I understand that IPv6 uses the MAC address of a LAN interface to make up the EUI-64 of a serial interface since serial interfaces don't have MACs. What happens when there is no LAN interface available? What if the switch has only serial interface cards?

If that's the case for serial interfaces, how do other kinds of interfaces, such as Ethernet interfaces, put bits on the wire? Do they somehow put more than one bit on the wire at a time? I assume it's a faster process, but how so?

We have assigned EUI-64 prefix addresses to sub-interfaces to allow clients to auto-configure there IPv6 IPs and it works correctly. I used ASDM to do the original configuration and noticed that there were two different ways to do it, both of which seem to work. I can add a prefix under the Interface IPv6 Addresses dialog box and check EUI64 or I can add it under the Interface IPv6 Prefixes. But using the two methods yields two different interface configurations:

At both ends all the serial links are configured as ip unnunmbered fastethernet 0/0 encapsulation ppp OSPF is enabled without CEF I would like to know how load balancing will occur in this scenario?Will all my links be utilised at the same time? Will multiple links be used only when the need (in terms of bandwidth) arises?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWere bringing up a new site shortly and I'm trying to configure Serial0/0/0 which will be connected to an MPLS over 1.5m T1 line. I am basically doing a simular configuration as other sites where one of the ethernet interfaces is handed off from a fiber optic wan, but a T1 MPLS is connected to a WIC card and this provides a redundant path (though slower) in case of a fiber cut or equipment failure. This should be pretty straightforward but it appears as if I have no serial interface on this router. Card is in and everything, it is a VMIC-3-1MFT-T1/E1 in EHWIC 0.

I can dial the speed up/down via clock rate all good but I need to also simulate latency. This is for simulating a WAN bonding scenario so I was going to aggregate a 10M ethernet port with a 2M serial and a 512k serial. But I need to also ensure varying latency.
Any good way of depicting serial links in Visio? Manually drawing is pretty clunky and quick searches in google isn't turning up much.

I am in the process of implementing 750 Cisco Access Points acros the business. I need to make a note of the serial numbers and Mac addresses for our inventory before I get these configured and sent out to their relavent destinations. The AP's have have arrived in boxes of 10 (75 boxes). The sticker on the box with the barcode is either covered with a postage sticker, ripped, or my scanner will not scan it becaise it is too small. There is a sticker with the serial bundle which is larger and therefore scanable. Is there a way that I can scan this and get the MAC address and serial number.
I know that this is not a technical question but I don't want too spend the next 3 weeks opening 75 boxes and removing each AP individually and recording it.
We have a wan serial connection connected to cisco router 1750, and we want to upgrade the serial connection to ethernet but we haven't any additional ethernet interface on the router. Is there any converter from ethernet to serial?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a remote site that still utilizes a single T1 connection to me. For multiple reasons we had to scrap the old T1 and have a new one put in. The old T1 resided on a T3 as channel 25. The new T1 is a standlone point to point. I removed the old config from my 7301 and programmed my 3725. I cannot figure out what is going on but the interface stays down/down. There is no loopback turned on, either manually or by the carrier. The AL LED stays amber regardless of whether or not I have a cable patched down. The CD LED remains green when I patch a cable down. LP is not light.I am using a straight through Ethernet cable to connect my 3725 to the smart jack. If you look at the show output below you will see DCD and CTS is down. Since the remote end was working and I just had the tech move the patch cable from one smart jack to another I am assuming the problem is on my side or with the carrierI already tried changing the clock sourced between internal and line. I also swapped out the WIC card for another one. I don't usually program T1 connections. [code]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought this switch off Ebay and I can't seem to find anything online on the physical connection of this switch. It's not like normal switches where it just uses a ethernet type cable that goes to serial, it requires a female to female cable which does not exist anywhere so I ended up buying a gender changer for a normal cable I had but can't seem to get the prompt to come up. I'm using 9600, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bits and no flow control. Do some wires have to be crossed a special way or something or do I need to type anything special in the console to get the prompt? I can't find much online on this switch. At least not as far as serial connectivity goes.
