected to the external switch (both sites):

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/43
switchport mode trunk
 load-interval 30

Port 3 in the external switch connected to the internal switch (both sites):

interface GigabitEthernet0/3
switchport access vlan 611
 switchport mode dot1q-tunnel
no cdp enable
 no cdp tlv server-location
 no cdp tlv app

 Port 8 on the external switch connected to the metro link (both sites) vlan 350 is the internet and 611 is the metro:

interface GigabitEthernet0/8
 switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
 switchport trunk allowed vlan 350,611
 switchport mode trunk

vlan 611 on external switch:

interface Vlan611
ip address 192.168.168.2 255.255.255.0
 no ip route-cache
no ip mroute-cache

Cisco :: 4400 WLC Random Drop In Both Multicast And Broadcast On 7.0.220

May 15, 2013

We have a Cisco 4400 WLC running version 7.0.220.0 and are experiencing clients randomly dropping both broadcast and multicast at the same time.  This is not specific to one area of the site and the duration of the MC/Brodacast loss varies. These comms outages don’t happen on all the clients at once but usually affect one client at a time.  After a few minutes or a few hours, the client will start receiving the multicast without user intervention.

The site has Cisco 1522 AP's that have rather interesting logs where the DTLS sends fatal errors, followed by CAPWAP going into discovery state.  Not sure if this has the same affect or if that's a completely seperate issue.I was told it could be the GTK but I don't believe 7.0.220 has this feature even enabled. The clients are Cisco 3230 and Cisco 1310's.  The clients are running version 12.4(25d)JA1 while the 3230 router is running version 12.4(24)T7. What supporting logs or configs need to be shared to better troubleshoot.  This has been going on for quite some time and is frustrating the end user as multicast is essential to the operation.

Cisco WAN :: Multicast On 4510 Core Switch And 3750x IDF Switches

At our site we have a 4510 core switch and 3750x switches in our IDFs. The 3750 switches are connected to the core via DOT1Q trunks in a server client setup. We are putting in an Informacast/Berbee server witch will send pages and text to the cisco phones. We also have 1 3750 switch connecting to the core via a layer 3 port channel. If we put the Informacast server on the phones vlan would I just need to enable ip pim sparse-dense mode on that vlan only and enable multicast routing, ip multicast routing?

Cisco WAN :: 3560G Multicast Routers Bombarded With Data

Apr 19, 2011

We have a Lan with several multicast routers. Each router handles different multicast groups sent by remote sources to the hosts on the Lan. All the routers are connected to a Cisco 3560G switch. The routers range from 7204s to 2621XM, and even a 6503 switch. We found that each router is constantly bombarded with multicast data from each other router, even though the router did not join any groups. Obviously, we'd rather not have this happen, because it causes each router's CPU to rise to very uncomfortable levels. If I bring a new router onto the Lan, as soon as I enable multicast, the data starts hitting the router's interface. In an attempt to stop the traffic, I protected each router port, so that (supposedly) the router will not be able to communicate with any other protected port.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Trigger Packet Drop On WS-C4948

Feb 25, 2013

I am running  (cat4500-ENTSERVICES-M), Version 12.2(53)SG2 on the switch. I have a scenario where I have 3 end user equipments connected to a Cisco 4948 L3 switch. At the switch end port 1/46, 1/47, 1/48 are the terminating points for these 3 devices . I have added these three ports to VLAN140 (switch port access vlan140 on the gig interfaces).

The device connected to 1/46 is the one I'm testing some signalling features on. My requirement is to have intermittent packet drop on this interface so that my signalling associations would go down now and then. I'm trying to simulate a real-time network congestion/latency/packet drop in a simple manner.

I do not want to shut/no shut the 1/46 intf to cause this. Some way to achieve intermittent packet drop on this gig1/46 intf ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2821 Multicast Routing Relay Basic

Mar 12, 2013

I  start configuring Cisco 2821 router for multicast . First short  description and attached sheme explanation. Let we say  I have small  network with 100 users. One router and Cisco switch 3560. Two VLAN’s,  one for data another for multicast. Data from internet works fine but  now I want to connect multicast servers (or source of more multicast  streams) from another subnet. Router have three interfaces.I expect there should be no problems with multicast configuration, but unfortunately it is not like I expect. What I did ?

First step:  enable multicast routing

Second step: on both interfaces (Fe 0/1 and Fe 0/2)  - ip pim sparse-mode

Third step: configure switch that users are connected to access port in VLAN 222 (temporary to see if multicast work)

When  I start VLC on computer nothing happend. If I try to connect computer  on same subnet where is source of multicast streams it works fine.What  I am doing wrong ? Is there anything about routing ? All subnets are  directly connected. RP is not needed if I have one router or ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 - Multicast Routing Preference

Nov 14, 2012

I have a problem on my catalyst 6509 on which I would like to do the following things :

I have some Vlans in which multicast is enabled.
In tose Vlan theres is a router which is default router for equipements.

I had enabled multicast routing because some Vlan needs to exchange multicast informations, but I wolud like to make difference between Multicast traffic. For example I have 5 vlans:

Vlan 1 and 2 need to exchange Multicast informations but the don't need multicast information from Vlan 3 and 4
Vlan 3 and 5 need to exchange Multicast informations but the don't need multicast information from Vlan 1 and 2
Vlan 5 is independant Vlan but doesn't need to have multicast information from all others vlan.

Last problem, equipement on differents vlan can use the same Mulkticast group address. In this case, Multicast routing is not working between Vlan 1 to Vlan 2 and Vlan 3 to Vlan 4.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4506 / 6506 - Multicast Routing

Mar 8, 2013

I am configuring multicast in a environment where I have a 4506 at each site (4 total) and a 6506 as the core. Each 4506 is connected via layer 3 to the 6506. I have a mix of 3560s, 3548s, and 2960s connected to the 4506s and the 6506 via layer 2 trunk

I have multiple multicast sources and hosts communicating at a time (multiple cameras sending video / multiple computers receiving video).  So this is not a scenario where there is 1 sender and many receivers.  This would be many senders (~50) and some receivers (~10)

Sample Diagram:

->3560
|
6506 --> 4506 --> 3548
|   |
|    --> 2960
|
4506 --> 2960
|
-->3548

I configured ip multicast-routing on each of the 4506s and on the 6506. IGMP snooping is on by default on the 3560 and 2960 switches. CGMP is on by default on the 3548 switches.

I set up PIM sparse-dense mode and IGMP version 3 on each of the layer 3 interfaces for the 4506s and 6506 where they connect and on each VLAN that is sending or receiving multicast. Multicast is working throughout the network, however I am looking to verify the configuration as I scale this out to more clients on the network.

#1 - Is it correct to us sparse-dense mode in this configuration?

#2 - Do I need to configure a rendezvous points using AUTO-RP? (ip pim send-rp-announce INTERFACE scope TTL). Not sure here if I need to designate this and what to choose.  Right now I do not have this and it is working, but documentation seems to infer that I need to designate this.

#3 - Is there any other configuration settings I should be considering?  I hard to find real world configurations of multicast as examples or people that know multicast routing well.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4506E Interface To Reset And Drop Connections

Dec 29, 2011

I started having connectivity issues between my core 4506E (Sup7E) and Cisco 2960S. There were input and CRC errors on Te int (SFP 10Gb - LRM) on 2960S, which cause the interface to reset and drop connections. While troubleshooting this issue, I have replaced patch cords and also had the tech checking the fiber. He said that there was some residue on one of the connectors, so the light levels fluctuated in 1300nm, but worked fine in 850. Well LRMs are using 1300, so he re-polished the tips, which worked to stabilize the light levels. After all that, I was still receiving the input/CRC errors, but the connection was NOT dropping. As my last resort I swapped the SFPs between the core and 2960, thinking I should start having issues on the core end. Well, here's what happened: I stopped receiving input/CRC errors on 2960 (also no errors on the core), but 2960s started generating Rx power high alarms: [code]

Cisco Switching/Routing :: NTP Multicast On 3750?

I need the server to get time from the GPS clock. Any way to pass the NTP through the 3750?  The 3750 has the 3750-IPBase code running on it so the multicast support is limited. I am under regulatory restrictions that only allow traffic to flow from the higher security level (were the time server is) to lower security level (were the server is). This prevents me from having the server go to the clock for updates.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Randomly Devices Will Drop Offline And Then Come Back

Aug 28, 2012

I have a network that has a pair of 6500 switches on either end, running HSRP. In between each 6500 are two to three ruggedcom switches. They are connected to each other and the 6500's by trunk ports in a straight line. The 6500's see each other as CDP neighbors, and the 6500's can see the rugged- com as LLDP neighbors (ruggedcom only supports LLDP).

The issue is that randomly devices on the ruggedcoms will drop offline and then come back. The problem is that the devices that drop offline are all in the same VLAN, so it appears like a virus -  i.e. one device drops off, then multiple. Eventually the HSRP starts flapping between the two 6500s and this causes havoc on the network.I'm almost to the point of taking a laptop and plugging it into one of the ruggedcom's to see traffic, but the issue is that the ruggedcoms are outside in cabinets that laptops shouldnt be exposed to.
