Basically, I'm trying to create a VPN connection that I can use overseas so that I can use my own UK IP address in another country to access content such as BBC iPlayer and Skype which are restricted in the country that I am going to. I could buy a VPN but that would seem rather silly seeing as I could create my own, hopefully. However, I have tried to create a VPN but I have failed miserably! I tried setting up a VPN using the basic method, i.e. Create a new VPN, enter IP address, enter password etc, basically, I follwed these steps

Dell Studio PCWindows 7 Home Premium SP1Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Network Card)I have a mix of computers and operating systems (1 x Windows 7 and 2 x Windows XP). I can share files on the Windows XP computers from the WIndows 7 computer but I can only share files in the Public folder from my Windows XP computers. When I look at the network map it states that I do not have a network connection - but clearly I do as I can share some files. This may be due to my network profile being Public (current profile) and not Home or Work as I believe network maps cannot be shown if the network profile is Public. If you agree this may be the problem, how can I change to a Home profile. I cannnot find any setting for changing the profile from Public to Home. When I try to set Network Discovery to "On" in the Home and Work section of the Network and Sharing Center it does not 'stick' and reverts back to the "Turn off network discovery" setting (see attachment).
how do i connect client computers to a server using a 3g gsm sim dongle for each computer and the server aswell...sounds weird but the client computers are way too far away from the server computer.
I have a very generous neighgbour and unfortunately his wifi only reaches my computer, and not my phone. I have done the following with a Vista machine:
Connect to wireless network > connect router to computer via ethernet cable > Viola, hotspot!
However, in Win7 is this possible? It sees the router as "unidentified public network" and I can't change it. Any registry setting I can change to set the default network connection to "home"?
I've recently moved into a new flat above a pub. The pub has internet which we are free to use but there it is an open network with no password protection and I don't feel comfortable connecting all my devices to it.Is it possible to create another network within the existing one? Perhaps by using another router with a password protecting it?
