Dec 11, 2011I've seen a lot of things I want to and need to fix to get our network more secure but my first order of business is Visio diagrams of the old network and projected diagrams of the new network when we move to our new DC next Saturday. I've made maybe 1 diagram on my own thus far and have edited a few. I want to create physical and logical diagrams but I'm not quite sure what to include and what not to include on either since I haven't seen a wealth of diagrams up to this point in my career.
1st question: Does anyone know where I can get visio stencils of IPS modules for ASA 55xx series? Didn't see them on Cisco's stencil site or with a google search
2nd question: Our network is setup like this... A stack of 3 3750s act as our "Core" and have a 2 port etherchannel to every layer 2 2960 switch (15) in the network. In a physical diagram, 30 links would make it a little busy, hell even 15 links represented as the etherchannels would be busy

Oct 24, 2011I have a faulty ASA5520 and I am not sure if I have a SMART net contract for it or not (I manage over 200+ ASAs). The problem is that the Serial Number sticker that is normally on the back of the ASA is missing. The ASA5520 is also faulty and doesn't power on so I cannot boot it up and run 'show ver' or similar. If I open the chassis there appears to be other Serial numbers on the Power Supply, and Motherboard etc but they do not seem to be the correct Chassis serial number i.e not in the right format, and if I put them into the Trade tool I get no results.
There must be another record of the serial numbers besides 1x sticker to the rear of the chassis that can fall off? How I can get the chassis serial when the device isn't booting. or (Cisco) is there a way to find the chassis serial number from the power or motherboard serial?

Jan 4, 2012My Sony Vaio was stolen and I dont have any tracking software on it. I was told it can be traced using the serial number this is not going to work as the serial number is not digital is this correct? If so is there any inbuilt device or software ect: that comes installed when you purchase the laptop? I am desperate to find my laptop as it has personal information stored on it of my partner who recently passed away and non of this is replaceable. I would prefer to find it without using the authorities as i know who this person is i just dont know where this person has stored the laptop. It would be best for the authorities not to be involved for my safety.

Oct 25, 2012I am trying to find the serial number on the CLI that matches the serial number sticker on the back of a WS-C2948G-GE-TX switch that runs CatOS. I am running code cat4000-k9.8-3-2-GLX.bin. I have 4 different switches and all the stickers have a serial that starts with JPE.. and both "show version" and "show sprom 1" and "show sprom 2" gives me a completely different serial number that starts wtih JAE... All of these serial numbers I get from the CLI match with each other. The command "show sprom chassis" says "Feature not supported."
Is it possible to find the serial number that matches the sticker from the CLI on a 2948G? Why does Cisco make this so confusing?

Aug 27, 2008Is there a way to trigger stateful (or stateless) failover on ASA 55xx (8.0.3) when there's a failure on the IPS unit? I understand the fail open/fail close and its application on a single firewall, but the better solution for an IPS failure in a redundant pair would seem to be a stateful failover to the other ASA, and I don't see that as a documented feature.

Sep 23, 2012I am in process of replacing our 44xx controllers with new 55xx controllers. During the upgrade, I would like to add redundancy to our guest controllers that reside in the DMZ and had a question about regarding the setup.
If I remember correctly, I would place both guest controllers on the same mobilty group, and then add both of the controllers to the foreign controllers. The foreign controllers will form mobility with both anchors, but choose the one with the lowest MAC address as primary. On the foreign controller, if the lowest MAC addressed anchor controller does not respond, it will connect to the second controller. Is that still true? or is there a better way to go about it?
Also, I was wondering, do I need to put different guest network ranges on each of the Anchor controller? or can I use the same exact range on both anchor controller (since if a controller goes down, the clients would be reconnecting to the second controller anyways?)
Any best way to setup redundant Anchor (guest) controllers).

Mar 26, 2011I have some tunnels which terminate to my home router. I'm allowing the other ends of the tunnels to use my voice setup. I need to prepend *67 to all called numbers which don't originate from my house. I don't want people calling my home number based on the caller-id number they see when someone across one of the tunnels calls.
So if 5008 calls 212-333-4444 I want it sent to my provider as *672123334444. If 5001 calls a number, I don't want it touched. Can I do this? I can use IOS or CUCM here.

We are going to be moving to a 20MB line, and i just wanted to make sure I have the right connections before installing. We also have a T1 line in another loaton and would be moving to this same 2811 router there as well.We would also like to copy over the configuration from 1700 series router to the 2811 router. Would it be easier to do it by hyper-terminal? Also if we keep the 1700 routers are they capable of using layer-3?
