Does a VPN like Hotspot Shield (which installs to your hard drive) also obscure your public IP for running processes that connect to the web, or does it just work for web browsers?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 x64 and I'm using ICS to share my internet connection (cable-modem router from Comcast) with another 4 computers in my LAN.Today I decided to install a VPN free program called HOTSPOT SHIELD, and after installing it I can browse fine the Internet with this main computer, but the others in the LAN lost internet connection, although File-sharing still works fine and I can see the Networked computer in Windows Explorer or access them remotely with Remote Desktop Connection.I noticed that the Hotspot Shield program added several routes to my routing table, most of them in the IP-Range 10.31.X.X with a Mask of 255.255.248.0so this virtual Network-card that is created has a VARIABLE IP address 10.31.X.X, the first time I monitored it was 10.31.40.20.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can log into MSN and Steam is still connected, etc, but neither IE nor Firefox work. The internet still works in safe mode with networking, and Windows can't find a problem at all. I've run Avast and Spybot in safe and normal mode and they can't find anything. Reset the browsers and my IP address. Friend downloaded Winsockfixer or something and that didn't work either. I really don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall Windows? My computer is an HP Pavilion with Windows 7.

the computer in question has had repeated problems and various hardware issues and has been sent out for repair on more than one occasion all for non software related issues, i take care of software issues and diagnose hardware problems and i have done so without a hitch until now.
when the problem first started happening i would do a system restore to a point were it was working, but that does not seem to be working anymore
i have tried disabling firewalls [she uses AVG internet security edition which is on all of her computers], windows firewall, disabling and re-enabling network drivers, updating drivers, installing different and previous versions of browsers
See attached diagram, which shows me using the tp-link router to protect my internal network from the guest network for internal security.Should I put the tp-link router into a DMZ on the first main Orcon router to be able to make remote access form the web into my network? I have an IP camera etc that I need to access from the WWW. If I do this does this have any security implications; both for my network or the guestsMy reasoning is not; as the TP-Link still acts as my firewall and the specific address of the TP-Link doesn't affect the guest, but I thought I'd check with the Pros!?

So, yesterday, I reinstalled Windows 7, and installed all the essential programs like FF, uTorrent, Avast! etc.I put some torrents into uT Q, and I could download them like normal. But later that day, I noticed one download had halted completely and there was a red bar at the bottom(torrent is not available). I thought all the seeders had stopped sharing, and I started another torrent which had hundreds of seeders. Well, the same problem again.
I downloaded BitTorrent and Vuze but they couldn't download a byte either! As mentioned, I'm using Avast! Free as my firewall, and I have added uTorrent as an exception(although on my last setup uT was fine without doing any modification for Avast). I've also disabled P2P shield

Then recently (yesterday) The internet stopped working for everything but my browsers and Norton Internet Security. Steam, DC++, even Adobe updater can't connect. I have booted in safe mode (with networking) and had the same problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThey all just decide to not load pages fairly often. It happens on my netbook and PC, has been going on for like a year. Formatted each pc at least once since it started. It's really annoying. It's been awhile since I used firefox so I dont remember that error message but Chrome gives me the sad face with the x's in it's eyes and says oops I cannot load the page. On pages that auto refresh it happens ALOT. Once I click the refresh button once or twice it loads it fine. My HTC EVO doesnt have any trouble with the internet when I have it connected to my router. The operating system is Windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt started a week or so so ago, whenever I tried to connect to a site the page would run very slowly (but once initially connected would run fine). Then today, I haven't gotten a response from any websites; there is just an infinite blank loading screen. I use Google Chrome, and tried switching to the already installed Internet Explorer but my my results were the same. I have been able to make calls on Skype without issue and even downloaded a game from the Microsoft store since the issue started. I am also using the wifi with my phone to post this, so I know it's not a connection issue. Everything using the Internet is working fine, just not the browsers. I am running Windows 8 with Kapersky Internet security (which has never given me an issue). I, also, scanned the computer and manually searched it for any signs of viruses or malware to the best of my ability and found nothing.

Strangely enough, I can use MSN and Skype, but Steam won't connect.I've tried to system restore just to the point before I installed the update, but it failed. Windows blamed it on an anti-virus program. Turned it off, and system restore still won't work. Uninstalled the new updates, but nothing has changed.

It happens intermittently (probably every five to seven web pages I try to visit), and refreshing after a few seconds always allows it to connect fine. It happens at some point on every web site I try to visit.This began occurring rather suddenly on both of my home computers. All other connections on these computers seem to be working fine. - programs like skype or Y!Messenger work fine
- I did a system restore and nothing
- I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox (that's my main browser, but IE and chrome don't launch either)
- the process shows up for a few seconds in task manager and then just disappears
- sometimes the browser opens but closes itself in less than a second
- I ran a scan with Malwarebyte&Antimalware and nothing shows up
I have 2 internet connections, 1 wifi and another lan. Can I assign them to different browsers to perform different downloads at the same time to increase my download speed. Are there any softwares to manage 2 connections for such.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem with my home network that I'm unable to fix:I have 2 laptops (Lenovo and HP) both connect to the wireless network and show up as Local & Internet connected on the Windows 7 OS. Both can ping to an outside network with domain names but no pages open on the browser. There's no error displayed on the browser, the page just tries to keep loading. When I connect both these laptops over the wire, I'm able to browse through all pages easily. I also have 2 phones connected to the same wireless network and I can browse over internet without any problems.

I've confirmed that I am indeed connected to the internet (I know this because, for example, I have no problem at all downloading games via Steam). For some reason, though, when it comes to surfing the web using a browser it's as if I'm not connected (even Steam can't load the Store page, I can only download games via the Library).I moved an infection a week or two ago, and I suspect it altered something that is causing this issue. I did get some advice to open the browser and go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections>Lan Settings and make sure "Automatically detect settings" was checked, and "Use proxy server for your LAN" was not checked.I did this, and in fact "Use proxy server" WAS checked while Automatically detect settings" WAS NOT checked.

I have a problem with another computer in the household. To get to this forum, I tried to use my son's computer (he is at college and has not used it in a while) and it shows the wireless is connected, if I click on his weatherbug, it comes up with the current temps, time, etc, but if I try to open any browser (ie, ff, or chrome) it will not connect.

I have 2 PCs at home, 1 desktop, 1 laptop both running XP SP2, and both hardwired to a DSL router. Last night, all was well, both machines working ok. This morning both machine have the same problem; IE and FF are unable to connect to the internet. Same goes for my smartphone; it can connect to the WiFi network but is unable to browse internet. Funny thing is, I have a stand alone IPphone connected to the same router and it works fine. Both PCs can run Torrent client, I see traffic on "peerblock" but google or hotmail just won't show up either with FF or IE

The rest of the time I switch over to a tethered 4G connection, having to change the proxy configuration in my browser(s). I use both IE and Firefox. I know that the laptop connects to both networks simultaneously, but the Ethernet connection is given priority when connected. Is there a way to have say my Firefox browser configured to use the tethered connection using no proxy, while simultaneously having my IE use the Ethernet connection with the proxy configuration?

When i start up the computer it says that I am connected but when i try to access the internet it won't load. I have tried doing a virus scan and i have tried using other browsers but i still can't figure out how to fix it. IE and Firefox both refused to load my homepage (google) or any other page in my bookmarks. Uninstalled and reinstalled both, even going back a couple of versions and still nothing. I know I'm connected as my iPhone works fine. With this in mind, I tried opening up safari to see what that would do and to my supprise, it works fine, bit slow but still, at least it works. So now I defiantly know that the Internet is working.
