Cisco WAN :: 3725 Replace 2Mb Serial Connection With Further 100Mb Connection

Feb 3, 2011

I have a Cisco 3725 running IOS 12.3. I have three WAN connections (2 x 100Mb and 1 x 2Mb serial) and I need to replace the 2Mb serial connection with a further 100Mb connection. However, I have not got any spare 100Mb sockets. My plan is to use a switch that supports VLANs, connect the three WAN connections to the switch, each in their own VLAN, then connect the switch to one port on the router, configuring the switch port as a trunk (so that it passes all three VLANs across the link) and configuring the router so that for that single Ethernet interface, it has three subinterfaces each configured for a VLAN that matches the VLAN used for the corresponding WAN connection.

I am a bit rusty on my IOS so I wanted to run this all past the community for feedback. [code] Any thoughts on whether or not that will work? Are there any commands from the original interface configurations that I CANNOT use when moving them to a subinterface? I'm thinking that the speed & duplex commands need to be removed?

Cisco WAN :: 2620 / 2950 - Serial To USB Adapter For Routers?

Jun 26, 2012

I have some 2620 routers and 2950 switches that have Console Ports that are serial.  However my HP PC w.Win 7 dosent have any serial ports. I am looking for a USB to Serial converter that will allow me to access the console ports so I can configure these devices. I've read many old posts and still havent found a solution.  Is it true that none of these cables work? Anything that will work on XP? (also have XP PC's).How about a RJ45 to Serial?? How about a PCI Serial card? I cant believe Cisco hasnt developed a conversion cable to use with their Console Cables?

Serial Connection For Interconnect 5324?

Nov 16, 2012

I just bought this switch off Ebay and I can't seem to find anything online on the physical connection of this switch. It's not like normal switches where it just uses a ethernet type cable that goes to serial, it requires a female to female cable which does not exist anywhere so I ended up buying a gender changer for a normal cable I had but can't seem to get the prompt to come up. I'm using 9600, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bits and no flow control. Do some wires have to be crossed a special way or something or do I need to type anything special in the console to get the prompt? I can't find much online on this switch. At least not as far as serial connectivity goes.

Cisco WAN :: Setting Up 2811 Serial Leased Line Connection

Feb 7, 2012

I am a total new comer for Cisco Router. All I know is plug the console cable to a serial port on a PC, fire-up HyperTerminal to view and that's it. I don't know any command or scripts.

I am trying to setup my client connection, I already receive the required configuration settings from ISP. It is a Leased Line Serial connection.

How to setup the router with the below configuration.

Serial IP : 1.X.XX.222
Serial Netmask : 255.255.255.XXX
 LAN IP : 1.X.XXX.1 to 1.X.XXX.31

Cisco WAN :: 1905 / Clarification On Txload And Rxload On Serial Port For Routers

Sep 21, 2012

I have a 1905 series cisco router, when I run "sh int" command it gives me following details -

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit/sec, DLY 20000 usec,
     reliability 254/255, txload 7/255, rxload 151/255
  Encapsulation PPP, LCP Open
  Stopped: CDPCP
  Open: IPCP, loopback not set

[code]....

let me know the significance of txload and rxload. This router is used for MPLS connectivity.Link is working OK..but I'm not able to understand exactly what is the above txload and rxload signify. There is also one peculiar phenomena occuring, when my reliability goes down then rxload also goes down or might be vise versa.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1841 - Connecting Routers Via Serial Interface

Oct 22, 2012

While I managed to connect to each router individually, I decided it was time to connect the routers together via serial; as I don't have any serial cables and need to buy some, what serial cables I need, as well as to ask whether I have the right cards in my router(s) that will allow me to do so.

I bought 3 1841 routers, and all have a 1 port serial WAN Interface Card (WIC 1-T); one router has 2 of these, and one router has a WIC-1B-S/T .. My question is, can I connect the routers with a serial cable via WIC 1-T, or do I need a 2-T

Cisco Routers :: RV220W Can't Create 255.255.254.0 Subnet

Nov 8, 2012

I'm trying to setup this router with my IP range 192.168.100.1 to 192.168.101.254 but if I try to enter a subnet mask other than 255.255.255.0 I get the error - Invalid subnet mask. It should be 255 for given class of IP address at 255.255.xxx.0.

Every other device on my network allows that subnet mask, why not this router, it's stopping access from my 192.168.101.x devices.

Cisco Routers :: Create VPN Between RV042 And ASA5505?

Feb 20, 2012

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 and a Cisco/Linksys RV042. I would like to crerate a site to site VPN between them, and from what I've read it is possible. So I set up the connection on both routers but When I click on connect on the RV042 nothing happens. I've made sure that the encryption settings are the same on both routers but I can't get them to connect to each other. I think the problem may be with the RV042 as the ASA has other site to site VPN connections without any proble (although they are on other ASAs). I saw this thread [URL] but I'm not sure how to disable phase 2 on the RV042 or enable it on the ASA.

what setting I need to change on either router to make the site to site work?

Create A VPN Connection To Use Abroad?

Aug 25, 2011

Basically, I'm trying to create a VPN connection that I can use abroad so that I can use my own UK IP address in another country to access content such as BBC iPlayer and Skype which are restricted in the country that I am going to. I could buy a VPN but that would seem rather silly seeing as I could create my own, hopefully. However, I have tried to create a VPN but I have failed miserably! I tried setting up a VPN using the basic method, i.e. Create a new VPN, enter IP address, enter password etc, basically, I follwed these steps

How To Connect 2 Routers LAN - WAN And Create Subnet

Sep 8, 2012

I'm trying to connect two routers and create a subnet but failing due to a little knowledge but no real understanding! I've read the ultimate setup thread loads of times but can't get my setup to work.

Here's the setup I'm trying to build:

Internet -> Master ADSL modem/router (No NAT, no DHCP) -> Slave cable router (NAT, DHCP)

I want to connect 3 Xboxes to the master router with external IPs to avoid the whole "moderate/strict" NAT nightmare. Then I'll connect everything else (PCs, Macs, wireless devices etc) to the Slave router which will assign IP addresses and do the NAT thing. Both routers are Netgear N150s (master is ADSL, slave is Cable).

Here's what I've tried so far:

Master router:

All IP addresses supplied by ISP
Internet IP: xxx.68.160.143
DNS: xxx.xxx.3.xxx and xxx.xxx.6.xxx
Router IP: xxx.68.160.142

Cisco Routers :: SRP541W Unable To Create IPSEC Policy To ANY (0.0.0.0)

Unfortunately, it does not appear as if the SRP500 series will allow you to create an ipsec policy where the local or remote traffic selection is 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0. It wants a specific network. I have a scenario where I want to send all traffic over the vpn tunnel.

Is there a workaround to this or a special way to input "ANY" as the remote network?

Cisco Routers :: SRP547W Cannot Create Advanced Firewall Rules

LAN 10.10.10.1/24 VLAN10
LAN 10.10.2.1/24 VLAN100
PPPOE ADSL
Software DMZ going to 10.10.10.x and another to 10.10.2.x - this is working OK

I now want to use the Advanced Firewall features to block all ports except those that I need as the software DMZ forwards everything. When I try to create the rules I get "the values are invalid" message no matter what I try.

I want to create explicit allow rules, followed by a deny all rule for each of the IP addresses used for the software DMZ

Have I got the Subnet Mask Correct for the Destination IP? Or should it be 255.255.255.0? It doesnt make a difference either way
