Switch From Frontier To Verizon Hotspot?
Aug 14, 2012
We live in the boondocks, and are forced to have Frontier for our ISP. We need to reconnect frequently, sometimes several times a day. We'd like to find an alternative to Frontier, and not a satellite connection (been there, done that).
We are thinking about seeing if VerizonWireless could be our ISP but before I talk to them I'd like to know how much data we download. I asked Frontier but because our plan is unlimited, they say they have no way to knowing our data download per month. We have a Gigaset SE567 modem, and I'm wondering if there is some way to figure out our data download from that.

I have a DIR-655 (RevA) which I have been very happy with when used with a broadband wireless ISP. We just recently obtained Frontier DSL and I want to use my already configured DIR-655 with the new service. I have successfully bridged the Westell 7500 DSL modem provided by Frontier (DHCP server turned off, mode set to bridge-bridge.) I tested this by attaching a laptop and verifying that it was assigned a WAN IP address and that I could ping resources on the Internet.
When I attach the DLink and start it up, it gets a WAN address and everything looks good, but I can not ping (from the router) to any resource on the Internet (by IP address), including the assigned gateway. It goes without saying that computers attached to the DIR-655 are also unable to ping addresses on the Internet. Oh, I have cloned the Westell modem's MAC address to the DLink router as well.
Any special settings in the DIR-655 that are required to work with Frontier/Verizon's DSL network? Or compatibility issues? and I've updated to the 1.35NA firmware.

I have a Westel 750044, and I would like to use it only as a modem, and use my WRTG54S as my router. Do I need to just change this line [URL] to "Bridge", plug in my router to the modem, and configure the router? My Current VC Setup:[URL]Mostly I want to do this to enable DMZ mode, and also because the whole Verizon/Frontier difference on this modem/router combo is killing me?

I moved from an apartment where they had run ethernet to a jack for me to plug it into my own router, it was nice. My new apartment the installer came over when i wasn't there (my gf was there) and he installed a coax jack next to my router and supplied a huge frontier box (wireless router/modem). And then connected it to my router.
After much configuration I finally got it to run good on my router, and I started wondering if I'm going to get the same latency and speeds as it was on ethernet straight from the box. I'm paying for a 30/10 connection. I'm sure the coax is enough, but it's the cheap Frontier box and coax connection together that I wonder about.
My ultimate question is, I have an old motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Surfboard modem (when I had Comcast) that I have laying around, will it work with it? I assume it will be better. I really dont need all the junk that this huge Frontier box has. I just want a good connection.BTW my router is a DIR-655.

This Cisco connects to another by VPN and both are 871 Models.
Last sunday the VPN just dropped off the face of the earth and couldnt get it back. We all though it was the modem. We had teh ISP come in and check everything outa nd he swapped modems.
I got the VPN back up but it drops packets left and right.Neither router has computer data going across it, it is all radio traffic for a taxi company.
The only change I made to the router here is entered a gateway (before it was 0.0.0.0 and it worked fine) and changed teh DNS numbers (which really dont matter too much as there is no internet data).
The modem is setup as PPPOE instead of bridge with a single static IP. I do a pingplotter test out of that router to another Static ip (our own internet connection through Charter Communications) and I get 100% packetloss across all the HOPS.
On a side note I do the reverse. I pingplott INTO the router from another network and it goes allt he way through till it hits the modem.
How can I tell if its the router causing the problem or the Modem?

I recently bought a mobile hotspot for my new start-up business (rather than paying for multiple internet locations) but I can't connect with my laptop--I'm really trying to avoid buying a newer laptop because my funds are limited right now.My iphone and PS3 can connect to the hotspot and run fine without any problems. The laptop can connect to my hotspot BUT the internet wont connect, it just says 'unidentifiable network'.

I have a very generous neighgbour and unfortunately his wifi only reaches my computer, and not my phone. I have done the following with a Vista machine:
Connect to wireless network > connect router to computer via ethernet cable > Viola, hotspot!
However, in Win7 is this possible? It sees the router as "unidentified public network" and I can't change it. Any registry setting I can change to set the default network connection to "home"?

I have found a great application that allows your PC to become a hotspot. It can also protect the wi-fi. Now remember whatever its your backend on the PC is what kind of network and speed you get such as, if my desktop connected through ethernet and I install the virtual router on the desktop than my laptop can connect to it depending on my Wi-Fi adapter on it. It could be B/G/N. B and G gives 54MBPS and N gives me 65MBPS.

The problem is: My Vista laptop cannot find the Wi-Fi hotspot I just create, although it appears on my XP desktop. If I used the included software to make my adapter as a Router, my Vista laptop can find the network and can connect to it. The problem is the internet connection always shows 'Identifying IP address' and later on it shows 'Unidentified IP address'.I also tried to hook up my laptop with the wire connection and using Vista to do the vice versa. (I did this before once when my friends and I went to Vegas and we were able to turn my laptop into a wi-fi hotspot through the hotel's wire internet). I'm able to setup a wi-fi network but:
+ Using the Wireless Connections of Windows XP, my desktop cannot find the hotspot.
+ Using the included software with the adapter, I can connect to the wifi network, but it's unable to go to Internet.

I have a computer hooked up to the internet with a cable modem via usb cable. The ethernet part of the modem is hooked up to my xbox 360.
I don't have a wireless router or a wireless internet connection but I do have a Belkin USB Wireless Adapter and I read on the web that you can turn your computer into a wireless hotspot if your computer has a wireless card with antennae or a usb wireless adapter.
Example, I have a Nintendo USB Wireless Adapter. All I do is stick it into my computer's USB port and it becomes a hotspot that I use to connect to my Nintendo DS to the internet wirelessly. So I basically thought that my Belkin adapter would be able to do the same thing only with whatever other devices I try, not my DS.

My only options for internet have been 56k or wireless USB modems. That is, until recently. We switched from the wireless USB modems to a wireless hotspot from US Cellular (Samsung SCH-LC11). However, ever since making the switch I've had problems accessing certain websites both on our PC and on my Macbook Pro. I can't connect to Invision Free (or any of its user-created forums) or [URL]. It happens with other, random sites as well. I tried manually changing DNS settings to Google's and another one (don't recall which) and it did allow me to access the site. However, once there, every other site started moving slowly and eventually the ones in question timed out as well.

I need to know how to change the wifi channel of the connection. connectify can't do it. I guess you have to set it somewhere in the network card settings, but I'm quite a noob when it's about wireless network. googling my problem didn't get me any good result since all the threads about channel setup are about modem/router wifi channel setting, can't find anything about hotspots.

First off I live in the back 40's. I'm surpised I even get a connection here but I do. For most of the winter my internet was decent (edge) connected. Very rarely did I get a disconnect but it did happen. Wasn't high speed but it was alright. Then as summer started my internet started cutting out a lot. Lots of dc's and sometimes no connectivity at all. It would be down almost all day for days on end. I bought an antenna for the device. The antenna however only worked for the signal. It did not work with the outages. I'm sometimes getting 4g signal with 2-4 bars and still no internet connectivity. I updated the firmware today. That increased the signal a little bit.

I have Windows 7 x64 and I'm using ICS to share my internet connection (cable-modem router from Comcast) with another 4 computers in my LAN.Today I decided to install a VPN free program called HOTSPOT SHIELD, and after installing it I can browse fine the Internet with this main computer, but the others in the LAN lost internet connection, although File-sharing still works fine and I can see the Networked computer in Windows Explorer or access them remotely with Remote Desktop Connection.I noticed that the Hotspot Shield program added several routes to my routing table, most of them in the IP-Range 10.31.X.X with a Mask of 255.255.248.0so this virtual Network-card that is created has a VARIABLE IP address 10.31.X.X, the first time I monitored it was 10.31.40.20.
