I have a very generous neighgbour and unfortunately his wifi only reaches my computer, and not my phone. I have done the following with a Vista machine:
Connect to wireless network > connect router to computer via ethernet cable > Viola, hotspot!
However, in Win7 is this possible? It sees the router as "unidentified public network" and I can't change it. Any registry setting I can change to set the default network connection to "home"?
I have a 4g hotspot with no places to connect a cable, etc. I wanted to know if and how i can get a Netgear WGR514 router to pick up the 4G signal. I need this router because I have some other equipment that i need to connect that does not accept wireless signals.
im moving into an apartment that provides internet via a wireless hotspot (is PW protected and has WPA2 protection). I would like to be able to connect a router to it and then wire my printer, Media server and Roku device to my router.im guessing I will have to somehow bridge my router to the wireless hotspot. I would like the ability to then broadcast my own wireless network from my router, and have my mobile devices connect only to my router, which is in turn connected to the internet via the hotspot.can use the mfg firmware or be open source firmware, doesnt matter to me.I currently have a Netgear WNDR3700 and a spare WRT54G with DDWRT.
I am trying to use a MIFI hotspot for the internet, I have a wifi laptop, and a wifi printer.I would like to print wirelessly from my laptop and use the internet at the same time, but I can't. To print I have to go to my wireless network and switch to my router. And if I want to use the internet I have switch my wireless network back to the MIFI hotspot.
I've got a WiFi router which I'd now like to connect through my Android phone's 3g hotspot. The router is a Trendnet TEW-691GR. The phone: an old Motorola Milestone.
The reason I'm attempting this is the ADSL (or other wireless) in the area is simply tooooooo slooooowww to even consider. I'm lucky to get 40kb/s through the ADSL, but linking through the phone's hotspot allows in excess of 2MB/s - price wise it's not much of a difference. So I thought: "Why not simply use my phone's connection (seeing as I'm paying for it already - uncapped as well), and drop the ADSL contract?"
Only: the router was fine for the ADSL modem. But I'm failing to see how to connect it to the hotspot. I can connect the phone to the router quite easily. But if the hotspot is turned on the connection needs to go the other way round - doesn't it?
Anyhow most of the PC's & Laptops have a wireless connection, so I can directly connect to the hotspot from each of these. This now causes further issues: One of the PCs (I use it as a pseudo server) only has a LAN connection to the router. Also if a laptop is connected to the hotspot it cannot be connected to the router - thus it's incapable of seeing the shares on the "server".
I was thinking of attempting the router's WDS setup, but it requires the MAC address of the other wireless device(s). And for the love of Pete I cannot find the phone's MAC while its hotspot is turned on (simply says MAC address unavailable on the phone). I can find it when the hotspot is off, and have tried using that MAC, then turn the hotspot on and reboot the router - but still it doesn't connect to the hotspot.
I have broadband connection on a wired DSL Modem. Now I want to create a wireless networking environment at my home so to work with my laptop and WLAN enabled phone. I do not like to buy a new Wireless router.
Is is possible to deploy my existing modem/router with some extra equipments to build a wifi hotspot?
I recently bought a mobile hotspot for my new start-up business (rather than paying for multiple internet locations) but I can't connect with my laptop--I'm really trying to avoid buying a newer laptop because my funds are limited right now.My iphone and PS3 can connect to the hotspot and run fine without any problems. The laptop can connect to my hotspot BUT the internet wont connect, it just says 'unidentifiable network'.
is it possible to convert a 3G donugle into a hotspot?? i tried converting my LAN into a hotspot and it works. wondering if it is possible to do the same with my 3G doungle.
I'm having iball laptop with LAN connectivity in Windows XP Service Pack 3. I found out how to create hotspot on laptop and tried it.Everything gone fine, network is showing up in my Ipod Touch too. But even after connecting to this network,I cannot access internet! Then I checked in Network Connections that both LAN & Wireless Connections are connected, but in Wireless Connection when checked in status the packets are sending but not receiving. This is how it shows with the command "ipconfig"....
I have found a great application that allows your PC to become a hotspot. It can also protect the wi-fi. Now remember whatever its your backend on the PC is what kind of network and speed you get such as, if my desktop connected through ethernet and I install the virtual router on the desktop than my laptop can connect to it depending on my Wi-Fi adapter on it. It could be B/G/N. B and G gives 54MBPS and N gives me 65MBPS.
We are having issue on our internet connection, before our Access Points you can use it without any problem... but now you need to put ip on the device so you can access to the internet, added info we are using Antamedia Hotspot Software installed.
Does a VPN like Hotspot Shield (which installs to your hard drive) also obscure your public IP for running processes that connect to the web, or does it just work for web browsers?
The problem is: My Vista laptop cannot find the Wi-Fi hotspot I just create, although it appears on my XP desktop. If I used the included software to make my adapter as a Router, my Vista laptop can find the network and can connect to it. The problem is the internet connection always shows 'Identifying IP address' and later on it shows 'Unidentified IP address'.I also tried to hook up my laptop with the wire connection and using Vista to do the vice versa. (I did this before once when my friends and I went to Vegas and we were able to turn my laptop into a wi-fi hotspot through the hotel's wire internet). I'm able to setup a wi-fi network but:
+ Using the Wireless Connections of Windows XP, my desktop cannot find the hotspot.
+ Using the included software with the adapter, I can connect to the wifi network, but it's unable to go to Internet.
We live in the boondocks, and are forced to have Frontier for our ISP. We need to reconnect frequently, sometimes several times a day. We'd like to find an alternative to Frontier, and not a satellite connection (been there, done that). We are thinking about seeing if VerizonWireless could be our ISP but before I talk to them I'd like to know how much data we download. I asked Frontier but because our plan is unlimited, they say they have no way to knowing our data download per month. We have a Gigaset SE567 modem, and I'm wondering if there is some way to figure out our data download from that.
I have a computer hooked up to the internet with a cable modem via usb cable. The ethernet part of the modem is hooked up to my xbox 360.
I don't have a wireless router or a wireless internet connection but I do have a Belkin USB Wireless Adapter and I read on the web that you can turn your computer into a wireless hotspot if your computer has a wireless card with antennae or a usb wireless adapter.
Example, I have a Nintendo USB Wireless Adapter. All I do is stick it into my computer's USB port and it becomes a hotspot that I use to connect to my Nintendo DS to the internet wirelessly. So I basically thought that my Belkin adapter would be able to do the same thing only with whatever other devices I try, not my DS.
I am new to forum and stuck in connecting one computer to laptop. Here is the scenario: One computer running on windows 7 is connected to wireless router Netgear WGT624 v3 via Ethernet cable. The second is laptop running on Apple. The first one computer does not have any wireless dongle. The laptop is connected with Wifi Hotspot of mobile phone. Now I want to make network between computer and laptop via wireless router to share files and the Wifi Hotspot which is already used by laptop.
My only options for internet have been 56k or wireless USB modems. That is, until recently. We switched from the wireless USB modems to a wireless hotspot from US Cellular (Samsung SCH-LC11). However, ever since making the switch I've had problems accessing certain websites both on our PC and on my Macbook Pro. I can't connect to Invision Free (or any of its user-created forums) or [URL]. It happens with other, random sites as well. I tried manually changing DNS settings to Google's and another one (don't recall which) and it did allow me to access the site. However, once there, every other site started moving slowly and eventually the ones in question timed out as well.
how to connect Hotspot shield automatically on startup of Windows xp By checking the option to show on startup it starts on the tray but doesn't connect Is there a command line or something to do to connect it automatically ?
When I try to use wifi other than my home router, I am asked for my security key. I've tried my default 2Wire key but it doesn't work. How do I find the correct key?
I need to know how to change the wifi channel of the connection. connectify can't do it. I guess you have to set it somewhere in the network card settings, but I'm quite a noob when it's about wireless network. googling my problem didn't get me any good result since all the threads about channel setup are about modem/router wifi channel setting, can't find anything about hotspots.
so many wifi hotspot arround my place, but I can't get all, because need some password for it acces, how to know those wifi hotspot password without asking the provider, and or what kind of powerfull software of the password finder I can use?
First off I live in the back 40's. I'm surpised I even get a connection here but I do. For most of the winter my internet was decent (edge) connected. Very rarely did I get a disconnect but it did happen. Wasn't high speed but it was alright. Then as summer started my internet started cutting out a lot. Lots of dc's and sometimes no connectivity at all. It would be down almost all day for days on end. I bought an antenna for the device. The antenna however only worked for the signal. It did not work with the outages. I'm sometimes getting 4g signal with 2-4 bars and still no internet connectivity. I updated the firmware today. That increased the signal a little bit.
I have Windows 7 x64 and I'm using ICS to share my internet connection (cable-modem router from Comcast) with another 4 computers in my LAN.Today I decided to install a VPN free program called HOTSPOT SHIELD, and after installing it I can browse fine the Internet with this main computer, but the others in the LAN lost internet connection, although File-sharing still works fine and I can see the Networked computer in Windows Explorer or access them remotely with Remote Desktop Connection.I noticed that the Hotspot Shield program added several routes to my routing table, most of them in the IP-Range 10.31.X.X with a Mask of 255.255.248.0so this virtual Network-card that is created has a VARIABLE IP address 10.31.X.X, the first time I monitored it was 10.31.40.20.
I just purchased a T-Mobile hotspot (ZTE) yesterday. It can connect to the T-Mobile network and appears to be working fine. My Wii can connect wirelessly to the the hotspot, but my laptop can only connect to the internet through the USB cord (which it's really not supposed to, because that's supposed to be for charging the device). When I try to connect via wifi to my hotspot, my computer can detect the network. However, after I immediately enter my password, it says that it cannot connect. When I click "Diagnose the problem" it says there was a timeout.I have Windows Vista and one of the tech support people mentioned that Windows Vista sometimes has problems connecting with handshake devices (but he didn't know how to fix it). Another person said I should have about 20 seconds to type in my password, so it shouldn't be timing out so quickly. Is it something with my computer? I have a Compaq Presario CQ60. I had this same problem when I tried to connect to a friend's hotspot a couple weeks ago (I don't remember if it was also T-Mobile or another provider, though).
Anyway, I have a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4056 with Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. I've had it almost a year now and have never had trouble connecting to public wifi.Recently, I moved into a new apartment with free wifi and I seem to catch the signal from my apt even though it is poor. Every time I try to connect with my Toshiba it says, "Windows is unable to connect to 'linksys'." However, my husband's HP laptop and my old eMachines laptop (7yr old) (which I am using to research the problem) can connect with absolutely no issues. When I go to the clubhouse, my Toshiba can connect, however it cannot identify the network and does not receive an actual internet connection.
So far, I have uninstalled/reinstalled and updated my network adapter (Realtek RTL8188CE), I've used Command Prompt ipconfig /reset and ipconfig /release along with several other commands suggested to other wifi connection problemsI've checked my DHCP and DNS to ensure they're enabled. As for firewalls, I have turned off windows firewall and have disabled Kaspersky protection, however I have yet to uninstall and reinstall, this being because I can connect to a password prompted internet connection at work.I am unsure how to check my IP address or any of that
I am using an IPhone 4 as a hotspot to wirelessly connect my pc to the internet using a medialink wireless USB adapter. It says I am connected the IPhone says I am connecte3d but when I click on internet explorer it says web page not available.
We live in an area with no Internet available. We are currently using a Motorola Bionic cell phone thru Verizon as a personal hotspot for our Internet. We get fair to good 4G coverage but the wifi signal does not make it out of the room the phone is in. Is there a way to increase the range of the personal hotspot signal
